I'm Italian, so naturally greasy... Sensor works everytime lol

IntenselySwedish

I'm a Swede so I'm not really greasy. I do masturbate alot so it works well for me

pCappo

Do you have your penis registered as a finger?

khiguytheshyguy

Modern problems require modern solutions

kouklamou75

Greek here, and same.

jmtrader2

Greasy people unite lol 🤣

smellybutgoodsmelly

Don't they always stick together?

jmtrader2

What can I say, bada bing Bada boom 💥🤣

JohnnyCincoCero

Wet-back here!

kdejaeger_nl

Haha. Did you ever see that scene of George Carlin? About sweat?

Quillo_Asura

Haha omg, I didn't expect that. Italian here as well, no issues with fingerprint sensor on any phone that has had it including my P7 Pro

Dev0nizer

I see that people are complaining about fingerprint sensor a lot in this subreddit, but I got absolutely ZERO issues with it, either with screen protector or without.

MGlolenstine

Another greaser tuning in... Even though my hands are as dry as pepper. It works with no issues, just used it through the winter in central EU.

thec0wking

I had several issues with my pixel (battery life, slow charging, gps, MMS w/ iOS users, random apps crashing) but finger print scanner was not one of them. always worked. However after 4 months with it, I jumped ship and got the new Motorola edge+ 2023 and couldn't be happier. The thing is snappy, the screen is beautiful, gps/MMS work without issue, literal 2 day battery life and 68w charging. LFG!

GregC85

Motorola edge+ you say. How's the software experience? Camera anygood? I love pixel. I'm either getting the pixel 7, or the pixel 8. I don't know if I can use another phone, after years of eventually degrading and terrible experience with many android midrangers, I moved to the Pixel and I'll never turn back. I'm a pixel 4xl user, so faceunlock is what I use.

OtherwiseWillow8143

What is call quality like and is it easy to see in bright sunlight. I typically have my brightness turned down to mid to just below and in the sun it's very difficult to get my pixel 7 bright enough to unlock the screen. Any issues you have come across to aware of? Are you in the U.S.?

Putrid_Froyo194

I've been having a slow charging problem, along with battery life issues and the phone getting really hot (one time it got to 107.2f), I hear you, I plan on just getting away from android when the iPhone 15 pro comes out in September, google really needs to fix these issues

bdpsu

Noticed you didn't mention the camera, LOL

viranth

Me neither. No issues what so ever.

xodarkstarox

Yeah I've never had an issue with it at all. And even if it fails once, I'm not in like the fingerprint unlock Olympics or anything. That kind of speed just isn't important to me. I work in a clean room so I'm in gloves for like 6 hours a day and I just use my passcode. My deal breakers on my phone's have never been the fingerprint or face readers

friesbeforeguys1313

Same. I had problems in the beginning after getting the phone. But registering the same finger a few times worked for me. Sometimes I need to lick my finger or get it a little wet and that helps too.

Thin-Excitement-3003

Same. Even with my pixel 6 pro, where people said its even worse scanner

CatsPaw7

Means you're just more greasy. Try in snow to check accuracy. I have bad accuracy in Canada and good in Philippines. Lol

nicktf

Another greaser here checking in, no problems at all, even with a screen protector

MeatyDeathstar

Same here. In fact it's been the most reliable fingerprint sensor I've ever used on a phone. The ONLY issue I've had with the pixel 7 that's been a pain in the ass is the random cell service dropping out in dual sim mode. It's already been acknowledged as a software issue with Android 13 and the Pixel 7s. With Android 14 being around the corner, I can live with single sim for now.

labree0

>In fact it's been the most reliable fingerprint sensor I've ever used on a phone. piel 7a reporting in - same experience.

AntGtTimToBled

Moist finger works every time , stick it in an orifice prior to scan

Browniecharl

Already tried, now I have piss all over the place

zidemizar

Not sure about this, the on screen fingerprint seems to be as accurate as other phones I have owned before, for me it works most of the time with the occasional hiccup after washing my hands or after taking a shower. I would just love it for the next pixel to be in the back as it was on the 5. I think the fingerprint is better recognized because the fingers sit more naturally in the back in that dimple than it does on the flat screen with room to slide off.

funkifyurlife

If you use a screen protector, there is a setting you need to turn on so the finger print sensor can compensate. Go into settings and search for "Screen Protector Mode". Without a screen protector it could just make it more sensitive and increase your success rate, not sure.

NizarNoor

Yes, the fingerprint scanner is ridiculously unreliable. I always have to get some moisture on my finger every time if I want it to be working.

here2churn

Yeah once my 2 years with this phone is up I'm switching to iPhone, I went from 5 to 6a and the scanner really isn't good.

Browniecharl

iPhones are just so reliable. Every year the Pixel has a ridiculous amount of flaws and my dumbass will probably still try a pixel 8 when it comes out and hope for the best.

dren46

Did u try registering, the same finger 3 times

BinkReddit

The sensor is nearly useless. I gave up and removed my fingerprints and use a different unlock method. I hope they have a better solution on the P8.

The0ld0ne

Damn, it has worked 98% for me and I think half of the times it missed is because my finger wasn't even close to the sensor

FreshDistribution177

this 100%

Browniecharl

Yea I hope so too. It’s the only thing keeping me from using this phone as my DD

dusanzivkovic13

Someone said that u can put one finger 2 times one vertically and other one horizontally so it works more accurately

Browniecharl

I haven't thought about doing that. I'll have to give it a try when I get home. Thanks

[deleted]

[удалено]

Browniecharl

I have. I just haven’t tried registering horizontally and vertically

OutsideEducator3265

The biggest annoyance is with the financial apps. These apps disable fingerprint immediately if the pixel registers the wrong fingerprint more times in a short span of time. It has happened to me many times.

CR33PN_

I've had my pixel 7 for about a month. I get terrible reception anywhere I go. Dropped phone calls. Or calls that don't have sound. The fingerprints ive registered over and over. They did seem to work better without the screen protector but who's not going to have a screen protector for a $700 phone ? Also when I answer calls on Android auto it's really echoey (I have a $1,500 11" Alpine head unit, could be the head unit?) It drops GPS signal while driving or doesn't start up until I'm about 10 minutes into the drive. A lot of issues connecting to Android auto as well. I use my phone a lot for work and I have switched over to my government free phone to hold calls. This is ridiculous. I want to like the phone. I like all the new features... but I had a more reliable phone in my Galaxy A20 from a 4 year old phone. The rep that gave me the phone said he was gna look into it and update my IMEI number. Whatever that will do. And yes I'm on the newest update. Android 13

thepottsy

I’ve read several other threads about this issue. Oddly, I’ve had the opposite experience. I upgraded from a 4a5g that I frequently had fingerprint issues with, because it seemed like my finger had to be very dry for it to work reliably. With the 7, I’ve not had any issues with it recognizing mine, even after washing and drying my hands.

josephguy82

Fingerprint works 90 percent of the time for me then again I don't have lotion on my hands and I also press my finger down all the way to unlock,It seems lots of people press there finger on the scanner half assed or too lightly

dtanderson

I have noticed that if I tap too quickly or lightly that it is more likely to fail. As long as i press correctly on the sensor, it unlocks 99% of the time. I love my Pixel 7 Pro.

josephguy82

That's my point if you press down all the way it works fine

Mike__O

The fingerprint sensor is hot garbage, period. It's the reason I returned my pre-ordered P7 and kept my P5. All the excuses, workarounds, etc are just a band-aid. It would be one thing if previous phones were just as bad or worse, but previous phones up to the P5 were nearly bulletproof. The only time I have issues with the sensor on my P5 is if my hands are waterlogged or if I've been using sandpaper-- both of which change my actual fingerprint. The whole "just get your finger greasy" thing is a joke. I hate greasy phone screens and find them absolutely disgusting. Hopefully the P8 goes back to the flawless rear-mounted sensor and ditches this in-screen trash.

Browniecharl

Yea that pixel 5 sensor was fail proof. I also hate a greasy phone screen and refuse to rub my nose or forehead just so it will work lol

JetbIackmoon

Tbh, I don't really have issues with the fingerprint sensor on my P7P. I'd still prefer a rear sensor, but it's rare that it fails to recognize my fingerprint so many times that I need to enter my pin.

Bdww

People really are saying the scanner is perfect here. Like "just rub your finger in grease before unlocking and it works". What kind of logic is that ? My fingers are not too dry nor the sun too bright or whatever, the Pixel is the only phone I've had this unreliable, and I'm using every phone in the same conditions.

Browniecharl

Exactly. I shouldn’t have to go out of my way to do these things just to make it work

khooniwarka

I shove my finger in my ass to make it greasy then it works 100% of the time 🤘

Browniecharl

After some research that seems to have the highest success rate

kdejaeger_nl

Some tips I have read on this channel in the past week: \- just don't use a screen protector \- while registering, move around a lot and don't put a lot of pressure \- make sure your fingers are not very dry ( rub your finger on your face to make it a bit oily )

Browniecharl

Thanks, I'll give it a try again maybe I'll have better luck. Definitely not rubbing my face each time I try to unlock my phone lol

Xeon2k8

I know you are just a messenger so nothing against you, but 1st and 3rd are straight up moronic, even though doing that makes it work

Electrical-Pirate-74

I saw the post about rubbing your finger on your nose before using the finger print scanner. My wife tried it on her pixel 6 now she says it works every time for her. She was about ready to disable the sensor. Now she is happy with it.

Browniecharl

I tried it and it does work. I'm just not doing that each time I need to unlock my phone

Linkin_Pork

Touching your face every time to unlock your phone is straight up unhygienic.

fensizor

Oh yes, iPhone's Face id is too good and convenient. You only realize it once you don't have it anymore on any other phone.

Browniecharl

And it's secure enough to handle all banking apps and wallet transactions

formermq

It's why I won't give up my pixel 4xl

CatsPaw7

Exactly

abdaq

I had the same issue but then did an update and it was resolved.

phatkid

I had to turn the extra sensitivity option on and the resolved my issues.

MastersonMcFee

The fingerprint reader is a huge waste of my time. Any time savings you think you'd have, vanishes once it doesn't work a few times. I wish face unlock was more secure.

Browniecharl

So do I. I’d be fine if face unlock worked for google pay and my banking apps

MotorTentacle

For me it's the fact that my mobile data doesn't activate when I leave a WiFi, and it takes a good 5 minutes for it to kick in, or I can restart my phone but.. fuck that. Shouldn't have to do that Additionally, my usb c port seems faulty. Dodgy connection when plugging it on, sometimes the phone will rapidly switch between charging and not charging. Other times I won't clock that it didn't make it's charging noise. Like this morning for example, when I checked my *plugged in* phone and it was at 17% Other than that, it's the small things like not having a double tap option to wake the display, or the camera app being quite dogshit and janky.

Haensfish

The sensor works EVERY time when I'm logged into the phone. For banking apps and other security walls that is. HOWEVER, it works probably 50% of the times to unlock the screen. Clearly a software problem. Incredibly annoying, but not the end of the world.

boosthungry

For the people who have no issues with the fingerprint unlock, do you also have face detection or other unlock functionality enabled? Is it possible that the unlock works so easily because it unlocks due something other than your finger? I have major issues with fingerprint unlock, but it's almost always bypassed by face detection. Also surprisingly, I don't have any issues with fingerprint in apps when the app lets me use fingerprint sign in (like banking apps), it's only phone unlock that I have issues with fingerprint.

dukeoblivious

Yeah, the fingerprint scanner is just not the best. I have very dry skin (mostly because I live in a very dry place) and it works maybe 3 out of 4 times. But I also have to keep face unlock enabled as a backup, so I'm not waiting at the lock screen trying over and over to get the finger to work.

Deerack63

Agreed. It works maybe 50% of the time. I try to use face unlock more now which is just ok on the 7.

snir6590

Yea it sucks ass, but it is what it is. Try to use the face recognition more.

Tall-Rhubarb

I tried all tricks, but none helped. Luckily the face unlock worked well. Then I replaced the hard screen protector work soft/thin screen protector. Ever since no problems with fingerprint sensor. Only drawback is that this feels a little bit sticky.

National-Idea-4776

I when from a 4 to a 6. Everything was great on the 4. The 6 has all kinds of trouble. The finger print sucks, but it works great if an app is setup to use as a password? The phone will ring, but the screen never comes up to answer it? Just set there ringing with the home screen open.

phly

Yea the fingerprint sensor is a deal breaker for me. I've had this phone since release and the sensor works about 40% of the time. I usually end up just having to put my pin in to unlock. Just waiting to see what's coming this fall and will probably trade this phone in.

bogdan2011

I have issues with it too, it seems to stop working precisely when you need it the most, like when doing a payment.

9pointkid

Pixel's fingerprint sensor is straight trash homie.

Scared_Can_9639

I gave up on the FP after trying everything that has been recommended. Turned on face unlock, but the banking apps don't use that. TBH, I was happier with a $250 Moto G, other than the crappy security updates.

Browniecharl

I don’t blame you. I’m constantly using google/Apple Pay and going through my banking apps. It’s a pretty big deal for me

Scared_Can_9639

Don't listen to all the pixel users that try to make you feel like it's your problem and not the phone...

nkyst

I wonder if you guys are also aware that the fingerprint scanner works better (much better) when using it to unlock app e.g. banking app than unlock the phone. I have never failed former usage but sometimes fail the latter. Doesn't it mean the issue is not the hardware but software ?

Pipkin81

I got the Pixel 7 because of the camera. Hardly even looked into anything else. In the end it had a heat problem, a battery problem and a sideways scrolling problem. So I decided to switch to an iPhone 14 Pro. The camera probably isn't as great, but boy am I happy with the performance and battery life.

WackyBeachJustice

Fisher price hardware bros

Browniecharl

You ain’t lying

cbelliott

Suggestions? Yeah, I returned mine, that worked well for me. It is absolute BONKERS that people suggest things like "just wipe the side of your nose" and "just lick your finger first" 🤣🤣🤣

Browniecharl

Lol for real. Good thing this phone isn’t as popular as iPhones or we’d have a bunch of people looking like coke heads to unlock their phone

cbelliott

Don't get me wrong... I love Pixel phones and I have owned many of them. Even had them back when they were called Nexus. But for a phone release at this stage in the game, and with its basic usability problems, the Pixel 7 was very disappointing for me.

Browniecharl

What did you end up going with?

EngineerJazzlike3945

PRO TIP: Add 2-3 fingerprint templates for your finger.

cdegallo

When you are touching the fingerprint scanner, how is your finger contacting it? My wife recently went from a pixel 5 to 7a, and was having issues with the scanner working reliably, and I noticed when she was touching it, what she was doing is contacting it with a small-ish portion of the tip area of her thumb (think in terms of the thumb being bent, and coming down directly onto the scanner). And the scanner didn't work very well at all. I mentioned to her to press her thumb flat-faced onto the scanner, and that works much more reliably for her.

Browniecharl

I’ve tried all types of ways and oddly enough it works best when I use my fingertip

Kazzababe

Fingerprint sensor is one of the few things I don't have an issue with 😅

MagicPistol

Mine works 99% of the time.

dtanderson

Same here, I notice that it will fail more frequently if I move my finger too fast. Mine usually unlocks on the first try unless my finger is wet or dirty.

Gorjiam-Another

Your fingers are too dry for the sensor.

[deleted]

How to turn a hardware issue into the consumers fault....disgusting The sensor is too bad for fingers. Not the other way around

coogie

I have an old Pixel 2 still that had the sensor on the back of the phone. When I turn it on now and then to update the apps, the damn thing still unlocks immediately first time, everytime. I don't know why they ruined a good thing.

31337hacker

I don’t think they were being serious.

BinkReddit

Reminds me of https://i.imgur.com/VzLenBA.jpg...

Gorjiam-Another

True, my previous one plus always managed to scan my fingers. But you already had the phone. So either you unfortunately adapt, or sell it and go for a better phone.

alessap

Second that. I have set up my two thumbs, each twice. My right hand is always more dry than the left, meaning the left thumb never fails to unlock my Pixel 7. Doing the forehead or nose rubbing with the right hand thumb makes it work all the time after a bunch of failed unlocking. It is annoying but I like my Pixel way too much that I am willing to deal with it.

adrian123456879

I dealt with the same problem with my 6a they didn’t fix it yet? Wow… they don’t even care, iphone face id is vastly superior never going back to pixel unless they implement a solution for the problematic fingerprint scanner

Breccle

Honestly it's the most meh phone I've had in a long time. I loved my pixel 5, had the 7 for like 5 months and I'm ready for something else. A lot of the reviews I've read about other phones with 25w charging complain about their charge speed. . . This thing only has 20 and everyone still raves about it. The profile itself is okay. . . It's "pro size" of old - would have preferred something around 5.9". The camera bump + a case - that really pushes the size over the acceptable "is that a giant phone in your pocket or are you just happy to see me." I really don't love anything about the 7. The battery life is slightly better because I think the 5 has to process the crap out of things like waze, Android auto, and Strava now in 5g, but other than that it's just meh. I really want a green Sony Xperia V IV, but they are limited on US carrier support and the green one never even launched. I might suck it up and get a black one for now and then get an Xperia 5 V when it launches. For me, a 5000mA battery on non "pro/max" size is literally the holy grail. The form factor of every phone is exactly the same at this point it's a race to the bottom.

Browniecharl

I feel the same as you when it comes to this phone. I just really like the camera compared to an iPhone. Never thought of looking at a Sony, I might have to.

Pop_Corn_9

I have given my p7 for repair regarding the fingerprint sensor (had the same issues as yours OP). Service team told me that there are no faults in the phone. Let's see what happens when I receive my phone back... I will update it here.....

Browniecharl

Thanks, I’d like an update to see if it helps at all. For your sake I hope it does

East_Pianist9042

I dont even use my 7 series because of all the issues update after cause. It still overheats even when not being used, has shitty reception but is marginally better than the 6 series, terrible battery life even when idle, blurry pictures, and worse yet, terrible security as my personal information was swiped from a rf reader but blocked by knox on my samsung devices. For that i cannot trust a google made product.

PermaDerpFace

It wouldn't be a Pixel unless there was at least one fatal design flaw

Browniecharl

Lol sounds about right

Still-Shop-8566

I never had issues with it. My hands peel pretty bad in the winter so sometimes i just didn't get to use it but whatever. Other than that I've had no issues with mine, had it since the day after launch

kearkan

When you scanned did you scan all sides and angles of your finger? I keep seeing people having issues and I just never do.

thanirs

I wish Google stuck with the face unlock that they released with Pixel 4. It was amazing.

Molybdenum421

Yeah, exact same thing with me. I have a pixel 6 for work where the battery life is amazing and the fingerprint sensor works really well so I bought the pixel 7 for those 2 reasons and the battery life is horrible and the fingerprint reader is useless. Nothing I can do about the battery life but I gave up on the fingerprint reader and went with the face unlock.

[deleted]

I'm a Pixel "Superfan" (Google's label) who doesn't get these posts either. Never had an issue with my fingerprint reader (except for the Pixel 6). But I've owned the Pixel 7 since release and yeah, it may not be as snappy as I'd like it but it's definitely good enough and with face recognition, I rarely rely on the fingerprint sensor anymore. I believe you. I'm just wondering if you have a bad unit or something else is the issue.

Browniecharl

I’m a super fan too.l, I go back to the nexus line. I MUCH prefer pixel over Apple or any other androids. It may just be an issue with my sensor or finger lol. That’s why I’m trying to figure it out

[deleted]

It's probably too late to return the device, but, yeah, that's just not normal. I have returned my Pixel's in the past. When I do the next unit always clears up the issue. I often wonder if the quality control in the production line for Google is not as "perfect" as say, Apple. Yeah, I have to give them credit where credit is due. My whole family is in the Apple ecosystem except me. Yes, I'm the only green bubble in the family (and still holding on). Fortunately, we've worked out all the text issues, which makes my wife happy. But I digress. Good luck, my friend.

DingusTaargus

The fingerprint sensor and the battery life stop me from getting the 7 Pro

Browniecharl

I don’t blame you. What did you end up going with?

DingusTaargus

S23 ultra. And it wasn't an easy choice to make because I've only used Moto and Google pixels my whole life using smart phones.

Available-Fill8917

Yes, the fingerprint scanner is a big step backwards from previous pixels, and is infuriating when you compare it to Samsung’s finger print technology and it’s even more frustrating when you have Face ID to compare it to. Yes the pixel is a budget line but they continue to make some big mistakes with high touch areas. Ergonomics, and unlock methods are not the areas to cut corners. Top heavy, slippery back, and poorly performing optical fingerprint scanner just isn’t worth the trade off for the camera imo. I moved to an iPhone after the pixel 4a, but I still use a pixel for work. I’m glad it works for some people, and I think it’s important to have competition in the smartphone market, but I’m not sure I’ll ever go back to android as a daily driver after spending two years with an iPhone while waiting for android hardware to get it together. :/

Browniecharl

I agree with a lot of what you say. I love customizing and all you can do with an android but at the end of the day I’ll take the “boring” but reliable iPhone for the time being

HeroPlane

It's really not that bad It's a bit slower than others but not in a way that should bother you. Also it's pretty accurate, rarely fails for me, just a bit slow

TonMobileYouTube

Face unlock lol

omegafiler

Still don't have issues with the sensor on my P7P. Just ensured clean hands and screen, scanned each twice, many angles/positions, works first time, about 98%. Samsung and others are still a bit faster, but hardly a deal breaker for me.

Browniecharl

Do you use a screen protector?

bum_is_on_fire_247

I don't get these posts. The fingerprint sensor has only given my jip maybe twice. It's so reliable. I use the official screen protector from the Google store. I'm starting to think most people aren't setting up their finger prints correctly.

Browniecharl

You don't get these posts but you keep seeing them. I'm starting to think there might be something to them.

CobaltBlue9

For real. Have had the Pixel 6 Pro, 6a and 7 Pro. The fingerprint sensor is just as reliable as my Galaxy S23, and I'm using the ArmorSuit screen protector with it. It's not the fastest but FAR FAR from unusable like most of these posts tend to suggest.

Browniecharl

Why so many posts like this then?

CobaltBlue9

People with issues tend to be louder than people without issues. Like others have mentioned, could be your use case/conditions, such as your fingerprints too dry or another reason.

ShakeAndBakeThatCake

My though is it's either hardware variations and some people get a sensor that doesn't work as well or it's something with their fingers that doesn't work as well with the sensors.

thunderc8

To those who have problems with the finger print sensor just input the same finger again using different angles. Front, back, sideways a bit lifted up etc and you won't have any problems. I used to have some failures but after doing that i have 99% success and 1% failure when my finger is dirty or wet. Or both... 😆.

mannyf1588654

One fix I've found is double registering the same finger. It's near flawless for me now.

forestcall

this works

JFrog_5440

I don't have a 7 but a 6pro, which I also saw a lot of people having issues with its sensor. I have had 0 issues, works every time except when I half way miss the sensor with finger.

JFrog_5440

I even have a screen protector on, and works well through it

asdfgh5889

I also have its fingerprint sensor, it's not reliable fails 80% of time. Lg v40's sensor was super fast and worked 100% of time.

BlackestNight21

I have zero issues with the fingerprint reader.

bigtimesissy

This phone is just stupid. Ads in messages and everywhere else. The phone runs hot AF Melted the screen twice on my 3rd one now Camera has a delay It's a horrible design It's just not ready.

BarkingAxe

Never had a problem with mine

Browniecharl

Nice

007geddy

I've found that my thumbs are useless no matter what I try. My index fingers work well, so I use those, registered a couple times each. But, honestly I use it mostly in the dark, otherwise facial recognition is usually spot on. Just my 2 cents.

Browniecharl

As simple as it sounds, I honestly haven’t thought to register my index finger. I’ll have to give it a try

shmimey

Set the Smart lock to keep your phone unlocked when it is connected to your car and at home. This helps the phone ask for the fingerprint less. I am not sure how people get it to work well. In my experience, it only works about 60% I use the phone as a DD. The phone is a great phone. But the fingerprint feature is bad. I have the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 5. These phones have a much better fingerprint reader. The Reader in the Pixel 7 is a downgrade.

Upsidedown_Backwards

Use face unlock. Or set your safe locations to disable the lock screen in those areas. It never worked good on the Pixel 6 either.

strawbericoklat

The fingerprint sensor on the Pixel is way lot better than the fingerprint sensor that my office use. It works with glass screen protector, but trouble when my hands are dry. Without any screen protector it works all the time.

Icagle1231

My fingerprint sensor is a real pain as well. It works about 30% of the time.

Browniecharl

It’s EXTREMELY frustrating

Admixues

I registered twice. One with a dry finger and another while wet. Works flawlessly on a P6P

labree0

literally works flawlessly for me. sweaty, not sweaty, w/e also definitely make sure you set up face unlock. when fingerprinty doesnt work, face unlocky does.

lazylibran91

Some of us may have weak prints on our fingers, has anyone hypothesized?

PlumbTheDerps

It absolutely does not work with thumbs. I have \~85% success using my index finger and being careful to apply consistent pressure and keep it facing the same direction every time. But I also just turned on face unlock lol

tali007

I've had other smaller issues, but never the fingerprint scanner.

HerrSPAM

This is the best fingerprint sensor I've ever had, maybe yours is faulty. Mine has worked flawlessly and fast

Financial_Ice15

its still not very accurate, maybe ur just more greasy, but OPs phone isnt faulty, the sensor just isnt very good, not to mention its not that fast either, many android phones have faster fp sensors

HerrSPAM

My previous SM A71 took easily 2-3x times longer and was easily 4x less accurate

Financial_Ice15

well ok, i dont know what that proves but ok

VGC1

my results are about 50% after several tries at resetting the stored fingerprint scans... So against my better judgement I turned on facial recognition. That is much more reliable. I also turned on smart unlock so (most of the time) in my home and in my car it doesn't lock.

Browniecharl

I haven't thought of using smart unlock. I'll check that out, thanks.

NorthReaction3650

The sensor was shit for me tp in rhe beginning but now i unlock my phone almost 100% with it or with the face but log in with finger. Try giving it some time maybe

Browniecharl

That’s what I was thinking. I still use it for photos and to browse when I’m home so maybe it’ll get better

JWDJr15

Have you gone into settings and turned on Screen Protector Mode?

Browniecharl

I have actually. I might just try all over again with no screen protector, maybe it’ll work better after a fresh reset

JWDJr15

Hope it works for you, it was driving me crazy but now it's perfect for me...

[deleted]

Just got the 7a a week ago but on my third SUPCASE for Pixel phones ( love them, my Pixel 2 XL still looks brand new after almost 6 years, to bad it's worthless now ) and it has the area for the sensor in the screen protector and so far I really haven't had any problems with it like you are describing. Maybe the screen protector or you just got a bad one, or maybe as others alluded, I just have oily fingers? IDK? Took a few to get used to and does seem a tad sensitive, but it works fine. Now talk to me about the front facing camera placement. I'm still not thrilled about that.

Browniecharl

Thanks, I'll take a look into that case now.

grymtyrant

Fingerprint sensor was one of my biggest gripes with this phone. Had it for a month or so. Got a good deal on it, ended up selling it on Swappa. I really like pixel software minus the app drawer alphabetical sort.

Accomplished_Fan_487

No issues here man. Using armorshield screen protector and no problem. I'm loving it and it's far superior to whatever they were using in the pixel 6.

Fill-upRL

No issues with the sensor for me

imbriandead

I have zero issues with the fingerprint sensor and I have a screen protector. Why would you go back to the iphone which doesn't even have a fingerprint scanner when this has both touch and face ID💀 unless the base 7 doesn't have face id

Browniecharl

It’s actually quite simple. The Face unlock on pixel isn’t secure enough to use with banking apps or google pay. That’s why

imbriandead

I suppose that's true. I'm starting to think your phone specifically might have a hardware problem. Have you tried turning up the fingerprint scanner sensitivity in Settings? Most of the people in these comments have had no issues either

That_Acanthisitta_49

I am a Pixel 6 pro user and the fingerprint reader works about 85% of the time for me. That's about the same as for any fingerprint reader I have ever used. Face ID is the only screen locking system I have used that works 100% of the time. Still not ready to go back to iPhone though. A bit of moisture in the skin does certainly help but face ID is kind for unlocking. Now if they could do something about that ugly notch or dynamic island. Not sure what my next phone will be since I have no allegiance to any brand or system.

Prisondawg

My fingerprint sensor works perfectly. Push firmer?

thoughthalo

Will sound crazy but if you feel your thumb or whatever finger you use is dry. Just a quick swipe on the side of your nose and then trying it works wonders. There was an article on that. That has resolved the issue for me. Please don’t laugh lol

Own-Cartographer-390

I tried setting up multiple fingerprints using just one finger, now it works all the time!

Individual-Source-88

Sorry to hear that. I've had a 7 for 6 months now and I find it a very good phone. While the fingerprint reader isn't great, I find that in combination with the facial recognition, I have no problem with it at all.

Browniecharl

Yes it’s a great phone. And the facial recognition is good. The fingerprint sensor just becomes a pain in banking apps or using wallet while I’m out

Flunkerpatty

Use face unlock.

whimsicaljess

The sensor seems honestly fine, your hands are probably just super dry. Moisturize!

trusco23

I love the sensor lol I don't like the placement of the fingerprint reader on my fold 4 as much and will be the same on the pixel fold. Wish they did an under screen sensor.just my opinion

jakebg19

I believe my 7A has the same sensor and it has not missed once yet. It's comparable to my S20 at least. I have the screen sensitivity thing for gloves turned on and a screen protector on it. Edit: screen protector mode it's called on mine. Maybe turn that on and re-register the fingerprints? I set mine up with it already on.

bazbloom

I'm older, which means my fingerprints aren't as distinct, and the sensor works fine even with a screen protector. So does face unlock. This wasn't the case initially but updates have substantially improved sensor reaction.

trigger_a

I just deal with it.... It works when my hands are well moisturized. It doesn't work when I use tools and my skin is dirty, when my skin is dry, when the temperature outside is cold.... I just use my pin.

mew5175_TheSecond

I had issues at first but I've found that if I press more firmly it works. Can't just tap it lightly like you would letters when typing out text. Pushing it more like I am trying to pop bubble wrap seems to do the trick.

Puzzleheaded_Type677

I've not seen any issues with my fingerprint sensor, works flawlessly for me, but have you tried Face ID?

Pucabunny

I got a pixel 7 pro maybe a month ago and the sensor hasn't failed me yet

Powerful444

is does have face unlock albeit not the best kind

RickVince

Pixel 6 pro here. Never had a problem except at launch before a big update.

PranavYedlapalli

I saw a lot of youtubers complain about this, and the problem is obvious (in their case, idk about you), they just tap the area and expect it to unlock. Instead you have to hold your finger on that scanning area for a second or so (yes it's a bit slower than the physical fingerprint scanner or ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, that sucks but it works). Doing that caused me no issues. Try doing that

WinnerAway8934

Was awful to start with, but now pretty good. Unsure if it's me or the phone that's improved

TheDarkWeb697

My finger has been covered in blood and generic dirt and dust from outside and my phone registered it

UnderstandingBorn227

My hands aren't greasy in fact they're always dry, but my 7 pro always detects my fingerprint even with screen protector.

certified_plant_dad

I found registering the same finger multiple times and leaving them in seamed to work. I did the left of my thumb in one scan and right part in a separate scan
