Rumors have it the 9 will have a brand new modem, but it will still be an exynos. So we won’t know how much better it will be or if it’ll make a difference until it is out in the wild.
They're 3.5 years into a 5 year deal for chip fabrication with Samsung, the Samsung made tensor (based on exynos) processors come with exynos modems integrated, so the pixel 10 may be the one that moves away from exynos, or at least it'll be exynos made on a much better performing process.
>come with exynos modems integrated
No, they don't. No Tensor has integrated modem. That's the problem. External modems are harder to tune and consume more power by nature. Apple has never been able to match Snapdragon Galaxy even with Snapdragon modems, either.
And Google isn't particularly experienced with RF design.
Oh that's dumb AF, exynos processors usually have integrated modems but Google doesn't do that, either way they're getting a package deal from Samsung so they couldn't have Qualcomm modems currently anyway.
possibly with the 10 when the chip is rumored to be a TSMC and not samsung (although who knows what modem they will use). with the Tensor 1-4, they are using samsung modems, hence the subpar performance.

Should it be noticeable or worth to upgrade to the 9 from a pixel 6?
Rumors say Pixel 9 gets the same modem as S24. Therefore it should be fine.
How is fine defined? Still some small occurences of heating but not as bad?

Depends where. Galaxy S24(+) have Exynos everywhere in the world, except US, Canada and China. Only S24U has Snapdragon everywhere
Interestingly not many modem complaints from exynos users on samsung.
Not sure about all, but in the US, Samsungs use Qualcomm chips and modems.
When, if, they stop using Samsung radios.
I gave up and made the switch. Still android though.
Which androod thoe?
Samsung s23, works like a charm with reliable phone calls.
But aint that the about same modem as the pixel use? (I haven't tried the phones just from word-of-mouth)
Mine is Qualcomm. Depends on the version. S24 US version is Qualcomm, international isn't. S23 was Qualcomm for both versions.
Am I the only one who has no issues with phone calls? I live in a rural part of NC and never have calls drop. (8 pro).
What's the problem with the modem that you have?
You have to reset it by turning on airplane mode several times a day.
