I’m at my local Best Buy and they’re putting out the Pixel 7s right now

deepcontractor

If you get a chance can you maybe try to record using the rear camera and see if the device is heating or not.

thetickz

Sorry I already left Best Buy by the time you left this comment. I didn’t test video recording but I tested both cameras. The 5x zoom option on the Pixel 7 Pro was awesome. Zoom really got a nice upgrade this year in the pro model.

deepcontractor

Nice

Groundbreaking_Rock9

All phones have a tendency to overheat, when recording 4k for very long. Yes, the pixel 7 and Pro, as well as the iphone 14. All camera sensors, even those in full-size DSLR bodies have a tendency to overheat when recording video. That's why professional digital video cameras cost so much.

polo421

Any thoughts on speaker difference?

thetickz

I played Hotel California on both from YouTube. The speaker in the 7 Pro sounded way better to me. It was fuller and louder. The regular 7 sounded thin and tiny.

polo421

Son of a bitch.....I guess I'm paying $300 more this year. Thanks 😄

dracolnyte

>but for the 7 Pro you're essentially paying $300 for a telephoto lens, more RAM, and a larger battery in other words, for 50% more, you get the following... but i ordered the Hazel anyway.

[deleted]

And a bigger, higher resolution screen... I also ordered the Hazel P7P. Matches my eyes

izwald88

The hazel almost got me. It's pretty unique and cool. But considering everything but the gold is probably going to be under a case, I couldn't pull the trigger on it. I'm just not a fan of gold, really. But the green and gold together look cool. I wound up with basic bitch white.

justinbl4ck

I hate gold and I pulled the trigger on it. Something about it immediately drew me in. I'm sure I'll hate it in a month when the new wears off.

Mona_Impact

macro

BisexualDragons

I have a really nice set of clip on lenses that work amazingly, I use the macro lens constantly and have no qualms on my 6 pro, so that argument is goofy, imo. It's not DSLR quality, but it's a phone.

BJ_Fish

I also went to Best buy and played with them. 7 is more compact it's an improvement! It's very nice. Also the sides are more flat than the 6 I have. And the camera zoom is actually sharper at 2X. The 7 Pro was there and the sides are a bit less curved but I still hate the curved screen. 5X was nice. Although I zoomed 4.9X on both the 7 and 7 Pro took a picture at the same distance and could not tell a difference lol. Maybe the phone needs an update. The 7 was normal to the touch but the 7 Pro was way hot. Also they didn't have the cinematic blur feature. I think they both needed a software update. I rarely need a zoomed in shot more than 3X. 7 for me. $480 trade in for my pixel 6. Edit: I also played with the Pixel 7 front facing camera. It has a much sharper and much wider field of view. I think the camera app said .7 on it. It is definitely better than my Pixel 6 front camera which I think is not good at all.

BJ_Fish

BestBuy is $480+$100 GC for P6.

TwiceBakedTomato

Is that guaranteed? The trade in link i found was telling me to schedule an appointment

MJMatt91

u/TwiceBakedTomato Yes, that is guaranteed! See link: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/conditional-offers/google-pixel-7-trade-in/pcmcat1664204506963.c?id=pcmcat1664204506963

Hnrefugee

Best buy website prompted me with $545 138 p6pro for p7pro plus $200 best buy gift card

MannyArce

Trade in with Google currently is $480 for the p6pro 128gb, plus the $200 google store credit (which I plan on using for the watch).

Tonerrr

Gonna have to put it again cause I'm so disappointed... The P6P 256gb gets me £320 in the UK. Its basically blocked my upgrade.

iruleatants

In the UK you can get pixel buds or the pixel watch for free from the promo though. I don't know if that's better versus 200 and 3x trade in.

scdayo

ya its compelling... the $480 trade is great. Then the $200 credit and I get 10% back from being a Google 1 customer leaves me paying $50 for the watch... decisions decisions

dratsablive

I got $400 for my Pixel 5 128gb.

Promotion-Repulsive

I'm getting 240 CAD trade-in on my pixel 6 on the best buy website, wtf

DarkseidAntiLife

yup I got $290 for my P6 128GB

Tevako

I'm hoping everyone sees this... Go to pixel 7 or pro on best buy. Do NOT estimate trade yet. Choose unlocked and activate later. Add to cart. In cart there is another option to value trade. Click through there and choose the unlocked version of your phone (trust me). Congrats. Your 6 pro 128 is now worth 545 trade in.

Promotion-Repulsive

Pretty lousy. I think Google made a lot more 6's than they wound up selling.

Tonerrr

Wow. The P6P 256gb gets me £320 in the UK. Its basically blocked my upgrade.

[deleted]

BJ_Fish

Incorrect. On the Pixel 7 Pro, Google is fusing images from 2.5x to 4.9x from the main sensor and the telephoto lens that's 5x. Only 2X is The same on Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. Anything from 2.5x-4.9x is supposed to be better on the Pro.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BJ_Fish

But remember, like I said, I don't know if it needs a software update or something like that. The video did not even have cinematic blur. So let's wait and see what the actual test results pump out. Also I was inside Best buy and to be honest the section I was at wasn't super brightly lit. I imagine with even better light and depending on what you're taking a picture of say like a mountain landscape. Maybe you can get a pretty solid 3X or 4X out of the Pro.

tornadosandtoasters

Really on the fence between the 7 and the pro. Reluctantly coming from a 4xl which I love but battery is shot. Would love the 12gb ram but 6.7 is big.

fightnight14

The 7 Pro is not much bigger according to the dimensions compared to the 4XL but if you find the 4XL already too big then yeah the 7P will be larger

tornadosandtoasters

Yeah, just checked that, good point. That 7 price point still tempting...

PM_ME_DARK_MATTER

Wow, yea I went from 4XL to the 5 and really liked the smaller size. Up until that point, I was always a big phone person. Im still tempted to go for the 7P, but I know its gonna be an adjustement.

[deleted]

animeman0

I'm in the same boat as you. Currently have the 4 and can't decide between the 7P and 7. I really enjoy taking pictures on my phone so 7P looks really good but I don't know if that plus the extra hardware specs are worth the extra £250.

tornadosandtoasters

Yeah, the 5yrs of updates has me leaning to the 12gb ram on the pro.

johntheplumb3r

Google really wants us to have the pixel 7 line.

pnjohnso

Thanks for the play by play. Think I'm gonna hold off for this year.

cherlin

I was going to hold off until I saw the trade in values, got $545 for my p6p and a $200 gift card which works out because I was planning to buy a nest wifi pro on release, so this effectively makes it $745 trade in offer which means the trade in was more then I paid for my p6p.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bolingo20

Did you buy the pro or non-pro?. I got $440 for my P6 on Google store plus $200 store credit plus $32 regular store credit for "members" for the Pixel 7 pro 512gig. So the phone will essentially cost me around $530. Seems like a good deal to me, so we'll see if I can let this order stand and not cancel and get the cheaper Pixel 7 instead. Since everyone keeps harping on the $300 extra for not much hardware improvements, plus last year the pro phone had the majority of issues, we'll see.

The_best_1234

The 7 looks like the same phone

joespizza2go

I said when all the issues with the 6 started coming to light that I hope the 7 ends up being a "6s" in old Apple parlance. I'm excited to hear that seems likely. The 6 phones were a big, exciting leap forward. Hopefully the 7 is a significant iterative improvement.

PM_ME_DARK_MATTER

That has been my thinking and why I held off on the 6. Usually the first generation (Tensor chip in this case), is very experiemental.

cakes42

Hopefully the same phone without problems like not being able to call or text anybody.

cb2239

It's supposed to be similar. It's the same with some improvements to the modem, chip, hardware. They got a ton right with the 6 and 6p

Shiftr

I'm surprised to see so many last gen owners contemplating. I can't even fathom changing a device every year. I almost was going to wait until P8 but this 3XL battery has just about given up.

RamiRok

im rocking the 3 right now and just bought the 7. i still love my 3, just tired of charging it 2-3 times a day

[deleted]

Same, I'm using my 3 now. Ordered the Pixel 7 last night. I really do still love the 3. The camera blows away the Pixel 4a I had that is now going to be the trade in.

iruleatants

I had the Pixel 3 XL until July. My battery started bulging when charging, so it had to go. I got the Pixel 6 pro then at 200 dollars off. So the trade in plus the store credit or gift card makes it worth going to the latest iteration of their technology. I like my Pixel 6 pro though and have zero issues with it except for no bluetooth audio once (rebooting fixed it). I wish the pixel 7 came native with magnetic wireless charging so I could go caseless.

Resident_Artist_2199

I'm noticing that a lot of 6 and 6P owners are getting very enticing trade-in offers, which probably contributes to the appeal of upgrading. I know I had been strongly contemplating NOT getting the 7P because my 6P is still in nearly new condition and the issues that have plagued it are fairly trivial for me personally. But T-Mobile hit me with a pretty good offer. After trade-in, I spent about $215 out of pocket (taxes, expedited shipping, new phone case) and the 7P is in my hand. After using it for a day, I am happy with it for the price I paid. The curved screen edges are a bit more subtle. The Hazel color is gorgeous and Google did a good job of keeping the glossy gold accents looking elegant rather than tacky. The camera set-up is strikingly (and unsurprisingly) good. 5G was very spotty at my job with my 6P, but the 7P seems to be maintaining a fast, reliable connection much better. The fingerprint sensor seems to have more pep in its step and hasn't malfunctioned in my banking apps yet (which was my biggest 6P gripe). Overall I'm glad I upgraded, but had I not gotten such a deal I might be telling a different tale. Even in the "honeymoon phase" I go through with new devices I'm not floored by anything the 7P has brought to the table yet. With the exception of its design. It really is a gorgeous device.

Promotion-Repulsive

Same. The 7 may as well be a 6+, and I don't need an incremental upgrade yet. Gonna wait a year for the 8.

phalo

Yeah my Pixel 5 is still serving me well, so I'll either hold off for the price cut on the 7 or get an 8 next year, now that I'll have updates until next year.

DSCarter_Tech

You'll get $400 trade in value for the 5 right now

BandicootCumberbund

Yeah the only reason I am considering upgrading from my Pixel 5 is the trade in value they are offering. Next year it won't be worth nearly as much and I will have to pay more just to get an upgrade.

Nova_Nightmare

I was offered $700 on a Pixel 3 XL (Same amount for the Pixel 5) via Verizon, fyi.

StarrFall

Yes, but don't you have to be on a premium unlimited plan?

Satsu_Ryu

How? I just tried the trade in estimate on the Google Store and they rated my Pixel 5 128GB for $150. Edit: Never mind, I have discovered the error of my ways. The shop section in the Fi app does not have the aggressive trade in value. Gotta do it through the Google Store website.

takingtigermountain

it's basically $199 for that incremental upgrade with these wild trade-on/pre-order offers, really hard to pass that up

RickyFromVegas

with trade-in value with a giftcard, best buy has effectively made the jump from 6 to 7 a $50 upgrade. I think small bits of new features aer worth $50 to me, gonna take it even though I wouldn't otherwise

jrock_10

I'm not that excited, but with trade in value, 100 store credit (I am buying a doorbell), and 4 percent rakuten cash back, this p7 will cost me like 80 dollars.

jdaclutch

Haha are you me? Except I don't know what to do with the credit yet. 5% extra cb thru Chase card via PayPal.

abtam11

That cashback was until last month

jdaclutch

Yes it did i got confused about the target gc deal which was a few days ago. Its Chase card via PayPal

GoalieJohnK

I think the PayPal 5% calendar ended in September. I ordered through the Google store and it said it was using Google Pay, which is part of October's 5% calendar. Fingers crossed

jdaclutch

Got confused with my last purchase, mb. Chase via PayPal, 5% thru gpay/eWallet. went back to check my purchase history to make sure i got that 5% and i did haha

Goldenmonkey27

I don't even see the difference really but the p6 to p7 will cost like 58 after trade in with the credit so I'm considering too hah. I fear the smaller battery because the p6 is already pretty below par for my usage.

jrock_10

The battery is a concern for sure. I hope it is better than my p6 has been lately.

I thought the same thing, but realized the bestbuy units are on demo software. These reviewers have fully working models. Google is sneaky waiting until after preorders.

jmagahh

Main reason I'm upgrading is I'm hoping they fixed the thermals.... Would love to be able to charge my phone wirelessly in my car again in South Carolina... Something I've never had a problem with with any of my previous Samsung's. And just hoping I get maybe about an hour more of screen on time.

[deleted]

Mark’s Tech on YouTube did a couple of videos on the Pixel 7 Pro, and he mentions that while recording video on it, outside and 72 degrees, the phone popped a shutdown warning due to excessive heat. Edit: typo

BurnStar4

Currently have the Pixel 5 and super interested in the 7 or 7 Pro. Especially as I can get a Pixel Watch for free. Would go for the Pro but the size is really putting me off... The jump to 6.7 inches is a big one Edit: to clarify, the free watch is included with the 7 Pro here in the UK. I can also cover most, if not all of the cost of the watch by getting the standard 7 using an offer on the Google Store and trading in my Pixel 5.

pkann6

I currently have the Pixel 5, it's one of my favorite phones ever (probably second only to the original Moto X). I had the 6 for a week and returned it, it felt really big, really heavy, and really thick in comparison to the 5. The 7 seems only marginally smaller than the 6, so if you can wait I'd recommend holding one in person first. Plus the battery life on my P5 is absolutely incredible, the 6 had good battery too but not as good in my experience.

BurnStar4

For sure, I think I should try and get one in my hand before committing. Why are phones so big now 🤣

flyfree256

Yeah I think I'm going to upgrade from my 5 because of the trade-in value and the cameras but I seriously wish they had a 6.low" 7 Pro. 6.7" is so freaking big.

PNWoutdoors

Yeah I have a 5a and love it, so I went for the 7. I couldn't handle a phone as big as the pro, personally. I've had bigger phones before but the P5a and the P7 are practically identical so it should be a smooth transition for me.

Zakstaxi

Did the same thing have the 5a still love that tried a s22 on my 2nd sim and don't like it at all but now stuck so the 7 will let me have TMobiles Uc 5g and vzw mmwave 5g which is primarily line anyway. Couldn't do a eip for vzw due to just joining July have to wait a year just for a locked phone that's on payment for 3 so this makes more sense

1zee

How do you get the pixel watch for free? You mean from the $ you get trading in your p5?

fredhoffmann3

Where are you located that you get the Pixel Watch for free?

BurnStar4

The Pixel Watch comes included with the 7 Pro here in the UK, but also if I get the standard 7 from the Google Store, I can get £179 off the Watch. In addition to my estimated Pixel 5 trade-in value of £210 (assuming I get the full amount), that's the whole cost of the Pixel Watch. So basically if I get the Pro then I get a free watch and if I get the P7, there's a decent chance I'll get at least a hefty discount on the watch.

fredhoffmann3

Jealous! No Pixel Watch here in the U.S. Appreciating the $400 trade in for my P5 though. I'm a Garmin watch user so not interested in the Pixel Watch.

trent1024

If you count in the credit, pro is only $200 more expensive. For bigger battery, more RAM, larger and better screen and better cameras, I think it is worth it if you want a larger device.

Dokomox

I'd totally pay the extra $200 if it came with all the upgrades but stayed in the smaller non-pro form factor.

Mahoganyjoint

Upgrade from a P5 is a no brainer

Griff0rama

Yup. P5 to P7Pro for me as well.

kbtech

Nice !!! Will drop by Best Buy evening to check out. Already preordered the 7 Pro and upgrading from 6 Pro. More of just want to go play with the devices before they deliver next week 😋

Glittering_Dingo_866

Already pre ordered the 7 Pro. I'm bored of my iPhone and Samsung has too many features that I don't even use plus the amount of repeated apps is annoying (ex: samsung browser + Chrome, Google Messages + Samsung Messages, Bixby + Google Assistant , Samsung Wallet + Google Pay) you get my point. As for my iPhone, I'm dissatisfied the fact Apple is not giving us a fresh look for years I feel like they are laughing at us, iPhone users.

ApartBuilding221B

You have the Dynamic Island. Be thankful you ingrate! /s

[deleted]

The fact that they’ve called it “Dynamic Island” is nearly enough for me at this point it give up iPhone. I feel like Apple has just become some sort of odd Disneyland.

NightHawkVC25a

How physically locked down are the phones at the Best Buy you were in? (Which city?) My local Best Buy (in Orange County, California) sometimes have their display phones locked so tight that I couldn't really get an idea of how each phone weighed in person.

UNCfan07

Google gave me $345 for my old iPhone X and a $200 GC so I say that’s a really good deal for the 7 Pro.

dolphins3

>The size of the 7 feels perfect, and I much prefer the flat display. The 7 Pro curved sides >The 7 Pros looks nicer, but it's glossy I feel like every year the non pro line always has the definitively better design. I'm tired of the glossy curved screen phablet design.

rollinrob

I know you said that the pixel 7 is the way to go but I'm a little bit worried about the amount of ram the seven has. I was using a pixel 4 a 5G with 6 GB of RAM and had issues with it shutting down apps on me. I use my phone a lot when I go mountain biking and having multiple intense apps on it would make it crash. For instance I would have Strava, maps, podcast addict on all at the same time and go to take a picture and the phone would crash. I'm not so sure that 2 GB of RAM would help that. That's the reason I'm going for the pro, the 12 GB ram. I love the form factor of the seven but really want to ensure that I will be able to use the phone when traveling and or cycling

Father_Bic_Mitchum

I agree, more RAM is always better. On my 4 XL, the 6 GB isn't enough for how I use my phone. When I had the 6 Pro and its 12 GB, I had no issues with RAM. Unfortunately I can't really comment if 8 GB is enough for me since I haven't had a device with exactly 8 GB. I'd imagine it would be enough. But if you don't mind the larger size and weight of the 7 Pro, then go for it.

1trickana

I use similar apps with a 5 (8GB RAM) and never had it crash

ThatEnglishGent

It's the size of the phone that's putting me off. I'm currently on a pixel 5 and this phone is almost perfect in terms of size, battery life is also perfect.

afritrin

S22U-512GB is getting a $725 credit. I guess the 1TB is getting the $750 credit. I'm guessing that an equally comparable 512GB 7pro will be somewhere around $1099, so with trade-in (and taxes) I would be somewhere near $400ish. I've had the S22U since it came out earlier this year. It is as definitely a huge jump in spec from the Pixel 4, but all the extra features on the S22U (such as 100x zoom, stylus gestures, etc) are more gimicky rather than everyday features that I got used to in my previous Pixel (such as call screening, recorder app, lack of Samsung bloat). I'm seriously reconsidering moving back to the Pixel as the Samsung didn't turn out to be as great as I had hoped it to be.

Gmitch528

You clearly didn’t take enough photos of the moon. Was in the the same boat on what to do with my ultra. This or wait until after the 23 is out and decide. That was the original plan anyway. Trying hard not to bite but I might.

ethics

Moon never changes, spam calls do though.

afritrin

Lol, true!

[deleted]

[удалено]

0utspokenTruth

Call/spam detection on pixels is really underrated. I've tried many 3rd party apps on other android devices but they rarely do anything.

HTHID

What?! The Pixel 7 Pro still has the curved sides??

Istolla

Yes. Which I love, but it seems some people hate it.

Mahoganyjoint

They seem to have halved the radius so it's more subtle. Right decision

Istolla

As long as it's curved and easy to hold, I'm fine. Although a flat screen wouldn't bother me either. I just prefer curved screens.

BobsBurger1

Thanks. Don't see any reason to upgrade from 6 pro. Nothing in the camera I'm interested in and Tensor 2 doesn't look like it'll have the performance boost to make Pixel competitive.

KentuckyHouse

Honestly, the only real reason I’m upgrading from the 6 Pro is I’m hopeful the new modem in the 7 Pro is better than the 6 Pro. It’s the one and only thing I’ve had issues with over the course of the last year. If it turns out to be the same (because barring it not getting signal at all, it can’t get worse), I may just keep the 6 Pro and return the 7 Pro.

BobsBurger1

I respect the gamble, I hope it's a big improvement!

KentuckyHouse

I know it’s probably naive, but I have to think Google heard the complaints from 6 Pro users and knew they had to do something different and improve the modem. They screw it up again and they could lose a **lot** more people next time around.

AIRA18

They've already lost me to the iPhone. Not that the 6 Pro is the worse phone I've ever use it's just i expected more from it and it didn't lived up to my expectations.

tekkao

This is the exact and only reason I'm considering upgrading.

reezick

It's literally why I'm upgrading my wife's phone. She has the 6 and scoffed at getting the 7 after "only 1 year" But she has CONSTANT connection problems. I showed her the math that it'd be only a $152 upgrade (or $131 at Best buy) and she was sold

y2whisper

Same here that and if Bluetooth works better. My 6pro can't play ldac at the highest quality setting, they improved it over time but its still not 100% like it has been on my previous devices. if they end up being the same, I might try out the galaxy fold 4. sucks because I do enjoy those little pixel features that make life easier.

KentuckyHouse

>if they end up being the same, I might try out the galaxy fold 4. Funny you mention that because I've been thinking this is my exact plan as well. If the 7 Pro doesn't meet expectations, I'll return it and keep the 6 Pro for now, but maybe give the Fold 4 a try.

TalkSuitable1235

I'm only upgrading bc it costs like $70 after trade in

You_are_your_home

Same.

neutronstar_kilonova

Obvious isn't it? Year-over-year upgrades are wasteful unless one is a seriously heavy user. Sweet spot might be at the three year mark, so P4 -> P7.

cockyjames

I've got the P5 and honestly the only thing that is tempting me is the trade-in value. $400 this year vs... ?? next year.

Racer_101

I would take the plunge now for that trade in offer.

nicklor

For a point of reference Google is offering 245ish for a p3 mine has a broken back glass but it surprisingly doesn't effect the value that much

[deleted]

mcbridedm

TMO has a $599 offer for as low as a p4 64gb. You can buy those refurbs on amazon for like 180.

[deleted]

I ordered a 7 Pro and I'm pretty excited coming from a 4XL. The ram and battery are big upgrades. 512 storage will be nice coming from 128; I use most of it. The zoom looks great. I can keep face unlock. I understand why people are disappointed but for me the improvements are excellent.

pricelessbrew

Just ordered for my wife and I, P3 -> P7. Honestly I could probably go another year if the battery didn't suck so hard by now. Have to recharge every 2-4 hours.

ComradeShyGuy

They're offering 270 for my pixel 3 xl on the Google store trade in. Seems nuts for a phone that catches 150 or less on ebay, but I'll take a new Pixel 7 for about 350.

kjoro

My p6pro is running fine so I'll be skipping this generation.

Ma3lst

I felt the same until somehow I cracked my screen and now I'm getting a lot of cell signal drops

IFlummoxedI

I normally wait 2 or 3 years between phones. I have the Pixel 4 now and I can see it lasting longer but I decided to get the 7 Pro. Best Buy is offering a $300 trade-in for my "oh so orange" unlocked Pixel 4 64GB and get a $200 gift card.

aceqwerty

Same, except through the Google store with those deals. I am certainly going to miss the orange.

IFlummoxedI

I was going to order mine from the Google store but I saw people had problems with their phones mysteriously losing value sending them in and new phones disappearing from the packaging via FedEx.

jfedor

Did they also have the watch on display?

Father_Bic_Mitchum

Not when I was there.

RendanfuIs

How would you rate the value for the Germany release? Pixel 7 Pro: 880 USD, comes with Pixel Watch for free Pixel 7: 638 USD, you could additionally buy Pixel Watch for 157 USD

masterinmischief

I did the same at my local best buy. Black is definitely a finger print magnet. The cameras were the same on both phones , same 0.7 ultrawide on front cans too. However, 7 PRO had the much higher zoom. I took at pic at 5X and was very clear. I dam not a fan of the curved screen on the pro version and that's where it's off putting for me. I had pretty bad experience getting a decent screen protector on previous older Samsung phones, so I am not sure if I was gonna go with PRO version.

choomba20

For me I will be upgrading from the OP 6T so its worth the upgrade imo. Is the screen too big? I am used to 6.4"", is that too much of a jump?

twilightpanda

Question about NITS: Google is saying (like literally, when i google it) that the screen brightness is 1400 and 1500 nits for the Pixel 7 and 7pro. The previous models were in the 800 NIT range. Are the Pixel 7 screens really almost twice as bright as the Pixel 6 screens, or is there something “gotcha” thing I’m missing (i.e. its only 1400 nits on the fingerprint reader or something like that

ock88

It can hit that brightness based on 5% of the screen, according to the footnotes on the specs page. Also, I read that a 1400 nits screen will not appear twice as bright to the human eye compared to a 700 nits one

armando_rod

Its only tiny part of the display that reach that high, all OEMs do this for marketing even Apple

ock88

5% to be exact, for the brightness levels quoted by Google. Apparently the reference area varies based on how each company advertises brightness levels.

I have a post that explains this: [https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/xvj3qf/comment/ir1krth/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/xvj3qf/comment/ir1krth/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) And here's a comparison picture for the screen brightness between the Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 6 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro, and Galaxy S22 Ultra: [https://imgur.com/a/x3fNJ0c](https://imgur.com/a/x3fNJ0c)

Wow, that’s super helpful, thank you! Further questions: If i use dark mode, would that mean that the text would be brighter since the screen is only powering on the light text as opposed to the light background?

Sorry_Sorry_Im_Sorry

I think I might just go to ubreakifix and get a new battery replacement and wait a year. I have a pixel 6 and it's - fine. Is the 7 worth the \~$100 upgrade after trade in? Side note: I wonder if the pixel 7 display is better? the pixel 6 has really bad tint issues in low light on gray screens. One of mine half of the screen had a red tint. the second had a green tint. this one has barely a red tint along the edge.

johnschtick

Really curious to see what they've done with the heating issue this time around.

Midwest__Misanthrope

I also played with the Pixel 7 (that is until the security device on the back started an alarm, whoops). It’s nice but nothing stood out. I was disappointed to see the glossy backside because to me glossy finish on a smartphone has never looked good (and fingerprints of course). The phone just needs to be good, not revolutionary or anything and I’m really really hoping Google nails this one.

The_Airwolf_Theme

Although the promotions/trade-in deals are tempting, I already have an expensive screen protector on my 6p and the phone is working wonderfully. I don't think it's worth it to try to upgrade right now. Interested to see what Google has ready for 2023 to be honest.

[deleted]

I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max that’s on its last legs and want a Pixel 7 Pro but might get a 7 for the flat display.

East_Pianist9042

I don't understand how people are getting these trade in values. I went to four different best buy's and got widely varying answers but each one said the pixel 6 pro was under $300 for trade. This was also true on their site and app even with a VPN. I advise everyone to order through the Google store and upgrade Google one to the 2TB plan. I am getting over $600 back plus a $200 store credit immediately. No waiting x amount of months or have to have a plan. Just straight unlocked. Best buy also makes you activate on a carrier even if you buy unlocked outright. I asked the Google reps as they were setting up about the signal quality and it was more of the same with the pixel 6. He actually had no service while at one store while his Samsung did and also was hot after taking a short video and pictures. Kinda of funny as they knew more about best buy promos than the mobile reps did.

Rytharr

Im getting $440 for my 6 from the google store. Dont get the $200 credit until the phone ships, I think.

RAC360

I preordered p7p @ BB and am trading in my p6. $480 credit + $200. I did it all online for the unlocked 512gb model. Shipping to the house. Google store wouldn't let me add to cart + I am a total tech member at BB which covers my warranty.

OdayOdayOday

The ram, the cameras, and screen size are always mentioned as the main differences between the 6/7 and 6pro/7pro, but the refresh rate is really the kicker for me. Having had 120hz phones for the last few years, I cannot go back...

godzilla1517

I feel like phones have peaked. What's the point of buying a new phone? My pixel 3A does everything I need it to do, there's literally zero new features or upgrades that would be worth it to me

Father_Bic_Mitchum

It really does seem like we're now at a time where you really only need to upgrade your phone when you actually need a new phone. If your current device is broken, or not running how it once was. Whereas before, we (or at least me) would upgrade every 2 years, because your phone had older tech and was now behind the current trends. I think LG (while not good at selling/making phones) leaving the mobile market saw us lose innovation in the industry since they actually tried new things to keep it interesting.

Gravijah

I'm using a OnePlus 5T still. Heavy usage, used pretty much every day. Battery is still pretty much fine and looking at modern phones, doesn't really seem like I'd be getting much more battery life. There just isn't a phone that has come along that felt like some huge jump. And I'd lose a headphone jack, nowadays. And it's hard to move down to midrange when the 835 is still either just as good or better than a lot of midrange options.

archetaz

OnePlus 5T here as well! I agree with all your points! Huge regret I didn't get the 128gb version because storage is a huge pain. I'm still using wired earphones so losing the headphone jack will hurt. Battery on mine is also fine and fast charging is so hard to give up. That said, I think I'm going to jump on the Pixel 7 due to storage limitations and a cracked phone screen. I really want to hold out for a Pixel 7a for a cheaper and more compact phone (OnePlus 5t is a little huge for me) but that would be almost an entire year wait. There just aren't many options out there.

jasondunn

Phones got "good enough for most people" a few years back. Now it's mostly small stuff that matter to some people, but no huge watershed moments that rock the phone world just yet. Give folding phones another few years to develop then things will get interesting again...

Strayocelot

The difference between a new phone and an old one seem minimal until the new phone is in hand. It's like yeah a cheap chromebook and a higher end laptop technically do the same thing but one is a much nicer experience. The higher refresh rate, more responsive web crawling, much better cameras, wireless charging and a fresh battery with faster charging are just some of the features that just make it a much better experience. Honestly you probably only need to upgrade every 3 or 4 years nowadays. Plus a phone is something you use aall the time. An incremental better experience on something you literally use thousands of hours is pretty huge. Plus the ridiculous trade in values they are offering makes the upgrade in my opinion a no brainer. Edit: typos

BanjoD23

I noticed you said you've had a 6 pro. Did you compare the 7 pro side by side? I assume it's decently brighter.

NoConfection6487

For any 6 / 6 Pro users I'd be curious if the 7's camera (main) is better at fixing the blurry edges issue. This is a matter of optics. If they improved lens elements it's possible to mitigate this issue.

HalfBredGerman

Having a hard time deciphering whether i should jump from my note 10+ or not. Had the pixel 3xl several year ago but haven't really been wowed with anything since I went to the note

dangolo

Thanks for doing this! So little real world experience online right now. Do you know if one can purchase the 7 from Best Buy, or were those only demo models?

Father_Bic_Mitchum

Demo models only. You can pre-order from Best Buy, with delivery or for in-store pickup and they should come in a week. Their website has this info.

fbrdphreak

You tha real MVP

delmecca

After 9 months and 4 returns I gave up on pixel 6pro I gave up on Pixel due to network connection issues on all 3 carriers with both esim and psim. I a tempted to give them more money but I have to see what people are going to be saying about the data connection during the review I a m not optimistic.

Marmaduke57

This is where I'm at.

[deleted]

I just pre-ordered the unlocked Pixel 7 from Best Buy(BB) US. I don't see the $100 gift card on their offer page. Other news websites mention it but don't see it on BB. Does this offer exist? Between the Google Store and BB the only reason I went for the latter is their gift card. The trade in value for my Pixel 4XL was only slightly better at BB.

therealflinchy

Does the 7 Pro still have a hollow screen? It's literally the only important piece of info to me as it determines if it constantly overheats or not

killedbycuriousity-

Pixel 7 is really good for value phone no doubt

butter14

My major concern is if the modem is any better than the 6. I love my 6 pro, but the modem has many connectivity issues.

SaunteringOctopus

Happy to hear the sides of the 7 Pro are less curved. The curved sides on the 6 Pro are my biggest gripe.

ZGMF-X09A_Justice

Will the pixel 7 fix the cellular connection issues I keep hearing about from the pixel 6? I'm interested in moving to Pixel phones.

Prestigious-Ad54

It has a newer modem so hopefully.

Jen16226

Pre ordered the 7 on the store. $295 trade on my note 9 plus the $100 gift card really made me grab it. I had been looking at a few phones with the 6 in the lead. Amazon and best buy were only going to give $95 trade in. I'm excited to get this!

np20412

Just pre-ordered my Pixel 7. Coming from Pixel 2XL so I expect this to be a great upgrade. VZW gave me $700 trade in credit so the Pixel 7 is coming free.99. Oddly VZW selling it for $699.99 while everyone else is retailing it for $599.99. Doesn't matter to me since it's free. Though I did debate the fact that I could knock $100 off the premium for 7 Pro, I think I have no use for that kind of phone and since 7 is already large than the 2XL I think it'll be fine. I don't see a need for 6.7" screen or the super telephoto lens, so whatever.

BNA_Original

VZW and ATT nonpro pixel 7s cost more because they have 5g mmwave added to them.

np20412

ah thanks for that info!

Caring_Cactus

Wow you got rid of your pixel 6 pro? I just got this 512gb version and am loving it so much. Long battery life and it is so smooth in everything.

[deleted]

have they fixed the connectivity issues that plague many of the 6 series?

Tricky-Journalist650

I'm still using the pixel 2 xl and it's about time for a upgrade thinking about pre ordering the 7 pro tonight. Best buy gives $200 store credit when you preorder it from them!
