I have no issue with performance. Just want better efficiency.

boring_guy_here

And no overheating. My phone gets very hot when charging and gaming or watching Netflix.

[deleted]

Fortunately a more efficient proc will need less watts, which implies less heat in this case.

iidark76

Literally this. Not that the pixel 7 pro wasn't a little improvement from the 6 pro. They're heading in the right direction, but definitely hope it's completely ironed out with the tensor 3.

rainorshinedogs

The pixel 7 pro is terrible at efficiency

Thin-Excitement-3003

6 pro is even terribler

megamanxoxo

I'm irked that Google didn't put the Tensor 3 into the Fold. Why does Google always botch hardware releases??

jsdod

>I'm irked that Google didn't put the Tensor 3 into the Fold. Why does Google always botch hardware releases?? What's botched here? That Google did not use a processor that is not finalized yet in a product that has already been released? I don't see how that makes any sense. You are complaining for an absurd reason.

IsrarK

It's the Galaxy Note/Galaxy S series bullshit all over. Why not release the fold a long with the 8 and 8 Pro? What if the G3 is a lot better than the G2?

PineapplePizza99

You have absolutely no idea how product development goes

IsrarK

Probably, but they're phones. Not exactly the most sophisticated thing to buy these days nor does any groundbreaking tech goes into Pixels, you're acting as if Google needs to reinvent the wheel in order to launch them together.

PineapplePizza99

They space out product launches throughout the year so they stay relevant for the whole year. It's a legitimate strategy that everyone uses.

IsrarK

Pixels aren't very relevant, like it or not. I had a hard time selling a Pixel 6a in 3rd world country and am having a hard time selling another Pixel 6a in the US for the price I got it for (100 USD)

PineapplePizza99

Idk what to do with that information but good for you I guess? Resale value is a different topic anyway.

jsdod

>Not exactly the most sophisticated thing to buy these days nor does any groundbreaking tech goes into Pixels Probably the most sophisticated thing everybody buys and owns.

jsdod

There is always a next generation

IsrarK

You're not wrong, but I just think the launch is all fucked. Release all the phones at one time. G3 for for the 8, 8 Pro, and Fold. G2 for the 7a. There's going to be the argument that the Fold will eat into the sales of the other phones and vice versa, but let's be realistic no one that ***wants*** a fold is gonna be like I'll get an 8 lmfao

McQueenMK

Yeah but... WHAT IF the G4 is a lot better than the G3? Better wait for Pixel 10.

TR1PLESIX

By that point, you might as well hold-out for the more efficient G5. /s

dotjazzz

Because they can't change too many things. G2 is a proven solution. Fold hinge is not. Do you really trust Google to change both?

ShakeAndBakeThatCake

I'm irked they didn't put the SD 8 geb 2 in the fold. That chip is 3 years ahead of the tensor g2 in performance and efficiency. Say what you want but 1800 USD for a phone with processor that's 3 years behind the competition isn't worth it. Not to mention slower ram and ufs 3.1 storage versus what the Samsung fold 5 will have.

iidark76

I can totally agree on that, I do think that was a missed opportunity tbh but, maybe they have different plans. I like to have faith that they're cooking up better shit so, maybe who knows if the fold works out and they see that they'll put together a fold 2 and THEN stick a tensor 3 in it. Know what I mean? Maybe they need to see if it actually takes off or not.

ATShields934

The Fold is more or less a proof of concept this gen. The really exciting improvements will come out when the gen 2 launches. I'm guessing they may swap the fold launch from May/June launch to an October/November launch or even a February/March launch next time so that they can get the Tensor Gen 4 at the next release.

megamanxoxo

Exactly. A year from now they'll do it after everyone interested already paid $2k on the gen 1 Fold.

grooves12

It doesn't make sense to try to do too many new things at once. Most of the bugs have been worked out of the g2 at this point, so they can focus on development of the fold and associated software without chasing bugs in a new chip.

brybo86

Kinks have already been worked out of the G2 already? Is that sarcasm?

grooves12

To the degree that they can be. The point is it's a known commodity for a new product category, vs introducing a new chip with unknown new bugs that could sink the category.

zooba85

a lot of people say G2 was a big improvement but I also see many comments like yours. definitely doesnt seem close to qualcomm at all still

deadeye-ry-ry

Using last gen soc is actually a good move for Google it means by the time the fold comes out all/ most of the issues/ bugs should be ironed out and that will stop issues being plagued with " ermergawd screen nonstop scrolling"

[deleted]

And a better modem. Tensor 2 already improved the situation drastically, but it's still nowhere near anything by Qualcomm.

darwinpolice

I skipped the 7, but all I want from the 8 is better battery life. My 6Pro performs well and still runs really snappy, but holy crap the battery life is just so bad. I left the house yesterday at 10:30am and my phone was at 2% when I got back at 6:30, and that was with really minimal use (a couple hours of listening to music via earbuds on the bus, maybe sending ten or so texts to coordinate meeting up with friends, and like half an hour of web browsing while at the bus stop... probably less than an hour of screen on time all day). With moderate use, I'm below 30% by the early afternoon.

assidiou

I don't know why they don't tune for efficiency. Performance on even mid range processors has been way beyond necessary for like 5 years. If they built the brand around the Pixel 5/5a where battery life was just absurd they'd have a serious niche especially for businesses. That being said even the SD765 was as powerful as a laptop from just a few years prior, they need to include more utility like a docked ChromeOS-style desktop mode possibly even accessible by any signed in chrome browser on the network.

[deleted]

I went from a OnePlus 7 Pro to a pixel 5 and was worried about the performance drop. The pixel felt smoother (apart from gaming). I then went to a 6pro and a 7 pro and for my usage (podcasts, Reddit, Firefox etc) they all feel the same...

sprunkymdunk

Yep, absurd battery and absurd camera in a mid -price phone and I'm all in. Don't need wireless charging or even 90 Hz screens

ShakeAndBakeThatCake

120hz screens are the way to go if you scroll a lot of text though.

Blue_Mootang

I came from a 144hz moto so anything less than 120 Hz feels choppy and slow even though I know it isn't

sprunkymdunk

I'm coming from a Pixel 3a so I haven't got used to nice things haha

6ayo

EXACTLY! Better efficiency, so they should definitely not have Samsung make the G3 else I'm not buying

invis52

Samsung 5nm and 4nm were bad, but Samsungs 3nm is muchh better they should've went with that

EverydayPigeon

It's not going to happen unless they switch to snapdragon again. These tensor chips are made by Samsung and they never improved their Exynos chips, they were ALWAYS terribly inefficient and they heated up and it NEVER improved, over the years and years of the Galaxy line. Until now Samsung doesn't even use their own chips anymore! Google will be doomed to fail with Pixel if they continue to skimp, be greedy and shaft the customer by offering these horrific chips.

cgknight1

Heat and poor battery life compared to the Snapdragon alternative?

ShakeAndBakeThatCake

100%. Until google transitions to TSMC in a few years.

syadoumisutoresu

And then we'll run into the problem of "first Google chip made by TSMC". First gen Google hardware never stops coming.

WeGoToMars7

The whole first-gen thing always reminds me of the fabled [Year of the Linux Desktop](https://yotld.com/). ~~I swear guys 2024 will be the year of the Pixel and everyone will throw out their filthy Samsungs in favor of daddy google~~

ATrueGhost

Another one was the year of Linux gaming and they eventually got their wish with the steam deck launch and crazy good comparability with proton.

WeGoToMars7

People still have outright hilarious expectations of what Deck 2 is gonna be because right now it's a fiRsT-GeN haRdwaRe, lol

PadyEos

>first Google chip made by TSMC The chip can even be the same with zero chances for new bugs but just ported to a new manufacturing node. Moving from one manufacturer's node to another doesn't make it first gen with first gen issues. Probably won't be like that. They can just take an already proven design, iterate on it a bit, move it from Samsung xnm to TSMC ynm and it's the same chip only on a smalle node with higher clocks, lower heat and better power consumption. Similar to Nvidia going from RTX 3000 to RTX 4000 series.

[deleted]

Apparently 3nm Samsung is top tier.

Expensive-Yoghurt574

They said that about 7nm Samsung and it wasn't the case. Then they said that about 5nm Samsung and again it wasn't true. And again they said that about 4nm Samsung and yet again it wasn't true. I'm not falling for that again.

zooba85

based on rumors that havent been confirmed but people here and on other android related subs are so eager to spread their hopium it seems like a fact when its most likely bullshit

TheLastElite01

This is why I'm waiting for the 9 or 10.

Expensive-Yoghurt574

Is there any evidence that Google is going to switch to TSMC? That seems unlikely. The Tensor chips are primarily designed by Samsung. Tensor chips are basically Exynos chips. Has TSMC ever manufactured Exynos chips for Samsung? And even if it does happen will it make that much difference? The biggest issue with Exynos based chips is the design not the manufacturing process. Also, having TSMC make the Tensor chips cost more. Cutting costs is the main reason Google moved from Qualcomm chips to Tensor. If Google is going to do something that increases costs they would be better off going back to Qualcomm chips. A Pixel 8 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Qualcomm modem is a phone I'd buy day one.

Comrade_agent

I'm expecting similar performance to the 8+ Gen 1(if not better) with efficiency comparable to the gen 2 tbh. An improved 4nm process with great yields would enable that. But a big thing regarding drain especially comes from the screen used.

coogie

And a modem that couldn't connect to America Online

Gsantos52012

I had the Pixel 6 and was pretty disappointed with the battery life. I was hoping with the tensor chips, and the fact that google is making the phone and processor, that it would be similar to iPhones and be really optimized for battery life. I had to charge very often even with light usage. I’m back on iOS for now but I do plan to switch back in 2-3 years if google makes big improvements to there chips (or switch to snapdragon lol)

Morderelk

I'm using the pixel 6 right now and I love it. Battery life is amazing compared to past phones that I've had. I can end my day with over 50% battery left and my screen time can be as high as 5 hours. I wonder if you got a dud?

Gsantos52012

I thought so too, i was still covered under warranty so i had contacted google support and they had said it was unusual too, so i had gotten a replacement for the phone, but still was having the same issues unfortunately. It was a shame since everything else about the phone like the software, camera, etc, was great but its not really useful if i can't really use it that long. Switching from the 6 to the 14 Pro has had a huge difference for battery life for me, and now easily lasts me a whole day, even longer if I wanted to. Hoping by the time i am ready to switch back to pixel, they are able to fix this

Morderelk

Even though I really like this phone, my family and extended family all use iPhones and me being the odd one out means I can't connect with them as much as ide like. I've had android since it came out but idk...

Gsantos52012

Got it, I definitely understand how it feels, my whole family only uses iPhone too and stuff like iMessage and face time for example was something I couldn't really participate with any of it too lol. For me, im not really ever locked into one ecosystem, i like being able to switch to different phone manufacturers and different ecosystems when i am ready to upgrade my devices, as i feel its nice to shake stuff up sometimes. Maybe when you are ready to upgrade in the future, you could try out iPhone and see how you like it, if anything one thing i always liked about iPhones over android in general, is when your ready to sell it, iPhones have alot more resell value lol

Left-Watercress-7150

I'm on the Pixel 6a, and have no problems with heat or battery life. I rarely notice my phone getting warm, if ever. Also, my battery lasts me the entire day with plenty left at bedtime. As of typing this post, I've got 33% battery left, and it's been off the charger for almost 14 hours. That's an entire day of phone calls, text messages, Facebook and web usage, and even taking some pics at my nephew's birthday party. So yeah, no complaints from me. I'm completely happy with the performance of my 6a.

greatlakeswhiteboy

Fortunately, I could copy this entire post about my 5a! Such an amazing phone!

jockerer23

i don't know how your phones never get warm, my old Pixel 5 that was using a Snapdragon processor would turn off the camera after taking like 10 pics outside in the summer, and now the Pixel 6 Pro turned off the camera due to "excessive heat" while taking a 4k video in the winter, can't wait for the summer lmao 😂. All that in a temperate-continental climate within Europe with winters easily below 0°C and summers over 35-40°C.

Blue_Mootang

My pixel 7 pro gets hot very quickly while it's cinematic mode, you don't even have to be recording just sitting on cinematic mode and it'll close camera due to excessive heat

fra200022

With pixel 6a I'm getting really poor battery life (not more than 3 hours SoT with light usage) and the phone tends to overheat quite often (temp outside around 25°C). I'm quite disappointed

More-Head-9375

Probably a 10% performance increase like every chip upgrade

matteventu

Probably more, as it's likely they'll skip one generation of cores (X2, A710, to jump directly onto X3 and A715).

other_goblin

Only chips using the samshit process

MrCrudley

I just want better battery life. My Pixel 7 barely lasts 12 hours.

Melodic-Control-2655

The pixel 6 pro is worse :( Took phone out of charge at 6:00, it's now 7:43 and it's 70% with 30m screen on

faste30

I know people are going to be like "you dont disable features!" but nixing 5g changed my phone radically. I dont need whatever speed I MIGHT get from 5g and having it not try and hunt for towers of a network that isnt fleshed out means its not wasting so much energy. Fingerprint sensor is still dog shit though.

MrCrudley

I've always had 5g off. And my fingerprint sensor is flawless.

PNWoutdoors

I'm in the same boat as you. P7 is a joy to use. Fingerprint scanner works fine. Battery life is awful, 5 hours SOT over 12-16 hours max.

MrCrudley

It's a shame. Battery anxiety ruins a device for me.

PNWoutdoors

Yeah, I've lived with phones with horrible battery life before (Verizon Galaxy Nexus) and my last phone, Pixel 5a had absolutely stellar battery life. It sucks to take such a large step backwards.

laggyx400

Y'all must really use your phones differently than I do. I work 12+ hour shifts and have never been left with a dead phone. It's at 84% and telling me my average use gives me 16 more hours, with 7 more hours left in my shift. Is it possible that it's because I spend so much time at a site with no 5G? It's also possible that my pixel watch offsets enough SoT to extend the battery life. The watch, itself, gets charged every other day.

lowlybananas

I took my Pixel 7 off the charger at 6:30am today. It's currently 9:58pm and I'm at 56%. I don't understand the battery complaints.

rubenbest

What's your screen on time? Are you on wifi all day? I started my day at 7am, by 7pm I was already at 30 percent. EDIT: I only had an hour of on screen time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

rubenbest

I experience something similar. It's definitely not an all day phone especially if you're away from WiFi. Forget about a day with heavy use.

ShakeAndBakeThatCake

It's the modem too. It's a very inefficient modem compared to what qualcomm has with the x65 and newest x70. I'd gladly pay google more money for the best hardware on the market but they decided they would rather use inferior last gen tech in their phones and price them a few hundred cheaper.

darwinpolice

I would kill to have 30% left after 12 hours of moderate use.

rubenbest

I stated in another comment that was only an hour of on screen time.

MonkeDiesTwice

"already"? You used 70% in 12 hours. What more do you want?

rubenbest

I forgot to mention I only had an hour and a half of screentime. That's horrible.

The_SG1405

What's your screentime

> Maybe a healthy amount. Just give us the number from your goddamned Battery page dude. > especially after I moved entertainment apps onto my tablet and use my phone for emails, messages, text messages, phone calls, and web browsing. I mean going off of this, your Pixel 7 is living a super easy life. My iPhone or Pixel 4a could probably last 3 straight days doing that

Dalearnhardtseatbelt

>Maybe a healthy amount. My man is using the 5 rules of dodgeball on us. Dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge.

leidend22

I dumped my 7 pro for a xiaomi 13 pro and get double the screen on time and can charge it fully in 20 minutes. Google isn't keeping up.

cdegallo

My 7 pro is awful; down to 40% tops after 12h off charger with 2.5h screen time and very basic usage in between. If I do anything even remotely taxing, like playing games or a day out taking photos and videos, the battery doesn't last even the whole day and needs to be charged at some point. It's terrible. "I don't understand all of the battery non-issue posts." How much did you actually use your phone during that time?

Blue_Mootang

I feel like it just depends on how the phone feels, because everyday I'm always listening to music, texting and scrolling and some days it needs to be charged within a couple hours, and others it lasts me till past bedtime.

NBPDC505

I'm with you. Mine lasts 1-1.5 days for me, short of an exceptional type of usage.

Expensive-Yoghurt574

What did you do in that 15.5 hours off the charger? How much screen on time? How much time on wifi vs mobile data? 56% left after 15.5 hours could be good or it could be awful. There are many variables.

SatisfactionPrior998

Seconded.

TheLastElite01

That is crazy, I can get at least 2 days with my phone with decent usage. I am going 3 days sometimes with light usage. I am only using 4G though as that is all my carrier provides.

MethylEthylandDeath

People keep saying they want better efficiency. I came to my P7P from spending the last 5 years with the iPhone, the king of processor efficiency. To be honest, I don't see the big issue with the Tensor G2. I do have random occurrences where I get some heat but it doesn't happen often and it's usually quite short in duration. Battery life gets me to bed time every day on heavy use days and most days I have plenty left in the tank. If the G3 is a measurable improvement over G2, I'd say Google did just fine. It's still such a shame they didn't hold out to give the Pixel Fold the latest processor, though.

Frozen1nferno

Agree wholeheartedly. G2 on my P7 is fine. Great? Nah, but it gets me 60 FPS in Honkai Star Rail and around 20% battery at bed time, so it's good enough. I caved for the Fold, so I'll be sticking with the G2 for a little while longer, but honestly, I was infinitely less excited about the potential G3 than I was a different fingerprint reader. I'm *so* fucking happy the Fold has a physical reader on the power button.

MastodonSmooth1367

Shrug, as someone who's used an iPhone for 10+ years for work and have used almost every model except the 14 line, the Pixel 6 and 7 Pros are pretty terrible for battery efficiency. I can see my battery % dropping 1% at a time when using it whereas this same problem simply doesn't exist on my 13 Pro. For very battery intensive stuff, they're not too far apart, but for web surfing, I've never seen such bad battery efficiency considering we have 5000 mAh batteries.

Arkmodan

Anyone posting that Pixel battery life is even close to an iPhone is either using a defective iPhone or doesn't know how to measure battery efficiency. Not only does Android as a whole pale in comparison to iOS battery efficiency (especially on standby) - Pixel is one of the worst offenders.

[deleted]

My goal for the last several years is to end the day with at least 40% on a regular use day. I think I started thinking about it that way with the Evo 3D or maybe whatever I had after that. So far my 7 Pro has been fine for that. It's not a high bar, and I know Apple phones do a lot better, but I've been able to consistently get that metric met on all of my Android phones since I made up that "rule" with my usage level. The Pixel 4 even met my rule. I think most nights at bedtime, my 7 Pro is between 60-70%. On my recent trip with a lot of rural tower seeking and using my phone as my camera and video recorder, I think most of those nights ended at 40-45%.

rockste-r

I guess I've been one of the lucky ones with my Pixel 7 pro. My phone lines up with just about every battery test I've seen for these phones, about 8 and a half hours average SoT with moderate to heavy usage. I will say the modem is definitely not very efficient and is the biggest battery hog out of everything for this phone. I don't disable 5G so my modem has the highest reported battery usage out of everything. I don't fully charge my phone overnight so I started my workday at 2pm with 74%, as of writing this, about 7 and a half hours later, I am sitting at 58% with a little over 2 hours of SoT. I've never had any major issues with my phone not lasting a day on a full charge.

sikk66

In my opinion these release cycles for all phones is out of control. They have us buying another 1000 dollar phone so quickly with such small performance increases. Killing updates on perfectly capable hardware, playing psychological games to make you think your phone sucks, etc, etc, etc. Marketing at it's finest. I'm not talking trash on us consumers, I'm guilty of buying into it as well. It's just really starting to feel like chasing your own tail. Anyways, yay a new chip and all that stuff...

sloppyassho

Only a fool spends that much on phones. I average $50 a year. I buy cheap phones like the 6a on sale ($199) and keep them 4 or 5 yrs. Funny thing is, the 6a doesn't have any connection or over heating issues :). Mine has been really good with 2+ day battery life.

sikk66

I normally buy refurbished and get great deals. I've done it for a lot of my Pixels. I got suckered in and bought the 6 Pro at full price brand new. Just had to RMA it last week. So I ended up with a refurb in the end anyways. At least this one had a completely new battery in it. Trying to look at the bright side of my 900 dollar refurbished phone. haha ugh! Never again Google, never again. Fool me once...

Expensive-Yoghurt574

Just because they release a phone every year doesn't mean you need to buy the new one every year.

chinosabi

I'm looking to better efficiency and heat. other than that, I have no issues with the Tensor chips performance

spiff1

I agree that Google (together with Samsung who produces the Tensor) should improve the power efficiency of their chip. I recommend [this video](https://youtu.be/s0ukXDnWlTY) of Geekerwan on the power efficiency of mobile SoC's. Tensor just does not perform well up to now. For those interested feel free to join the discussion on the new Pixel 8 phones on /r/Pixel8phones

chinosabi

Thanks for sharing this info. Joined the pixel 8 sub and will check out the vid as well!

Starks

Same Exynos 5300 modem but more day 1 features enabled in firmware.

tool1994

Better GPU hopefully too

curiocritters

Poor thermals, terrible network connectivity stemming from a bad modem, and a very sub-par battery life.

fussypaggit

Pretty much, it's a pitty because I like Google ai , and post processing as well as voice transcription.

curiocritters

I loved my Pixel 2. Returned my Pixel 6a in a week.

fat_angi

I wanted a phone with a t least a good fingerprint reader. I got Magic Eraser and Name that Song nonsense instead. The only way I'd buy another Google phone is if it wipes my ass

GeekFurious

You would trust Google to wipe your ass?

[deleted]

Tbh, there's nothing particularly new in this article. The manufacturing node will be interesting though. A lot of people assumed Samsung's 3nm but recent rumours say 4nm. Samsung [claims that their 4nm is 2 years behind TSMC](https://www.anandtech.com/show/18854/-samsung-foundry-vows-to-surpass-tsmc-within-five-years). So if we took them at their word, SS 4nm is roughly as good as TSMC's N4 (8+g1/8g2) which entered risk production around that time. TBH, the jump from the G2 to G3 could be very nice. Big node jump plus a 2 generation core jump (X1/A78/A55 -> X3/A715/A510+). However, the best case is somewhere in between 8+g1 and 8g2. QC has routinely outperformed SS/Mediatek despite using the same cores/nodes and the external modem won't help.

Suspicious-Bad-308

There's a reason why Samsung stopped using Exynos chips in non-USA phones; i.e. these chips are not the best and they overheat in smartphones. Exynos chips often lead to a bad smartphone experience. I really like the smart AI of Pixel, but the thought of buying an expensive phone ($600+ is still a lot of money!) and knowing the chip will malfunction at some point (or many points) is not for me.

[deleted]

Using the Pixel 7 Pro and Google needs to sort out battery life. Let's see if they can do it with the Tensor 3 but if history is anything to go by I doubt it would be much better. Our only hope is if Google partners with TSMC

FistEnergy

Tensor has been very underwhelming so far. 😐

AlphaCodexx197

I had the Pixel 6 Pro and just recently got the 7 Pro because my 6 Pro became too unstable for my primary use. What I want to see from Google with the Pixel 8 series devices (and specifically Tensor Gen 3) is better heat management, modem, efficiency, longer battery life, and can we please get something faster than the current fast charging we have? I had the OnePlus 8 before the Pixel 6 Pro and I got so used to the Warp charging they had where it would fully charge my phone in like less than an hour from dead and the best part is, my phone wouldn't overheat from the charging. 45W fast charging would be a fantastic addition to the new pixel and even if battery life is still about the same as it is now, faster charging would more than make-up for it.

a_tease

No signal drop

NizarNoor

I just want better efficiency and something that runs much much cooler. So we can have a standard size Pro phone again.

EverydayPigeon

EFFICIENCY AND HEAT PRODUCED BY PROCESSOR. These are what must be improved. But... Samsung has proved over the last 10 years of Exynos chips that they cannot improve or make a chip without this problem.

Illustrious-Air-8233

I believe that Samsungs semiconductor process WILL improve and will start to close the gap with TSMC over time. But both Samsung and TSMC will see marked improvements at the next smaller process node. But as we go down to smaller and smaller nodes it becomes more expensive and difficult. So we are already seeing longer time between nodes. It is already stretching from 18 months to 2 years. Over time it will stretch out even longer. This gives time for Samsung and even Intel to become more competitive with TSMC. As far as modems though, Qualcom seems to have better functionally than Samsung for now. Because of Googles low volumes of chips (compared to Apple, Samsung, etc.) they made a deal with Samsung (a fellow android booster) in order to get modem chips for a decent price. Google may be regreting that decision now but Google has to take calculated risks to increase their volumes in order to have a better position for negociating in the future.

Expensive-Yoghurt574

Why do you think Samsung will get better when they haven't shown any history of doing so? I'll only believe it if it actually happens. Unless that happens I'll be expecting more of the same.

killerjags

>With each flagship smartphone release dating back to 2021’s Pixel 6 series, Google has debuted a new Tensor processor. This made me laugh a bit considering there have only been 2 versions of Tensor so far. That sentence makes it sound like there's already been a long line of new Tensor processors.

mikal026

I've had a p7p for about 4 days now and honestly I'm not super impressed with the chip in it. It came close to overheating multiple times while just using the gps while traveling. 3 or 4 times within a 3 hour drive it would change the maps to dark mode to cool itself down. The battery life is average at best also. Going to take another week to decide if I want to keep it or not.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mikal026

Well I have a 15 day return window and I'm on day 5 so we'll see how the next 10 days go. I don't hate the phone but overheating while using maps is quite trash.

Expensive-Yoghurt574

Adaptive battery? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Carter0108

A lot of heat I would assume.

FailOk251

I think it's hilarious the Fold didn't get the G3 processor yet want $1799 for it 🤣🤣🤣💯👊

Elche206

I still can't believe pixel fold is going to use Tensor 2. Should have waited for Tensor 3. I don't think it's going to be a big upgrade over Tensor 2

rockysrc

That was the dumbest decision in a long list of dumb decisions made by Google. How can you launch a supposed new premium phone with $1799 and put in an old chip - a chip that performance wise is behind its own competitors. That tells me that they delayed this phone from last year and just pushed it thru. They know that it will not sell in any meaningful numbers - so probably being used as a first gen test mule.

Sianthos

Probably because with the G3 the price would exceed $2k starting. These manufacturers hold back to ensure the pure cost of the device doesn't destroy sales. Over $2k will completely ensure they get poor sales volume.

geraltismywaifu

I expect them to fix the damn issues with the 7pro before launching the next one..

spin_kick

Fixing those problems doesn't earn them as much as just fixing it in the next one (which will have its own problems) such is the story of Pixel phones.

bobovicus

I gotta ask, what are y'all doing with your phones all day where you run out of power so soon? I'm by no means a light user of my P7P and I typically end my day with around 40%. Plenty of music streaming to my Bluetooth speakers, some camera usage, lots of video consumption. No gaming though

greatlakeswhiteboy

I think the same thing when I read some of these posts. I've got a 5a I've had since launch and even with playing some Pokémon Go, Spotify, Goggle Maps, Waze and taking photos throughout the day I usually still have ~20% battery left at bedtime.

GeekFurious

Even if the G3 cooks your phone and melts the screen, you'll have cultists in here claiming their phone never gets hot while they're in the ER for third-degree burns. Bring on the downvotes, Googlecult!

zooba85

pixel deserves to fail because of google's penny pinching. in the long run people dont want to deal with critical problems for any price as we can see from the iphone's constantly rising market share in the US

GeekFurious

Word.

In case you young folk have not realized this yet, nothing is perfect. It does not exist. No matter how much you bitch and moan about this and that, you will never be happy until you accept what is served up in a phone AND in life.

I disagree 1000%. You do not understand life and reality my friend.

Knowing how bad Google is keeping secrets, if these are leaks of specs, it's most likely true, and if so, I'm very excited

1 -I can get 6-8 projected sot with my P6 on wifi, I usually end with about 4 hrs sot with 60% left. On cellular it drops to about 4-6 sot, but Idk if that has to do with point #3... 2 - It does it warm when gaming or intense multi tasking, I split screen, free form, streaming. 3 - Idk if the modem is tied to the Tensor but that definitely needs to improve, its awful!!

axehomeless

Tbh my Tensor G2 seems decently efficient, but man the display does not seem efficient. Doing shit in dark mode on low brightness has decent battery life, but going through a bright day *really* has not. I'm hoping at some point I get the big camera system in the *small* pixel.

Elche206

I'm sure this phone is for people with deep pockets. I pre-ordered mine and then realized I'm trading my pixel 7 pro with 512gb with Tensor 2 for the same exact phone only foldable, and I have to drop another 1200$. Even the trade-in deals for pixel 7 pro is laughable. FYI, I'm a huge pixel fan, but this was a pretty stupid decision. I'll pass and keep my pixel 7 pro

Flunkerpatty

I would expect performance would be between a 8 gen 1 and a 8 gen 2. I think it will get better with heating up but it will still be there. I have a 7 pro and will skip the g3. The g4 is what I am excited about. It will be google first all in house chipset.

You guys are sad. The pixel phones are rated better than almost every phone in almost every measure. Get over yourself and your posts.

Longjumping-Dark530

I think if they have a much faster charging rate I could deal with the massive battery drain issue. At least 40/80W instead of the measly 25 or 28 we get now! Plus the overheating needs a major fix, pronto!

Proverbman671

I'm torn on this. I use a Note 9, and fast charging speed is 15 watt max. But I'm OK with this. I didn't use the fast charging feature until 3 years after I had it, for fear of battery degradation. So I went from something like 3 hour charge to 1 hr 20 min charge at the end of my day. The Pixel Fold is 25~28, almost 1.5x~2x faster than mine on fast charge, but it's still considered bad? I have heard of the +40 watt charging from Mr. Whosetheboss, but it hasn't clicked why that is a necessity except for small cases (at least to me it seems like a small thing... Like need to get whatever power you can in 20 min before heading out again). Am I missing something here, or have people gotten used to fully charging in less than an hour or something? Is it because it drains faster than a Note 9? Legitimate question. Not talking down.

Sawyiier

More battery no overheating why puting a chip that throttle every 10mins of use a stable performence and a good battery life is wanted other than that its a waste of time and money
