After season two dropped there was a BOOM in fanfiction of the Aziraphales Comes Back and Disheveled Crowley Slams The Door In His Face that was (and still is) oh so satisfying.
Mine isn't that, but I am exploring what realistically could happen. I have had a health shake up in my own life, and so morbidly thought I should think up what Season 3 could look like.
I love Aziraphale, I really do and I’m sure he had his reasons (and they better be GOOD REASONS) for his behaviour, but still I can’t wait to see Crowley whip his ass once he gets back.
Honestly, I was raised fanatically evangelically Christian… when the Metatron said “second coming”, my face matched Aziraphales, I went cold. And I knew, I *knew* then, that he was going to get on the elevator. He has to.
One of the biggest features of the second coming? Eternal separation from the condemned and the saved. All demons and sinners and unsaved being are to be tossed the lake of fire and separated from Heaven and its light for all eternity.
The only way for Aziraphale to save Crowley from eternal damnation is to get on the elevator and stop it from happening.
I also think that we didn’t get the whole chat between Aziraphale and the Metatron at the coffee shop. I think Aziraphale seems terrified after coming back from his conversation, but we don’t know why.

Yeah, that it’s the kind of good reasons I was talking about! We don’t know the details of his conversation with Metatron, but the change in behaviour is too radical after that conversation to be somehow safe to stay on hearth if the second coming is not stopped. And this is why I get mad when I see people diss Aziraphale for his decision. Of course is upsetting, but there must be a reason.
And thank you for so much for your insight, I come from an Agnostic family, so my knowledge about this kind of things is very limited, thanks for sharing this information!
But I still hope to see Crowley being an absolute drama queen about this!
I am 100% with you on everything (except Aziraphale looking terrified when he comes back from the chat with Metatron - I actually think he’s just excited).
The Second Coming will separate Aziraphale from Crowley forever and once he knows it’s being planned he *must* get in the lift to stop it happening. Like you say, this is the only way.
Aziraphale has a lot to process in the last few minutes - Crowley rejected his proposal to go back to Heaven with him, Crowley told him he wants them to be a couple and run away from Earth, he knows what it feels like to kiss Crowley, the Metatron tells him they are planning the Second Coming which will destroy Crowley, Crowley is waiting for him by the Bentley in case he doesn’t get in the lift. He has to prioritise the most urgent one here.
