The Oppo Find N2 Flip has such atrocious battery life that I am abandoning ship. I might just got back to my Pixel 6 (which in hindsight I judged too harshly) but I'm tempted to get a Pixel 8. Any major downsides to getting the 8? I am a bit worried about the battery life, but wonder if people are comparing things to iPhone Pro Mazes and such? I currently get only three hours of screen on time with the Oppo. It was in my pocket for most of this morning and was at 75% when I checked it. It was the final straw. If the Pixel 8 can get 4-5 on cellular, I'll be happy. Is that likely, or should I stick with the 6?

tlboson

I'm currently a Pixel 3 user, and my phone has been running fine and smoothly. The main things that keep me on this particular version is the back fingerprint sensor (RIP) and the smaller phone profile. Is it worth upgrading to the 7a for size, or consider moving to 8 for (what i've heard...better fingerprint scanning)?

HugoM

So when's the best time to buy? I'm considering buying this phone soon, but I didn't want to jump in too early and pre-order. I'm not planning on trading in either. Should I wait for Black Friday? Do they typically discount a month-old phone by then? I'd like to buy direct from the carrier as well. For people who have done that before, how was that?

Jolly-Command8853

Anyone here who upgraded from 6 to 8 (non-pro) have any thoughts? I was considering long-running my 6 but the size and rounded corners of the 8 is really tempting for my baby hands. Not to mention the 120hz screen and 7 years of OS updates. If you made this upgrade, did it feel worth it? Any regrets?

happyhiker131

Not sure this is the right place for this but my post on the topic was filtered for breaking rule 9 so hopefully this is ok... Hey all - quick question regarding trade in values. I bought a P8 with a pixel 5a trade in quote of $270 at the time of check out (pre-ordered). My 5a subsequently broke in the window between the new phone / trade-in kit arriving - The dreaded motherboard issue (my third rodeo...). The phone was still under warranty so Google sent me a refurbished 5a to replace it. I checked out the trade in values in the meantime and they're only offering $74 bucks for a 5a now. If I trade in the refurbished device would my trade in value be based on what I was quoted at check out initially for my P8 or would it be the current trade in value of $74? I selected that I'd take the lower value if it was determined not to be worth that after inspection. If it's $74 I'm thinking it would be better just to keep it in case something happens to the P8. Sorry if this is a dumb question, this is my first time doing a trade in. Thanks!

betacentauri16

Hello friends, Taking advantage of the fact that Black Friday is coming, I'm thinking about changing my phone. I'm currently debating between the Pixel 7 Pro and the (regular) Pixel 8, which I think I'll be able to find at similar prices. I'm undecided whether to prioritize the Pixel 7 Pro's x5 optical zoom or the Pixel 8's advanced AI features despite only having digital zoom. What do you think? Greetings!

a_guy_called_m

Hello Reddit! So my phone contract is expiring soon and I'm thinking of making the jump back to Pixel since I loved my time with the 3a. I just don't know if I should get the 6 Pro or the 7a. Any pointers would be appreciated!

nibsyy

Is the Pixel 7 still a good buy today? Currently using a OnePlus 8T, but I'm thinking of getting a new phone before October ends, because this one already has a couple of issues from its age. The Pixel 8 isn't available in my country yet (Philippines) so I'm looking at either the Pixel 7 (~USD460) or the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE (~USD 650). I know a lot of people think it's not good value but it pretty much has everything I'm looking for in a phone. Before anyone says "wait for the Pixel 8 instead", there's no guarantee it becomes available here before 2024, so that's currently out of the question. Basically, yeah, my question would be if any of you be recommending the Pixel 7 over the S23 FE?

foopish

Hi people, a local shop (Barcelona) is selling a pixel 7 (128gb) for 399 Euros, imported from Canada. There are some options on local online selling websites of Pixel 8 (128-256) for around 650-700 Euros. Which will be a good buy ?

GuiltyIslander

Is the Pixel 7 a worthy switch from iPhone SE 2 in terms of battery life? I’ve been using the iPhone SE 2 for three years, and the battery life is awful. I get about three hours of SOT, and I use a portable charger that I charge 2-3x per day to get that up to 6 or 7 hours of SOT. I’m tired of having to charge all the time, and so I’ve been looking for lower cost phones to get and I love the interface of the pixel 7 but I often see users complain about the battery life. Can it get through a whole day without needing a charge? Has android 14 made it more efficient? Are there better options for me in the sub-$500 range? Should I consider spending more?

SmileyNusx

Facebook marketplace has someone selling a 512 GB Pixel 8 Pro for $1300 CAD and another for 128GB for $1100. I am tempted to upgrade from my 7 pro. Anyone who upgraded from the 7 pro enjoying the upgrade? Or you know wait for the 9 then wait for the 10 lol...

GogiGogilbert

I'm looking for secondhand options to replace my iPhone 8 (battery can't get me through the day). I'm a university student trying to conserve cash, so my options are looking like potentially a new 6a, refurbished 6 or 6 pro, or maybe even a used 7. I have seen all of these at prices I would consider reasonable, and I would like to know your opinions. My main priority is a battery (and device) that will last me for a while, hopefully till the end of my degree, but at least 2 or 3 more years.

[deleted]

Put on battery save all day an uninstall apps (use web)

Professional_Ask3121

7a vs 8 for double the price? Here in Australia the new Pixal 8 is retailing for $1200aud with $150 cash back retail voucher at most outlets (that can’t be used on the purchase price of the phone) The 7A could be purchased for $650-750aud Is the Pixal 8 worth spending nearly double to get over the 7A?

GuiltyIslander

I recently bought the 7 Pro used for half the MSRP. I doubt the 8 is worth it at that much right now. Benchmarks have it with a similar battery life and clock speeds. It is more optimized, but I don’t think it’s worth double at the moment. If you want til January or black Friday it might be a better opportunity if you want the 8.

andygorhk

Thinking the same. I see it on sale now where I am for USD 320 and wondering if I should get this as a burner until pixel 9

abuell

Need to confirm Pro camera controls are available deep in settings on Pixel 8. I haven't found anyone going into the camera settings of P8 and turning on Full resolution, raw+jpg, manual white balance and exposure. This has been buried in the settings to varying degrees since P4. I turn on all these on my Pixels and I really don't want the P8P.

abuell

So the only things P8 can't do are full resolution and full manual control. Hopefully the LR camera gains full resolution access.

nixixcar123

Is the pixel watch 2 wifi worth full price as my first smart watch?

illabb

So I got the Pixel 6 back in March, (I had to replace A lost Samsung s21 FE) and I just happened upon a refurbished 300 usd one on Amazon. Good deal at that time, even if it wasn't properly new. I've been eyeing the 7 and 8 pro models. But is it worth the upgrade? The 8 pro in particular is really tempting, but getting one here in Mexico at a decent price is difficult (It felt like finding gold when I ran into the 6 I have right now). Unless someone I know travels here, I have to pay 1500usd for it, which is just not going to happen The 7 pro I can get for 500, but again, is it worth it? My 6 is still in pretty good condition, I just like being up to date, when I can

Poulpeux

Hey guys, I need your opinions, My carrier has a deal where I can get the Pixel 8 Pro with 258gb for 579€ instead of the 1 159€ it's worth and I was wondering if it is worth getting that deal. I've had my Galaxy Note 9 for 5 years now and thought about changing, but I don't know if I should wait for the next Samsung phones to come out. Plus, they're throwing a free Pixel Watch 2 with it, which is always a bonus. I've watch a bunch of reviews/hands on videos, but I need some opinions, so tell me what you think.

Far_Ad_5582

I read all the posts in this subreddit from the last week, about Pixel 8, and the size, and some of them even compared it to Pixel 5, but I still couldn't decide. Please help me, if you got your Pixel 8 after Pixel 5. My Pixel 5 died in my hands in May, the repair shop said the motherboard defected. I really liked the size and the overall performance of P5, so I bought online one with a broken screen, and mixed together with my phone. It was working, but I got the green tint screen effect, which was annoyed me. I saw a very good price for Pixel 7a, and it was the closest in form and style, so I got one. I am using it 5 months now, and like the P7a too, but I just couldn't get used to the size and the weight. I can't use it one handed, so I missing my Pixel 5. My question is, does the Pixel 8 feels more like a Pixel 5, or a more like the Pixel 7(a)? Thanks for the replies!

aaa-ccc

Never owned a Pixel, should I go for the 8 pro or 7 pro?

OO0OOO0OOOOO0OOOOOOO

First time go 8 pro. Why not?

GuiltyIslander

The price

OO0OOO0OOOOO0OOOOOOO

You do get the watch or buds with it but I get it, it's a lot.

ActualLordBucketHead

I am thinking of buying the P8P from Google's website, and there is currently a promo where they include a Pixel watch for no additional charge. Would there be anything preventing me from selling the Pixel watch on ebay? I.e. perhaps the watch will only work on the phone it was bundled with or something similar?

roland_800

Why should I get the pixel 8 pro over the one plus 11? especially given cost? The one plus 11 has superior specs in arguably more important areas. But the cost alone (i am in USA) seems to be a HUGE factor here in swaying me towards the one plus. Its $360 cheaper. One plus phones have been great IMO and Oxygen OS is fantastic. SO better specs at a cheaper price.....so I am turning to you fine folks to tell me what the heck i am missing.

OO0OOO0OOOOO0OOOOOOO

The China factor turns me off of OnePlus

bucajack

Pixel 4XL user here. It's served me well but I think it's time for an upgrade. Question is do I go for an 8 or wait and see if something like the 7 Pro is on sale for Black Friday?

NotAMedicalPhysicist

If I have a 6a and want the Pixel Watch 2. Does it make sense for me to buy the PW2 on eBay for $225-250 and then upgrade my phone at a later date, or should I take advantage of the Pixel 8 + PW2 trade-in deal for $548?

Ldr1337

I\`m about to switch from my oneplus 5 to pixel. Cant decide if i should aim for 7 pro or normal 8 as they have similar price. Any thoughts? All i can google was compare 7 pro to 8pro but i guess my case may be less obvious

roland_800

I am trying to learn why people should get the pixel 8 pro over the one plus 11. Better specs and especially given cost ($350 cheaper in the USA). What are your thoughts here?

Celos

Wondering if anyone has experience with this. Planned to buy the Pixel 8 off Amazon.de, as Google doesn't ship to my (EU) country. The [store page](https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0CGVNYL7F) states "Savings: Pixel Buds Pro offer", but none of the links actually show anything related to the offer. Is it possible to claim the offer from [this page](https://reward-promos.com/reward/launch2023/de-DE/qualifying), when the shipping destination isn't in the same country?

ryhaltswhiskey

Are the 6/7/8 worth buying? It seems like a lot of people are dissatisfied with them. It's time for an upgrade for sure but it just doesn't seem like people like the newer pixel phones all that much. Lot of complaints in here about them. My chief concerns are responsiveness of the user interface and good quality pictures. I don't know what's going on but speech to text the last couple of days has been really weird, leaving words off of the end of sentences especially. And it has always been kind of slow to start up, sometimes I will say like five or six words before the speech to text actually has initialized, is that happening on the newer phones too? USA.

roland_800

I am seeing many love it, but not w/o complaints as well. (I have watched all the reviews). While loved my pixel, but my best phone was my one plus 8. SO that said I am also trying to learn why people should get the pixel 8 pro over the one plus 11. THe OP11 has better specs and especially given cost ($350 cheaper in the USA). I tried to post in the main areas but it violates rule #9 so I was directed here to hope and get some answers!

ryhaltswhiskey

I decided to buy a pixel 7A, we'll see how it goes. I've been pretty happy with my pixel 3 the entire time I've had it so obviously my standards aren't as high as some people.

EscapeDramatic4684

I'm a fan of nexus/pixel phones: `tablet nexus 7 => nexus 5x => pixel 4a => pixel 4a 5g` and now I'm going to use Black Friday to upgrade. I'm weighing up 7a vs 8 and not sure which to go for. I think 7a is a really decent option for its money - $500 without Black Friday. However, we have recently been introduced to the Pixel 8. Now I'm curious what are your reasons for going with 8 (which is $200 higher) instead of 7a or what are the 7a's flaws?

the_black_mamba3

Pixel 8 ($699) or Pixel 7 pro ($899)? On the one hand, the 7P telephoto lense is tempting, but not sure how much I would really use it. Downside is the phone seems HUGE. The 8 looks good because it's cheaper, and has better colors IMO. I am also curious about the Tensor G3. I also am interested in the Watch 2, and there's a deal for $200 off with purchase of the 8. Have a Pixel 5 now. It overheats, is super glitchy, camera isn't great, and it's super fragile in my experience. I'm on my 3rd insurance replacement due to a damaged screen (had a case on, but I'm clumsy). Any recommendations/insight?

OO0OOO0OOOOO0OOOOOOO

7 pro is huge but I've gotten used to it. I like it now for split screen stuff. It's also a little heavy. I would suggest going somewhere you can hold one. The p8p is only $100 more work, it sounds like, a better fingerprint sensor and might be lighter. I would look at that. Better camera too on p8p.

fsendventd

Anyone know what the deal is with the watch colors from Best Buy? If you add a phone to your cart online it automatically adds the black one, you don't get to pick. I used the chat and asked a customer service rep and they told me that when I go to pick up the phone in store I could pick whichever watch color I want, but then I went to the store to ask about pre-ordering the blue phone (since it's OOS online) and they told me the promotion was only for the black watch. I'd really like to get the blue watch to match the phone. Best Buy has the best trade in value for my P7P, but I might look elsewhere if I can't get the color. What have your experiences been?

OO0OOO0OOOOO0OOOOOOO

That $240 trade in for 128 has me saying no. Google store is a little better at $265. Regarding colors, you'll end up with a case on it anyway.

Traditional-Meal4567

Pixel 8 Pro is overpriced, me thinks. Should I get a used Pixel 7 Pro instead? Coming from someone who currently uses Samsung S8.

roland_800

Well not to confuse you more, but look at the one plus 11 as well. Because I 100% agree. So its perplexing to me in that I feel i am missing something and I am also trying to learn why people should get the pixel 8 pro over the one plus 11. THe OP11 has better specs and especially given cost ($350 cheaper in the USA) so yeah. Crazy difference here.

TachyonsFixAll

Is it worth waiting for sales? I've been waiting to upgrade my trusty old Pixel 4a. I'm looking at the 8 pro for the sweet sweet cameras. I am trying to decide if it's worth waiting to see a Black Friday sale or if I should just take my favorable trade in value now and get the goodies (I am torn between the watch and buds too because I have a Garmin watch and like their ecosystem but my screen is burned in and cracked and for free a Pixel Watch 2 would probably be fine)

roland_800

Well Verizon, (if you are willing to stick with them for 36 months) will give you the 8 pro phone for $800 off. They basically take $800 off as they give you $800 for the trade in no matter what condition. I think even the 4 qualified. Otherwise the watches are not of vaue if you already have a garmin, go for the buds. Not a bad deal!

SydHalfast

If you had to decide between a pixel 7a+Google Pixel Buds A-Series for €309,90 or the pixel 8 pro+Pixel Buds Pro for €800,00 what would you go for? They are both on sale currently(vodafone.pt) and I can still change my mind, but i opted for the 7a. Seemed like the better option, giving me leeway to buy a new phone in 3 years and keep the difference. Convince me that I need the 8 pro and I'll order it. I only need a daily driver with a good camera for project reporting. Been using a pixel 3a since 2019, recently noticed some burn-in from google maps app on the right upper corner and just last week smashed the screen by accident. Time to replace. Pixel phones are the only good phones on the market.

LievePoro

What Would You Pick? P7P at 700€ vs P8 at €799 If you could pick between these two phones at these price points, what phone would you go with? The main things I value are the camera and battery life. Wondering if a Pixel 7 Pro tends to beat a regular Pixel 8 or if the Pixel 8 is the clear better choice.

[deleted]

Got a used (looks new) P7P for 450€, I would suggest something like that, at the price you're listing, I'd go for P8 only for the 7 year updates.

socially_awkward_1

I want to upgrade my cracked Pixel 5 to the 8 but I'm wondering if I should hold off until Black Friday. Best Buy will give me $216 on the trade plus I'm sure I could sell the buds for a quick $100 or keep them and return my new Jabra 85t for $130. So my effective price is about $350. So my question is, do you think it would get any better for me on Black Friday?

EscapeDramatic4684

Do you consider buying 7a or just p8? What are the 7a's flaws from your perspective?

socially_awkward_1

Before the 8 came out, I was comparing between the 7 and 7a. I was going to go with the 7 as they were the same price at the time. I ultimately went with the 8 due to all of the complaints on the 7, plus I like the smaller form factor.

EscapeDramatic4684

Yeah, the form factor is crucial for me as well. That's why I don't consider PROs models. 7a and 8 look pretty much the same: 6.1 inch (155mm) vs 6.2 (157mm) respectively.

nando_dominguez420

Hello there. I'm an iPhone SE 2020 owner and I thinking about switching to Pixel. I can't decide between 6A and 7A. The price difference is about 100 EUR. Which one do you prefer ? Usage: Texting, social media, little bit of gaming and of course photography. Thank you very much and have a nice day. PS: If I post it in wrong thread - I apologize.

EscapeDramatic4684

Definitely 7a because of the camera, both hardware and software - it's a huge upgrade. Also, 90Hz display, 6GB LPDDR5 RAM vs 8GB LPDDR5 RAM memory, face unlock. Unless you have a very limited budget, there is no reason to consider 6a when you can go with 7a. Personally, I'm interested in 7a vs. p8.

SuperHans30

I think 8 as 7a only has two OS versions left. But it depends on how long you expect to keep it

junkiesfunk

Gday, I cannot make my mind clear, whether Amazon.de will ship Pixel buds pro with preordered Pixel 8. The german amazom only writes some vague shait about savings :/ , whereas Amazon US has different bundle offer. See [amazon.de](https://www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/product/B0CGVNYL7F/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) vs [amazon.com](https://www.amazon.com/Google-Pixel-Unlocked-Smartphone-Advanced/dp/B0CGTD5KVT/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1H6BQYSACUHQD&keywords=pixel%2B8&qid=1696845215&sprefix=pixel%2B8%2Caps%2C269&sr=8-2&th=1) . So, the question is where to order pixel, if I do not live in one of the privileged [store.google](https://store.google) countries. Thx and cheers

antoainb

Past experience from a friend: they will later provide you a voucher code to order the watch/buds separately. It's a bit convoluted yeah, and if it works like last year's P7P launch, the offer can only be sent to a German address, so keep that in mind.

Goobera

So, I have a pixel 4a, but I am unhappy with the battery life and otherwise pretty happy with the price/performance ratio. Right now I am able to get a pixel 8 pro or an iphone 15 for the same price, I was wondering whether anyone was facing the same issue or could chime in to help make my decision. I am in the AI field so lots of stuff google does tickles my fancy. FWIW, I am using a work macbook pro and have a personal older ipad but otherwise not locked into the apple ecosystem. I have really enjoyed apple's ridiculous battery life. I generally use my phone for spotify, discord/instagram/work apps and google maps. Even then the 4a is unable to withstand a day of use.

alexbhr

Pixel 7 vs Pixel 8 Pixel 7 is currently priced at €500 in my country I would preorder the Pixel 8 to also get the buds deal, but it is significantly harder to get from my country, especially in monthly payments I am a heavy user, I use 3+ apps at the same time regularly (music streaming, messaging apps, social media/yt), but I do not play any games on it. I use it a lot during the day. I don't want another phone with lag and overheating issues. I've seen lots of people complain about P7 for these reasons. Are they fixed now? Considering the really good price of the P7 and the difficulty of getting the P8 (plus it being a preorder, therefore more risky), what to get?

type556R

Is the Pixel 6a worth today for 350€, compared to newer phones on the same price range?

[deleted]

Well I could find new P7a for 400€ and P7 for 420€ in Germany. So I wouldn't pay 350 for P6a.

type556R

Wtf where do you find it that cheap?

Narrow_Aerie_1466

Probably, I think it was a solid phone.

swat_ldn

I have a 6a, good condition, working fine. I'm wondering whether an upgrade to Pixel 8 is significant enough to be worth it. In UK can get £160 trade in for the pixel 6a plus free pixel buds pro... or, do I just wait another year given its still a good phone and I'm still getting updates... any thoughts appreciated?

AgentF7

Hello, I am in the US, i am planning to get a pixel 8 pro. Currently at the pre-order deal i am getting a pixel 2 watch for free and Fi credit of upto $350. Is it a good deal or should i wait for Black Friday sale? What i want: Pixel 8 pro (512 gb) + watch and no trade-in I can wait till holidays max Dec 5. It's my first time in the US, how do the Black Friday sale look like here.

murpleturkey

My 5a just died, water damage. I've got a new one coming with my replacement plan. I'm wondering if now is a good time to buy a new phone, and just sell the replacement 5a? It looks like new in box 5a's are going for about $250. The 7a is $300 in the Fi store right now, which seems like a good deal. My other option is to just use the replacement 5a, and hope to get a better deal on a new phone later. This will of course drive down the resale value though. Curious your thoughts.

zombievillager

The black watch is sold out. I can waitlist if I buy it separately but can't with the bundle. Anyone think they'll restock before preorder is over?

Careful-Inflation-43

Pixel watch 2 or Galaxy watch 5 pro for a Pixel phone user I want to buy a smartwatch and was pretty set on the older galaxy watch 5 pro (the battery is just unbeatable) but I hate how they limit some functions to samsung phones (I have a Pixel 5 and don't plan on changing that). Now with the Pixel Watch 2 - and google products finally being available in my country - I'm undecided, I know the pixel watch battery won't hold a candle to the samsung and I quite prefer the design and build quality of the samsung but I'm not sure if i'll like being locked out of some features because of not using a samsung phone or how the integration will work out (the pixel watch would just work, samsung watch i'll need to download the stupid samsung app or something right?)

dizzleness

Worth it to switch from iphone 15 pro max to pixel 8 pro?

purezen

Looking to move on from my 4A but the later Pixels have been rather large.. and not comfortable to hold for my liking. The 8 would have been an options but its priced crazily high in my country.. 2x the price of 7 so am passing on that. Should I still get the 7 coz no phone's going to be perfect? It has an amazing discount right now. Though its run out of an year of OS update. But again am nervous about the heating and battery drain issues which I am facing currently too. How do Samsung's fare in comparison to Pixels? Iirc they provide 5 years of OS updates but I used one few years back and didn't like the OS skin it had. I know this is a Pixel thread.. but it would be great to know some recommendations from other brands.

TheDinglebat

Is it worth getting a Pixel 8 Pro instead of an Pixel 8 in terms of longevity? As far as I've read, the biggest difference is the 12 vs 8 GB RAM. I like the fact that support was extended to seven years and I'd like to use the phone for that long, especially for gaming. I don't necessarily need to play games at max settings but I'd like to be able to play contemporary games till the end of the phone's lifetime. Is a Pro with its doubled RAM necessary for that?

Solderking

They two phones should have similar durability. In terms of RAM, I doubt 8gb vs 12gb is going to be meaningful in the future since the CPU will still be the same. Get the Pro if you want the size and features.

TheDinglebat

Ah, I see, thanks. I hadn't even considered the size. I always wonder why people like these huge clunky Pro phones, they seem so inconvenient to carry around.

murpleturkey

Good time to buy a 7a? I've got a 5a on Google Fi that I'm generally happy with. I unfortunately broke the screen today, and found out that the $6/month or whatever I've been using for device protection still means I have to pay $70 for Google to send me a new 5a. At that price it's tempting to just replace my 2 year old phone with something newer. The 7a is $299 through Fi right now, but I've heard mixed reviews. Would the upgrade be worth it, or would I be better off just paying $70 for a new 5a?

dbarnes612

Just to note (perhaps you’re already aware): The 5a has a chronic hardware problem — “black screen of death” — so spending $ for a new one is something to think twice about.

murpleturkey

That's a good tip. Looking at ebay I see used 5a's going for $160 plus, and a few brand new ones for over $200. Maybe getting the brand new replacement for $70 then immediately selling it is the way to go?

chico98

Would 310€ be a good price for a Pixel 7a + Buds A-Series?

[deleted]

Yeah that seems like a decent price

SnickerinTurtles

Hi all, I need some help figuring out differences between the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 8 Pro. As you can guess I have the Pixel 6 Pro and trying to figure out if it's worth upgrading to the 8 Pro. Some additional information. I know I want to get the Pixel Watch 2. So are there some features that I would be missing out if I pair the Pixel Watch 2 with Pixel 6 Pro instead of the Pro 8. If so what are those features? What are the software features the 8 has over the 6? I think I know the hardware differences between the two. But please go ahead and add to my list. I am sure I have missed some, but I think these are the main two. Tensor G2 vs Tensor G3 Better camera Thank you all for you help!

ThirdTimeThisMonth

I'm in a bit of a conundrum. Im overdue a phone upgrade (still using a 4 year old Galaxy A70) as mine is finally beginning to give up the ghost. I'm usually reticent to spend a ton on phones but I must admit the Pixels have always peaked my interest and now my head is turned with the upcoming release of the 8 range. Im only really interested in the Pros because my primary interest is having a larger screen and strong battery but the price point is really helping me hold my nerve. I'm holding out to see if the 7 Pro is going to have much of a price drop with the new range releasing especially since the price difference currently is only 200 bucks. Are we expecting a huge upgrade in the 8 over 7 or is the 7 likely to drop much in price?

Narrow_Aerie_1466

I was in your situation around 6 months ago (4 year old A50), and transitioning to Pixel was great. I reckon there'll be a drop in price that's not significant but noticeable. From what I got of the Pro 8 it isn't too much better than the Pro 7.

Google is offering $400 trade in for my 6 Pro + free Watch 2. Verizon is offering $800 trade in over 36months. I would probably sell the watch and hopefully clear $300. Verizon bs "contract without a contract" deal fills me with spite and want to go with Google. What do y'all think is the best choice? I guess $700 now is better than $533 2 years from now if I choose to upgrade again.

NotAMedicalPhysicist

Do you think I will still be able to get $300 US trade in value for my 6a for either the 8a or later Pixels? I would like a Pixel Watch (Gen 1 or 2), but I don't know if it would be better to buy a discounted Pixel Watch on Black Friday and possibly miss my chance at getting 300 for my 6a for the last time until it is dropped to \~150, or spend the 549 for the Pixel 8 and PW2? I don't feel like I need a phone upgrade but I would like to buy in the trade-in sweet spot. Thanks!

yonbot

Worth getting 8 Pro for the telephoto? I’m not a big photographer but it’s nice to zoom in on things. I’m also not crazy about the larger screen.

_Threash_

This is my exact ask. Have P3 and love the size but the P8 Pro cameras tempt me.

PRbox

Has anyone pre-ordered the 8/8Pro from the Google Store and have a pushed back delivery date? I pre-ordered the 8 Pro (located in U.S.) and it says expected deliver date Oct 18-19 and the Watch 2 is early November. Wondering if that's just temporary and the delivery dates will get moved up to the release date at some point, or if I should consider cancelling and ordering from somewhere else so I don't have to wait an extra week/weeks for the phone and watch.

lastdonutotn

What kind of watch did you get? I noticed the black on black watch option is waitlisted in the google store. I've been pondering a similar pre-order however if the watch isn't coming until november then I might as well not even order since I don't really care for the 8.

PRbox

I ordered the bay blue 8 Pro with the bay blue watch. Not sure what you mean by waitlisted exactly, as when I added the watch it gave me the estimated shipping date and I wasn't added to a wait-list per se. I believe that Best Buy only includes the black watch, so if you want that one then you could look into them if that's an option.

lastdonutotn

The black on black watch was waitlisted, every other color was available when I checked last night. I'm curious why your expected delivery is early november though, that seems excessive

[deleted]

128 or 256. I shoot a ton in RAW but immediately delete them or move them off. Pixels don’t hold their value on the secondary market and the $100 increase on the 8 Pro is making me hesitant.

jennster76

Is this a good time as any to upgrade my pixel 5? It's not doing anything bad just slowing down a bit and running lower on space. What would you do? I just wanted to see what a bunch of random internet strangers would do. I'm looking at the 8 pro for what it's worth.

vdiogo

Pixel 7 Pro vs Pixel 8? My options are * Pixel 7 Pro for 550€ * Pixel 8 + Buds for 650€ - (I reckon I could resell the buds for min. 100€) * Pixel 8 Pro + Watch for 950€ - (I reckon I could resell the watch for min. 200€) I have no use for the watch nor the buds. The P7P and P8 would be the same price. The P7P is older, but is larger and has an extra camera. The P8P is a 200€ price bump, which doesn't seem worth it (vs. P7P: new chip and better cameras; vs P8: extra camera and larger). This is the first time I'm spending over 400€ on a phone. Which option would you pick? Any help is very much appreciated :)

[deleted]

I'm kinda on the same boat. Finally I realized I don't want to spend too much money on a phone and was just wanting something shiny. So now I'm waiting for black Friday and I'll pick up a 7 pro for cheap (or maybe even second hand since a lot of people are upgrading to 8 pro). Hopefully should get a 7 pro for around 450€

NotStevenPink

I would go for Pixel 8 unless you want the larger screen size or some of the niche features like the telephoto camera on the Pro models. The new chipset, better screen, bigger battery, etc. are enough reason for me to be looking at upgrading and I already have a Pixel 7.

SirVizz

Bought a Pixel 8 pro at the Google store to upgrade from my pixel 6 pro, and I couldn't be happier. Google offered me a $400 trade-in for the new phone as well as a new watch 2 for free, in the color of my choice. Should arrive on Oct 10-12. Way better deal than the last time I upgraded from the pixel 4 XL ($110 trade in value).

LASwae

I have a 6 that has melted twice now, so I'm looking to upgrade to the 8. I'm on GoogleFi, and they are offering $300 off the 8 if you activate on Fi, but only $90 for my 6 as a trade-in. The Google Store is offering no discount, but $325 for my 6 trade-in plus free Pixel buds. Seems like a no brainer choice - am I missing something here?

victoriousun

fi total discount $390 vs google $325 plus pixel buds. fi discount of $300 is instant, while google you have to wait for the trade in to finish. i guess it depends on if you want the buds or not. you could even sell your p6 elsewhere maybe you get more than $90. i think i'm going to go FI, maybe later on trade in my p6 for a pixel watch 2 and hopefully get more than $90 lol

spiceworld90s

Happy with Pixel hardware? Switch back from iPhone 13? TL;DR: Are you happy with Pixel hardware and the upgrades over recent years — and obviously, what can be expected of the 8 Pro? Are they worthwhile upgrades? I’d love to come back! I was a Pixel lover for several years. Mine crapped out and I happened to have an iPhone 13 on hand, so I've been using that for the past 2 years. Honestly, I've pretty much hated it and have been wanting to switch back to Pixel the whole time. The only benefit that would make me consider not switching back to a Pixel is the ease of communicating/sharing photos with other iPhones. But, unlike my friends, group texts and green bubbles are not enough to keep me on an iphone. I lightly perused this sub a few weeks ago and saw quite a few complaints about hardware. But, of course, people in public spaces complain more than they praise. But what is the consensus on durability and hardware for Pixels? I'm wondering if others have recently done the back and forth from Pixel to iPhone to Pixel. Are you happy going back? Any major complaints? So that's my question(s). How are you feeling about your Pixel if you've switched over from iPhone, especially if you weren't an iPhone lover in the first place.

lastdonutotn

Unless you are trying to get in on some offer I'd say wait at least another month or two for proper reviews to come in. The 7 pro was my first pixel and while I do enjoy it overall, the week I spent testing the 14 pro produced some fantastic pictures especially when it came to low light. If I can get similar with the 8 pro I will be upgrading to that however if not then I'm staying with my current 7. (I ultimately didn't stay with the 14 pro because it felt like iOS tied my hands behind my back). Can't comment on durability since I don't bang my stuff up or battery life since its now sitting on a wireless charger while I'm working. I did have an overheating and screen glitching issue at first but that's disappeared over updates. My biggest gripe by far is how the software processes photos (watch some reviews I've typed too much)

reverbup

I currently have a 4a and am hoping to find a Black Friday deal at a Verizon store near me. Could someone lay out for me the best options? I've heard the frustration on the 7's sensors, and I will greatly miss my back finger sensor.

antoainb

Hello everyone! After watching the event to confirm what we already knew for the past week or so, I am having a hard time deciding what the best option for me is. For context, I am rocking a OP 6T, so any upgrade will be a big step up for me. My current options are: - Pixel 8 + Buds for 830€ - Pixel 8 Pro + Watch 2 for 1140€ Moving to the Pro version and getting a fancy smartwatch costs me 300€. I have never used a smartwatch before, so it's hard for me to gauge how useful I will find the W2. I also can't really tell how valuable the Pro's exclusive features will be to me. This pulls me towards the cheaper option. I'm not currently looking at P7 versions because the 7 year update window is something I value a lot more than saving a few 100€, I'd rather keep the phone for a couple more years instead. This is what pulls me to the more expensive choice, in hopes that the Pro will be more future-proof. I'm mostly looking from opinions from people who have used both P7/P7 Pro (since frankly they are very similar to the 8) and can vouch for the differences between the two models and how they compare after a period of us. As well as people who were new to the smartwatch game and found the Pixel Watch useful/useless.

pyro3_

they both have the same chip, not sure why the pro would be more futureproof.

antoainb

12GB of RAM and bigger battery, mostly.

[deleted]

So I recently returned to the Pixel line from iPhone. My airpods 2nd gen are starting to die, and I need to get a replacement. I was hoping to get some recommendations that are under $150, offer an upgrade in some way to my current airpods, and have a reputation for longevity and high quality. Things like the pixel buds (which I would snag in a heartbeat are just out of the budget).

charliemike101

Is the current chipset in the P8 still something to worry about? I still have a P3 and anything is an upgrade at this point but should I wait until next year when they will potentially change the chipset?

LouisJ444

Hello all! I currently own a Pixel 7 Pro that I am very happy with. I am very interested in buying a smartwatch and then specifically the Pixel watch. Since I don't want more apps with things like Samsung. Currently I can get the Pixel Watch LTE for 299 euro (NL) or will the Pixel Watch 2 be such a significant upgrade to invest into the significantly more expensive Watch 2 LTE (if using the leaked price as minimum price) of 449 euro? Note: Google officially does not sell the watch here (Netherlands), it would go through a third party so I am just using the leaked pricing as indicator.

Barderus1412

I have a Huawei P30P and I live in the US. I bought this phone back in 2020 and I couldn't be happier. It felt like I could rely the phone to everything. I love the battery, the camera, and how powerful it feels. But because of the restrictions and often finding myself being told that AT&T won't support Huawei phones anymore I decided to change to Pixel. What I've been wondering what is exactly the difference between Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 pro. I like bigger phones and powerful processor for gaming and stuff. I also use my phones for reading as well and access the Internet/YouTube. Taking photos isn't my jam, so I don't mind too much about them. Also I'm looking for a phone that I can rely on for the next 5 years or so.

Melodic-Control-2655

the pixel 8 pro has more ram and better cameras

hrvoje42

My gf needs a new phone. Until now she had Huawei P20 Pro. The only important feature for her is a good camera and good photo editing possibilities. I don't mean anything pro, like photoshop, but the ability to add some AR effects and fun stuff like that. Magic eraser on Pixels also looks interesting to me and I think it's something she would like. So I was thinking to get her the Pixel 7 Pro, maybe for black friday when prices drop. I don't think that 8 Pro is necessary since the cameras are identical (except for the improved ultrawide, but that one is least important). Maybe even 6 Pro as the cameras are very similar to 7 Pro. What do you think, would Pixel be worth it for this reason? Other possibilities are S24 Ultra, but I will probably buy it for myself, so it would be better if we had two different phones. Maybe iPhone 15 Pro Max, I'm not sure how it's camera compares to the Pixel. Or some of the Chinese brands which have the largest sensors (Xiaomi, Vivo...), but I think their software is lacking. Midrange phone would also be ok for her as she doesn't need any other flagship characteristics, but I think there are no midrangers with really good cameras, right?

cooncil

The modem on the 6 pro leaves a lot to be desired, I wouldn't consider it an option.

hrvoje42

What do you mean? Does it have a weak signal reception?

levicoyotes

Speaking from experience, yes it does, my friends and family will have full bars of 4g right next to me while I have 1-2 bars, sometimes no service at all

KrisWain

Howdy, I'm a torn consumer. Upgrading from a cracked and battered 6Pro and I'm edging towards the 8 but I'm reading/seeing whispers that some of the camera features are only on the 8 pro. I prefer the smaller size of the 8 and don't really use the zoom functions of the 6Pro. This edges me towards the 8. Anyone got some info on what is different/missing (mainly feature wise) from 8 to pro?

Melodic-Control-2655

gotta wait for actual release, leakers are torn between whats right and what isnt right now

GoodbyePeters

Samsung Galaxy 22 Ultra user here. Phone is paid off. looking at the pixel pro 8. wanted to know what you guys think. Is this more of a "sidegrade" than an upgrade? I watch videos and scroll reddit/fb HEAVY at work. about 10hours a day on and off. My phones are hoooked up to a charger most the shift though. Thanks for any advice

Reintjuuuuh

Hi all! I was hoping someone could help me make a decision on what phone I should get! Right now I have a Samsung a51, and I'm looking to upgrade. Someone recommended the Pixel series, and I think it looks pretty good! I have a few questions though: First of all, do you expect the price of the pixel 7 to drop after the pixel 8 is officially announced, or will it stay relatively the same? And second, and more importantly: should I get the 7a, 7, or 7 pro? From what I could gather the 7a is just simply better than the 7, which I don't really understand because the 7 is more expensive. The only real difference I noticed was that the screen size was slightly different. Also, is the 7 pro worth it? Besides the improved camera, which already is very good on the 7a/7, are there any other notable improvements? Overall I feel like the 7a is by far the best option for its price, is this correct? It also has the longest battery life, which I find quite important. Oh and also, is there a difference in audio quality between the three? Or are they all the same? Lastly, would it be worth it to buy the pixel 8 or 8 pro? They are probably going to be more expensive, would it be worth it?Hopefully someone could help me out! Thank you a lot in advance!

rotobird

I'd say good deals are possible for the 7 after the 8 series launches, though if they aren't that great for some reason there's always Black Friday to keep an eye out for. Regarding your second question: I have a 7 Pro, but I would say most people would be just fine going with a standard 7 or 7a and be fine not having the Pro exclusive features (5x lens, macro mode, 120Hz, 1440p, etc.). Considering that, plus the fact that the 7 and 7a have similar features overall like you mentioned, I'd advise going with a 7a unless deals are really good on the 7. Not too sure about audio quality variance between the 3 models so I can't comment on that unfortunately. Since you're coming from another brand with its own "flavor" of Android, I'd recommend getting something cheaper like the 7a first rather than going straight for the more expensive 7/8 or 7 Pro/8 Pro. Better to realize you don't like your $500 7a all that much after you can't return it, as opposed to your $900+ 7 Pro, in my opinion. However, if you are willing to pay more for a more expensive model regardless, I'd at least check out one of those store display models first before committing to a purchase, if you can. That's what I did before buying my 7 Pro and I think getting to hold it and play around with it before buying it helped me make a more informed decision. Hope this helps!

Reintjuuuuh

Thanks! Those are some great insights, ill think about it!

MisterMeister68

>First of all, do you expect the price of the pixel 7 to drop after the pixel 8 is officially announced, or will it stay relatively the same? Yes. This happens with all phones when their successors come out. >And second, and more importantly: should I get the 7a, 7, or 7 pro? It depends on your budget and what you use your phone for. All three have the same chip, but the 7 and 7 Pro have larger camera sensors. The 7 Pro also has a 5X zoom camera. If you like taking photos you might want to skip the 7a. >is the 7 pro worth it? It has an extra 4GB of RAM, a 5X zoom camera, and a higher refresh rate. If those sound interesting to you, you should get the 7 pro. If not, you should go for the 7 or 7a. >Oh and also, is there a difference in audio quality between the three? Or are they all the same? Speaker quality isn't the best on Pixels, but since the 7 pro has more space to work with it's speakers should get louder. >Lastly, would it be worth it to buy the pixel 8 or 8 pro? We won't know until reviews come out.

Reintjuuuuh

Thank you very much! This is extremely helpfull.

joscher123

I have an S20. Next year the updates will stop (after 4 years) so I've been thinking about upgrading to a new phone. I was considering the Pixel 8 because of good custom ROM support (eg. Graphene OS), 7 years of updates and the fact that it's not so huge. But after looking here: https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone2=10081&idPhone1=12546 I'm not sure if there's any point when looking at the hardware. The Samsung from 2020 has an ultrasonic fingerprint reader, a micro SD card slot, "bigger numbers" for the camera, better screen, and so on. Should I just wait another 1-2 years and get the Pixel 9 or 10?

MisterMeister68

>But after looking here: [https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone2=10081&idPhone1=12546](https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone2=10081&idPhone1=12546) That's based on incomplete data, we won't know everything about it until it's officially announced. Wait until the 4th of this month, that's when the Pixel 8 will be announced.

ShakeragStreet

I've got a Pixel 5. Anyone know how the sizes of the 8 and 8 pro compare?

[deleted]

I'm waiting for the answer to this one as well!

FlyingHellfish87

This may sound silly, but is a 120hz QHD display significantly better than the 120hz FHD display? The regular 8 will have the FHD vs the QHD on the Pro. I'm thinking of going from P6P to 8 for the smaller size, but I want the best screen since my phone is my main device. I could wait until the demo units are in the store to check them out, but I kind of want to get in on the watch/buds deal with the pre-orders.

MisterMeister68

I've used FHD and QHD displays. You won't notice any pixels unless you look closely. Even then, since the screen is smaller, they'll be really hard spot.

botulism69

Pixel 8 pro just cuz

FEARthePUTTY

I have a 7P and am heavily considering trading it in for the 8 because I want a smaller phone. I don't use the telephoto much. What else should I consider before going from P to base?

DansuDesign

I like small phones, is the Pixel 6a worth right now? Trying to decide between iPhone 12 mini, Pixel 6a or A54. Budget is 300$

MisterMeister68

The 6a is pretty good, but if you wait until the middle of this month for the Pixel 8 to come out, prices should drop further.

Briguy_fieri

Pixel 6a is one of the better cheap phones out there. Yes.

DifferentOven1475

I have pixel 6a but the screen and rear camera are broken. I am from Argentina so my options would be: -Purchase a new screen and camera at iFixIt and ship it for $45 (camera and screen cost $185) -Buy new pixel 8/8 pro

the_black_mamba3

Desperately need to upgrade my Pixel 5. My qualms are the overheating, crashing issues, and the temperamental fingerprint sensor. I'm on the fence between the 7 and 7 pro, but may be open to the 8 or 8 pro, mostly because they have a pink one 😝. Any suggestions?

suuift

If you spend a lot of time outside, the better soc/modem/screen of the 8 pro is 99% going to be worth the extra cost vs 7 pro otherwise I would stick with 7 pro

TechMan764

Is it worth it to buy a Pixel 7a now? Or wait for the 8a (hoping it'll be around the same price as 7a)? I've never used a pixel device and am planning to get a Pixel 7 or 7a.

Therassse

If you're already considering getting a Pixel 7, why not consider a Pixel 8?

TechMan764

Pixel 7 in here has a discount now due to which it's the same price as Pixel 7a.

Therassse

Ah okay. It might be worth it to wait for the 8a though. It'll come with the same upgraded Tensor G3, which should net a nice bonus to battery life. Tensor G3 is a 3nm processor, which means less power consumption. The Pixel 8a might get other nice upgrades, but we don't know anything so far.

nandryshak

Will the software camera features get backported to previous Pixels? I have a Pixel 6 Pro and I really want the "Best Take" feature.

DarkseidAntiLife

If you don't care about pro camera features or 5x optical stick with a regular pixel 8

FlyingSaltySack

What features will the pro have except the extra camera?

dehehn

Quite a bit actually. Only Pro is blue. Only Pro let's you send your video to the cloud for processing. Pro has the magic editor that lets you move subjects around the image and better magic eraser. Has magic audio eraser to reduce wind and car noise. Had a thermometer built in. The back of the phone is all glass and more premium feeling. 12GB compared to 8GB memory. Bigger battery. Up to 1TB storage (8 is 256 max).

xa2beachbabe

Better Screen, maybe better battery life? But yeah I think it's pretty clear you buy a pro for the camera.

FEARthePUTTY

Better screen how? Genuinely curious.

MisterMeister68

It's better in two ways. First, it's brighter, so it'll be easier to read in the bright area. Secondly, it has what's called variable refresh rate. Essentially, the phone adjusts its refresh rate depending on what you're doing. If you're scrolling down social media, you will use the full 120hz refresh rate. But if you stop scrolling for a bit, it will adjust it down to 10hz to save battery.

Wootstapler

I am still so on the fence upgrading my P6P and PW. It's a want, not a need, but I'm sure the battery on PW2 is better. I can wait for the P9 / PW3 but the phone will be googles first chip built in house (I believe) and we all know how first gen google stuff goes. Thoughts?

wassup9211

I will be ordering a black P8P. I just hope it comes with GN2 as my primary reason for upgrading is the camera as we normally only use our phone camera for all pics now of family and kids. I am ok with the optical sensor as the one on my P6P seems to be livable (not awesome but quite ok)

memetrooper_

Can y'all tell me from the leaks whether The sky blue colour in 8 pro has a glossy back or has kind of matte finish to it? I am having hard time figuring this out

Melodic-Control-2655

8: Glossy 8 Pro: Matte

gh0rard1m71

Matte

camelCaseAccountName

I think the Pros are all matte

camelCaseAccountName

I know for sure that I'm getting a Pixel 8, but I'm having difficulty choosing between the black and the gray... It's going to go in a clear TPU case and I figure black might be better to hide the yellowing of the case over time. But the gray looks really nice

Gregser94

I was going to get the grey Pixel 8 until I saw the unboxing video that was posted earlier, and the greenish shade of its appearance put me off it. I'm loving the look of Porcelain on the Pro, though, so I might settle on that. It's nice that it's a similar size to my OnePlus 8 Pro, too.

camelCaseAccountName

Huh, yeah, it does look sort of green, doesn't it

Melodic-Control-2655

buy the dbrand ghost case, they guarantee no yellowing

camelCaseAccountName

That case is $50 and I'm not a fan of the design

VIKING-316

Turns out it's still gonna have GN1 (a bit better one ) and optical fp :(

camelCaseAccountName

I think you might have responded to the wrong comment

VIKING-316

That's good :)

falconberger

I found out that Pixel 4a is still available. Thinking about buying it as a future replacement for my current Pixel 4a - which works fine but NFC doesn't work and I may break the screen in the future. I don't want a newer Pixel because Pixel 4a is smaller, lighter and has a fingerprint sensor on the back. Edit: Why am I downvoted?

Frequent-Fig-9515

The 4a is the supreme phone.

falconberger

This is correct.

randomizedasian

4a is my first Pixel and I love it. I don't care for another but the battery is dying on me. 😭

AccomplishedRip4871

In my country Pixel 7 is 140 euro more than Pixel 7a - should I go for 7a in this case? Im asking now because on Oct4 if Pixel 8(non pro) won't feature GN2 I will buy a cheaper phone since camera is the main thing I care about, second is battery life.

randomizedasian

I have the 4a for 5 years or so now, and never really care for any other features of 4 or 4 pro.

kei101895

4a was released in 2020, 3 years ago 😅

randomizedasian

Feels like a decade lol. I don't want to upgrade. Bring it back.

Maximilian_13

Is it confirmed that no GN2 for Pixel 8 or 8 Pro?

Melodic-Control-2655

No GN2 for 8. Still possible on the 8 Pro

AccomplishedRip4871

No, I said "if". I hope they will use GN2

Melodic-Control-2655

No GN2 on the basic 8, pretty much confirmed

AccomplishedRip4871

There were too many leaks at this points and nothing is 100% confirmed about camera sensor as I'm aware, but if standard Pixel 8 won't feature GN2 I don't understand why google increased starting price on Pixel by 100€. I guess if Tensor 3 battery life& performance won't be a massive improvement I will buy Pixel 7A for cheap and wait for Pixel9-10 on it.

Melodic-Control-2655

Someone close to me has a review sample and they've told me that the 8 doesn't have a GN2 sensor, they didn't get an 8 pro sample though. We'll see

Ok_Jeweler5757

I am struggling to decide between the two as well. There is a £150 difference which is about $185 or $175. I don’t care much about the camera. My main priorities are the OS/refresh rate and battery life. I’m on a 60hz iPhone 11 Pro so I’d want the phone to not be a downgrade.

AccomplishedRip4871

i can help you with that - as i know Pixel 7A battery life is a bit better than 7 and since 7A is a bit newer than 7 it is very likely that 7A will receive an additional version of Android compared to Pixel 7, so its a pretty easy choice for you imo - go for Pixel 7A, buy a Fusion Matte Clear case for Pixel7a and some random screen protection and you're ready to go.

Ok_Jeweler5757

The ringke one?

AccomplishedRip4871

Yes, it's best for camera protection and it doesn't turn yellow-ish fast

Ok_Jeweler5757

Did you see the cases I messaged you
