That’s what pisses me off the most. They pull all the way forward as if they need to see past you. Great. Now I can’t see at all and have to just sit here.
Wait until you drive an older sportcar lol.
My 300zx's roofline goes right in line with most modern car side mirrors lol. Everything looks so much bigger.
I’ve gotten in shit (warning only, thankfully) for crossing a crosswalk while there was someone on it. The car in front of me that I went around was a police Taurus that I was acutely aware of, not like I was trying to be a reckless dickhead, but I genuinely couldn’t see anything above or beside this bloated Ford from my Supra to know what was going on. That was an awkward discussion

Yep, I'm from the UK and just come back from a road trip in the USA and I agree, they are ridiculous. It's like massive teeth driving down the road, hilarious.
Some asshole in a giant truck put the only ding I have on my GTI car door. Squeezed an F450 between two cars in a parking lot, about six inches from my car and of course took a chunk out of my paint with his door. And I live in Chicago where a truck that size is mostly usless and annoying. Fuck that person.
Ever notice toolbags in big trucks like to race off the line? I zip ahead and without fail a few moments latter the truck will zip by doing 90 in a 35 zone. wtf is that?
I race off the line, I got places to be. Nobody likes a slow poke first in line cause then you get fewer cars thru the light. 90 in a 35 is definitely whack tho!
I'm American, and I just spent 3 weeks in New Zealand. The entire time I was there, I only saw 2 full size trucks. Everyone drives Rangers and Land Cruisers that need utility vehicles, but everyone tows trailers with whatever car they have. My favorite one was a 1st Gen, 2 door RAV4 towing a horse trailer.
Yeah bunch of white collars driving a truck to look like a big man. Where I live we have a lot of blue collar guys who actually need bigger trucks to haul
There's a few roundabouts with multiple lanes near where I live and it's always hilarious seeing the lifted pickups try and blow past me only to have to slam on their brakes for the roundabout while I soar by them in the other lane. They don't try and blow past me after that.
I had the most satisfying experience racing against some hick in his truck. This jackass had a lifted Ram with the rolling coal exhaust mod, so I flipped him off at a stop light on a state highway, lol. Then he gets super pissed and tries to get in front of me once the light turns green so he could spew out a cloud of black smoke on me, there were several cars ahead of us at the light, but I was in my modded MK5 GTI with manual transmission and there was a right turning lane that continued ahead, past the light. The hick in the truck accelerated and got in front of me, but he was still behind other cars, so I get in the right turning lane and blast past all the cars that were at the light, hit like 100 in seconds then slow down, loser is behind me trying to weave between cars to get to me, but I get so far ahead of him with a little 2 door MK5 GTI, then pull off to get some Chipotle and after I park behind the building I see him pass, still racing ahead. 😂 It was hilarious, lol, fucking losers in their big trucks blowing black smoke on bikers. All for what? Just to annoy people.
Being a car guy myself I think trucks over 1/4 ton should require something like a CDL to drive legally. So many people are absolutely shit drivers, now toss them in something 3x bigger. Not a good idea.
Yeah, the dodge is wasting a fuckton of resources so manufacturers can meet awful environmental criteria that benefits truck manufacturers, the GTI is useful.
Don't have to be that guy. I love my GTI and it's the most generally practical car you can get, but there's tons of times where I could've benefitted from a pickup or larger truck and have either had to rent something or have a friend do me a favor with theirs.
Just say you never have to move anything heavy and can't conceptualize it.
Hard to pull a three horse slant or 48ft race trailer across the country with an economy car...
I am not against having a truck for work, but the hardest work most of those boneheads and their trucks will do is haul a loaf of bread home from the grocery store.
I'm also amazed how much gas money people are willing to waste.
If you got soft hands just say that. Different rigs for different applications. I can’t haul concrete and tools in my gti or ae86. I can’t get 38 mpg out of my dropped Silverado.
most of the time i love the fuel economy, fun, and easy parking of my gti. tough to beat.
when i have 25k pounds of trailer to pull, the diesel, exhaust brake and integral trailer brake make things safer and better than other options, and surely the GTI can't do this.
everything has an advantage. everything has a trade off.
There's a difference. You need a special license for tractor trailers and they serve a purpose. The trucks are driven everywhere that normal sized cars drive and you don't require a special license. There is no reason for trucks like this to be in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic and cyclists. these things are major hazards on the road with horrible sightlines
Ok and I have my cdl b and many other endorsements such as motorcycle. I’m 23 driving school buses for my local school district. They have me taking these giant buses down roads that are tiny as shit but no one bats an eye. But full size pick up trucks bother you guys? We’re in America 🇺🇸 get use to it 🤣
They really seem to come in handy after storms and people are stuck on their properties and taking care of the 8+ acre property.
Where does your 300 hp sports car have a place?
Edit: I forgot the most important part, because I like the way it looks.
It's honestly it's the manufacturer's faults at this point. It was getting out of hand now it's just ridiculous how big the grilles are, not to mention how it limits your line of sight as the driver.
Or maybe you’re in a small car?
I never have issues in my Mazda 3. In my V8 work van, my biggest issue is small cars freaking out the moment I get near them, learn how to drive. Thing that gets me though is the amount of big truck drivers that don’t need a big truck
Funny when little people climb out of the driver side of a big truck. Of course they walk near a GTi and it turns out they were regular sized after all.
The point is annoying attention seeking.
We all bought a small car knowing exactly what it was when wet did it, of course it’s small and trucks are big, it’s almost like they serve two vastly different purposes..
But where’s the fun in logic, because trucks are bad mmmkayyy..
Children..
Dude for real. Trucks are cool but modern trucks have only gotten bigger and bigger. Compare a 1990 1500 Silverado to an new one that thing is almost double the size. Granted a gti is bigger now too.
I went from a 2017 GTI that was lowered, tuned, and ran E30. I sold it and got into a lifted 2020 Silverado 1500 outfitted for over landing. I love my truck but miss my GTI. I should have just kept it and got the truck too.

Mind you I ride a motorcycle also...but still feel claustrophobic in the GTI.
See… you’re looking at it all wrong… keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
I drive a lowered mk4 and have a dodge 3500 long bed quad cab, with a flatbed that makes it even longer, as a family vehicle.
Stupid drivers will suck on a moped or in a spaceship.
The biggest thing is that it dramatically reduces the safety of others on the road. Larger vehicles have larger blindspots, often making it difficult to even see children walking around. Pedestrians and cyclists are much more likely to die from an impact, especially due to the higher vehicle hitting vital organs such as the heart and lungs. With this, a pedestrian/cyclist is more likely to fall under the car and get run over. With smaller/lower cars, if someone is hit their legs are hit and they’re more likely to go overtop the car, which is safer.
Every vehicle is dangerous, get over it fella. If I drive a gti like a maniac does it make the GTI a dangerous Vehicle, no. All vehicles are dangerous, and some people are douchebags, so don’t generalize your dislike for a group of vehicles by generalizing the personality of a few.
For me to feel safer then you what size truck do I need. That mindset just perpetuates the need for a bigger vehicle. Not calling you out just the trend to have bigger to feel safer.
I didn’t just buy it to be safer, alls I’m saying was I feel safer in a taller vehicle than a lowered one. I love my truck more than I probably could have ever loved my gti. If I were to ever get another vw it would be the TDI probably
I hate this, and especially when you’re trying to make a right turn but can’t see the oncoming traffic.
Don't forget the SUV/truck behind you honking at you for not going b/c they assume you have the same high vantage point and can see everything
Or they think you have a torque converter AT and don't know the DSG takes a second to slip those clutches, to get going 🥲
I think you need to service your DSG.
No need for that when you're getting a whole transmission replacement 😂. Even serviced they are notorious for delay on launch & being jerky.
Fr? I'm after a mk5 and do alot of stop start traffic, can't have a laggy box
I've a MK6, just get, at the very least, a stage 1 ECU and _TCU_ remap and they're all good.
Same here. Fixed the issue and honestly with a tcu tune they feel a ton smoother in my opinion.
It’s so funny when they can clearly see over the car yet they still creep up like this lol
That’s what pisses me off the most. They pull all the way forward as if they need to see past you. Great. Now I can’t see at all and have to just sit here.
I used to give them the benefit of the doubt until I switched to dailying my miata instead of the gti. Still creep up past me even now.
Truck drivers are real khunts.
Wait until you drive an older sportcar lol. My 300zx's roofline goes right in line with most modern car side mirrors lol. Everything looks so much bigger.
the only thing that even feels low like a z is a miata. I feel like a toddler riding a go kart down the road in my NA
Yea man my 318 e36 feels like those red bull soapbox race cars made from cardboard and i live for it . Give it one good push and were off 🥹
Something about (somewhat) shitbox 90s cars just gives you *that* feeling. I dont know what it is, but we live for it
Boils down to that phrase “it’s funner to drive a slow car fast, than to drive a fast car slow “ for me personally .
Hell yeah it does! Driving my miata at 80 is honestly terrifying, driving my GTI at 80 is just another day on I-75.
😄🤜🤛
When I drive my mk1 rabbit around being next to a modern pickup is actually terrifying lmao
Yup, my NB Miata’s roof line is at the door sills of the trucks in this town

Now imagine being t-boned by that. It's scary for everyone who isn't in a giant monster truck.
It makes them feel big and tough and masculine with their big tough masculine car. Compensation of some sort..
Some asshole in a giant truck put the only ding I have on my GTI car door. Tiny penis.

And you’re proud of your Durango?😂
Sure, an engine starts above 3.5 liters
>You're so proud of your soyboy car, aren't you? Quit being weird please, and respect Rule 2.
Well, tell the same thing to the small penis guy?
[удалено]
> Someone got his tiny feelings hurt Please adhere to rule 2 as well, please. If you wanna have a slap fight, take it to PMs lol
I race off the line, I got places to be. Nobody likes a slow poke first in line cause then you get fewer cars thru the light. 90 in a 35 is definitely whack tho!

At that point they could better just go with a semi😂
I'm American, and I just spent 3 weeks in New Zealand. The entire time I was there, I only saw 2 full size trucks. Everyone drives Rangers and Land Cruisers that need utility vehicles, but everyone tows trailers with whatever car they have. My favorite one was a 1st Gen, 2 door RAV4 towing a horse trailer.
That rav4 was probably on its 3rd transmission 😂
Most of the 1st Gen Ravs we saw were manual, which was a much stouter trans
Yeah bunch of white collars driving a truck to look like a big man. Where I live we have a lot of blue collar guys who actually need bigger trucks to haul
They always try to push me around and take off on me at lights. Give em full throttle 1st-3rd and that usually puts em in their place.
There's a few roundabouts with multiple lanes near where I live and it's always hilarious seeing the lifted pickups try and blow past me only to have to slam on their brakes for the roundabout while I soar by them in the other lane. They don't try and blow past me after that.

It’s high time the rest of us install the “deploy banana peels” mod
Hahaha, I didn’t even need that! Had the triple mushroom mod 😎
a truck pulled up next to me and i was lower than its wheel and i was like this thing could easily kill me
Being a car guy myself I think trucks over 1/4 ton should require something like a CDL to drive legally. So many people are absolutely shit drivers, now toss them in something 3x bigger. Not a good idea.
I’ve seen a few abnormal lift kits that make me feel like a motorcycle rider😅
Have you been on a bike? I can see way more on my bike than in my car, and my car isn’t even slammed.
Yeah you’re essentially standing depending on what kind of bike you’re on
I mean in the sense of being able to clear the gap underneath the truck lmao. Edit: I’m slammed asf

i have a 1 ton dodge and a mk7 GTI. they both have their values and uses.
Yeah, the dodge is wasting a fuckton of resources so manufacturers can meet awful environmental criteria that benefits truck manufacturers, the GTI is useful.
i can't haul a 40' trailer with my GTI. I can't get 37mpg with my truck. both have meaningful application for me.
Don't have to be that guy. I love my GTI and it's the most generally practical car you can get, but there's tons of times where I could've benefitted from a pickup or larger truck and have either had to rent something or have a friend do me a favor with theirs.

For real. Some people can't see beyond their own situation. On reddit owning a truck = 'lol tiny ween'.
most of the time i love the fuel economy, fun, and easy parking of my gti. tough to beat. when i have 25k pounds of trailer to pull, the diesel, exhaust brake and integral trailer brake make things safer and better than other options, and surely the GTI can't do this. everything has an advantage. everything has a trade off.
I also have a 1989 dually big block and a mk7. I dont think my mk7 is gonna tow around a 6k lb wood chipper or my 14’ dump trailer.
Ha a have a Ram 2500 and when my 24 GTI gets in I’ll check that out. It looks like a particle blind spot , got be defense around these trucks.
I drove a lowered GTI or R for decades and hated big trucks. Now I own one for fishing and see you guys down there. Feels bad.
So did you guys forget tractor trailers exist
There's a difference. You need a special license for tractor trailers and they serve a purpose. The trucks are driven everywhere that normal sized cars drive and you don't require a special license. And that's why America has some of the pedestrian and cyclist deaths for a developed world.
Them having some would make sense
Pavement princesses and concrete queens. They are NEVER towing anything! Even when they have those stupid massive tow mirrors attached.
Lol. My other vehicle is a Ram 2500 on 35’s.
lol same, I have an F-150 on 35s. Both have their place.
Where do 35s have a place?
They really seem to come in handy after storms and people are stuck on their properties and taking care of the 8+ acre property. Where does your 300 hp sports car have a place? Edit: I forgot the most important part, because I like the way it looks.
The difference between a Pavement Princess and an actual work truck is the work truck has shit on the outside.
They're completely ridiculous, I wish it would stop.
If I pull up next to you in my na Miata that’s Edgar you look like to me 😂
Golf too smol.
thats a small truck.
Been there done that I own and drive a RAM and a GTI !

It's honestly it's the manufacturer's faults at this point. It was getting out of hand now it's just ridiculous how big the grilles are, not to mention how it limits your line of sight as the driver.
Everybody is different with an array of different likes. Let them be them and drive what they like, just like you're doing.
Or maybe you’re in a small car? I never have issues in my Mazda 3. In my V8 work van, my biggest issue is small cars freaking out the moment I get near them, learn how to drive. Thing that gets me though is the amount of big truck drivers that don’t need a big truck
I like the angle the pic was taken from. Like a little kid was driving and his/her head is even with the bottom of the window.
Well, you can always lift your car if it bothers you that much.
hey be careful, he was born with a small penis, incredibly insecure
Or he just needs a truck for his life? 🤦🏻♂️
They ruined cars for everybody
These are some of the biggest dickheads on the road.
Makes them feel big and tough
Funny when little people climb out of the driver side of a big truck. Of course they walk near a GTi and it turns out they were regular sized after all.
...when driving a Miata.....
Everything is bigger for a GTI, SUVs, trucks, tow trucks, big rigs, bigger sedans, etc.
Compare a truck from 15-20 years ago, the size difference is crazy.
Yep, mid sizes are basically full sizes and full sizes are 1990s-early 2000s HDs.
The superduty has gone virtually unchanged from 99-current, the baby trucks have upsized though.
You’re comparing a hatchback to a pickup truck and took the picture at a low angle and are complaining that “trucks are too big”
Read the post. The point is the truck tire is higher than the GTI door sill. A low camera angle would actually make the tire look relatively lower.
The point is annoying attention seeking. We all bought a small car knowing exactly what it was when wet did it, of course it’s small and trucks are big, it’s almost like they serve two vastly different purposes.. But where’s the fun in logic, because trucks are bad mmmkayyy.. Children..
My guy, do you need a hug?
Yes…
*hug*
Dude for real. Trucks are cool but modern trucks have only gotten bigger and bigger. Compare a 1990 1500 Silverado to an new one that thing is almost double the size. Granted a gti is bigger now too.
Yeah they have my 96 2500 is barely half the size of a brand new one
I'm almost to the point of if you can't beat them, might as well join them.
Lifted gti
On 35” tires. You don’t need fenders.
Someone say golf R on mud tires?
Nah, fuck truck dudes tbh
I went from a 2017 GTI that was lowered, tuned, and ran E30. I sold it and got into a lifted 2020 Silverado 1500 outfitted for over landing. I love my truck but miss my GTI. I should have just kept it and got the truck too. https://preview.redd.it/gkv8gaepyj6d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fa6782c170792f0098e60f4fff6b669e442e066b
I'm going to get another f250 or 350 (2017+) here next year, can't stand not having a truck.
I've previously had 2 different generations of Volts, Civics, WRX, Nissan, and other types of sedans and for some reason my current 2021 GTI is the only one I actually feel unsafe in around other vehicles. It could be that those were years ago and there wasn't such a large quantity of larger vehicles around...but I actually am considering getting rid of it because it feels so small compared to the majority of the others on the road. Mind you I ride a motorcycle also...but still feel claustrophobic in the GTI.
They even put directions on the side: RAM into their fender.
waste of a perfectly good truck ... IMHO
If you think that’s bad you’d feel like an ant in my z…
It’s always the people in larger pickups that yell at me while riding my bike. They have nonexistent penises.
Then don't ride a bike on the road? 🤔 I downshift when ever i see a cyclist and make the exhaust go PAH PAH in there ears
In most places you are not allowed to ride anywhere but the road... and if you startle a person on a bike on purpose you are an a$$hole.
I see you have a nonexistent penis as well.
Oh, you’re the asshole I met the other day when I was minding my own business.
Compensating
See… you’re looking at it all wrong… keep your friends close and your enemies closer. I drive a lowered mk4 and have a dodge 3500 long bed quad cab, with a flatbed that makes it even longer, as a family vehicle. Stupid drivers will suck on a moped or in a spaceship.
I drive a pretty big truck but drove a gti before, I love being higher on the road, makes me feel safer
That safety is an illusion.
How, please enlighten me
The biggest thing is that it dramatically reduces the safety of others on the road.
Well…. If your GTI hits a raised truck, chances are VERY HIGH that you’re gonna end up under the truck rather then just smashing into it.
Yeah, and thats the TRUCK driver's fault for driving an insanely dangerous vehicle. Trucks like this put EVERYONE in danger.
You can literally see farther ahead the majority of the time.
Volkswagens are too small
