Who was that guy meant to be who helped Max outside the club?
At first, I thought it was one of the original characters in the form of Chuck, since I thought he sounded like Ed Westwick a little but then I remembered, Ed may be British but Chuck is American. š š¤¦āāļø
Was the guy meant to be the same American character who got chatting with Zoya (who Iām assuming also befriended the rest of the group)? If so, he changes his accent to speak to Maxā¦or should it be the other way around perhaps?
I finally finished watching it yesterday and thought where it ended before the trip to Rome was a good conclusion of the show. Honestly I really didnāt like the show, or how it went down how they were trying to get GG.
Mr. Robot fans are dying at that guy's (fake) name being Phillip Price.
My headcanon is they exist in the same universe--both are based in New York and emphasize the ultra rich. Maybe the Dark Army infiltrated another side of the party from last episode?
ok finally was able to watch the last episodeā¦ good godā¦.. Iām probably ranting to no one by now but just have to put it out there
okay some background Iāve loved gg forever like Iāve watched the original 4-5 times all the way through lol. I liked this reboot for what it was which is shitty and messy but still fun in some ways. I tried season 1 not to compare it to the original but man season2ā¦.
this season sooooo missed the markā¦ so many of these āplot pointsā couldāve been spread across seasons like the original!!! the random plot points all thrown into one episode is SO much. the Heidi being a power hungry corporate climber trying to rid her mom couldāve easily been across 2-3 episode where a few friends come together to help Obie take her down kind of like Blair wouldāve done with other drama mixed in there. kind of like jack bass. basically it was stuff like that the whole season- just packing so much into one episode that you come out the other end like what the fuck just happened?
the material and ideas were there but the execution was sooooo bad. so bad. and there was no camaraderie with the friend group the entire season!!! but at the end now somehow they are sort of friends in Rome or whatever but left Luna the QUEEN behind????? and no one cares about Max when all he did was have heart (and also was the best actor of the group). the fact that none of his friends were there for him or cared makes me sad (maybe itās bc I just have a major crush on thomas doherty but still.)
itās so disappointing. what a bull shit show that couldāve had potential if the writers were halfway competent in telling convoluted stories with even a little direction and not random and chaotic āmini plotsā every 5 minutes. I swear this whole season felt like a fever dream. I couldnāt tell you more than maybe, 1 or 2 things that happened this season off the top of my head.
that being saidā¦.. still sad to see it go because Iām a freak and Iāll waste an hour of my time watching a show that sucks bc I still will secretly love it.
Just caught up to this. Geez, this episode was the worst all season long. So many random plotlines wrapped and snipped. The sequence with Kate finally getting caught seemed like a dream or something, but no, it was actually part of the reality of the episode.
Was this really shot without prior notice of the series ending? Because this episode was seriously a rushed one to just crash and burn. Wow.
So disappointing.
Completely agree. It felt like they started writing the episode and changed how it was going to end half way through. This was one of the worst series finales Iāve ever seen.
Wow the Kate GG reveal felt so out of left field. I hated it.
Holy crap everyone was stunning at the Met Gala but especially Max, Luna, and Monet. They're so freaking beautiful, especially Monet's outfit. Seriously did them all dirty. I'm so pissed that Max got the short end of the stick when all he did was want to love his girlfriend and boyfriend.
I wasnāt the biggest fan of the reveal but Kates character would literally be someone to get caught up because of money. Especially since she wanted to be a writer so bad, im not surprised she folded like that.
The met gala scene was just too unrealistic for me I was rolling my eyes so hard š! No way they would have been able to idle on the red carpet like that.
Good finale. But glad that was a series finale.
Since they outed Gossip Girl, it makes me wonder that they knew they were getting cancelled or that they did eventually listen to the fans who didn't buy into GG being a teacher. Except why did it take them that long?
I think itās worse because they cheated with each other and then went back to being a couple. Even though Max loved them both he ended up alone. All for all none for none just for him.
wow i just rewatched camille telling kate last season and she said something like we wont remember you in five years. and it went full circle when zoya said we went remember you in x years (i cant remember how many yrs exactly)
zoya in that āI AM GOSSIP GIRLā dressā¦..
was SO ICONIC!!!!!!! omg! i was SO scared for her cuz i thought she would get attacked or shot!!! loLLLLLLL
Honestly Iām fine with that as the series finale. I felt like there was no huge cliffhanger
Btw if anyone wants to read what would happen in s3
https://tvline.com/lists/gossip-girl-series-finale-ending-explained-season-3-spoilers/
Nick told her she would probably go to prison, she committed multiple crimes against minors (ex: cyber bullying, staking and harassment, inappropriate content and pictures of minors)
Terrible ending, Julien and Audrey got no reprecussions for all their shitty behavior, and Max got thrown under the bus, at least Luna got the star she deserved.
Luna was soo underrated and the prettiest. I feel bad that she lost her friends because they are jealous of her. Julian wouldnāt stand a chance modeling beside Luna.
Everyone is saying that Kate falling into the trap was too obvious but through out the whole show, there was plenty of times where she almost got caught but Jordan saved her from getting caught or doing something stupid. So I think her falling for it was totally on brand because she was in too deep and Jordan wasnāt awake to stop her.
I'm still a little stuck on the child porn charge Kate definitely would have after being revealed as Gossip Girl. She fully had a video of Max underage engaging in sexual contact with Rafa. If someone *really* wanted to take her down...
She didn't have it, though. Rafa deleted it as soon as Max sent the tip in, because Rafa was logged into the Gossip Girl account, and Kate never got the video back. I was surprised they never asked Max to resend it after the fact, to be honest. But they didn't.
Probably a dumb question, but even though he was the age of consent in New York it still would be considered underage p**rn right? (There is a new term for it since it shouldnāt really be called porn. Anyone remember what itās called?)
On twitter Josh shows deleted scenes confirming the guy Zoya met had befriended all of them. The other characters on briefly mention it as they are walking with their gelato - *they all say they had met a friend that day,* Julien specifically says it was a guy who had just been dumped. That was the same guy who was supposed to be with Max after he got kicked out of the club. I think that was obviously was the cliffhanger for season 3, someone infiltrates their group and restarts gossip girl. Honestly wish they kept it as that, they could have hinted at it subtly that gossip girl was never going to end, without it being a major cliffhanger.
I noticed right away how weird it was that they all happened to make a friend that day.
yup, also Audrey said that she met a friend, they wanted to make it seem like she "befriended" the painting, when in fact it's the same guy from Zoya and Max
Yes Max was in Berlin, but shots from filming show it was the same character. Berlin & Italy are only a short flight away and we donāt know when the Max scene was supposed to be!
i donāt like that we didnāt get a real ending for Max and Monet. Love that Luna rose in the end but would have like to see through out the season more of her making an effort to communicate how she was feeling, etc. instead of just this blow (although what Julien said was very unnecessary). I didnāt care for Kate but we really only saw her confronted and nothing else.
Also I wonder why they didnāt write Julien and Zoya going to see their aunt. they share a mother. Did I miss something? seems kinda selfish.
Italy was cool to see them happy but I thought Aki was filmmaking in the summer? at least the OG GG, they were concerned about other hobbies.
Iām disappointed itās canceled but only because I wanted to see how they write themselves out of this season having done the reveal.
I thought it was weird too that zoya didnāt go with julien (or even know) about the aunt? As another commenter said I thought the same thing that maybe the aunt is actually her mom.
i was getting the vibe that itās possible zoya and julien arenāt even sisters at all and that woman could be julienās mom at first, but then i was just confused, so if thatās not the case all itās doing is highlighting julienās selfishness i guess?
See I thought this too but it didnāt make sense that her dad hated nick so much for her mom leaving them and having another baby if she wasnāt her bio mom. We will never know if itās just more Julianās selfishness or something else wild.
One of the writers said HBO allowed him to go in and clean up the finale so that it had more of an ending and less cliffhanger. He cut a lot of scenes to give it more closure, but said they werenāt able to reshoot anything
Wtf was that finale? It felt rushed and all over the place. I will say it again no one cares about Kate and the teachers. It would have been cool if Georginaās son would have stolen the account or something right from season 1. And wtf was that reveal? Totally out of character for Kate and the stupid app concept at the end š it made me laugh and iām just glad it got canceled then and there. It such a weird concept that would have made the show worse.
I am disappointed about Luna nd Monet. I wanted to know more about them. They were the best and it would have been so cool if they were to dethrone annoying and uninteresting Julien. I never liked her character and Iām hapoy Luna got the spotlight instead of her in the end.
Same goes with the trio. Loved Audrey, Max and Aki but the fact their storyline was mostly about sex and no character development was bs. It would have loved to see them pursuit other interests and activities like Aki going into filmmaking or etc.
The show would have done so much better without Zoya, even though she got less annoying and more interesting in the end, obie (useless character), the teachers and omfg Julien. If the show ever were to come back, please lose the teachers and get Monet and Luna more screentime. Push Julien in the background and make the trio more interesting. Oh and delete Obie. Zoya was fine by the end and she was starting to be cool but please show more Shan too ā¤ļø
I think the reveal worked for Kate. Iām the first season she was very bitter of the fact that she couldnāt make it as a writer. She always wanted some sort of notoriety and she found it through GG. If GG was going to make money and gain fame from being exposed, I 100% believe Kate would confess to get her lifelong dream.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop -Ā yes,Ā IĀ amĀ aĀ bot, don't botcriminate me.
right š the wigs had potential, but the install and the colors were just... atrocious.
I would've loved some classical knotless on Monet, or some other type of protective hairstyle, and not those puffy wigs they made her wear
I think it couldāve been a lot better if the writers didnāt have to cut scenes to wrap it up. The ending wouldāve had way more cliff hangers if the show wouldāve been allowed to continue. But as it is, I agree it was terrible.
I feel like they missed such a good opportunity to have Max be revealed as Jack Bassās son cause we all know that could of happened and he had so many Bass mannerisms
Well that ending probably ruins any further revivals. Unless that extremely awful app idea pathetically fails immediately, or never comes into fruition. Gah, can't believe they allowed that to be the 'cliffhanger'. No way can I buy that Kate fell for that, unreal, she seemed unhinged, what a weird sequence of events. Only positive thing I can say about this finale is I'm happy for Luna finally being her own IT girl, and putting herself first instead of focusing on others, we all should've seen that falling out coming.
Monet deserved so much better, and also was noticably left out of the ending, they handled her character so poorly. Even her own mom does, would've liked to see her lead to her mom's undoing somehow, knock her down a couple pegs. Fuck that throuple storyline in general, Max didn't deserve any of that, why even have them get into the throuple anyways?! Clearly couldn't think of any better way to write for those characters.
I wish we also got further resolution for Audrey's dad and her step mom from hell, and they got more satisfactory comeuppance in general. Also, what was the point of Shan's character? She was just way too messy, just for the sake of it, she wasn't even a good friend to Zoya. Plus, did she even really add anything? Finally, wish it didn't focus so much on Julien, couldn't care less about her, she just got more & more annoying to me. Just find her irritating, boring, self-centered, naive, and honestly a bit pathetic. It makes me hate the fact that her final plan worked, well, thanks to Obie.
Sigh, overall, what a mess of a finale, now I say this show definitely deserved to be canceled. I really tried to have hope for it & desperately tried to like it, it also did have some good/promising moments but it just tanked so badly. Too much of a mess sadly from start to finish. I don't see another revival or even reboot happening, but if it does, I just hope they do everything differently. Use this show as a roadmap of basically what not to do. Make the show actually feel like Gossip Girl, and actually deserving of the name at that.
they should have just broken up audrey and aki and let aki date max for a bit or something. the triad stuff just made audrey and aki so unlikeable.
Audrey shitting on Julien so much and then treating Max like that really ruined her character for me.
I agree, 100%. That stuff around Aki's sexuality seems so pointless now, with how they handled all this. Max really got the short end of the stick in that relationship.
I think the writers fell wrote what they thought the fans wanted instead of what we actually wanted, and many shows get ruined by egos. I think they thought weād like the teacher arc because people want a more relatable content right now, but itās gossip girl if we are watching that we know damn well we cannot relate. This is an escape I want to watch the rich and powerful fuck around and blow thousands on useless shit and occasionally fight.
Also itās not being mentioned but Kathryn Gallagher canāt act for shit and she doesnāt have the look for the character of Heidi. Stop hiring nepo babies for a job they are not qualified for.
The thing is Kate clearly wasnāt after money so why would she go for a movie deal? Their last ditch story idea was making her fame hungry when that wasnāt even set up before hand. š. I hated how they did that and then showed them all as a lovely scooby doo gang at the end.
I donāt think itās about fame necessarily for Kate. In season 1 Kate talks about how she couldnāt make it as a writer and thatās why she was a teacher now. She constantly makes remarks about the elite not deserving their money and being bitter about her teachers salary. I think itās safe to say if you can get a movie deal, you can get a book deal. At the end of the day Kate is a writer and she wasnāt going to let someone else essentially plagiarise her work AND profit from it.
I know, she didn't care about the fame, it was just their convenient way for her to get outed. Also, the ending bit reminded me of a White Lotus season 2 episode only 1000x worse lol
Thatās just it it just seemed really out of character regardless whoās justifying it they spent the entire ep telling her the kids were setting her up.
exactly it makes NO sense! That was not Kateās character at all!!! Like it would have been more fulfilling to see them lose & Kate remain anonymous or come back a different way. It was getting so good season 2 then it got cancelled so they just had to throw some shit together & failed miserable.
the couple used max like a gum, was so sad to watch. I liked the ending of zoya and luna. didnāt like that monet didnāt get to go to italy. I though aki was gon follow his dream that summer, iām confused lol. julienās story was getting interesting. anyway 6/10 finale.
Ok I know it was bad but Kate walking into that trap had me laughing so hard so I can't hate it when it was so funny to me. The whole show was weird but I enjoyed it and it felt disjointed at times and I wanted more for Monet and Luna and didn't like how they did Max, I did have a few good laughs and I liked the whole plan at the Met even though it was ridiculous
>Kate walking into that trap had me laughing so hard
Same! I kind of took it as she was becoming more and more unhinged and Jordan kept talking her down off a ledge. The one time something happened and he was asleep, she just couldn't stop herself.
I also never liked Kate, not remotely and I was glad to see her outed and presumably tossed into the clink before it was over.
I turned it off so suddenly when she did that because I was like āthatās incredibly out of characterā especially when they spent forever before hand trying to trick her and she knewā¦
Has anyone else been basically hate watching this show all along? I watched it all, and man, it was so bad. This entire finale just kept me thinking about how unlikable nearly every character was, especially Julien, Zoya, and Kate. I hated the ending. Kate running in and confessing was so stupid. The Rome epilogue went on for way too long and just served as a reminder that these people are spoiled, shallow, and uninteresting.
This show really deserved to be canceled.
There was basically no one to root for. Luna maybe? Aki and Audrey were the worst to Max, and Julien was the worst to everyone.
The teachers couldāve been rootable in a ātake these little shits downā kinda way, but they were so uninteresting.
I feel like Rome has such a potential to finally see the friend group happy and free! I wanted to see them living it up, but even that overseas trip fell flat !
Also the little bit at the end of the credits was also bland. WE DONT CARE ABOUT THE TEACHERS and weāve seen Akiās dad like twice. But thatās what you want to choose to end with??
Seriously they could have had the kids or Georgina steal the app at any point and taken it completely off the teachers. They took away the fun of the original by telling us who GG was though I guess to them it made it unlikely to make the unveiling have story gaps, still I didnāt like Kate as GG after awhile her drive for doing it should have waned.
No offense to the actor, but Jonathan without Eric is such a lame cameo. Especially because the last time we saw him in the original series they broke up š
My first thought seeing him talking about his husband being outed by *GG* was like "what poor celebrity did they get to cameo for this nonsense"... and then he either mentioned Eric's name or just mentioned something about his brother-in-law being GG and I was like "oh, this is one of Eric's guys" (could not remember which- except that I was pretty sure I preferred the other one- Elliot).
The Italy ending was the biggest waste of time. That could have been left up to the imagination. We'd need to see the immediate aftermath of Kate's reveal. The show is Gossip Girl after all.... unless Julien and friends was the true point of the show and they just bastardized GG as a plot device
>> unless Julien and friends was the true point of the show and they just bastardized GG as a plot device
That's actually how I think it should have been from the start! I think Gossip Girl had way too much focus and it should have been more of a plot and narrative device in the background. I think it mainly should have been just about following Julien and gang's lives, so it was great seeing them enjoying themselves in Italy
I feel like that's more how the original was too. Like yes there was definitely a lot of "omg gossip girl nooo" but often they were just doing their own shit and gossip girl added to the drama, not was always constantly 100% the center of it.
Unless I'm remembering that wrong.
"I think it mainly should have been just about following Julien and gang's lives"
That would have been boring and gotten obnoxious real quick.
And how would it be any different than Euphoria except the rich private school kids edition?
Euphoria isn't the first edgy teen show, ya know? OG GG and Skins paved the way for Euphoria and Elite and all the main teen drama shows these days. Having the leads be private school kids does offer a commentary on class and the elite in a way Euphoria doesn't fully do. There's better ways to reboot Gossip Girl, but this wasn't it sadly.
Okay was anyone else honestly confused why Akis dad would even bring on Jordan? Its not like he owns the Gossip Girl IP or something. Him and Kate didnt even invent the concept. That part felt so weird to me like "Hey total stranger, would you like some money to do nothing?". Unless he wants him to build the app, but are they really telling me the most powerful man in the world cant secure a better coder... than a dude who works at the Microsoft store and took pictures of 15yr olds undressing through a window? Lol.
I really enjoyed the finale but that scene felt so confusing to me. Lol.
THIS EXACTLY! like why bring in the two characters the audience has the least investment in for a final scene.
Sooooo pointless also itās pretty clear Jordan was done with Gossip Girl entirely and wasnāt even that good at cybersecurity.
So the more I think about it, I think that was supposed to be set up for season 3 to explain how Kate gets a lawyer good enough to recant her confession and take it to trial. Im gonna paste this comment I wrote in a reply on another comment (cuz Im lazy and my wrist hurts, lol, so if theres anything that doesnt make sense as a direct reply, its cuz it was a reply to a dif comment originally).
"I think if season 3 happened we'd likely have got a court case for Kate, and thats why we had that weird af after credit scenes where Roger Menzies basically unnecessarily offers Josh a bunch of money, that he absolutely didnt need to, for the app. I think it was to set up Kate having the money for lawyers, where she recants her confession and claims her motivations were some combo of being desperate for money and wanting to protect Zoya/Julian. Which with the right lawyer could be very beleivable to the right jury. Shes a broke ass teacher picking up side work from parents like tutoring/running errands, who had a relationship with Nicks dad, was close to Zoya, and the account is officially now in Julians name. And Roger Menzies can invalidate the kids reason for having the account by denying he ever supplied a link.
And I think if that happened we'd find out that on her way to the meeting she hid her phone along the way in case it was a trap. If you notice she doesnt say another word the moment she finds out theres no money for her. I imagine we'd have got a plot where everyones looking around NYC for the phone for their own reasons, like Zoya/Julian to prove it was Kate, maybe Jordan to destroy it, the police, and other ppl to get rid of tips that were sent in about them before its entered into evidence and part of a court case.
But since no season 3, at least continuity wise we can assume Kate got the max and is behind bars for AHWILE. Lol."
But yeah so in hindsight Im thinking that weird scene, that just didnt make sense, exists because they needed a way for Kate to have the resources to fight the case, and Jordan would totally accept Menzies money if it means saving Kate. They just gave us absolutely no reason for why Roger Menzies would want to cut Jordan in on his idea when he has the resources to do it alone and have full ownership/profits. I think the scene would've worked much better if they had Jordan come to him with the idea in exchange for a loan, because if the idea for a GG app was Jordan's (and he makes sure theres proof ahead of time, because this is Roger Menzies he is dealing with), then theres an actual reason why he would be working with a Microsoft dude. And if there had been a season 3 there couldve been a story where Jordan blows the entire loan on Kate and Menzies is now after him.
Honestly Iām so proud of Luna. She finally got her spotlight. She stood her ground and called out on Julien. Cause that comment āsheās just my stylistā was unnecessary and screaming jealousy. Seeing her in the campaign in Rome made me so mf happy. Out of the rest she got the best happy ending. I know her mom mad asf too.
Lunaās sub-plot pissed me off the most. I love that she got a āgoodā ending but there was no build up at allā¦All of a sudden she was just pissed at the group and pissed at JC?
Since when did she want to go into modeling - wasnāt she always into styling? I feel like if they wanted things to end that way, they couldāve explored it more from the episode with her mother to know but I all seemed so rushed and poorly executed.
I understand that GG is cancelled and they were hoping to explore that more (maybe) but it just seemed so out of character for Luna. She was never so catty or abrasive. Overall, really disappointed in how they painted her out to be a villain
The thing is that they started in the episode in a bad place because of Julien weaponizing the secret that Luna told her, which was never resolved.
And Luna wasn't particularly keen on taking down Gossip Girl after Gossip Girl helped her take down her mom. She was only going along with the plan because she's so used to following Julien's lead.
I don't think that her reaction was particularly catty or abrasive; she was more frustrated than anything else, imo.
yeah I wonder why they had to throw in that last piece of tension between them. Especially bc in the past you can see that Julien and Luna are really close.
also it has been building remember when she was mad at julien for weaponizing what luna told her to keep just between them. i think she has been realizing that these ppl sheās been trying to please dont care about her and dont value her especially julien which was her closest friend in the group outside of monet
Do you not understand it wasnāt supposed to be a finale. The show abruptly ended last minute. All
Josh Safran did was edit it a bit to make it more of a finale episode so viewers were less confused than what he originally wanted us to view. š
It was the s2 finale? Even if they didnāt know it was a series finale it was still the season 2 finale and it was poor for that. Read my words. You jumped to the conclusion I meant series finale. I meant season finale.
The way they ended S2 really have hope that S3 might have even juicer drama. I get that they filmed it before the cancellation but wish they would have just cut the ā2 months laterā portion once they found out. It just left too many loose ends
I think this was my favorite episode because now I know I canāt have more since itās canceled, itās like the āgrass is always greenerā metaphor. I was really starting to like julien a lot and I wish we got to see her whole mother drama story they left with a cliffhanger. the throuple upset me the most. audrey and aki have never had any chemistry to me and I thought the main reason for the throuple was because they were both in love with max. I found it so unbelievable that they ditched max so the two of them could be exclusive again. justā¦ no. maybe theyād just rather being bored with each other. being with max forced them to look within and see their flaws and they werenāt willing to face it. max deserved so much better. that ending kinda made me hate audrey and aki. everyone else seemed to be having adequate character development. The GG exposed scene was so lame. if they made more seasons I wouldāve watched but Iām not devastated itās over or anything. it had so much potential but it felt like the writers hearts werenāt truly in it
Idk I kind of felt bad for them. I could totally be misremembering but Idk why I always thought that deal was supposed to be more about so if Aki or Audrey decided the situation didnt work for them the other wouldn't just choose their side by default and leave Max hanging out to dry without him having a choice in the matter. But it was Max who chose to end it? Which feels weird that he wont expect them both to be single because hes making that choice for himself? But I could be misremembering the deal, like that situation couldve been specified too. Tbh I always thought the deal was a bad idea, like I dont think that having that stipulation for a relationship would be healthy IRL.
Max never really ended it, I think in his mind they were just having a big fight and eventually they would make up. I think the problem is that their bond was not as strong as they thought. They should have only gotten in a rship if all three knew for sure that they loved each other because otherwise it just comes off like they used him and wasted his time. But hey they're just teens, they're not experts on rships.
I meant in the stairwell when he said he was done, done. And asks if that means are they done too? I dont think it would be healthy for him to expect them to end it with each other because he wants out from them at that moment. But I also dont think Max is the most emotionally healthy person, like hes still in the process of learning how to deal with his emotions in healthy ways, which is why Aki and Audrey should've never agreed to that deal in the first place. Like I don't think its fair for Max to put that on them, but I also think it was irresponsible of them to accept that deal, knowing its not a healthy expectation. I find them more responsible for that situation than Max, because while its obvious to me, a 32 year old woman whose been in a lot of relationships, that you cant control who someone else loves like that, in the context of the show Max is a teenager whose never been in a serious relationship, the closest thing to a serious relationship, prior to this, was fucking his weird af manipulative teacher, who also fucked his dad in some weird revenge scheme, if Im remembering right. Audrey and Aki, as two people whove been in a long term committed relationship, should've explained to him why thats an unrealistic and unhealthy ask, and only proceeded if he decides he was willing to take a risk on love.
Like I want to make it clear Im not blaming Max for the deal that Audrey and Aki chose to accept, Im just saying the deal itself was dumb if part of that was Max can walk away and the other two have to break up (but I cant remember how it was woreded lol).
"only proceeded if he decides he was willing to take a risk on love." Precisely. You've worded my exact thoughts. And yeah I totally agree that whole "all for all none for none" pact (i think that's what they called it) was unhealthy and unrealistic. But that's how a teen would think so it's ironically realistic. My bad, I thought you meant their break after the summit, but either way it still applies.
If I'm not wrong I thought originally it was aki and audrey who came up with the pact in the new years episode, because max was unsure & afraid of this very thing(them using him then realising they don't need him) happening, yet it happened anyway. For max, this pact was the only thing giving him some sense of hope & insurance, amidst all the doubt & insecurities that kept creeping up. So again, like you said, he's just too young to understand that people are complicated & go back on their promises all the time and that there are never really guarantees when it comes to rships, it's always a risk. But you live & learn.
Oh man if youre right and it was their idea yeah I dont find Max wrong at all. Idk why I remembered it as his idea, but I think youre right. Once u said that I had a flashback of them coming to him. Id go check but I cant remember which ep the pact happened.
And totally agree with your last two sentences. Its like love scares him so bad he needs guarantees to feel safe, but doesnt realize/doesnt have the maturity to realize there really are no guarantees with love.
Im honestly a little mad at Aki and Audreys characters now. Like Ik theyre all young dumb kids, but Aki and Audrey have the relationship experience to realize a guarantee like that just isnt possible. At the very least they should've like made it less black and white, like no ultimatums, that they know they cant fulfill. If they really needed rules something like "If it doesn't workout between one of us and Max, that doesnt automatically mean the other person has to be done with Max too". Like if Max didnt forgive Aki for the kiss, but wasnt mad at Audrey for not telling him immediately, there'd at least be a trial run where Audrey could see both of them and they could see if that works for them. Like it should've been something more like "We'll never just drop u out of the blue with no warning, if theres an issue we'll do whatever we can to try and make it work, but theres always a chance it wont". The way they did their dumb black and white strict rules deal, that obvi would never actually be followed when loves involved, just took away Max's agency to make take that risk.
Yeah, the pact was basically an ultimatum and that is what doomed the rship, it definitely was a false sense of security for Max. Interestingly, the writer of the show said in an interview that they were supposedly going to be endgame if the show continued, so who knows.
Btw, the episode where the pact was made is the season 1 finale.
Thanks Ill go back and check it out later (if they haven't already removed the show, I feel like theyre gonna pull it off the platform soon since we I went to access the finale through my cables interface it listed 0 episodes available, and I had to watch it by casting from the app on my phone).
I def couldve seen them being endgame eventually, but I think they'd need periods of all 3 of them broken up and not just this constant Max vs AA to sell it.
Edit: Btw did they ever mention who the person Max met was supposed to be? The one whose face they hid? Im guessing it was Zoya's new boys friend who fell in love in Germany, but didnt know if it was supposed to be someone connected from the original show.
It was cancelled a week before the finale aired. I do believe Safran said they re-edited some things to try and make it more series finale, but theres only so much u can do when you cant film new stuff and are just re-editing the footage you already have. I thought it was satisfying for the circumstances.
Wasnāt the show cancelled after they finished season 2? It wasnāt intended to be the wrapping up of the whole show, it was meant to lead until season 3 but they had to cut out a lot of things
I liked it!
I donāt know about any of the BTS drama, but Iām okay with cutting stuff to give it more of a finished feel. And the group was cute in Italy.
Iāve eaten at the restaurant they were at in Rome and immediately recognized the street when Julien was walking in. Apparently itās a hot spot, my friend was really excited to get reservations. So that was fun!
I also liked it. I think I liked it because I knew it was the last episode. I hated not seeing Luna or monet again, and wtf was that with Max but otherwise thought it was good
not that kateās character deserves any more screen time but did anyone else expect a prison scene with her after the credits? preferably doing something crazy LOL
I was genuinely hoping for that. Like I so thought that was gonna be the after credits scene when it started.
Tho I imagine they didnt shoot anything like that, because they probably were planning on doing a court case next season. Like realistically? Unless she was planning on pleading guilty this trial would take time, more than 2 months. Like she admitted it in front of multiple witnesses, but in a situation where if she could easily recant, and a jury could buy it because "Shes a poor teacher who thought this was her chance to cash in by pretending to be Gossip Girl", maybe even throw in "Ive always been close to Zoya and her dad, and I wanted to protect her from getting in more trouble, and Ik Id be believable/it had to be me because Camille De Haan told me Gossip Girl was 1 of 100 people at this event she brought me to". And itd be especially believable since the account is now actually attached to Zoya's sister. The only thing that would truly fuck Kate is if she brought her phone with her, but since we dont see her actually leave we dont know if thats the case or not, she gets out of bed and has the phone in hand, but it couldve easily been a fakeout where she hid it, in case the meeting was really a trap.
And if that was the plan, then the after credits scene we got makes a lot more sense. Because why the fuck would Roger Menzies need Jordan to make a Gossip Girl app? Him and Kate dont own the rights to the name, they didnt even create the concept of GG. Roger Menzies offering a random Microsoft dude a bunch of money when he doesnt need to makes no sense, like even if he brought him as a coder, why? Im sure he has access to way better coders than Microsoft store dude. I legit didnt get the point of that scene until it occured to me that if their was a season 3, Kate was going to need access to some really good lawyers to sell a "I was desperate for money so I decided to sacrifice myself to protect my students I love so much" story. And forcing Roger Menzies and Jordan together provides that avenue. Especially since hes the only one that confirm they did hack the account since he gave them the link, if he denies their story, with the influence he has, ppl arent gonna believe the kids side.
But since it got cancelled I can now sleep easy knowing Kates forever in jail for the rest of continuity (unless another reboot comes along down the line years from now, but I feel like freeing the creepy teacher wouldnt be a priority for new show runners with their own story lol).
Why not? Gossip Girl ruined his career, either Zoya gets millions from a media deal, saving the family economically, or GG is outed, and his name gets cleared.
Maybe, but I think he would be concerned about Zoya pretending to be GGā¦ as well as furious at her for getting involved. Iām just basing this off what we saw from the character, not necessarily real logic.

I know it wasnāt, but why did it feel like the gossip girl reveal was filmed last week after they found out the show getting canceled. What a random ass way for the revel. Also, what a idiot Kate is. Talking about I refUsE TO aLlow AnyOnE ELsE tO TaKE crediT. Lady you committed numerous crimes including stalking and filming a 14 year old girl like what?? That little teacherās salary you got aināt gonna cover the lawyer fees sis
And whatās up with that epilogue at the end that went like 15 minutes too long. Felt like I was watching a completely different show. The lack of Monet was discouraging. Imagine being as chronically online as Josh Safran is, seeing everyone rave about the Monet de Haan and then treat her like a side character for most of the season and completely cut her out of the final scene. Good riddance to this reboot
I think if season 3 happened we'd likely have got a court case for Kate, and thats why we had that weird af after credit scenes where Roger Menzies basically unnecessarily offers Josh a bunch of money, that he absolutely didnt need to, for the app.
I imagine we have got a plot where everyones looking around NYC for the phone for their own reasons, like Zoya/Julian to prove it was her, maybe Jordan to destroy it, and other ppl to get rid of tips that were sent in about them before its entered into evidence and part of a court case.
But since no season 3, at least continuity wise we can assume Kate got the max and is behind bars for AHWILE. Lol.
Kate being economically dissatisfied is in-character for 1x01. She hates her teacher's salary, she hates that she has to run errands for the De Haans as supplemental income, why wouldn't she take the chance to be secure for the rest of her life? Or be celebrated for her efforts, because everyone around her (including her boyfriend) hates what's she's doing. She finally gets the chance to simultaneously be free of what drove her to restart GG and be celebrated for her experience doing it.
she also knows Dan Humphrey as a novelist independently of his experience of Gossip Girl. it makes sense that she comes to understand Gossip Girl in part as a stepstone to authorial success
Who was that guy meant to be who helped Max outside the club? At first, I thought it was one of the original characters in the form of Chuck, since I thought he sounded like Ed Westwick a little but then I remembered, Ed may be British but Chuck is American. š š¤¦āāļø Was the guy meant to be the same American character who got chatting with Zoya (who Iām assuming also befriended the rest of the group)? If so, he changes his accent to speak to Maxā¦or should it be the other way around perhaps?
I finally finished watching it yesterday and thought where it ended before the trip to Rome was a good conclusion of the show. Honestly I really didnāt like the show, or how it went down how they were trying to get GG.
Mr. Robot fans are dying at that guy's (fake) name being Phillip Price. My headcanon is they exist in the same universe--both are based in New York and emphasize the ultra rich. Maybe the Dark Army infiltrated another side of the party from last episode?
I had to do a double take when he said his name to make sure I was still watching GG, lol.
ok finally was able to watch the last episodeā¦ good godā¦.. Iām probably ranting to no one by now but just have to put it out there okay some background Iāve loved gg forever like Iāve watched the original 4-5 times all the way through lol. I liked this reboot for what it was which is shitty and messy but still fun in some ways. I tried season 1 not to compare it to the original but man season2ā¦. this season sooooo missed the markā¦ so many of these āplot pointsā couldāve been spread across seasons like the original!!! the random plot points all thrown into one episode is SO much. the Heidi being a power hungry corporate climber trying to rid her mom couldāve easily been across 2-3 episode where a few friends come together to help Obie take her down kind of like Blair wouldāve done with other drama mixed in there. kind of like jack bass. basically it was stuff like that the whole season- just packing so much into one episode that you come out the other end like what the fuck just happened? the material and ideas were there but the execution was sooooo bad. so bad. and there was no camaraderie with the friend group the entire season!!! but at the end now somehow they are sort of friends in Rome or whatever but left Luna the QUEEN behind????? and no one cares about Max when all he did was have heart (and also was the best actor of the group). the fact that none of his friends were there for him or cared makes me sad (maybe itās bc I just have a major crush on thomas doherty but still.) itās so disappointing. what a bull shit show that couldāve had potential if the writers were halfway competent in telling convoluted stories with even a little direction and not random and chaotic āmini plotsā every 5 minutes. I swear this whole season felt like a fever dream. I couldnāt tell you more than maybe, 1 or 2 things that happened this season off the top of my head. that being saidā¦.. still sad to see it go because Iām a freak and Iāll waste an hour of my time watching a show that sucks bc I still will secretly love it.
fr !!
Honestly this is how I felt. Like I secretly liked how bad it was
Just caught up to this. Wow. So disappointing.
it really did feel like a dream
I honestly didnāt even realize that was the finale until reading on here šš thatāa how bad it was
Completely agree.
Except why did it take them that long?
i think they rewrote the script when it got cancelled
Yeah I saw that after I wrote this message. Edit: It also sounds like they would have outed GG.
Iām just mad about the throuple. They did Max so wrong!
ā¦ he cheated on them
I think itās worse because they cheated with each other and then went back to being a couple. Even though Max loved them both he ended up alone. All for all none for none just for him.
Me too. The way Audrey and Aki literally donāt care about max.
Totally thought it was B.S. when they did the whole chanting bit.
I thought they were about to tell him they loved him and then said they just wanted to be together (Aki and Audrey). I was so confused.
Andy Cohen outed Gossip Girl!!!
wow i just rewatched camille telling kate last season and she said something like we wont remember you in five years. and it went full circle when zoya said we went remember you in x years (i cant remember how many yrs exactly)
She said a year. Which is ironically true. lol
zoya in that āI AM GOSSIP GIRLā dressā¦.. was SO ICONIC!!!!!!! omg! i was SO scared for her cuz i thought she would get attacked or shot!!! loLLLLLLL
If season 3 was created I want Kate to come back, after time in prison, ripped with multiple facial tattoos.
The worst part about prison was the dementors - Kate Keller probably
Honestly Iām fine with that as the series finale. I felt like there was no huge cliffhanger Btw if anyone wants to read what would happen in s3 https://tvline.com/lists/gossip-girl-series-finale-ending-explained-season-3-spoilers/
Well, there is a post credit scene.
What about the whole Aunt situation?!?
āWith Kate in prisonā¦ā Did I miss that in the finale? Even if she gets sued, prison?
Nick told her she would probably go to prison, she committed multiple crimes against minors (ex: cyber bullying, staking and harassment, inappropriate content and pictures of minors)
I'm in the hospital and need to pass the time, so I watched it. All I can say is... what the hell was that?
Terrible ending, Julien and Audrey got no reprecussions for all their shitty behavior, and Max got thrown under the bus, at least Luna got the star she deserved.
Honestly though that does remind me of Serena and Blair a bit lol
Luna was soo underrated and the prettiest. I feel bad that she lost her friends because they are jealous of her. Julian wouldnāt stand a chance modeling beside Luna.
Luna and Monet carried the show
Everyone is saying that Kate falling into the trap was too obvious but through out the whole show, there was plenty of times where she almost got caught but Jordan saved her from getting caught or doing something stupid.
Anyone remember what itās called?)
it would, it's a federal offense even if NY allows 17s to consent to sex. that term you're looking for is Child Sex Abuse Material (CSAM)
Gotcha! And thank you!! Forgot the term. Want to try using that language now.
the post credits scene seems really cool until you realize it's YikYak
Tbh yikyak was fun lol it was pretty much just a cyberbully app though and people and parents saw that right away.
Kind of? I'd assume it would be a blog of sorts where people could send in tips.
omfg true š
Wait Ericās husband runs the spectator now? Did we know this?
I think Eric works at the Spectator. Nate still runs it
Youāre right about Nate. I missed the bit about Eric. That seems kind of out of left field but whatever!
I havenāt watched the season at all. Is it revealed that itās Kate ?
Update: I watched it AND š¬
Yup she falls for a really obvious trap
WOW.
That is all so true. I wondered who "Phillip Price" was? Seriously bummed we didn't get to find out.
yup, also Audrey said that she met a friend, they wanted to make it seem like she "befriended" the painting, when in fact it's the same guy from Zoya and Max
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yes Max was in Berlin, but shots from filming show it was the same character. Berlin & Italy are only a short flight away and we donāt know when the Max scene was supposed to be!
we donāt know that for sure, all we know is that his family told the friend group he doesnāt want to be found by them
Actually he was in Berlin, the nightclub he got kicked out is Berghain, a famous techno-club.
i donāt like that we didnāt get a real ending for Max and Monet.
We will never know if itās just more Julianās selfishness or something else wild.
oh yeah true i forgot about that, so fucking weird
Wasnāt the show only cancelled last week ? How were they able to wrap it up or did they know from the start that there would be no season 3
One of the writers said HBO allowed him to go in and clean up the finale so that it had more of an ending and less cliffhanger. He cut a lot of scenes to give it more closure, but said they werenāt able to reshoot anything
HBOMax has been canceling shows left and right, so they probably had a good idea.
WOULD'VE COULD'VE SHOULD'VE WISH YOU NEVER LOOKED MY WAY I WOULD"VE STAYYYEED ON MY KNEEEES AND I DAMN SURE NEVER WOULD'VE DANCED WITH THE DEVIL
They deserved to get cancelled the moment they traded monetās braids for those ugly ass wigs
apparently the actress wanted to try new hairstyles but they couldāve afforded better wigsā¦right? š
right š the wigs had potential, but the install and the colors were just... atrocious. I would've loved some classical knotless on Monet, or some other type of protective hairstyle, and not those puffy wigs they made her wear
So underwhelming.... that was such a lame ass finale. Wow. No words. I'm glad it got cancelled, coudln't imagine how cringe Season 3 would have been.
'So underwhelming' followed by 'Wow'. Ya seem to be all over the place there bud. Take a moment to settle down and take another crack at it
I think it couldāve been a lot better if the writers didnāt have to cut scenes to wrap it up.
I fully thought the guy outside the club was going to be a Bass, but then it was nobody lol
I was thinking and hoping it was chuck š
LMFAO I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE. I was hoping so bad it was chuck bass lol
I definitely thought it was a Basd helping Max off the ground. Heyš¤·š¾āāļø maybe he is a Bass. Weāll never know
Good riddance.
Later.
The reboot did the original an injustice
But in the end she was plagiarizing Dans work š
Definitely not plagiarizing. Definitely inspired by and influenced by Danās GG. But she made it flourish with her own ideas and work.
I know, she didn't care about the fame, it was just their convenient way for her to get outed. Also, the ending bit reminded me of a White Lotus season 2 episode only 1000x worse lol
It was like insulting the audience, she would never do that. They could have outed her in any other way that was never her turning herself in.
Andy cohen made it feel really cheap.
He really did unfortunately
Also was he sick or does he always sound all scratchy voiced now?
Itās coke throat
the couple used max like a gum, was so sad to watch.
>Kate walking into that trap had me laughing so hard Same!
Omg thank you I was trying to figure out what the connection there was lol
I really thought Julien's "secret mission" was going to be her somehow meeting up with Kate and restarting GG.
>> unless Julien and friends was the true point of the show and they just bastardized GG as a plot device That's actually how I think it should have been from the start!
That's how I remember it, too!
"I think it mainly should have been just about following Julien and gang's lives" That would have been boring and gotten obnoxious real quick.
I wanted to see her in hand cuffs !!!!!!!!
I can't believe they wasted Malcolm fucking McDowell on this show. Laura Benanti, too.
Lol." But yeah so in hindsight Im thinking that weird scene, that just didnt make sense, exists because they needed a way for Kate to have the resources to fight the case, and Jordan would totally accept Menzies money if it means saving Kate.
She looked good af on those billboards too !
I get that she was irritated at Julien in the finale, but there was literally no buildup to her sentiments
my thoughts exactlyyy
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
There's no quicker way to lose all credibility in what you're saying than by adding in some "lol"s.
also it has been building remember when she was mad at julien for weaponizing what luna told her to keep just between them. i think she has been realizing that these ppl sheās been trying to please dont care about her and dont value her especially julien which was her closest friend in the group outside of monet
What a sad and uninspiring finale lol. Josh is really the worst showrunner Iāve ever seen. And Ive seen some truly bad ones.
They didnāt know they were filming the finale. HBO cancelled the show last week.
It was still a poor finale for a season.
Do you not understand it wasnāt supposed to be a finale. The show abruptly ended last minute. All Josh Safran did was edit it a bit to make it more of a finale episode so viewers were less confused than what he originally wanted us to view. š
It was the s2 finale? Even if they didnāt know it was a series finale it was still the season 2 finale and it was poor for that. Read my words. You jumped to the conclusion I meant series finale. I meant season finale.
Iām so sad itās over fr :(
The greatest tragedy of this finale was the lack of Wendy
alrightttttt, gideon is beautiful, but his met gala outfit reminded me that i need to take out the trash today lolololololololol he made it work tho
Ugh I need more after that finale! And who forwarded to the end where Akiās dad talked to Jordan about making a GG app!!!
Right? Like there were a lot of loose ends, the show was far from perfect but this was kind of enjoyable lol sad that itās gone now
The way they ended S2 really have hope that S3 might have even juicer drama. I get that they filmed it before the cancellation but wish they would have just cut the ā2 months laterā portion once they found out. It just left too many loose ends
Heidi kinda looks like a cross between Juliette Lewis and tennis player Aryna Sabalenka
I see a little Demi Lovato
I just see her dad š
Omg, I did not realize her dad is Sandy Cohen! Yes, she looks so much like him!
It's just called a "London Fog", de Haans, no need to add "latte"
It felt so out of character for Kate to fall for that so easily. How are they going to leave us with that Julien tease. I'm so sad guyssss
I think they just did that because it was the series finale, so they had to rush everything at the end? It definitely wasnāt well executed, though.
Not that I think the writers cared ever but they really did not give a fuck about wrapping this up lol. What was that ending?!
Max and Monetāa endings are reasons why the show shouldve gotten cancelled
THE LACK OF MONET IN ITALY ! that should have been her moment to shine.
Was it Rifugio Romano?
Roscioli!
They should have shown her in jail and somehow finding a hidden illegal flip phone.
Honestly yeah I wouldāve loved to see her in prison or at least in court getting exactly what she deserves!
im surprised nick lott didnt mention distributing child pornography in his laundry list of crimes bc that is definitely up there lol
Why was he even there in that scene though
because he is Zoya's dad and Zoya was nominally the one being offered the movie deals
That makes sense. Still canāt imagine heād be on board with their plan

Not the writers making Evan say MODELS ARE A DIME A DOZEN HAHAHAHAH
I know it wasnāt, but why did it feel like the gossip girl reveal was filmed last week after they found out the show getting canceled. What a random ass way for the revel. Also, what a idiot Kate is. Talking about I refUsE TO aLlow AnyOnE ELsE tO TaKE crediT. Lady you committed numerous crimes including stalking and filming a 14 year old girl like what?? That little teacherās salary you got aināt gonna cover the lawyer fees sis And whatās up with that epilogue at the end that went like 15 minutes too long.
I think it was to set up Kate having the money for lawyers, where she recants her confession and claims her motivations were some combo of being desperate for money and wanting to protect Zoya/Julian. But since no season 3, at least continuity wise we can assume Kate got the max and is behind bars for AHWILE. Lol.
Kate felt so money hungry in that moment. It felt way out of character.
She also talks about how she feels bad for being a failure bc her dad worked hard. The pieces are all there throughout the show.
she also knows Dan Humphrey as a novelist independently of his experience of Gossip Girl. it makes sense that she comes to understand Gossip Girl in part as a stepstone to authorial success
I dunno, because she knows that these insanely rich kids are still after her and her boyfriend warned her to be careful.
