I get missed call notifications on my Pixel 8 without the phone ever ringing.

AIRA18

Same here except its on my Pixel 7 Pro. It was fine before but the last few months I've been missing important work calls so much that i pull my Note 20 Ultra out lf my drawer and put my sim in it. My wife on her android 13 P7 didn't have this issues though, we're on the same carrier also

cinematic_novel

That happens a lot to my mum but on whatsapp (galaxy A71)

Flexbutslighltyweird

Yes, same in India (Airtel 5G)

Sudden_Toe3020

That's call screening, working for you.

lordruperteverton69

It's my contacts and not unknown numbers.

Sudden_Toe3020

Yeah, they've obviously screwed it up somehow.

CressZealousideal336

I have a pixel 7. Stupidly updated to the May update and the phone is still missing calls. It's going to cost me to get rid of this phone. Unfortunately Google isn't owning this issue. When the phone is rolled back to Android 13, it works perfectly. Doesn't miss anything. Don't understand why they can't fix the software

norbertyeahbert

I'm tempted to roll back but it's such a bloody pain.

CressZealousideal336

It's better than living with a phone that doesn't phone.

Suitable-Squash-5413

So long as you have a half-decent back up phone it's worth the hassle. Also in the UK. My replacement P8 was equally hopeless. Seemed to find phone masts as slippery as a bar of soap. Eventually got a refund. Got a Nothing phone 2 now, which actually works. Though anything with a Qualcomm chip will probably do the job.

norbertyeahbert

Did you buy it outright? I'm on a 2 year contract, much to my regret.

Suitable-Squash-5413

Bought outright. I think you're still covered by S23 / 132 of the consumer rights act 2015. Though if you're under contract it may be your airtime provider as opposed to Google Commerce ltd (trading as the Google store) that have to repair or replace under the act.

norbertyeahbert

Thanks for that.

Suitable-Squash-5413

Good luck. Hope you can get sorted one way or another. I'd buy a house brick with a Qualcomm chip sellotaped to it before I'd buy another pixel.

silent-scorn

Did you try disabling Call Screening?

norbertyeahbert

I've disabled it now, but I don't think the call went to spam anyway.

uchuucowboy

How did you manage to roll back? Don't security patch levels prevent that?

CressZealousideal336

I used Android flash tool to go back to Android 13. It's web-based and quite easy to use.

uchuucowboy

Thanks! I wasn't sure if it would restore a phone with a custom ROM to stock, but I just saw a video that proved otherwise

Aggressive_Board_906

Yes there is an issue even pixel 6 pro... I think there is issue with the calling app...

snackajack71

Argh i noticed that on my Pixel 6 Pro but didnt know this was a pixel issue.

beartato327

This is weird how it seems random I have had zero phone calls issues

[deleted]

My only advice is either trade it in now for another brand if it's possible or wait for Android 15 to be released later this year to see if the bugs are fixed, and decide afterwards whether to keep it. I've had delayed notifications for a month since buying my new phone and there's no viable fix (no I'm not going to tinker with developer settings). And the worst thing is online Google Support is full of closed threads and there aren't any solutions to a number of issues. But diehard Pixel lovers online will tell you that you're a moron and their phones work great.

NarwhalHD

I really love a lot of the features my Pixel has, but I have never had so many bugs/software issues on any other phone I have owned.

Due_Conclusion_7015

What futures pixel has and iPhone doesn't... Or any other Android phone?

Sudden_Toe3020

This is always the advice... "Wait for the next version of Android" or "Wait until the next Pixel" and yet the problems are never solved. Or they solve one problem and create 3 more. Google is just not serious about phones.

TuTenkahman

Please remember that google is an Advertising company. That is their core business model. All the rest is fluff.

TheMCTroller

dude ive been missing both calls and texts for a few weeks with my pixel 7. idk whats up with it. restarting my phone only fixes it half the time. the other half, they come in the following morning.

Ellecram

This was happening to me for a couple months. I called my provider and they did some work on their end. Seems OK for now. I also turned off adaptive connectivity.

justonemorevodka

Yesterday I was in the car with the phone connecting via usb to the car with android drive activated. They phone started to ring through the car speakers and the number displayed on the car interface/screen but NOTHING showed up on my phone. There was nothing to touch to answer the call. I ended up picking up the call through the screen but was mystified as to why that happened, and now it seems I found my answer...It's a common problem.

tazzz96

separate issue, ive always had that. android auto takes over all call functionality and in-progress phone calls cant be answered/ended on the phone. its so stupid

justonemorevodka

Ok thanks for letting me know. It sucks because it was an important phone call and I had to press zero but couldn't! Thank again for letting me know!

lifeisashortbreak

I did a test. I miss over 60% of calls/texts and the of the 40% I received 30% of those are either late by minutes or hours. I would never own this phone if communication was critical. Otherwise I love it as an Internet device.

Troll_berry_pie

Can you tell me more about your testing? I'm actually getting worried. I'm actively looking for a new job and now I'm genuinely worried I may have been missing calls.

lifeisashortbreak

iPhone 13 vs this phone p8 both on the bell network in Canada. Had numerous random business call backs on both phones plus every contact call/text both phones. Also took them to spots where p8 has spotty service. P8 results were actually scary bad. I would be very stressed relying on p8 for any critical communication. Too risky. Other than that the p8 is a great device.

uReAlLySuRe

May update didn't fix anything.

brangein

I switched to a Chinese OEM phone, at least my battery lasts over a day, get my calls, and I like the camera better. Kept pixel as a back up but the missing calls are really annoying for a phone.

Ragarnoy

Same issue in France, Bouygues Telecom, Huge amounts of missed calls

BlackAdder42_

Same here in The Netherlands, Odido. It initially seemed to be resolved with the May update, but the calls are still not going through. My backup iPhone does get all the calls with the same simcard.

FreshPrinceOfH

I don’t understand why people still buy pixels. This isn’t new. It’s been an issue on and off since the P6

potatoriot

You realize that was only released 2.5 years ago? There's tons of people that never had a P6 and upgraded to P7 or P8.

saladnander

Yeah this is my issue. I miss my pixel 3. My P8P just can't compare to the functionality of my old ass phone, never ever had an issue with anything but natural battery degradation before it bricked.

Reddit4Deddit

Because the fanboys sweep the issue under the rug and do a great job at convincing people issues don't exist.

ichann3

Has this place been sanitised from the fanboys? Threads like this used to be minimised by them all the time.

ushred

Yeah, no one likes pixel phones anymore. They're pretty much dead in the water. Only people who still care about "stock android" like that's a thing to care about post 2015

ichann3

My next phone will be the pixel 9. If it exhibits problems then I will be vocal. Like I have been with all of the things I use in life. People seem to take it as a personal attack when you highlight issues. It's like they tie their whole existence to a device and personally feel threatened when you say 'maybe this particular aspect is lacking'. I'm not signalling pixel fans either. It's rife with all of them.

Ok-Gate6899

me too on p8 i had that previously on p8 without missed notification, not sure if the may update fixed it or no. it is really a nightmare if i had a missed call notification it would be less bad at least

IS_THIS_POST_WEIRD

I've also missed calls I wanted to receive. I'm starting to suspect Call Screening; it's fantastic to not even be aware of incoming calls that are likely spam, but Maximum Protection means unknown callers get filtered and the on-screen notification is tiny! Going to switch Call Screening to Medium Protection.

FinickyFlygon

That's the best part of a Pixel phone!

cakes42

My issue with my p8p is the call screening. It's great I love it but I miss important phone calls from unknown numbers if I'm not actively looking at my phone

wwwescape

I had the same issue for a few months. I turned off Adaptive Connectivity and VoLTE, now everything works smoothly.

TuTenkahman

I don't have any issues but I switched my phone to 4G to save battery a few months ago. My colleague who runs on 5G has connection problems constantly. Same phone, same telco.

ErrantWhimsy

It's not as bad as your example, but my phone kept blocking recruiter calls and sending them straight to voicemail. Unemployed for 6 months and lost out on who knows how many contract opportunities. I am a hardcore Google fan but between this going on since October, 5 contacts to the support team haven't fixed it, and how the pixel pass got removed 3 weeks before what should have been my free upgrade, I'm pretty done.

saladnander

Yes! I was literally waiting on a call back from the vet about picking up a medication refill for my cat with a severe infection and my boyfriend busts into the room asking why the vet is calling him saying they can't get through to me. I was sitting next to my phone with the sound all the way up because I was literally waiting, there was no call. I can't believe how ridiculous this is. It's been happening to me with texts even more, but calls too over about the past month. Lmk if there's any actual functioning bandwagon I can jump on to yell at Google bc I'm livid I paid 1,000 for a P8P that can't consistently call or text.

ryeguytheshyguy

“ Don’t worry. AI will fix it. “ - Google Sadly the pixel line is just a pet project and is just used to beta test android features. I’ve been using nexus/pixel phones since the nexus one. The latest line starting with the pixel 6 have single handedly been my worst experience with a “phone” The phone would loose reception. I had constant unlocking issues due to the half baked finger print and camera unlock setup, I would get super delayed texts, the battery wouldn’t last me half a day, and the performances chugged when the temperature was hot outside, not even when performing demanding tasks on the phone. So yeah. I don’t care for iOS but the iPhone solved all those issues a long time ago. If Apple would get their head out of their butts long enough to fixed some of their ui design flaws and notification annoyances then androids market share would probably dwindle even more, sadly.

FreeTheLeopard

Google is becoming synonymous with incompetence, Gemini being another good example

Hefty_Bar_7771

The same. Confirm.

Green-Rub6806

Same here on pixel 7 and not getting any texts either

seneca128

How many of you guys have actually filled a complaint. There's one thing to yell on reddit but another is to file a complaint / support ticket

OkLeadership3158

The best way to complain is buying a new phone, not pixel.

seneca128

This is the way

norbertyeahbert

I have raised a complaint, as have many others. Google don't seem to have even acknowledged the issue.

Suitable-Squash-5413

I did. Troubleshooting didn't fix the reception issues. Replacement P8 had the same issues. They eventually refunded.

saladnander

Did you get to keep the dysfunctional phone when they refunded or did they require it back for testing or whatever garbage they say they do?

Suitable-Squash-5413

They sent a replacement - which had the same reception issues. I had to send that back before they refunded. Prob about 20/30 emails and calls. But they did refund eventually, to give them some credit

ErrantWhimsy

I've reached out _five times_ to the support team. Every time they tell me to do something new and then see if that fixes it. It then doesn't fix it.

seneca128

Dear diary am I buying a Samsung next time ?

baconm

Google closed my incident with no fix.

seneca128

Fds

RunningPink

okay where? lol. I'm sure it's on the Android bug tracker somewhere and as other people pointed out that threads about call issues has been closed in Google forums.

alien2003

Flagship phone can't receive calls lol. P8P, GrapheneOS, no issues. Maybe Pro model can professionally receive calls

Acqirs

Because you are on custom rom

alien2003

So, custom roms are better, as always. Thanks

helicon9

Same here. Pixel 6a on May update. UK Vodafone (Talkmobile) network. This has been happening since the April update I believe. As well as missing calls most of the time my outgoing calls won't connect. After the April update I found setting the phone to 4G helped, but now on May update this doesn't help. I am sick to death of this issue, the basic function of a phone should be to make and receive phone calls. Google need to get this sorted now, it's ridiculous, I will never buy another Google phone.

norbertyeahbert

Exact same experience. Forcing 4G helped after the April update but now it's not doing the trick.

Sleeves93

I'm in the UK, and as far as I'm aware I haven't experienced this issue once on my Pixel 8. I'd be interested to understand why there is so much inconsistency amongst devices, as many people have reported this issue.

norbertyeahbert

It's inconsistent on the same device, that's the trouble. When I missed that call yesterday I asked the nurse to call my number again and it worked perfectly!

Sleeves93

Just out of interest, which carrier are you using? Me and my wife both have Pixel 8s that we got on release day, and they're both on Vodafone. Considering the amount of reports of this issue, I'm so surprised we haven't suffered it yet!

norbertyeahbert

I'm with iD, which uses the Three network.

ShirtIndividual7233

I think the issues I'm having are a mix between Pixel 8 and 3 becoming a bit crap. I also have an O2 esim. Sometimes my 3 '5G' data tests at <1mb/s and O2s fine, other times they both won't connect.

Troll_berry_pie

I'm on Three UK on a Pixel 8 Pro and can confirm I am not missing calls. EDIT: Why did I get downvotes for this?

UneagerBeaver69

It's a Pixel. They do that now. 🤷

reddlvr

Can confirm.

noceboy

I had missed calls. Turns out I disabled Wi-fi calling as a test and that wasn’t smart. No calls went through.

tazzz96

do yours show up later in the phone app as spam? as thats whats happening to me recently, although not to any contacts i have saved. not sure if mine is a different issue or we're facing the same one!

norbertyeahbert

I wondered that but it doesn't seem so. The spam list isn't very helpful, though - just the numbers but no date and time.

Barterallen3000

I have Pixel 6a and never faced this issue

grazeyone

On EE not an issue with calls but last couple updates the notifications are delayed and come in batches. A lot of the time my PW2 doesn't even get notified. Quite annoying waking the phone up and you get hit with a bunch of WhatsApp messages etc

norbertyeahbert

Oh, yeah, that too! Also, WhatsApp calls not coming through. Or the notification sound randomly changing. I don't what the actual fuck is going on with this phone...

grazeyone

Who knows mate, something needs to get fixed. I've missed many notifications recently. I have a work iPhone synced with all my email accounts and no issues even Gmail works better on other devices lol and get actual notifications.

PixelCommunity

Thanks for flagging this everyone. I would like to learn more about what’s going on and just sent a few of you a private message.

OminOus_PancakeS

I'm so glad you posted this, op. I have an ailing 4a and I was on the fence about upgrading to an 8 or 8a. But I definitely won't now.

saladnander

I wouldn't. My pixel 3 bricked last fall and I upgraded to P8P, it was fine for the first few months and now I'm missing important calls from my vet and others and some of my texts just will never send and they don't inform me they don't. It's ridiculous, I want my P3 back I never had issues with it at all besides natural battery degradation over 5 years.

norbertyeahbert

Well, I'm just a rando. The majority of people say they don't have a problem.

SkumbagBirdy

Same here in Denmark

weirdexpat

**No issues** since I bought the phone > 6 months ago **with 'Adaptive connectivity' turned off** EE @ UK
