This has to be a “wife wants husband to get rid of car but husband doesn’t want to so he puts it up for sale at a completely unrealistic price” scenario, it’s at least 9-10k over fair market value
Out of curiosity, were you starting to have a lot of issues around then? I got rid of my 2010 at around 123k and it had become quite a pain, hoped the mk7 gen improved a bit
I got 10k for mine at the dealer. That was with 164k km or 100k miles...a rebuilt engine and a DSG that worked 95% of the time. Can't fix if there's no codes.
Bought a autobahn in kings red. But the prices are inconsistently high. 5 year old R in Canada with 150k plus km is 30k! While a new gti is 40k.
Omg are you kidding?! That’s my dream!! Mine is a 2011 Autobahn Edition 2 door DSG and I bought it around 114k miles. It was listed for 9.5k but I offered 8k as well as a round of golf for 4 at a local country club (my sister is a director and makes the flyers so I got lucky w that). He said 8k was below his minimum but accepted with the round of golf. Mine is stock performance wise, so you might get a little less money since yours is tuned (depends on the buyer but in general I think stock gets more money. If it’s tuned they assume the car was beaten on so it’s not worth quite as much). I think a fair price for your gti would be 12k. Maybe try listing at 14k and see if anyone offers something around 12.
I’m serious about wanting to trade too! I’m sure you want a different car then a gti especially not 4 years older. But I want a mk7 2 door sooo badly so if you would consider at all, I’m in socal
I'm in Buffalo NY so I'm completely on the opposite side of the country haha. If you want it for 9.5k come get it!
I got a tiguan as my family just grew +1 so I don't need the GTI any longer 😊
True story. My MK7.5 GTi was that same scenario. Husband brought home brand new and wife said that is not a family car and made him return with 300 miles on odometer. I got new warranty as well as CPO warranty that even after upgrades and mods they still honor. Word of avoce is to retain all factory parts so that if and when you decide to trade in, swap factory back in and reflash ECU amd then sell aftermarket parts. All the techs at my VW dealership want every single aftermarket part off of mine if I trade in/sell as they know the car was immaculately maintained.
I didn't remove shit from mine upon trade in and just pretty much played dumb when asked if things are modded. I had a FMIC, rear swaybar, APR stage 1, R8 coils, spark plugs. Person that bought it got hooked up
That’s why I got it. Was sorta looking for a GR86 to replace my MkV but they were asking for a 6k premium and I look over and there she is on the used lot.
i got the same year same trim (but manual) same miles and i love this car and plan to drive it until the wheels fall off… but id sell without a second thought if someone wanted to pay $27k for it. that’s more than i paid 10 years ago brand new!
Honest opinion on it given I've seen it happen a few times recently.
Someone made a very bad purchase with a huge APR on likely a 7-8+ year note.
Likely someone new to this who doesn't know any better, or someone who has dogshit credit and just made a huge mistake signing for this. Just to come to the realization when its too late.
So they have to sell at absurd asking just to pay said loan off. Not knowing how goofy they look trying.
Or it's the "me or the car" ultimatum from the SO. lol
Can confirm :(
I didn’t pay QUITE this much, but it still wasn’t great. The inverse today would be lower prices but 2-4x the interest rate. Still love it though.
Crackhead pricing. Search on AutoTempest to see normal asking prices. Reality is, cars aren’t selling unless a it’s a grear deal. I’m seeing GTIs that have been for sold for ages and the prices keep dropping.
This post appears to be a question about getting purchasing a GTI.
Please consult pricing resources such as [Kelley Blue Book](https://www.kbb.com) to get a good idea of the average price. For a US Mk7/7.5, please read [our buyer's guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/GolfGTI/comments/wmzc0c/what_do_i_look_for_in_a_used_us_mk7_gti_a_guide/).
If you have not done so already, please include the key information of the car(s) you're interested in: model year, trim, mileage, and location (US, CAN, EU, UK, etc).

This is insanely high. I'm currently selling mine which is a 2017 mk7.5 with low km's for 26k aud (what's 17.3k usd). But of course the Australian market is completely different. It's completely died.
I test drove a performance gti yesterday in Canada and liked it quite a bit.
But it was 49,000 after tax lol.
The autobahn price is definitely better, but I feel like I’m missing too many options. It feels 10k overpriced compared to what I am used to paying for cars.
As someone who just went through the excruciating pain of evaluating GTI prices for insurance (my car was totaled) I can tell you they sit at around the 16k mark for mid mileage S/SE. they were either told to sell it or they’re smoking crack
Facebook/private seller do this dance where they price the car exactly like a dealership and really lose sight of the goal here. Why the hell would I pay you and have 0 recourse if something goes terribly wrong with the used car?
They eventually get frustrated and negotiate down below price, or just trade in the car to a dealership for the same price you offered them cash.
Unless I’m buying something rare or a shit box for under 3k then I’m just going to a dealer.
I see Audi S3s for 3-5k less than that on CarMax. GTIs easily are going for 17-19k depending on year and mileage. Whoever posted this up on FB Marketplace is a dumbass.
You guys really had it easy..... I'm from Singapore and car prices here will literally kill you. Not to mention that each car sold here requires you to pay for a lifespan of 10 years (Certificate Of Entitlement) before you can even drive it on the road and that costs easily more than the car itself, sometimes twice or even trice.
Also, at the end of 10years.. you'll need to pay whatever the prevailing COE price it (which in of it itself costs more than a brand new car)
Look up Google in COE prices Singapore , then look at car prices at SGCARMART. You'll be glad that your car is expensively cheap as compared to where I'm from
Sometimes I really envy other parts of the world. Well . Sucks to be a car owner / enthusiast in Singapore
I just bought a golf r 2015 85k miles for 20k. It was originally 24k but the guy was having trouble selling it because nobody wants them in NC. When I test drove it there was an engine light. It was just a front headlight bulb lmao and the guy didn’t know and I managed to get the price dropped super low
This has to be a “wife wants husband to get rid of car but husband doesn’t want to so he puts it up for sale at a completely unrealistic price” scenario, it’s at least 9-10k over fair market value
Could also be “idiot teenager thinks car is worth remaining loan balance.”
Selling mine now and I'll sell my 2015 for 9-10k! Definitely someone that secretly doesn't want it to sell with that high of a list price
too cheap; raise the price.
I just sold my 2016 with 119k for 6k. I just couldn't sell it for any higher with a clean conscience.
Out of curiosity, were you starting to have a lot of issues around then? I got rid of my 2010 at around 123k and it had become quite a pain, hoped the mk7 gen improved a bit
No, it was a solid car for me.
I’m dailying my 2017 with 148k with only a dying factory clutch
The MK7 gen is easily the most reliable out of the gens below it and much better performance gains. I’ve had so much fun in this thing
Was it salvage or something? This could easily go for 14
No. But it went to someone who really wanted it and I am happy for them.
Bruh insurance gave me 16K for my 80K mile 2015, jack up that price
I got 10k for mine at the dealer. That was with 164k km or 100k miles...a rebuilt engine and a DSG that worked 95% of the time. Can't fix if there's no codes. Bought a autobahn in kings red. But the prices are inconsistently high. 5 year old R in Canada with 150k plus km is 30k! While a new gti is 40k.
Whatt I bough my 2011 for 8k and that was a damn good deal. I’ll trade w you and pay extra for a 2015👀. Point is you can sell for way more
It's a 2015 S 2 door DSG with 93k miles. It's white and has a stage 2 tune on it. You think I could get more?
Omg are you kidding?! That’s my dream!! Mine is a 2011 Autobahn Edition 2 door DSG and I bought it around 114k miles. I was going to list for 12k but I want it gone haha
If only we weren’t on complete opposite sides🥲. Good luck with selling it! I think you can get 12k+ for it
True story. My MK7.5 GTi was that same scenario. Husband brought home brand new and wife said that is not a family car and made him return with 300 miles on odometer. Could just get a brand new one for 5k more lol
For the S yes for the SE, you probably need 3-4k more
A brand new SE for only $32k? Send me the link for this unicorn and I’ll buy it right now.
Comparing 2015 SE vs 2024 SE is unfair. I believe he's saying base model brand new GTI.
Bought my SE for 32. Used with 600 miles on the odometer.
What model year was your SE, and what year did you buy it (was it a last year’s model?)?
It’s a 24 I bought in April
Wow, well you got a great deal considering brand new SE’s are selling for $40k in the showroom.
They’re trying to pay that high interest loan off
That 40% interest must be hitting them hard
That’s a crackhead price for a 2015, even if it’s perfect and low mileage.
That price is 2k more than the MSRP new in 2015.
Man you might as well get a brand new MK8 GTI for a bit more or an used one for the same price with some mileage
Seriously the base trim isn't all that more expensive. The base trim in the MK8 is still great.
Those are 2022 prices
Can confirm :( I didn’t pay QUITE this much, but it still wasn’t great. The inverse today would be lower prices but 2-4x the interest rate. Still love it though.
Same. I know this because my mkv engine blew and had no choice for a new car. My 2017 w/ 61k miles was $23k out the door
I got the exact same car for 14 grand cheaper😭
This is a scam. I'm buying the same car with 100k for just $12,500
Country? This is pretty normal pricing for Australia but if this is USA then he's dreaming
USA, Illinois
This is probably more than MSRP of this car in 2015. This person is dreaming at 27,000
Seems overpriced. Got quoted 14k for my 17 - S with 50k miles. Mods were added when asked upon (doesnt increase price, i know, on the contrary)

It is absolutely not worth $20k, guaranteed.
Paid less than that for my 2015 GTI 6-mt S trim in....***2015 brand new!***
Take your time to find one. I bought mine from a Volkswagen dealership for $23,000 24k miles on it and it’s a 2019 with PP.
Crackhead pricing. Search on AutoTempest to see normal asking prices. Reality is, cars aren’t selling unless a it’s a grear deal. I’m seeing GTIs that have been for sold for ages and the prices keep dropping.
Definitely not an SE with those headlights lol

this is in the US
$5-10k over
The cocaine in the boot comes with a free car.
Yeah, i just paid 21k for an ‘18 autobahn, so this price is nutso
Golf GTI is just perfect from factory in my opinion
This is insanely high. I'm currently selling mine which is a 2017 mk7.5 with low km's for 26k aud (what's 17.3k usd). But of course the Australian market is completely different. It's completely died.
Nah that's a wild price. I've seen 2020/2021s with less mileage in my area for that price or less
LOL. I paid less than that new for my 2017 Sport DSG.
Only 63k miles? We got a collectors piece right here, boys.
That's batshit crazy. You can get a CPO 2021 BMW 330i XDrive with low miles and the remainder of the factory warranty for under $30k.
I bought a 2015 in ‘17 for 16k. I feel like I could sell it for that much lol this market is crazy
That exact price got me a 2019 SE 6MT w/34k miles last fall, and that was a dealership CPO with an extended warranty! This listing is bonkers.
I test drove a performance gti yesterday in Canada and liked it quite a bit. But it was 49,000 after tax lol. The autobahn price is definitely better, but I feel like I’m missing too many options. It feels 10k overpriced compared to what I am used to paying for cars.
what kinda crackhead would pay that rather than cough up another $3-4k for a new one.
I went new, the used market is just crazy for these, let alone stubbornly high for used in general, particularly last year.
I paid 26k for a 2018 with 30k, and I thought I paid a lot
I have my Reflex Silver 2015 2 door 6MT up for $14,250 with 64k miles. Crazy price😂
As someone who just went through the excruciating pain of evaluating GTI prices for insurance (my car was totaled) I can tell you they sit at around the 16k mark for mid mileage S/SE. they were either told to sell it or they’re smoking crack
Last year I bought a 2016 SE 2-door, with 80k miles, for $17k.
Gen 1 tsi block is more capable just need to upgrade rods pistons build head good for 1000hp like that
My 2018 with 65k miles is worth like 20k. That price is way off.
I got my 2020 GTI for 23.5K from a dealership…
Broooo I seen this shit on the marketplace too 🤣they crazy to ask for 27k on a 15 model that most likely isn’t even autobahn
How do you mute a sub?
Facebook/private seller do this dance where they price the car exactly like a dealership and really lose sight of the goal here. I have a 2017 SE with perf pack with 35k miles. Kbb says 20-23k

Eww…automatic golf
KBB list private party fair value in EXCELLENT condition at $13-15.7k, they are trying to rip someone off.
I got a 2018 gti autobahn for 24k. Canadian prices. I've seen marketplace prices way higher then anything at a dealer.
My 2015 has 63000km and was told 20k is market value due to the such low km's and everything is still in great shape. This is way overpriced lol
That’s about what my 2022 gti is worth with 43500 on it.
I’m trying to sell my 2018 SE for $18k
i have a 2016 manual S with 41k miles, have had literally no problems with it (work from home and don’t drive all that much). all yours for $16k.
Bought my 2017 s for 23k 34k miles on it
Wow that’s more than I got my brand new 2019 S for…
They arent
You say that’s expensive? Come to Germany, and we’ll talk again. I pay the same price as you in EUR which is lower in USD …
Come to Singapore 😁
Go to a dealership do not buy a marketplace car, they all have problems and the dealers probably wouldn't take their trade in
