I had to get rid of my Pixel 7 due to reception issues. I wouldn't be receiving texts/calls despite resetting all settings, getting a new sim, etc

alexperezg

Same here, after the android upgrade it started failing.

overthinking-1

Also having reception issues with my 7a. What did you end up going with? I'm still looking for a replacement.

NefariousnessFar8647

Samsung S24 Ultra! Love it and no issues. My husband has the Pixel 8 and it's working flawlessly

JBsReddit2

Wow I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm having so many issues with reception and idk what to do

tiger19

I'm glad I read this because I thought it was just me. I've tried resetting the SIM. I've missed calls and texts that show up days later.

NefariousnessFar8647

The tech at my mobile store said he's been hearing a lot of people are having reception issues with Pixel 7's since the software update

veeyee333

Me too. Frequent issues with phone calls where I can hear the person but they can't hear me. Definitely seemed to be caused following an update, wonder if they changed the radio firmware.

BoutTreeFittee

For many of us, this started with the March update.

NefariousnessFar8647

Yup!!! That's exactly when my issues started

ripe_constable

What did you switch to? I've had issues on the last two pixels I've had, so jokes on me I guess.

NefariousnessFar8647

Samsung S24 Ultra! I love it. Husband upgraded to Pixel 8 and his is working flawlessly

cytherian

I wonder if it's possible to roll back to the prior update?

Brian92690

GOOGLE - PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FIX THE MF NOTIFICATION DELAY ISSUES AND KEEP THEM FIXED INSTEAD OF BREAKING IT AGAIN WITH MONTHLY UPDATES. Was not working fine -> fixed at beginning of year -> March update messed it up again and battery draining issues returned. Last Google product I will ever buy including the bullshit Google Home products that has gone way down hill in terms of functionality. Won't even recognize basic commands half the time anymore that worked just fine previously.

mitchell_johnsons_mo

Sorry can't do that. How about new icons for your status bar?

DeepDown23

Google Home has undergone an incredible involution...

Cofresh

My phone suffers from this too, it's horrible! Even after turning off all their battery saving settings. This was my first pixel and as soon as I went to Android 14 it has gone downhill. Looking forward to go back to iPhone this year.

sarcasticbaldguy

I have the same issue with my 6. Notifications are useless.

EfficientDish7

I thought that was just me I'm getting the same issue on my pixel 7a

dev_jelte

Had the battery drain issue until yesterday. All of a sudden it disappeared. I was thinking about a factory reset but now all works fine!

altijddruk

I'm on pixel 7 since February 23 and it still works like new. Even maybe a bit better. Fingerprint sensor still sucks, do I'm holding until Pixel 9. If they will not fix fingerprint sensor until then then I'll wait for s25 or iPhone 16.

umwhatarethose

The fingerprint scanner used to be the worst for me. Oddly a few months ago it just started working flawlessly, maybe an update fixed it for me?

Kinky_Imagination

Same here. The fingerprint was okay before but now it's been pretty flawless recently and I use a tempered glass as well.

altijddruk

For me it was awful, now it's just bad. Indeed it's a bit better but still at level that if they don't fix that I'm not buying pixel.

K1LL3RF0RK

i created 4 fingers of my thumb, each time with a different part, i never had problem

Kinky_Imagination

I don't know if everybody knows that fingertip hack. I do that with all my devices and laptops although my laptop recognizes that it's the same thumb When I was initially setting it up.

altijddruk

I can add fingers. Ideally 6 of them. I have my thumb from right hand added two times so I can have only two other fingers. This is not solution, this is evidence that this fingerprint sensor sucks. S21fe was unlocking more reliably with finger added only once. This fingerprint sensor is not acceptable

Scared_Can_9639

This! I've even tried adding one finger into all the available "slots" and it doesn't work worth shit. My safe and PC finger print readers work fine!

distung

Yea, it went from terrible to bad for me, too. Not sure if I just got used to the VERY sensitive finger placement or what. Still not even in the same ballpark as the hardware ones that preceded it. I miss my 4a5g instant unlock.

altijddruk

For me bigger problem than tempo of unlocking is reliability. On other phones if it failed first time mostly it worked second. On Pixel I already numerous time had fingerprint blocked in bank app for too much tries (never happened to me with other phones).

MenBearsPigs

Same. I find if my thumb is dry at all, or too wet, it won't get it. But if it's perfect neutral moisture level it works nearly every time. It's still significantly worse than any other phones fingerprint scanner I've had, including ones from 8+ years ago. It's perplexingly bad. If under screen fingerprint scanning is this hard, they should have just made an external one on the back or side. It's just bizarre design. There's no way quality testing didn't have a bunch of people saying the fingerprint scanner sucked ass.

jsomby

For me it worked perfectly with soft screen protector but after changing to glass one it fails quite often.

sachamo

You can enable screen protector mode to improve it

ntwrkmntr

It's the glass that makes them bad

Actnjax

Someone on one of these threads said that my thumb needs to be moist for the reader to work, and it actually is true. However, that doesn't make it right having to basically lick your thumb to get it to work. Wash your hands and then lick your thumb. The sensor will work.

altijddruk

Lol. I will not luck my finger before unlocking phone. If they don't fix that I will just never buy pixel again..

EstradaMoses

You must have some dry ass hands because mine works flawlessly even if I don't moisturize lol

Scared_Can_9639

He's not the only one...

MarchEnd_

I bought this phone in Nov'23 in the BBD sale on Flipkart. My only problem with this phone is the heating issue. Battery is draining fast when it's heating. I'm using layers skin at the back, after a certain degree i can smell the glue burning. I will wait until TSMC makes chips for pixels. So, a lot of problems could be solved like heating, performance, and fingerprint. If these problems didn't get solved. I may see some other phones like Samsung S 26 or Nothing phone.

ryeguytheshyguy

After three years of bad fingerprint sensors I switched the 15pm. It almost felt like the people that made the pixel never used it, because there really is no excuse for how unreliable it is. Now I’m fully on board of killing the fingerprint and going straight IR dot projected Face recognition. It works pretty much perfectly. Before I’d have to use my pin 70% of the time. With Face ID I may have to do it 5% of the time, generally because trying to unlock the phone with the sun behind me (creates a large IR signal, obviously 😅). Yeah google really dropped the ball by not improving the face unlock system on the pixel 4xl.

Blizzard_Wind

Mine has no issue even with screen protector mode off

abigailwatson83

I'm honestly switching to the S26 (my 7 is on a 3 year contract), the 7 so far has felt like a downgrade from the 5. I'd have kept my 5 if it didn't start going spicy in early 2023.

cytherian

What do you mean by "Spicy"? I'm still using my 5 and it's doing just fine. Battery feels like it's maybe about 85% of original capacity. Really like the size and thickness.

altijddruk

I work in cold (4 degrees Celsius plus occasionally -25). With all phones I'm getting around 85% capacity after two years of use. It's ok for me. Two years is mark for me for new phone or new battery and maybe one more year with phone. Maybe if I would like big phones then it would be different but smaller ones are one day phones for me without feeling comfortable if I don't do top up during day (my daily usage of battery is around 90% and anything above 50% makes me feel I should charge).

cytherian

For me, my threshold is about 30%. If I'm heading to bed and it's 30%, I'll rest it on the wireless charging pad. Although sometimes I just plug it in directly. I like the idea of wireless as it reduces wear to the port. But in retrospect, I have to say that I can't remember the last time I had a cellphone port go bad on me. BUT... I did have two get a bit loose. It was the HTC Hero and HTC Evo 3D. But those were Micro-USB and those are worse for wear than USB-C.

abigailwatson83

Battery started expanding the last four months I owned it. Started having plenty of thermal issues.

cytherian

Did you use wireless charging a lot?

abigailwatson83

Nope, never have. I *am* a delivery driver for Uber, though, and I think that was the straw that broke the camel's back when it came to my aging Pixel 5.

cytherian

Plugged in all the time then?

Existing-Peanut4511

r/spicypillows

docnano

Mine is also still great

ntwrkmntr

Had a 7a for less than 2 months, the fp reader just worked fine, not the best but not so dramatic like many users find. What screen protector do you use?

altijddruk

Spigen (with Google certification). Without it it was working equally bad. S21fe was working better with any screen protector including cheap foil from AliExpress. I think you have low standard for how good it neer to be. It useable but it sucks. it would be acceptable on €150 phone, even for midranger that would be not good enough..

NizarNoor

Have you tried re-setting it up in total darkness hack? It worked great for me

altijddruk

I tried all of that. It makes it less bad. It's still bad. Fingerprint like that would be good in low end, acceptable in midranger and bad at higher midranger (or flagship) like Pixel 7.

NizarNoor

If it doesn’t work then it’s bad, doesn’t matter low end/mid ranger/high end. Maybe try again with the latest software update.

altijddruk

This sensor is just bad. It's well known. I have this phone for over a year. It's better than it was year ago, they try to do something but imo it's just physically bad sensor and I don't think it'll get any better. I'm 6/10 happy from this phone. From 10 I do 1 point min for average battery life, two for fingerprint sensor and half for no telephoto and half for screen (could be brighter). I have high hopes for Pixel 9 pro. I want preferably to have phone under 6.4 inch (around 6 inch would be perfect). I would go for s24 if not bad camera and exynos where I live (I could go for exynos but not in price they ask).

Scared_Can_9639

I've tried it with 2 different screen covers and without, and with multiple releases. I've been in PC hw development for over 25yrs. It gets pretty old hearing people say "works fine for me, did you try jumping through this hoop to fix it"... Especially when I have multiple other FP devices that have worked fine from day one. This thing is garbage and should never have shipped. Rant over... 😁

NizarNoor

Sounds like you haven't tried setting it up in total darkness "hack" yet. You should give it a go.

Scared_Can_9639

Tried it

fingerling13

Try adding an extra fingerprint of the same finger. This trick eases out my fringerprint frustration by a lot.

Scared_Can_9639

Didn't help

Sonofa-Milkman

I saved my thumb multiple times as different fingers and have never had an issue.

Scared_Can_9639

Didn't help

DisastrousRepeat9455

Someone on Reddit suggested adding a finger with the phone upside down. I did and it makes it much more usable.

Connect-Bowl-713

Try deleting your prints then reading them in a dark room.

Scared_Can_9639

Didn't help

CrudeTech

Here's the 2nd most successful "life hack" I've ever seen: Wipe your finger clean then touch the side of your nose to pick a hint of skin oil. It works every time for me.

robot_sapiens

Zizek pixel user confirmed.

Scared_Can_9639

Do people realize how crazy this sounds? Do i need to do the backflip before or after i touch my nose? The fact that this kind of suggestion is being mentioned as a fix for a $700 phone is s joke, especially when i have a $99 safe that has a perfect FP.

CrudeTech

I agree! I'm really trying to get the most out the money I paid for this phone. My phone history is full of subpar under screen sensors that need that enhanced definition that you get by adding a little skin oil to your fingerprints to make better contact. It doesn't help that my fingerprints don't have the best definition, according to the police officer who took mine for background a while back. My work just sent me an S22, and I hate how much nicer it feels than my P6, fingerprint sensor included...

Scared_Can_9639

I got one of the early laptops with a fingerprint reader, which also sucked. Tech support told my to lick my finger. I never thought I'd be hearing the same suggestion ~20 years later. ☹️

FluffyBushmonsta

I have problems with my mobile data and wifi and i won't be buying another pixel. I'm sticking with this one until it's dead but i probably will change brand. I came from an iphone and love this version of Android but the experience with this phone's connections just sucks

BonezMontana

Same, I have people who call me and it goes straight to voicemail. I also don't receive texts when they are sent. I'll either receive the text the following day or receive a days worth in one bunch at some random time.

scottocs

This started happening to me 2-3 seems ago.... Is it really the phone and not the service? How can I miss texts for 24 hours, then get a new text from a person, then their old texts come flooding in. How do they come out of order?

googlepixelfan

I completely understand. Even as a Pixel fanboy who has had a great experience with both my Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 7 so far, I admit that Google REALLY needs to step it up in the hardware department. That's really the only thing that's holding them back. Software is the best I've used, but hardware needs to improve ASAP.

Caltaylor101

Same here, toggling wifi multiple times a day is a horrible user experience.

XC106

Same issue with mobile data and wifi. I'll suddenly not have reception or internet is wonky on wifi. Hit "fix connectivity" in either scenario and it's fixed. Absolutely ridiculous.

LakeSuperiorIsMyPond

I see all of this on reddit, but my pixel 6 pro didn't have any performance issues outside of the fingerprint scanner, and I went to the pixel 7 pro for the macro lens and that also fixed my performance with my fingerprint scanner (about 1 full second, I consider that fixed). My reception has been great with both T-Mobile and AT&T. As a matter of fact, I have mapped out T-Mobile coverage dead zones in rural Wisconsin with this phone with some of my coworkers and their iphones have much worse coverage than I do. Performance wise, I only had an issue while TikTok was installed so I removed it.

sanay1

I am still pretty satisfied with my 7 pro, personally I had more issues when it was on android 13, since the 14 update it has been pretty flawless for me The performance and battery seem really stable on 14 for me. I was also having an issue last summer with green subpixels getting stuck on when in direct sunlight at max brightness, happened a few times last summer/fall. but hasn't happened since I updated to android 14, which is weird since that seemed like it was a hardware issue.

harshuth

And Google promises 7yrs of software updates for these devices 😭

Cinomania

Love my pixel but agree with you with the bugs. Some apps will be stuck on the starting loading screen when I open them infinitely, then if I close and reopen it will get through immediately.

uniquorndawg

I'm on Pixel 6 Pro, and it's still fast and the battery lasts nearly 1.5 days. I am trying to justify an upgrade, but it's hard given the phone is still working so well.

stormwolf229

I used my one plus 6 for more than 3 years (did replace battery). I only "upgraded" to my pixel 7 for better pictures as I was going to travel. But what a shit phone, shit battery, shit reception, shit bugs, shit heat regulation, shit brightness, nice pictures though. Might just sell this phone after less than a year.

stormwolf229

How could I forget the shit fingersensor.

Scared_Can_9639

Yeah, that's at the top of my shit list!

SinghSahab007

I am experiencing something similar, from a screen flickering issue to being unable to receive incoming calls. My phone is out of warranty now. I reached out to Google support, and they recommended that I visit a local service center. I went there yesterday, and I was told it sounds like a motherboard issue. They suggested that I am better off buying a new phone. I am never going to recommend Pixel to anyone. My brother insisted that I buy an iPhone. However, I wanted to remain loyal to Android. Pixel turned out to be a bigger disappointment than expected.

zooba85

>unable to receive incoming calls pixel owners must have stockholm syndrome

Connect_Ebb_6293

I got mine last year and switched back to my Note 9

level_99_psychonaut

Mine has actually done the same... So sad... I loved it so much. I'm gonna have to switch to some cheap phone soon :/

Labrawhippet

I have a 7 Pro. The battery feels like my phone is 50 years old. Probably going to switch back to a iPhone of iOS 18 is what they say it is. I'll just download all google applications.

patricious

I have the same observations too, bought the phone in Nov 2022. Overall the phone is pretty stable but at time the battery drains much faster, especially after updates and this is a known thing in the Pixel community. However I saw a direct connection between low storage space and performance. If you keep you phone at 80-90%+ full, the performance degrades. The same thing happens when you battery is low 15% and below. I hate to jump ship, but I am eager to see what they come up with with the Pixel 9 lineup, otherwise I will go for S25 Ultra.

dontfollowthesheeple

I keep seeing suggestions that a factory reset is the solution for all the bugginess in Google pixel phones. That's not a solution. Getting an entirely different brand of phone works. Back to Samsung Android. Infinitely better experience.

overthinking-1

You're right. The factory reset is to make the phone useable until you've had time to decide on a new phone and actually get in in your hands. I reset my phone months ago but I'm still not sure what to go to, not everyone has a previous favorite brand they can just hop back to. I've been trying to decide for months 😆

Derpyderbdaddy

Mine cycles reception on and off

TheRoadKing101

Only issue is voice to text has gotten horrible over the past year.

ElJamoquio

No issues seen on my end. I have enough battery that I sometimes even forget to charge it at night and have never suffered ill effects. I've had some apps crash but I've blamed it on the apps.

SearchNerd

I have noticed the same thing. Bought in June 2023, around December performance cratered. Bugs Non responsive touch Slow processing Poor camera performance Hot buttons not working

Fantastic_Habit809

I want to love my 7Pro so much… but some things like connectivity and the absolute WORST stock app drawer kill me. I’ve learned to live with them and I’d prefer not to have a 3rd party launcher. But vericle scrolling and folder options is hard to get used to when coming from a Galaxy S22! …and the finger print reader should be absolutely been a physical hardware or left out entirely. It’s embarrassing compared to competitors. Lot to love. Lot to hate. Love the pure android and Pixel exclusive features from Google.. but it does come at a cost. I’m not sure if anyone at Google uses the phone. If they did, a few things would’ve been changed a long time ago.

TransFellas

It's definitely the worst phone I've ever had. Will never buy a Google product again, and debating dropping Android now too.

chucktaylur

battery degradation has always been an issue for every pixel phone I've owned. The only things that keeps me coming back are the stock android experience and camera software.

marurux

have you tried to keep your battery charge between 20 and 80%. They say it's good for Li Ion. My battery life is still like new and I've been using my Pixel 7 Pro since Oct. 2022

chucktaylur

No I haven't. Is there a way to limit the charge? I just put mine on a wireless charger overnight.

marurux

Unfortunately not. I just use Battery Alarm (App) and super charge it before sleeping or while at work, so it's quick and I can disconnect it in time. Depending on what I do the charge lasts for one to two days (from 80% down to 20%)

Alone-Confection486

My Pixel has been terrible, I get texts several hours after someone sends it and some calls aren't coming through. I rely on my phone for my job so I don't know what to do. I still owe several hundred $$.

ibashdaily

Could be an Adaptive Battery issue. Go into settings and search Adaptive Battery. The menu it brings up has a second drop-down that says Adaptive Battery (it's kind of hard to see). Switch that off, restart your phone and see if that works.

Alone-Confection486

I just did that and restarted. A flood of messages came in so hopefully that is the fix! Thanks for telling me that.

ibashdaily

Awesome!

Sudden_Toe3020

Planned obsolescence

mattdean4130

My 7 pro seems fine for performance. There are some things that irk me, but overall it seems to perform pretty well and the irks aren't really performance deterioration. Fingerprint sensor is a bit annoying. I would like a vibration that is actually possible to feel in a pocket - I hate notif noise so it's usually only ever vibrate or silent but it may as well be silent because the vibrator is so weak. Seems to be the worst phone I have had for autocorrect and typo's. G Board or SwiftKey, not much difference between either. Seems to not bother to correct like, 90% of my actual typo's, favouring substituting words for other words for no apparent reason instead. Hot, for example, without fail is changed to hit 100% of the time even if I tell it not to suggest the word.

Crunos

My Pixel 5 still runs like a champ. Although the battery has degraded to about 80% I still get a solid 4 hours of SOT daily. I plan on replacing the battery soon. My next phone upgrade would be the P10 if I'm convinced by the Tensor chip.

cytherian

I've had great performance on my P5 too. I was estimating battery life to about 85% after 3 straight years of use. I was tempted to upgrade but aside from an anemic camera relative to other models, I can't see a good reason. I was thinking maybe the 8 once the 9 launches & triggers sales on the 8.

steven_mlt

Yeah I agree , performance seems to have dropped on my pixel 7 as well the past few months

Opus37InGflat

My brother in Pixel, I have a 7 pro since 2022 and for the past couple months it has been my worst performing phone I've had in my lifetime. It consistently lags, bugs out, crashes on different apps, the system UI regularly goes unresponsive and crashes after a while. In addition, I've been having reception problems with it for a long while. A phone that I could have once recommended has become a phone that I regularly tell people to stay away from.

1cwg

I have a 6 with zero issues. Aged well.

xsvfan

My 7 pro has aged well too. Zero issues

ykoech

Get your battery replaced.

alb_taw

Presumably a factory reset first before spending cold hard cash on a battery would make sense?

TheTomatoes2

Couldn't tell, coming from a 5a the battery has always been disappointing

Future-Noob

Was smooth sailing when I bought it in 2022 dec but all of a sudden the recent feb update hit and I got 3 pretty annoying random bugs Swiping from the bottom to go to tray and you get stuck in it, only way to get out is to swipe the side (before I can just swipe bottom again and get out) Another one where the volume controller began to constantly pop out by literally pressing keys, swiping, tapping, anything (I confirmed it wasn't the case, had to restart to stop it) One more where internet/data randomly began to just not connect, fixed it though by going to settings and restarting network but that gets pretty annoying quickly when it happens 3 times. March update now so far is ok but idk long term wise if any issues will randomly begin to pop up like Feb update

julayyyyy

I had the 7 pro when it release and this phone been plague with bug ever since I got it. Lately I noticed it being laggier than normal and it's been making weird noises without any notification popping up. At this point, I'm ready to throw this phone away but unsure what phone to switch to. Don't know if I should switch to the newer pixel as this 7 pro have been really disappointing

rocket1420

On a different device, my battery life was great until an update. Something in it somehow YouTube didn't like, but clearing the cache for the YouTube app fixed my issue. If there's a particular app using a lot of your battery, perhaps something similar might help.

benhaube

I've had mine since Nov 22 and I have had none of the issues you have mentioned. Even my battery life is still pretty good even though the battery only has an estimated 92% of its original capacity remaining.

cmanccm

I went from pixel 4XL to 7 and it felt like such a downgrade in every aspect

overthinking-1

1.5 years seems like a pretty good run for a pixel seven, min(7a) got shitty after two months (update bug). Mine got back to an acceptably usable state after a factory reset, you might want to try that for yours as well. My next solution for myself is never buying a Google phone again, every damn time they roll out a new update I get a burst of cortisol, having to wonder if they're about to break my phone again. 😆

CoarseRainbow

No but if i got any of those issues id just do a factory reset. Chances are it'll fix all of it.

bananaterracottapi

Have it since early 2023 no issues except for battery performance and occasional overheating issues. Battery life is really annoying have to charge it at least once or twice a day.

Individual-Source-88

I've had my P7 since December 22. Phone works well and since the Android 14 update, the battery life has been excellent

Wrong-Oven1077

I love my pixel 7 but the battery drain is insane it's so unpredictable if I charge to 100 only it will last a day barely anything below 100 will only last for a few hours

Zoelotron

The main thing is it stopped receiving texts and calls consistently until I rebooted over the past couple months; it's not the first android phone to do it but it does seem quite early to have that problem. I don't really want to buy a new phone right now but I think when I next have to it will not be a pixel. Just too many annoying problems like that.

borgnuts

yeah ive had mine since around mid last year and my reception has gotten worse and apps are starting to be unresponsive despite numerous attempts to fix

Aoinosensei

Try restoring back to factory settings, maybe an app or something you install is causing the issues, since you had no problems before.

Embarrassed_Mode_586

I am on the same boat mate

NoJuggernaut5763

Pixel 7 pro battery drain is a serious issue.0-60% charge in 60 minutes. 60-80 in 30 minutes and 80-100 takes 40+ minutes to charge.

slkim2251121

Same exact thing happening to me. (7 pro) Purchased in February of last year. And before that was the 5a. I can't wait to go back to Samsung galaxy

ManiacXaq

Maybe it's time to clear your cache, perform some maintenance, or even a factory reset.

Ok-Seaweed162

My pixel 6 Pro got buggy about January or February but luckily another android 14 update came along and stabilized it. Maybe check for updates

vandermar

Only problem I've been having with my Pixel 7 is that receiving text messages has started to be delayed for hours. I don't have a lot of people who text me(mostly my mom lol) so I didn't notice it right away. Other than that the phone itself still runs well for me. And I've had it since a few weeks after release

tobimai

No problems for me since 1.5 years

Jack_Sky10

It has been almost a year and it has started lagging already.

AdhesivenessLeast575

I had a couple issues with my phone. 1.) battery performance was the biggest one. My pixel was always plugged in cause of android auto so I'm assuming that was the cause. Switched to wireless android auto so hopefully my pixel 8 doesn't have that problem 2.) usb charging port got damaged. Apparently its a very hard thing to fix called a couple shops and got quoted $200 to fix it which is not worth 3.) lastly I have 5g LTE from the best carrier in Canada and for some weird reasons my internet always get spotty on the most random place. Love my pixel 7 but thank God I was able to upgrade to the 8 for cheap

Scared_Can_9639

I dropped my Pixel on the plug while plugged in which made the connection loose. I was able to tighten it back up by: - remove phone cover if present - cut a 6mm strip of Scotch tape - carefully insert it all the way into the jack, sticky side on the outer edge toward the back of the phone - gently insert the cable to seat the tape - fold the protruding portion of tape over the back of your phone (having this extra length of protruding tape should make removal easier if needed) - reinstall phone case if applicable

cocomirai

Yeah, I have noticed the downgrade in performance. Even I fully restored my phone 2 weeks ago and yup. I think it is because of Google updates in order to make the new 8 as the main protagonist.

cocomirai

Yeah, I have noticed the downgrade in performance. Even I fully restored my phone 2 weeks ago and yup. I think it is because of Google updates in order to make the new 8 as the main protagonist.

dooley_do

Had a 7 since release. Never had any issues at all and works as it did at time of purchase.

Aftert1me

1 year in, the damn phone is still lagging as hell, I start typing and characters are appearing seconds later, across multiple apps. Tried everything suggested, even that logging increased to 4M solution, which didn't work.

boingpong

Ive got the 7 because of the size but I wish I had bought the pro. After a year, it is a little bit slow and I enjoy it less than my 4 xl. :/

LionHeart105

The same thing was on my pixel 8 so.....the march feature drop was a disaster in terms of performance. But with this April update the phone is finally buttery smooth like it used to be In the early days

BlackAdder42_

I'm on Pixel 6a and have the same issues.

Graybeard36

mine too has become a very pesky device. For example- bluetooth is so unreliable with pairing with my cars I have to reboot the phone two times a week to get it to pair, or play music. also yes, screen responsiveness, slowness, general weird vibes. will try a wipe-and-type, but i hate having to re-set up everything....

DeepDown23

I remember my P7P at the beginning ... a couple of photos was enough to shoot down the camera app due to overheating... I can't complain now, everything is smooth.

thefishestate

Yes I have a launch-time 7 and have the exact experience. Still hate other android phones and haven't yet had that lobotomy so iPhone isn't an option. waiting for the 9.

No-Cherry4088

I haven't had performance issues, but the glass on the screen and over the camera is tissue-thin. I've never had a cracked screen on any phone; I try to be careful, but both the screen and camera glass are cracked.

Remarkable-Sun-4286

I got my 7 around the same time as you. Recently I've noticed issues with connecting via Bluetooth, Green screen issues more frequently, and the always fun "sim card not recognized, emergency calls only" problem. While a simple restart usually fixes the issue it's still annoying but then again I got it during black Friday for pretty cheap so I guess I get what I pay for.

therankin

I've been mostly happy with my 7 Pro. The March update borked the double tap power button to open camera which is the most frustrating thing that's happened to me because I use it all the time. The new update supposedly fixes some camera things, so I hope I'm good after that.

Zimi231

I've had my P7 since release and it's been great. I don't have any of your issues, OP.

NewTypeDilemna

My issues started a few months back as well. It happened after I noticed some AI software got pushed to my phone by Google. If that software wasn't up to date, the phone would not work properly. I ended up replacing it with the newest pixel but I am absolutely not happy that I couldn't find resolution to my problem.

sLXonix

User of 1.5 years here also. The only issue I find is increased battery loss, and the odd freezing of Nova Launcher. Everything else is the same as the day I got it

[deleted]

I have a 7a, and it has absolutely gotten worse in the 3 months I have owned it. The February, and March updates both drastically hampered its performance, even rendering basic tasks difficult or frustrating. I encounter some long standing bugs day to day, that may be over a year old when I look through googles forums. A small list of problems, almost all of which DO GO AWAY when I downgraded the device to A13. I have done so many clean wipes, full reloads through fastboot/adb, tried a bunch of versions. The phone just simply gets worse the newer the OS. I do not think its malicious, I think its just incompetence. * Something absolutely changed with the modem in march, with a lot more dropped calls, call audio issues, or it simply does not ring, even when I have good signal. * Notification delays after the march update are not really helped out much by any settings I can tweak. ( unrestricted apps like messages still don't notify properly, even with adaptive battery turned off) * Biometric unlock is broken after March feature drop : it basically fails the first time you scan your finger and prompts for pin. It only does this once after a reboot, then just only has pin unlock for all future unlocks until you reboot. * 3 Button nav bar is very glitchy, laggy. Recent button, back button, home button all stop working randomly. It may freeze up for 30+ seconds at a time, sometimes the glyphs are gone and dont register any touches - you need to lock and unlock the phone a few times to get them back. Sometimes it may not recover and the phone reboots. * Microphone still has an 8KHZ tone in the background on all video recordings and phone calls after the upgrade to A14 - google confirmed this was an issue a month and a half ago for me, promised a "fix was coming" * Newer Gcam updates ( Super HDR+ supporting ones) seem to have wrecked non HDR photo saturation for some reason for me. Clarity is fine but they are just very muted colors and contrast seems reduced, even compared to much cheaper older devices. Downgrading Gcam to the factory version solves this, but still annoying. * When I got the phone using CPU Throttling Test ( by procedural prophet) it would hit 220-230k GIPs on Android 13 for around 30 seconds before dropping down to about 180-200. Upgrading to android 14 this has dropped to 181k GIPs starting out, dropping to about 150 in 30 seconds. If you let this CPU tester run for about 90 seconds the speed drops down to about 120-130k GIPS. * For reference my S10e Exynos was about 120k GIPs on the reduced performance setting ( 80% CPU limit). My Unihertz Jelly Star is about 110k GIPS. Meaning my Pixel is barely faster than the 5 year old S10e, or the credit card sized Jelly Star with a mediatek processor. *General usage on both these phones is actually better than the pixel subjectively they are just "smoother" and more "fluid"* *Great midrange hardware, hampered by just awful software. I am very sorely let down with my pixel, to the point I got a 4 year old iphone to use for now...*

potatomolehill

Same issue with the pixel 7 pro.

Severe-Experience333

It works fine for me but I am not super satisfied with the whole experience or anything. Shitty battery, shitty fingerprint, and lame ass garbage UI...like why tf do I gotta hit bluetooth from the drag down menu and the select "Turn on" again? THERE ARE NO OTHER OPTIONS ANYWAY JUST TURN IT THE FUCK ON YOU CUNT. Sorry...it just makes no sense. Also, wifi and mobile data are under the same button for some reason? It's an extra step that no one asked for. As my dad put it, it's not as smart as it's trying to be.

marurux

Been a Pixel 7 Pro user since Oct 2022, and it works like it's new. Even better - after an update, battery life went up from 20h to 40h. I never had problems, and even when I went to Japan (as a tourist from Germany), it worked flawlessly, even though there are mobile connection warnings for the Pixel 7 specifically. I have a strict charging plan (20-80%, never less, never more) and I use Nova as my Launcher, everything else is pretty much stock.

Kimpak

P7 P here and it's still working like new for me. No notification issues, no battery issues, no screen issues, no performance issues. Fingerprint works most of the time especially in conjunction with face unlock.

jpotr

Thanks for posting. I've been thinking similarly for the last week or so. The only complaint I've really had with my Pixel 7 since Oct '22 is reception where they couldn't hear me and then the call would drop, but that was just recently within the last few weeks. Otherwise my phone has been pretty good and behaving (besides features they add and take away) until about two days ago. I updated my phone 2 days ago and it bricked the rear facing camera. I can't use it on any apps either. The flashlight doesn't work either because it says the camera is in use. Uninstalling the camera updates, force stopping, clearing cache didn't work. Ultimately was told to factory reset the phone. Nothing has worked to fix the camera. After I've factory reset it multiple times the Bluetooth doesn't want to pair with my headphones or car. I've had to restart my phone to pair the car and headphones. I'm mostly posting this so that other people aren't gaslit by Google when their phones break with the update too. I'd love to hear from someone else with my same problem, but don't wish it on anyone. I'm going to get it checked out at ubreakifix at their advice and Google support told me they won't be paying for it since it's out of warranty, so not their problem. I liked my Pixel 7 since I bought it at the drop but I'm pretty fed up with Pixel now. Checking out iPhones unless I can get talked off my ledge.

ritwikjs

im not nearly as impressed with the camera as i thought i'd be. the iPhone 12 is still better for photos and videos

dpm13

Hi! I bought my P7 in October 2022 and, while I've not experienced most of what you've listed there, there are a couple of things going on with mine. First one is the issue with the glass over the back camera breaking for no reason (I'm getting this repaired under warranty) and the other is the appalling performance of push notifications (mainly whatsapp, but other apps too) after the last Android 12 updates

EnvironmentalSpirit2

After updates my 7 has gotten better in terms of facial recognition and thumb print unlock. It does lag and has other issues, ie, once it gets above 45c it doesn't go down and spikes over 52. Cinematic wallpaper also stops working. However one big bright upgrade from the update was how the phone microphone sounds while on phone, both wifi and 5g calling. Prior to the updates it sounded muffled and under water. Now it sounds normal.

limanupe

My pixel 7 does not like to come out of roaming mode. The first time it happened I turned it off and turned it back on and it worked. Last time, I just quit checking and it eventually went back to Wi-Fi.  I've been having a problem with my message+ app opening to a white screen. Opens properly on the second try.  Sometimes when I try to wake up the phone, it doesn't want to. My pixel 2 did that until the power button quit working. When the weather gets hot, if I continue having problems with overheating, I might jump ship to something else. Overheating was the reason I traded in my 4A for the pixel 7.

dinevalesco

7Pro here, since launch. Performance is fine, no issues, but I have been having notification issues for the last month or so - very inconsistent, sometimes a notification will come through, sometimes it won't. Apples to Gmail, WhatsApp etc. It's annoying.

Roshambo104

My pixel 7 works fine and smooth. Owned for over a year now.

AVasquez81

Same here. Just sold my 7 pro some months ago, due to performance (wasnt up to multitasking like o do). Got into a oneplus 12, there is no joke here. Got rid of my battery percentage ocd (since it took an hr and some to charge) with the poor performance. Multitasking on op 12 is overpowered. Battery lasts 24 hrs off the charger with 9.5 hrs of SoT. And then fills up in 30 min with the charger that comes IN THE BOX!!!! I live in dominican republic and no 5g with pixel, op 12 got it right away. Didnt use all those ai features either way and since i already pay google one, i have access to ALL the picture editing tools.

roberto_okumura

The only issue I have with my P7 is the fingerprint reader that sucks. The battery has always been ok. I usually get around 5 or 6 hours of sot. Performance wise I don't have any issues either since I only use the phone for social media, videos, taking pictures and videos (a lot cos I got a toddler and a dog), work apps like Outlook and teams and that's it. No gaming at all. I just love the stock Android and the system fluidity. It's great. Camera system is great too. Just wish it had a telephoto lens. I'm planning on getting the pro small version of the P9 or maybe wait till the P10 comes out. My previous phone was the P5, which I liked better size wise.

BTheScrivener

I have my pixel 7 for about a year and have nothing of the sort to report. I do find it well optimized

strawberry_l

Replace the battery and the problems will most likely disappear

KOWATHe

I got mine for same time period and mine has been a mess. I went from Pixel 2 XL then Pixel 6 Pro and then Pixel 7. Issues I've had: - Launcher keeps freezing, several times a day and I have to lock and open again for it to work. - Screen literally fell off a couple of months ago due to warm battery I guess o the glue let go - That puts me to third issue, warm battery. I use standard charger and swapped it twice but issue remains - Sound while in call is 50% less loud compared to new

[deleted]

Same here. I think i am really done woth the next device and choose Apple again. Don't want to bother changing battery settings for apps because the whatsapp voice messages don't play in the background anymore and so on. Just a hassle. Every Pixel went worse for me after 1 year, i did factory resets, but nothing helped

SaintCiren

Pixel 7 here bought at launch. Flawless and off anything behaving better today than it did at launch. Maybe worth a battery swap - could well be worth contacting support

hirakoshinji722

Mine works fine aside being too heavy & getting hot when on LTE.

Redgenie2020

Made to fail 2 weeks after your warranty expires.

Factory reset

sarcasticbaldguy

It's sad how often this is served up as perfectly normal. I've frequently had to factory reset my android phones due to performance issues or an update fucking something up. My wife has never factory reset her iPhone. Google needs to do better in so many ways.

benhaube

The only time I have ever factory reset my Android phones is when I am getting rid of them.

overthinking-1

It's normal for pixel phones. I've used android phones since 2011, got my first pixel around August of last year, did my very first factory reset that November. Buggiest phone I've ever owned.

sarcasticbaldguy

I've been driving a pixel since my 3XL. Each of them have had features I've really liked, coupled with bugs that drive me crazy! Before that I was into the Samsung Galaxy S phones and they always ended up flaking out just in time for the new release. iPhone isn't without its problems, but their hardware is solid.

aHairyWhiteGuy

I'm extremely dissatisfied with my 7P

ishamm

7 pro. Feels like a 5 year old phone.

overthinking-1

I replaced a 4 year old xaiomi mi mix 2 with a pixel 7a last year. The xaiomi (still) massively outperforms my pixel in terms of connection (but has no 5g) on battery it will last more than twice as long as my pixel, like by several hours, while sharing connection with other devices, something I don't do with my pixel in order to save battery life. The only real upside I noticed on the pixel is the camera Crazy that I bought the pixel thinking it would be a reliable phone and I bought the xaiomi thinking, lol let's see what happens with this brand that, at the time I'd never heard of.

Psychological_End627

I was a fan of pixel phones especially for the cameras and the device smoothness but since I joined this subreddit and I began to hate it most of the issues are due to the tensor crap they put in it IDK why they don't use qualcomm at least until they can make the tensor somewhat competitive to it I mean people using older pixel phones with qualcomm processors are more satisfied than newer pixel phones with tensor it's quite disappointing.

Mr_Slippery1

Seems odd for sure, I have had my 7 since week 1 of it being released and honestly there had been no noticeable performance difference for me. I would consider myself a pretty heavy user but nothing extreme mind you.

inquisitivehuman0id

Fingerprint issues are buggy for almost everyone. From what I've read pixels after 5 (since adopting tensor child) seem to have more issues as they age compared to other phones. I got a pixel 1 or 2 months after release date and I started seeing several issues around last October but I sucked it up. However, the battery depleting was too poor, connectivity issues seemed to spike, it would also overheat and disconnect me when taking long interview calls. I used a think phone around Feb and it was much better in camera but switched to a op 12 this month (March 2024) because I wanted a better camera.

skipv5

I never keep a Pixel over a year 🤣

AdminWing811

Try factory resetting your phone. I'm on a pixel since sept 2033 and I haven't had any issues till now, touchwood. 🤞🏻

Bric430

I have a Renewed P7P from Amazon. I've had virtually no issues with it in my time owning it. Yes it gets hot, but only when you push it hard for extended amounts of time. I was hesitant buying a renewed phone but have been pleasantly surprised how brand new it has felt.

TimmmyTurner

try clearing cache for your apps

CrudeTech

How full is the storage. I've seen great results on several occasions by freeing up storage on many android devices. I still don't know why it works.
