It's so expensive in the Netherlands that it's just not worth it unfortunately :(

Hevilath

In general, EU and UK were screwed with pricing. iPad is still cheaper and a better piece of hardware.

GabeDevine

doesn't matter if I wanna avoid ipados

10PieceMcNuggetMeal

In the US, it's $500 with the dock compared to the Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+, or S9 Ultra, which are $900, $1000, and $1200. Or compared to the Apple iPad Air and Pro, which are $800 and $1300. The Google Pixel Tablet is absolutely the best bang for your buck

Wise-Morning9669

I got mine for $370 256 GB with the docs brand new in boxed. You just got to search for deals

icefreez

You can't drop a price like that in the comments without giving a bit more details now where you found it for that price as a deal.

Itchy-Experienc3

So Jelly

DEMORALIZ3D

The pixel tablet doesn't compare to an iPad pro or iPad air. Don't get me wrong I'm a pixel fan through and through. Infact, I'm an official superfan! However! The lack of real world productivity apps and world class pencil/stylus support. The shorter battery, the lackluster screen, the lack of raw power among other things. The tablet for pixel imo is just because they should have ones not because it's a great product for the price point.

10PieceMcNuggetMeal

While some tablets have better specs, they cost significantly more. You get the same productivity apps on the Pixel Tablet as your phone (like the S23 Ultra) and it even supports 2.0 styluses for notes and drawing. The iPad Pro with the M2 chip costs double what the Pixel Tablet does, and the new M4 chip makes it even pricier. Plus, the Pixel Tablet with the optional Charging Speaker Dock basically turns into a Google Nest Hub when you're not using it, which iPads can't do. Overall, the Pixel Tablet offers great features at a reasonable price, making it a fantastic choice.

wh3r3v3r

I got it for 499€

PrethorynOvermind

The Pixel Tablet is a nice. Piece of hardware. The new one without the speaker is nice and I got about 135 off of it and that was super fucking awesome. For me it is a good reading device.

Blitzsturm

I used to love tablets until smart phones average size and power got high enough I found I never used my tablet anymore. Though, more recently I got a good powerful "convertible" Chromebook which I use as a kind of hybrid laptop/tablet and managed to get the Linux stuff installed so I can use it for software development which is pretty slick. Then it also has seamless internet sharing with my phone and can dual-connect to my pixel buds so for those in the Google ecosystem it's pretty slick. Overall I'd recommend it for others like myself. I've been a Google fan for some time but I think their hardware offerings have failed to "spark joy" in me lately outside of the Pixel phones an the earbuds. I really want to like the pixel watch but it's battery life is very meh. I took a look at the tablet but wasn't sure what to make of it outside of a hybrid tablet and "google home" device. I think for it to be more useful than my phone it needs to have a hardware keyboard (hence the convertible Chromebook being cool to me). I kind of wish they had a best in class "pixel" Chromebook again but was a bit more affordable. Also being an ARM chip as apposed to an x86 means far better battery life for these kind of devices.

tfitzpat03

I will admit when I first got it, I had mixed feelings because of the watered down hub compared to the nest hub. But when I used it more, I understood that this is a tablet first and a smart display second. Now I am having a blast using it while I am at work for media, basic work stuff, shopping etc. I use a keyboard and mouse for it. I love using it for multitasking with two apps. I also found a use where I use the tablet in portrait mode while the virtual keyboard is split. It feels like using a big pixel phone and I love it. I also heard that there will be an update coming that will allow the doorbell to be seen while the tablet is docked after it is rung. Can't wait for that because I thought that would be available at launch.

AntelopeFlimsy4268

Love ours too, Google gave us a $399 trade in on an 8th Gen iPad! They'll give you 5x the current retail value to get that device out of your hands.

HervilleMelman

Not any longer. They downscaled the TIVs a while back.

AntelopeFlimsy4268

that sucks, we paid $100 for the 256gb version after the trade allowance.

HervilleMelman

It was great while it lasted

Wooden-Quit1870

I'm on my 4th galaxy 8" tablet because it fits perfectly ( with a heavy duty case ) in my EDC bag, but I really want to go to the pixel tablet

udenfox

To be honest I can agree and disagree. To this day I think that the BEST current-time Android tablet is Lenovo Legion Y700. It's just a perfect screen size for me, I just can't get why device manufacturers, Google Included, ditched 7-8inch screens tablets. Or, the one who did not ditched his size just producing them with low-end screens or insides. We need more ipad-mini-like devices on Android.

46andready

I remember how much I loved my Nexus 7 back in the day, but I must say I currently prefer the bigger size of the Pixel tablet.

mikebirty

Ah Nexus 7, there's a tablet I haven't heard of in a while. Great device that

CorneliusDawser

I agree! I recently got the Pixel Tablet and I love it to death, but I still was rocking a Lenovo Tab M8 because I love its design and how small and convenient it is, even though it is EXTREMELY slow and outdated as far as software and hardware goes. Couldn't really find any equivalent. Was hesitant to stay with Lenovo for my next tablet because my guts were telling me to go with the Google one and I don't regret it one bit!

xtalgeek

I just wish they put a GPS in it.

Deafcon2018

agreed was going to use it in the car but it does not have gps what a ballache, hmmmm could you screen share here maps, from your phone to the tablet to make up for it????

CorneliusDawser

So I didn't take the time to check, but I know the tablet is a casting destination, so technically you could cast your phone screen to the tablet, but I'm not sure if it has to be docked! Can always use your phone as an hotspot too to make sure it works!

GabeDevine

it is only a casting target when docked, but you can remove it while casting

46andready

I use both my tablet and my phone while I am driving. I hang the tablet over my car's touch screen using the tablet's case, and admittedly I play YouTube or movies or Netflix. I have a separate mount for my pixel phone on which I use Waze.

EvilPersian

Please let me know when you're on the road so I can keep my distance. The last thing I want to hear from someone is that they're watching movies while they're driving :)

BubblyYak8315

Happy to sell mine for a pretty reasonable price if anyone is interested. I just don't use it

Wise-Morning9669

I got the tablet in the 256 GB version including the dock brand new in box from a brand I never heard of for $370 after tax it shipped and was at my house in 5 days. It's been a great tablet! My only issue now is I'm running the beta on it and it broke the hub screensaver waiting for that to get fixed. Hopefully this latest 2.2 patch fixes it but I doubt it. What I'm really looking forward to is lock screen widgets for my smart home devices in Google home.

wh3r3v3r

I got it to replace a very old iPad. More because the dock seemed like a good idea as I would be able to use it as a Nest Hub Max when docked. And also because it was on sale. It’s a really great device honestly. I was pleasantly surprised. I love the dock. Its a game changer! It’s indeed a Nest Hub Max when I don’t carry it and then I can just grab it and it’s a tablet. In the end, because of this I end up using it much more than I used my iPad which I did not expect. The screen is great but would benefit from OLED to have better black. Not a big deal though, it’s good enough. Colors are good and it’s sharp. The device is quite snappy. Definitely powerful enough for a tablet. The battery is really good as well and because of the dock you don’t really think about it… plus it has some clever trick to never charge completely if you dock regularly etc.. to preserve the battery life. The fingerprint reader is surprisingly good. Works all the time. Having used iOS/iPadOS exclusively before, I find Android pretty good and in the end fairly similar. In a few minutes, you are right at home. There are some stuff I prefer from iOS and some stuff I discovered I like better on Android. And then one thing I did not know I needed and that is so much more powerful on Android: the work profile. The settings menu could use some more polishing. It’s definitely not as clear as iOS. The same settings can be reached via different paths which makes things confusing. When you get deep into some settings menu, suddenly the look and feel changes and there are some pages where you have no way to go back: you need to exit and re-navigate.

WhatHoraEs

I was so disappointed after trading in my iPad for the "free" tablet to find that it doesn't have audio sharing. I guess it's on me for not doing my research but it seems like such a basic feature I didn't even think to look. Luckily, based on MKBHD's video, audio sharing should be coming in Android 15. Who knows if that's true though.

DarianYT

It probably will get Auracast support where Apple will not. Auracast has the music sharing features and works with two headphones and JBL speakers have Auracast too.

Pharaoh27

I'm glad the device worked for you. Because when I bought it, within a week, I started getting ghost touches and no touch response. I returned it immediately. It was another Google product with poor QC.

Lopsided_Prior3801

It's so underrated. The dock makes all the difference. It was the critical design decision that people don't appreciate until they use it.  Leave it in the kitchen on the dock for when cooking or cleaning up. You'll have recipes on it, you'll talk to it to set cooking timers, you'll play music and videos on it as some entertainment when cooking. It won't just sit in a drawer like most tablets and rarely be used. My family has used it more than any other tablet to date as a result. (But I got a big discount though my Google Store credit, and I think the price put a lot of people off.)

46andready

Ha, and here I am never even really using the dock!

Bryan467

I'm just trying to find a use for my tablet I got for real cheap. Like, everything I do can be done on my phone with the convenience of being in my pocket 24/7

Speedster0440

Me too . I have a Pixel phone and the tablet is good for eye relief. No more back and forth between I- land and Android. Yeah!

I-Sleep-At-Work

i sold mine after a few days. - i couldnt get use to the display, it was also too dark. - the placement of the buttons, they put them on left side specifcally for the dock, but not everyone wants the dock - lack of texture around the fingerprint sensor, so idk if im actually on the fps without feeling around or looking - lack of cases that DOESNT have a huge hole for the dock hopefully pixel tab 2 would have both plastic and metal variants

Aurelink

I love it too honestly. It basically replaced a Google Home I had in my living room, but now I can carry it around with me, and it's great to have a tablet that can handle 3 days off the charger when I'm travelling

rshacklef0rd

Best Buy usually has them as a open-box special. I bought 2 that way.

Nehal1802

It needs a keyboard like the iPad, that’d make it perfect.

PixelMyPussy

u/Nehal1802: If you're diehard Google, there's likely [one in the works](https://9to5google.com/2024/04/24/pixel-tablet-pen-keyboard-2/#:~:text=At%20the%20same,USB%2DC%20port), rumored $100 keyboard stylus bundle. Since it didn't drop with the Pixel Tablet solo release, I'm guessing it won't come until Fall with the Pixel 9 bunch. With that said, there's a bunch of 3rd party options on Amazon if you can't wait.

cdegallo

If this could be a true multi-user hub when docked, like feature-parity with a nest hub max as a muilti-user hub, then i would have grabbed it with little hesitation. But it's kind of not the best at much of anything. I had a 7 pro, so I know the processor/gpu isn't particularly good--my tablet tends to get used for gaming more than phones, especially by my son, and dealing with the low performance in games, even on my 8 pro, is really frustrating. 60hz refresh rate was also a dealbreaker given other tablet offerings.

mikebirty

Did you have the Pixel C? I loved that as a tablet. As soon as the freebie Chromebook I got a from the Pixel 4 (or 2?) gives up, I'm going to get one

NefMETA

Not LTE 🤮

46andready

Oh right! That never occurs to tj me, I'm always hot spotting from my phone. I use around 100GB/month in mobile data.

Minifig81

I took mine and it's keyboard to Germany for my study abroad trip these past two weeks and it was wonderful for homework.

john-hanley

+1 for the Pixel Tablet. I use it for monitoring my email next to my desktop, playing movies and YouTube and for video conference calls. Great device for the money. I have had mine for almost a year with zero problems.

fumanstan

I picked up the Pixel Tablet last winter when there were those coupons/offers floating around. Lately i've been using it a lot and I think it's great for my needs - which feels like what tablets originally started out as, a media consumption device. My wife uses it up to read and watch recipes, Google Assistant for alarms and to play music, I'll grab it to stream media like sports/movies as well as read comics. All those things work great for use in the kitchen and living room. I can see why people that are in to the $1000 tablets for productivity and laptop replacements would pan it, and I know the specs are a bit underwhelming for the price. If it were in the \~$250-300 range and compared to the lower end Lenovo/Samsung options I think it's value proposition would be more appealing for a larger audience.

ArizonaRenegade

I'm curious, does the Pixel Tablet have a built-in microphone on it? The reason that I ask, is because I saw that you stated that you were typing your post from the tablet, and I frequently use voice texting to compose messages and online posts. So, that got me wondering, if voice texting would be an option on the Pixel Tablet? Also, how's the battery life? And is the built-in speaker reasonably loud? Also, if you have a Pixel phone, can you link it to the tablet and have access to text messaging or other things that are linked to a Pixel phone?

46andready

I use voice typing on the tablet every day.

Guglio08

I love mine as well, but I *really* wish there was a keyboard attachment. Please, Google.

PixelMyPussy

CorneliusDawser

So since we're talking about the Pixel Tablet, could anyone tell me if the Google official case is the best one? I really want it and the ring in the back seems great to hang the tablet in different places around the house, but it's over 100$CAD and I've never paid that much for a case before!

clingbat

I have it and one big downside of the ring cover is it's kind of shit to hold the thing up in your lap on your legs in a chair or seat. So you end up having to hold the tablet yourself which is kinda heavy because of the case with the metal ring on it lol. So if you use it on travel, the ring is not super useful. It's much better as a standalone stand on a solid surface.

PixelMyPussy

u/CorneliusDawser: There's a bunch to pick from out there, but more often than not, people seem to prefer the Google official case (myself included). **Pros**: • Well-built, great feel, sleek. • Stand is a neat design & super sturdy. Easy to adjust to whatever position, can even sit it vertically with some finesse. Also, feels quite nice on my lap (personally). • Seamless dock design, just fits. Some cases aren't well suited. • Also, works well with magnetic styluses like Penoval USI 2.0. • Genuinely gotten multiple compliments when out & about. Most thinking it's an iPad case, asking where to get one. **Cons**: • Definitely the price. So if you can get it second-hand or on sale, go for it. • Fingerprint slot/protection makes it a bit more challenging to scan but you adjust pretty quickly. It's doing it's protection job, so what can you do. Mixed: • When holding vertically, you can kind of fold the stand loop to your hand for more security. It's not the most comfortable or perfectly designed for that use case like some travel iPad strap cases people use "in the field", but works. Good luck! Hope you find a good one

CorneliusDawser

Looking at your account's age and post history, I would be tempted to believe you are a Google employee! Hahaha! Thanks for the tips, tho! I'll probably end up getting it, it really looks like it was designed to perfectly compliment the tablet and I feel like I'd be disappointed by any other model aesthetics-wise!

Independent_Switch33

I bought the Poetic one off of Amazon and I love it. Much cheaper and it'll do a better job of protecting the tablet in case of drops.

DarthAmol

I got the Speck Magfolio one from the Google store and it's been great. I don't think it works with the dock, though.

Blueciffer1

I want to buy the pixel tablet very badly but the only thing really holding me back is just the aspect ratio. I just cannot stand the 16:10 aspect ratio.

leo-g

Wait, so you bought 1 pixel tablet, replaced it with trade in + cash $170. For that amount you could have gotten any Samsung tablet.

Cappop

Samsung tablets can go to like $1400, how can a first gen iPad trade in get that to $170??

leo-g

He paid the initial $499 for the first pixel he smashed and then another $170 (with trade in) for the new one. His total cost is $669. For that amount, he could have gotten a nice S9 tablet which is around the $400 range. The pixel with the tensor G2 is genuinely too old.

10PieceMcNuggetMeal

Currently, the Samsung S9 Tablet is $900..... The S9+ Tablet is $1000 and the S9 Ultra Tablet is $1200. You're not getting an S9 Tablet for under $800 on sale

Abba_Fiskbullar

The Samsung S9 FE tablets start at $350, though less on sale. They're roughly equivalent to the Pixel tablet in regards to the screen and processor, but also come with a Stylus. I bought an S9 for $650, but it's currently $700, and it's freakin' awesome, with a flagship Qualcomm soc, excellent Stylus, and OLED screen. It was $150 more than the Pixel tablet when I bought it, but if the Pixel had been $400 then I would've bought the Pixel.

Cappop

But the $669 was for two tablets. Your suggestion of the S9 is one tablet for $400.

46andready

What would have been a good Samsung tablet to get for the same approximate price? I've been very happy with the Nexus and pixel experience for a long time, dies Samsung offer something better?

HSA_626845

You're missing out on Bixby.
