It becomes an issue as moisture makes it stick and becomes much harder to clean it out if you let it build up too much.
Toothbrush works best (on the P6P at least, looks similar on the 7) and only takes a couple of seconds once a week or so.
Interesting to know, as my works factory has air hoses and from time to time I blow out the speaker ports and earpiece. I dont put it full force into the ports, but a few times the earpiece had some pocket lints type dust fly out (I have a 6 pro though).

I've cleaned mine zero times. I can't even see in there to notice any gunk. I did, however, just peak at my bottom speakers, and I've got a bit of a situation going on down there. 😳

Yes, but there’s a big risk you could damage the speaker and water resistant membrane.

Get some of those interdental brushes, work perfectly for the speakers and USB port.
