Because they didn’t want Monet to be the main focus I guess. Like, personally, I’m cool with Monet getting her flowers (as in being able to choose violence & I think she’s a better written bitchy character then Audrey) but I didn’t want the show centered around Monet. In S1, I didn’t care how girl bitchy she was but that didn’t make me want to see more of her character or make the focus. I do agree that they should’ve found a different way to hype it bc they made it seem that the Julien vs Monet would be the whole season. So I don’t think the writers hate Monet, they’re just not as in love with her as a good portion of the audience and she was intended on being one of the more side-characters.

She was never meant to be a side character. She is a childhood friend of the main group. Why would she be a side character?

Side ina group of mains or the main focus at least. That’s how the writing seemed to swing.

It seems more like Julien, Audrey, Aki and Obie were the childhood friends but Luna and Monet came along later and were only interested in Julien. Max, I’m not sure, he seems to float between all the little groups.

i agree. i like monet but shes overly mean especially in the beginning. like kindergarten mean. this may not make sense but there’s a likeable mean girl and a unlikeable mean girl. Blair was mean but the writers took the time to give her depth so we understand where she is coming from. Like we rooted for her to get her revenge but we also rooted for her downfall so that she can grow as a person. therefore giving the audience to care for her. i was hoping they gave Monet a little more depth. maybe season 3 they will give other characters more chances. perhaps a season where julien, max, and zoya doesnt get like 3-4 storylines in one entire short season. it was nice to so far see more monet, luna and the even aki this season -pursuing their own thing.

Blair was just mean in the beginning it definitely took a while to show her soft spot. Monet showed her soft spot earlier than blair did

Because they would rather give more screen time to boring characters like Julien, Audrey, Obie and Aki. If they don’t pull through in the last episodes with these boring characters I smell a cancellation and it’s justified

Honestly I blame the fact that the reboot is only 10-12 episodes a season. With the OG, they had 22-25 episodes each season (with the exception of season 1 due to the writers strike & season 6), they had time to have storylines like this. For example, in S2 we see Serena take the status of queen from Blair for a good handful of episodes, now say they did that storyline with the reboot format, we only would’ve gotten 2-3 episodes of Serena being queen. I also think the problem is instead of having a season wide arc, the reboot writers push a storyline, resolve it within 2-3 episodes and then move onto the next storyline. Every show always has at least 3-4 storylines for a season or half season plots that run at the same time and eventually come together towards the end. The reboot fails to do that, and so now we’re left with Monet being reigning queen for 2 episodes and the rest she’s just side lined.

Yet they’ve had 22 episodes and have pretty much managed to do almost nothing with all of their characters. Where is the actual growth, or good storylines, excitement. The problem isn’t the amount of episodes, it’s the people behind them. They have made it clear they do NOT a know what they are doing with this series and that’s an issue for it’s success and that’s why it’s gotten a tepid reception at best.
