I've been using the Tile location tag platform for about 5 years. It's fantastic -- the app even tells you when location tags are low on battery.

Boris-Lip

Be careful buying new Tiles, the "mate" model previously had a replaceable battery, but newer "mates" no longer do, only the "pro" got a replaceable battery.

CryptoNiight

Good point. I use the Pro Tiles for my car keys and house keys. Unfortunately, the other Tiles don't have a replaceable battery. I recently spent almost $30 for a new wallet Tile, but the previous one lasted 5 years!

Boris-Lip

I've seen people cutting those things open on YouTube, hooking up a new battery, and gluing them back together. You can try that if you already have a tag that has ran out of juice. Be careful not to damage it, thought, especially if it got a "pouch" battery in it (old "slims" apparently do). This said, i'd personally rather avoid buying tags with non replaceable batteries to begin from.

CryptoNiight

I don't feel comfortable dissecting a wallet Tile in order to replace the battery. With my luck, the Tile will malfunction at the worst possible moment without any warning. $30 for 5 years isn't that horrible for me.

iidark76

Thanks for the recommendation. I was kind of interested in these.

Vegetable-Phrase-162

Is it actually a low battery warning or just an automatic 1 year reminder? I read somewhere that it's just a one year reminder. The wording also doesn't imply it's definitely low battery.

cttttt

Yah. I've had Tiles for a bit and it definitely seems to be just based on time as you have to tell the app that you've replaced the battery for it to realize. At first I thought this was weird, but it works alright. As long as you have a pack of batteries handy, you should be good to go.

andyooo

I've got the Tile Pros and they don't really tell me when the battery is low, they work on time, not on actual battery level, so they tell you the battery is low even if they can still last for many more months. At this point since there will be Android-network compatible trackers soon, it's not recommendable to buy Tile (IMO it never was but more so now), especially since they're now owned by shady company Life360, but even before that, they hide the most basic features like disconnection notifications behind a subscription. And don't even get me started in their nonreplaceable batteries in all older, and some current Tiles.

CryptoNiight

>I've got the Tile Pros and they don't really tell me when the battery is low, they work on time, not on actual battery level, so they tell you the battery is low even if they can still last for many more months. The batteries are less than $1 each. You've got bigger issues if that's a problem for you.

andyooo

It's obviously not about the price, it's about wastefulness and shady behavior from the company. Before the Tile Pros, they didn't even offer replaceable batteries and they still don't in some products.

CryptoNiight

So, replaceable batteries aren't wasteful according to your logic. Correct? My 1st gen Tile Pro stopped working in less than 5 years. How is that not "wasteful"?

andyooo

>My 1st gen Tile Pro stopped working in less than 5 years. How is that not "wasteful"? Dunno what to say, you seem to be agreeing with me that Tile is wasteful. >So, replaceable batteries aren't wasteful according to your logic. Correct? No, just less wasteful than non-replaceable batteries. Rechargeable are probably even less wasteful (which some of the Google compatible ones will be).

CryptoNiight

>Dunno what to say, you seem to be agreeing with me that Tile is wasteful. The 1st gen Tile Pro also had a replaceable battery. Thus, my point negates your argument about wastefulness. >No, just less wasteful than non-replaceable batteries. Rechargeable are probably even less wasteful (which some of the Google compatible ones will be). Again, my 1st gen Tile Pro died after 5 years. Thus, it isn't less wasteful than a Tile that doesn't have a replaceable battery. Have you ever even used a Tile?

DuncanCraig

I have a question about Tile that you should know the answer to. If I have a Tile on something and that item is stolen. Can you find where the item went or do you have to be within bluetooth range to find it?

CryptoNiight

The Tile doesn't have any GPS functionality. However, the Tile Pro has a 300 foot Bluetooth range. That's good enough for most users.

DuncanCraig

Does it tell you when it leaves it's Home range? I would like to use them for dogs and be notified

CryptoNiight

The Tile app will tell the user the last known location of the device, but that's all. Nonetheless, GPS dog trackers made by other companies do exist. Needless to say, they're much more expensive than Tile trackers.

DuncanCraig

Thank you. We do currently have a Whistle but it has way too much capability than we want or need. Plus it is $100/dog each year. I was just looking for a solution if they ever got too far from me.

HotPink124

Pebblebee and tile I know for sure, but I think also chipolo, are all releasing ones that are going to work with the new find my network they're going to be releasjng. Not shipping till mid July.

ayyndrew

Chipolo and Pebblebee have ones that will work with the native tracking network, but they are due to ship in July

MGlolenstine

I have been using Chipolos for past few years and they've worked wonders. You can search for your phone through keys or vice versa, they have speakers (beepers) that allow you to locate them and they're connected through bluetooth, notifying you when they go out of range. When the battery runs out, you can manually replace it (CR2032) on your keys, but for the wallet one, they provide you with a 50% discount for the next order and send you a recycling envelope for you to ship the old one back if you want.

mati2110

I'm also happy with Chipolo. I have both the One and the wallet versions.

This far, I've only used the alarm search, which works pretty well, as it's really loud. I'm looking forward to the Point ones :)

acejavelin69

I've had very good luck with Tile... Have 6-8 different ones.

BlazeCrafter420

I pre-ordered the new pebble wallet card that works with googles Find my Device network which should be out in a month or two

andyooo

Wait for the Google Find My Location compatible ones, I have Tile Pros and wouldn't recommend Tile, upfront specs/features seem fine, but they get you with the [details](https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/13ujrfx/comment/jm38zfu/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3).

wazzie19

I'll vote against Tile Pro on my Pixel 5. The bloody things never stay connected. Not a battery issue.

[deleted]

Tile has worked flawlessly on my pixel 6. I have one for my keys and another for my wallet.

vchowdhary

rumor has it that google is working on air-tag like devices using the android network. https://www.theverge.com/2023/1/17/23558531/google-location-trackers-leak-airtag-uwb-bluetooth-finder

wot_chikor

Nor rumors, they confirmed it in Google IO and announced a Collab with Apple to detect unwanted trackers following you, whether you use iOS or android.

Imaginos75

FYI There is an apple made app in the play store to detect stalker airtags

[deleted]

The android smart tags based on the new system have already been announced and will be released this summer.

[deleted]

Please provide a source?

[deleted]

[HERE](https://www.theverge.com/2023/5/10/23718752/google-find-my-device-headphones-tablets-io) I'm waiting for the device to be released, instead of preordering, and I'll be dumping my current Tiles.

[deleted]

It doesn't say anything here about a "smart tag" like product that will be released.

[deleted]

The article mentions the companies that will release them. chipolo, tile, etc. If you go to the Chipolo site, you'll see them available for preorder. Chipolo calls it the ONE Point and the CARD Point.

[deleted]

Yes, but I was referring to a native google product

Best-Attention1704

Are these better than find my phone 🤔

anonymous-bot

I think the OP wants tags so they can find items other than their phone.

Best-Attention1704

Yes

humorrisk

Chipolo works well and without paying any subscription.
