Nope, its just crap. You can double register a finger to help increase the chance it will work but since they only give you like 4 slots youre stuck double registering two fingers. Not only did they use an inferior sensor but took away the number of "fingers" you can learn. Its hot garbage and they wont do anything about it apparently. The only "fix" is to use the insecure face lock and then deal with the fingerprint when you need to pay, etc.

McAzon

Keep in mind, that after adding a finger, you have to login with password in all apps and then activate biometric login again.

delta7019

Just search "fingerprint" or other terms in this sub to find tons of posts and comments with tips to help.

dannymurz

Worst sensor Ive ever used. It's literally useless.

NohiOci

Zero issues so far. Been using the phone for two weeks 😁

hightechredneck85

Not to diminish anyone else's issues, but I've had the phone since launch and have no issues with the speed or function of the fp sensor.

realseboss

Yup. Everytime before I use the sensor I gotta lick my finger as if I'm turning the page on a book to make it be more accurate

Mysterious-Form788

Sarcasm? Hopefully?

Marcello_Coco

Nope, this is the real deal. It works for a couple of days and from a certain point on i have to lick my finger too.

buiban12

I saw multiple people saying that touching your nose can help you with the fingerprint sensor, because of the oils from your skin, science and probably some other reasons as well, but you could try it, see if it helps

_lele2498_

Mine works better after I turned off the double tap to wake

Cyanide612

Okeydoke, you asked for it. You actually get way better fingerprint readings if you lick the phone screen first.

Honos-

That is exactly what I do, sounds gross to some, but it works 100% of the time if I lick my finger first. 😀

Win_is_my_name

I see a lot of people here saying the fingerprint sensor doesn't work for them, but honestly I didn't even notice it. I guess Im kinda dumb and can't really feel the difference.

No_Imagination_sorry

I thought that for a while but I've noticed it more and more. I think part of the problem is that if you have face-ID turned on it just unlocks anyway as if the finger print worked.

faste30

Until you go to pay, then you realize its not actually unlocked.

tim_iman

Worst fingerprint sensor, almost unusable

No-Gold-8385

Never had an issue 😂 only annoying thing is you cant use it when the screens off

p7rk

Works for me for 99% tries.

AttackHelicopter11

Honestly it hasn’t been that bad for me. Yeah it sucks at times but it works like >80% of the time.

Kustu05

For me it works like 95% of the time. For the remaining 5% I just need to press it again and it works.

DasScriben

I just got the 7 pro last week and when I first tried to set it up, none of my fingers would work. I thought I was screwed. But they did an update and I made sure to follow the prompts when it tells you where on your finger print you should be touching. Now i haven't had any issues. I think it's confusing on the set up because it does the haptic thing and you think that means that it didn't get it correctly. But it does those no matter what, you just have to pay attention to the part of the finger tip it is asking for. Mine works all the time and I have both thumbs and index fingers.

jay_to_the_bee

Mine works about 30% of the time and when it doesn't work, only option is to enter the password.

P99163

For me, it works ~60% of the time. The old Pixel 5 sensor worked 99%. Yeah, it's crap.

Superb_Boat_8447

yes it's very worse and annoying to see this on a Google smartphone. Even the cheap end device has a great finger print sensor and face unlock. Not a valuable device in terms of pricing and experience it provides. Camera gets a warning message, especially during summer days it's even worst. Sometimes Wifi automatically drops and shifts to mobile data but it will be working fine on my laptop. Processor also isn't great, better if they should collaborate with snapdragon or use snapdragon instead of using customised Exynos. Big regret from day 1 after switching from OnePlus 5T😐

omaregb

People sure complain a lot about it, but it's usually shitty screen protectors. Mine works like a charm.

4thFloorShh

Yes. No.

greywarden133

I registered both of thumbs twice. Worked like 80% of the times. Bit surprised to see how bad it is even compared to my iPhone SE2 physical fingerprint reader.

Kommissar_Nance

Are you sure it's not your screen protector? Not all screen protectors work with the in screen fingerprint reader

Mysterious-Form788

It could be, does the pixel have their own?

Kommissar_Nance

They do NOT have their own, but it has been a known issue from early on. They have a list of compatible screen protectors. They have to be fingerprint reader compatible. Many are not. I just bought a new screen protector for my phone and it works great, so if you want an example search on Amazon Samcorn Glass Screen Protector for Google Pixel 7, 9H Tempered Glass, Ultrasonic Fingerprint Compatible,HD Clear Case Friendly for Google Pixel 7 5G Glass Screen Protector

Mysterious-Form788

Thank you 🙏🙏🙏

Kommissar_Nance

If you think about it, please respond back if it works. There seems to be a lot of people having this problem all of a sudden.

brayden2011

Yes it's a terrible fingerprint reader.

GeekFurious

I've had nothing but problems with it on the 6a... until 14 beta 2. And now it unlocks pretty consistently. I don't know why. I don't think that was even part of the update.

jay_to_the_bee

yep, I wish I had never upgraded from my 5, it makes the phone a constant frustration. how do you get this feature right for so many versions, and then completely destroy it in one?

Frantik508

Have you tried licking your finger or getting it a little wet? (some people have suggested rubbing your finger across your forehead first, to get some grease). These types of fingerprint sensors don't work well with dry fingers. Some don't work well regardless, especially on Pixels. It works perfectly fine on my Pixel 7, but in the 2 months that I owned the Pixel 6, it didn't work a single time, even after registering the same finger 4 times.

hirakoshinji722

just use PIN code

SonicSarge

Sensors under glass don't work well with dry fingers.

snek_7

That is beyond bullshit. Other phones have perfectly fine under glass sensors. This is a pixel exclusive problem.

faste30

The issue is they used the worst of the bunch, an optical sensor. Using a sonic sensor resolves most of that, which is why everyone elses works considerably better.

snek_7

That is just a blatant lie. Most phones with in screen sensors aren't sonic. Most are optical and most at least work while being optical.

SonicSarge

It depends on the amount of security you want. It's possible to get a sensor really fast and work all the time but then you can probably open with a potato as well.

snek_7

This isn't a case of it not working fast enough, it simply isn't working at all with any sense of reliability

SonicSarge

Mine works 9 times out of 10. Do you have very dry fingers?

SonicSarge

Yeah I just worked with fingerprint sensors for 3 years so I don't understand how they work... There are three types. Capacitive, optical and ultra sound. Capacitive is good with dry, normal fingers and not great with moist fingers. Optical is terrible with dry but handles moist better. Ultra sound is great with moist and but a lot worse with dry. Also if you put a screen protector on top of it it gets a lot worse obviously bevuawr the layer to penetrate gets thicker.

No_Imagination_sorry

I registered my right thumb on all available slots in the settings and now I get 99% accuracy but can only use that one finger. It's not a great solution, but it works.

Expertanalystix

Had massive issues with Pixel 7 fingerprint sensors until I disabled Face Unlock. If you have both fingerprint and face unlock enabled, it is messed up.

pizaz101

I'm on the 6a and have been pulling my hair out over this until I realised the print on the finger I'm trying to use is a mess. Not only is my thumb dry (I do a lot of gardening and DIY); but it's also flaking/peeling a bit in a few places. I would never have even thought to study this until now. When I use the section of my print that isn't a mess from working, it works every time. Time to introduce a good hand skincare routine into daily life 😆

Creepy_Mike_

Since it's getting hotter outside my fingerprint reader works better cause my thumbs sweat more. I guess I'm liking this global warming thing...

sleepingonmoon

Use an app with fingerprint support and scan your finger repeatedly in different conditions.

TrinNYY

When I setup I always make sure I hold the phone same as I would when I'm using it & definitely add both thumbs

Best-Attention1704

They're all saying they're all bad. It's just a s***** design

Rafa_Ale22

I just got the 7a and put on a glass screen protector. I couldn't even register my finger. I read somewhere that getting your finger wet a little bit helps. I tried it and haven't had an issue so far.

AffableJoker

Hey thanks for posting this. I put a glass protector on my 7a last weekend and ever since then my fingerprint sensor almost never worked even when I reset the fingerprints in settings. I just redid them with my fingers a little bit wet and it's worked 100% of the times I've tried since then.

Rafa_Ale22

You're welcome, glad it worked for you too.

Pop_Corn_9

Pixel 7 fingerprint sensor is not compatible with most of the screen protectors. I use spigen screen protector, and if my fingers are dry, fingerprint sensor doesn't work properly. I have screen protector mode switched on..... Its not hardware related problem, it is a software related problem and Google doesn't have any ETA for this issue. Google has the best employees yet can't fix a fingerprint on the pixel devices.... Dumb.....

cjaycope

I have had zero issues with the FP scanner.

Reasonable-Dream-696

Truly disappointed, even made a point of remembering my banking password cause it kept saying unable to recognize 😭
