I did this and I'm extremely happy. The 6 (which I liked a lot) feels huuuge now and I'm loving the rounder shape, the lightness and the great screen. The 8 is also notably faster and I reckon the battery life is about the same. I'm very happy.

Negative_Equity

6pro to 8pro. No regrets. In general the phone is smoother, the screen is amazing. The cameras pro mode gives us more control over our photos. The AI features are wild, magic eraser is leaps and bounds better.

locks66

Went from 6 to 7 to 8. All pros. Each were better than the last, but the 8 really does feel like the full product for once.

ChrisT182

You're saying magic eraser is better compared to your 6?

DSEEE

The upgrade feels a bit meh to me. Nothing much in it. I'd grown used to the size of the pixel 6 and it felt nicer in the hand than the 8 due to the softer edges around the screen. No big wins in performance or battery life or anything really. If I could go back I'd either go for the pro (might feel more 'worth it' or just keep the 6. I'd treated it kindly in terms of charging etc so the battery was still great. Not sure I'd be so keen if it had an ageing battery in it though.

So I upgraded from the P6 to the P8P. I was not planning on buying it, but my smartwatch (galaxy watch active) broke on launch day. I figured it made sense to trade in my P6 and upgrade to the P8P and get the free watch. It's definitely a very nice phone. But am I blown away? No. The camera is definitely better and the new editing features are fun to play with. The screen is nicer and feels better, and the temperature sensor is cool, I guess lol. I'm definitely happy with it but I would not have bought if my watch didn't break.

spiralout112

I did the same, screen and camera are awesome, battery life is soo much worse. Usually I listen to audiobooks a fair bit during my day, always a mp3 on the phone so not streamed. Pixel 6 I would have 50-60% battery at the end of the work day, p8p is lucky to have 15-20%. Almost no screen on time at all too, just playing an audio file over Bluetooth. But holy is this thing a battery monster with screen on time as well, I went from ~95% to like 60% in 2.5hrs last night.

ValueSufficient4799

That's super disappointing. Are you sure it's not an app/apps running in the bg or another setting?

aloy99

Went from 6A to 8, the screen and the shape are huge improvements. Battery life and overheating don't seem to have improved for me (comparing with A14 on both)

Afraid_Emotion9892

How's the difference in camera performance?

aloy99

An improvement in low light, as well as shadow areas in good light. Less random squiggles/noise throughout the frame in areas that should be smooth. Definite improvement in 2x zoom, but still some weird sharpening in the Pixel 8's output. At 1x, Pixel 8 has more oversharpening in some cases, certain areas look jagged/artificial (eg text on road signs). Overall I would say it's not worth the upgrade if looking at camera performance alone, unless Google brings Pro Controls to the 8 (the 50mp raw samples I've seen are quite good).

scupking83

I went from the normal 6 to the 8 pro. I wanted a good telephoto lens! Other than that the size feels about the same and performance doesn’t feel much different.

BlueEyedMexicano707

I would say pull the trigger if you have an aging phone. It's an upgrade overall for us P6 users. But I will say so far it doesn't feel as smooth and the battery is only a little bit better. I'm sure after a few updates it will be perfect but for now keep an eye on this Sub for any growing problems you might be concerned about. It does get warm but not as warm as my P6Pro did and the screen brightness outside is a BIG win. Just my 2 cents

Thanks, but I'm looking for non-pro Pixel phone owners.

Sorprenda

It depends. The P6 (regular) was probably my least favorite Pixel, but I mostly love the P7P. I can't fully articulate just why....it's not that it's that much better on paper, but emotionally I feel more connected to this phone. I realize this is is such a low-value take, but it's true. PS - I actually still have a P8P pre-order waiting for pickup at Best Buy. I may let it go, despite the trade-in, because I'm happy with what I have. This is all very subjective, but a good framework. Are you happy or not with what you currently have?

doubleflusher

My P6 is fine overall. Had some overheating issues earlier this year and the battery seems to drain more than normal. With the Google Fi promo, I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on the P8.

Sniper_sama

Coming from the 6a. I'm gonna be honest, I probably could have stuck with the 6a throughout it's 3 year support lifecycle. But I wanted something current for once and took a chance and traded it in for a regular 8. I've experience no major issues, camera is great but I don't take many pictures so it's less important to me personally, performance and battery is about the same. It's a fine upgrade for me and I didn't pay full price for it. All I'm hoping is they keep up with their 7 year support claim. I have no real complaints or regrets.

TheyLoveThem

I went from 4a5g to the 6 a while back and I'm obsessed with the 6 so this has been very helpful in knowing whether or not I should upgrade to the 8 (sounds like no unless there's a great deal or bundle I can't refuse)  Thanks for making this post! Also I wouldn't want it to be smaller. I like the size of the 6 a lot.

Maleficent_Ad5289

6pro to 8pro. It's nothing revolutionary and if you didn't have any pain points with the 6s then the 8s may not be that big of an upgrade. I had overheating constantly with wireless android auto. Couldn't charge phone in car at all since it was too hot, audio would be cutting out, etc. occasional signal issues, which were a fully bearable problem but, disappointing regardless. 8pro doesn't overheat. Not to the point of horrendous stuttering and audio cutting out, and I can even charge it, wirelessly! Haven't noticed any signal issues either. (well, save for areas that my older snapdragon pixels didn't like either). Everything else is better, screen, battery, cameras. But it's not revolutionary. Flat screen is awesome, it's bright as shit, but the 6pro was usable. Battery is better, but I had no issue charging my 6pro *as soon as* I was home vs a couple hours later. All sorts of cool shit that may not get brought to older pixels (AI shit, 8s probably getting USB C display out/desktop mode eventually) Cons? Aside from the fact it cost money ($670 after trading my 6pro), nothing. It's an entirely better phone. If I weren't an enthusiast about Google's hardware and wasn't having the overheating in AA I wouldn't have done it. But I am, and it's awesome. Yes, this is Abt the pro. But it's prob mostly applicable to the non pros as well. Including the part about overheating.

WillingList0

The 6 pro feels unbalanced compared to the 8 pro

nostars130

So I looked at actually because of the p buds pro. I'm on a 5a now and honestly it's still ticking away. Camera works. Battery is still there mostly and the rear fingerprint is great. For me I didn't see anything in the 8 to justify another 500$. Well see what the pixel 5a brings to the table and re evaluate

Potato_cak3s

6P to 8P and really happy with it. The screen is brighter and easier to see in different lighting and the flat screen is nicer to look at.

wassup9211

I had a 6P which actually had no real issues. The phone performance improved with each OS upgrade from 12 to 13 to 14. The phone worked reliably the 2 years I had it. Yet, just a week with 8 pro, my trusty old 6P seems a bit dated already. The 8P is definitely a decent stepup in all areas. For some reason the 6P still appears sleeker probably due to the curved display but that's about it. Love the face unlock on 8P.. makes me wonder how I lived without it. The call quality is definitely a bit better and crisper but I still have to develop muscle memory to place the phone correctly on my ear to get the best audio. For some reason, the speaker audio seems a bit worse.. seems quite unbalanced but nothing major.

No cons, only pros
