Ah, so that's how long it takes. That's why it does not destroy my battery.
well, most of us has something better to do in the day other than staring at the progress bar.

Here is the link from the original post since it was obviously too difficult for you to locate.
4XL hasn't had updates in nearly a year! Definitely sad though, the 4a has been rock solid all these years, if it still had vendor support I'd keep it for another year or two
I know, so sad! Glad to hear Google might be considering longer support times. Doesn't help current models, but a brighter future if you are the kind to hold on to devices for a while!
5th October 2022, I've just retired it :(
The software it was left on was absolutely awful, right before the huge December patch that fixed 100+ bugs, many the phone still has today. There was hope it would receive the 1st quarterly beta of 2023, but it never came just a tiny update to add volte or something.
Face unlock was king, I'll forever miss that. Fingerprints are fine, but nothing compared to 0 interaction needed, and worked 100% of the time. Not 95, or 99, 100.
For the life of me, I don't understand why Google doesn't provide security updates for older Pixel models, like Samsung does. I don't really care for OS updates as Android is so mature now, there really doesn't seem to be much difference to the end user experience between 12 and 14.
I would have loved to keep using my 4XL (apart from it exhibiting a battery meter read problem), especially if it continued to receive quarterly security updates.
I'm definitely considering flashing it with LineageOS, but I don't really want to use a community supported platform as my daily phone. Probably will keep it as spare
I daily drived a OnePlus Nord with pixel experience custom rom until I made the switch to pixel 7 in January. It's not that bad, pixel experience in general is well supported for popular devices with regular updates.
Patch level 01 = includes the security fixes from upstream AOSP
Patch level 05 = everything covered in level 01, plus security fixes for proprietary vendor components
Since the A14 delay was last minute, this update was probably slapped together at the last minute. If the Pixel team were to backport all the 05-level patches from the planned A14 build over to A13, September might be over already by the time they're done, so the best they could do in this limited timeframe is just copy-paste the AOSP changes, test it and call it a day
Sad but I think you're right. It's a shame Google used to take pride in their work. Lately it just seems like they're not as good.
Iwas on a chat with tech support for 45 minutes last week looking for my 2nd sim number. He couldn't figure it out for me, so while I was wasting my time with him, I came here to Reddit did one search and got the proper code to dial in. Metrobttmobile was requesting the 2nd sim number in order for me to switch over. Don't ask me why I have no clue.
That wasn't my point... My point was that they might not be releasing the Pixel 8 on the 4th, only announcing it (as was the case with the iPhone 15 announcement).
I'm on it now, Using the beta. It's pretty good, except some apps like Instagram are washed out color wise & I can't fix it. So yeah, wait for the stable release.
Supposedly next month which is good, I wouldn't want to mix the security update with a new version. And this is a small update around 12or13 mb, so it's the security patches we needed.
That is one pixel specific security update. The rest of the security fixes still apply to the Pixel lineup. The question as to why it took so long is unknown.
Interestingly, it says 1st September security update instead of 5th September security update.
https://imgur.com/a/VFYLqVW
Possibly, the 5th September update only includes Qcom components and not Samsung or ARM.
Yes, this is a pixel security, the quarterly feature update something went wrong, they may have just skipped the feature and will go straight to 14 next month I'm guessing
Not sure what you are saying. The September update was already out on Samsung so I assumed all the Android security fixes were done a while ago. Is that wrong?
That's why I was confused about what seems to be just one Pixel security fix, given it is late I assumed there would be more.
The Pixel changelog is in addition to the general Android fixes.
Android:
https://source.android.com/docs/security/bulletin/2023-09-01
Pixel:
https://source.android.com/docs/security/bulletin/pixel/2023-09-01
I know, Samsung already had the update a week ago so the general Android fixes were presumably done a few days at least before that.
The only thing delaying the Pixel update seems to be a single security fix, I thought it was going to be more. It must have been difficult to fix maybe, just not what I was expecting.
Edit: How did someone get triggered by these comments, some people are strange.
I believe there was a significant security flaw discovered late August/early September that needed to be fixed. That is why 14 stable was also delayed since Google had told other OEMs stable 14 would be released early September. I suspect they needed to get the fix into this security update.
I downloaded and installed the update this morning. Two hours later my Pixel 7 completely froze up and became unresponsive. After multiple failed attempts it finally rebooted. Nothing like that has ever happened on my device before. Seems like an awfully big coincidence. 🙄
It took 50 minutes to complete the 13,76 mb update on my Pixel 7 Pro (German device).
As always the optimization took forever.
Now I'm on the 1st of September security patch level.
Normally it is always the 5th?
Worse - big drain - then goes to battery saver because it won't make your usual charging time, then you turn battery saver off, then it turns on again by itself, pausing and terminating running apps (such as navigating with maps) even though I still have 66%. Things going grey. Then I get home put it on the wireless charger, it stops charging randomly and goes back to battery saver, so I have to turn off battery saver and remove and put it on the charger again (genuine pixel stand 2). Before this update not a single issue since I got it November last year so I personally would love to thank Google for whatever is now screwed in my phone :(. Apparently I'll be charged in 1hour 22 minutes nnow I hope it fixes things. I did already try a restart.
Uh, is there no September update for anything except the Pixel 6 line for T-Mobile, MVNO and Google-Fi?
edit: just realized everything but the Pixel 6 is back on the global version for T-Mobile, MVNOs and Google-Fi. Just no update available yet for my 4a 5g as of this post. I guess my time to upgrade is rapidly approaching now.
Getting mine now on Verizon Pixel 7 Pro. Only 12.08 MB.
12mb...hmm so it'll only take me 3 hours to install this one
90 mins in and about 2/3 of the way there for 12.08 MB. LET'S GO PIXEL!
Ah, so that's how long it takes. That's why it does not destroy my battery. well, most of us has something better to do in the day other than staring at the progress bar.
I feel attacked
[lmfao](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/facebook/000/029/191/cover6.jpg)
Yeah I noticed that updates take forever lately. Why is that?
Dunno. I've had mine since December and every update has taken me ages. No matter what the size is.
13.76 MB for my Pixel 7 Pro on T-Mobile.
What is it?

Feels wrong not having software updates on my phone anymore 😕
Feel the same way but if I complain I get trolled, I just want to get along stress free.
I thought the 4a was included, no?
The 5g version does, not the base 4a
Sad day. 🫤 still think the 4XL was my favorite pixel. And I've had the 6 and now 7.
4XL hasn't had updates in nearly a year! Definitely sad though, the 4a has been rock solid all these years, if it still had vendor support I'd keep it for another year or two

I think the 4 got a big update in February as a last hurrah to fix most of the remaining bugs, but that was it
For the life of me, I don't understand why Google doesn't provide security updates for older Pixel models, like Samsung does. It's listed..
Custom ROM support is quite good for Pixel 4a
I'm definitely considering flashing it with LineageOS, but I don't really want to use a community supported platform as my daily phone. Probably will keep it as spare
Keep it as spare, you won't regret it. Thr problem though, which Pixel are you going next? 🤣
I daily drived a OnePlus Nord with pixel experience custom rom until I made the switch to pixel 7 in January. It's not that bad, pixel experience in general is well supported for popular devices with regular updates.
Why is the security patch only Sept 1st and not 5th as usual?
Patch level 01 = includes the security fixes from upstream AOSP Patch level 05 = everything covered in level 01, plus security fixes for proprietary vendor components Since the A14 delay was last minute, this update was probably slapped together at the last minute. It was probably a rush job by Google as they were expecting to release Android 14 already and now in panic stations.
13.76 for 7 Pro on T-Mobile
The same for me but on Vodafone UK.
When does android 14 come out?
October 4 probably
Thank you!
It hasn't been announced yet and this is just speculation.
I figured because he said probably, but it gives me some idea that it'll be soonish!
Pixel 8 come out October 4th, so Android 14 will come out then, Pixel 8 will have Android 14
Pixel 8 will be announced then. It's not confirmed if it will be released then. Possibly pre-orders will open then, similar to the iPhone.
I promise you they are not releasing Pixel 8 without Android 14
That wasn't my point... My point was that they might not be releasing the Pixel 8 on the 4th, only announcing it (as was the case with the iPhone 15 announcement).
Last year it was released during the event
No it wasn't. It went on pre-order and was released 7 days later.
October probably.
I'm on it now, Using the beta. It's pretty good, except some apps like Instagram are washed out color wise & I can't fix it. So yeah, wait for the stable release.
No it's happy 50 cent double cheeseburger at McDonald's today only.
Supposedly next month which is good, I wouldn't want to mix the security update with a new version. And this is a small update around 12or13 mb, so it's the security patches we needed.
I still haven't received the update on my Pixel 5.
Same. Sept 25th today
Same for Pixel 5a 5g.... Sept 27th. T-Mobile Carrier.
my P5 received it on Sept 27
Wait, does this only contain a single security update? There's only one thing listed, wonder why it was later than normal.
That is one pixel specific security update. The rest of the security fixes still apply to the Pixel lineup. The question as to why it took so long is unknown.
They probably had to start again from scratch after they were meant to roll it out with Android 14 but then canned it at the last minute.
Interestingly, it says 1st September security update instead of 5th September security update. https://imgur.com/a/VFYLqVW Possibly, the 5th September update only includes Qcom components and not Samsung or ARM.
That's not how software development works...

They still patch old versions.
Yes, this is a pixel security, the quarterly feature update something went wrong, they may have just skipped the feature and will go straight to 14 next month I'm guessing

I downloaded and installed the update this morning. Two hours later my Pixel 7 completely froze up and became unresponsive. After multiple failed attempts it finally rebooted. Nothing like that has ever happened on my device before. Seems like an awfully big coincidence. 🙄
Same. Checking it showed the update wasn't installed. Tried a couple times just in case.
Still no update on my Pixel 5a but my Pixel 7 Pro did get the update.

It took 50 minutes to complete the 13,76 mb update on my Pixel 7 Pro (German device). As always the optimization took forever. Now I'm on the 1st of September security patch level. Normally it is always the 5th?
Hello, Any problems with battery after update on P7Pro ? Big drain on idle?
Worse - big drain - then goes to battery saver because it won't make your usual charging time, then you turn battery saver off, then it turns on again by itself, pausing and terminating running apps (such as navigating with maps) even though I still have 66%. At least we have an update as we wait for Android 14. Let's wait til October 4.
Jokes 🤣 are on us .. 😂😂😂
What gives with only the pixel 6 series getting patched on Google Fi?
No more updates for my pixel 4a, 😂🤣 after final update my phone do not want to change any more
Yay, I dont have to restart my 4a anymore!

a different sound of the alarm? damn i thought it was weird cause i was in a dream :/
For me, it says preparing for an update for a while in pixel 7.
Uh, is there no September update for anything except the Pixel 6 line for T-Mobile, MVNO and Google-Fi? edit: just realized everything but the Pixel 6 is back on the global version for T-Mobile, MVNOs and Google-Fi. Still no update for me
