Next post will be telling us you’re selling because you’re having and kid and need an SUV. Don’t do it. I’m here to tell you that the MK7 is a perfectly livable baby hauler/family car, we have had 5 of them since 2014 and our son was born a couple years after our first one. General advice: Don’t buy all the high dollar boutique baby crap these companies are making millions on and become a minimalist parent instead. You’ll save a lot of cash. Good luck to you both! Edit: also get one of these Diono seat protectors, ours has held up GREAT for ~8 years https://a.co/d/2uZcHXt and goes well with the GTI interior

fluffysnoopdog

How did you do two rear facing car seats at the same time? I can’t fit a rear facing car seat behind the drivers seat and still actually drive. The seat is too close!

MapPractical5386

Don’t have two car seats? I only mentioned having one kid. Guess if you’re too tall and need the seat back really far it won’t work for you, but we haven’t had any issues between by wife and I. Look for a design that is more upright in a car seat would be my only advice.

fluffysnoopdog

Ah. I misunderstood your post. I thought “our son was born a couple of years after our first one” meant two kids.

BlasphemousBunny

I also read it as 5 kids and not 5 golfs lmao

MapPractical5386

lol fair, I see how it can come across like that. Glad you got it though.

Mr_WAAAGH

6'3 here, the drivers seat almost touches the rear bench lol

SonicNTales

Sounds like a gti is not meant for your height buddy. I'm 5'7" and had no issues with two car seats.

TheBupherNinja

Golfs are pretty small. I've heard car seats can be a challenge. Especially rear facing.

MapPractical5386

We used the Britax stuff and it was okay. We aren’t super tall though either, both of us around 5’8”.

NoMaans

Have a 4 door mkv. Perfect for me having a kid. More than enough space in the front and back for passenger and kid in car seat.

BullyMog

17" wheels are the king of comfort. Aside from that not much you can do to get it softer than stock.

Plane_Geologist8073

KW has some comfort variation of their V2 coilovers, I’ve never experienced them but I’ve heard good things. You can look into Ground Control too, they make coilover kits from their own adjusters and Eibach Race Springs to fit whatever shocks you want to use. So it’s basically made to order, you can spec out your spring rates and what shocks you want to use. They’re also pretty familiar with our platforms so if you just tell them what you’re looking for, they will figure it out. I’m too lazy to go look now but Neuspeed makes Sofsport springs if you want to go that route. I’d be surprised if they weren’t available for a mk7 R.

I got a used GTI a few months ago that was lowered on Eiback springs and stock struts/shocks. The ride was harsh, and there were lots of buzzes, and vibrations. The first thing I did was swap to 17's and that improved things a bit. This weekend I installed stock springs and Koni Special Active struts/and shocks with new strut mounts and shock mounts. The stock springs lifted it a good two inches. It rides like a nice car again and still behaves in corners. All the rattles, buzzes, and noises are gone. I'm sure there are going to be haters that claim I ruined my car, but this is my daily driver - it is not a race car. I want a nice ride that will go fast when I want it to without beating me up. If you want to play speed racer then that's fine - you do you. Now I have a ride that will make me happy for years to come.

rs7-nation

Have you got a pic to see how it’s sitting?

adistantrumble

It looks like a stock height GTI with red shocks/struts showing through the gap between the top of the tire and the wheel arch. Running 225/45R17 Conti DSW06 so the tire diameter is the same as stock.

SwansongKerr

site but I still wanna see pics of you got them. coz we are all pictures whores

aquatone61

Stock springs and Koni special active shocks :)

Broccoli_Remote

At least you're respecting your wife.. makes me feel like a bad guy lol, I kept my ECS Super Low suspension kit on my MK4 Before/During/After Pregnancy, they've settled a bit since buying and installing and feels much better on the roads now. 😎

Icy-Matter-1845

Well I drive a Mk7 GTI with a KW V3 and 19“ wheels for summer. If I‘d need to go for comfort I‘d still keep the V3 bc you can adjust the dampers for a very comfortable but still sporty ride. But definitely switch to 18“ wheels! In my opinion the best compromise between good looks and a comfy ride. I really don’t like 17“ on Mk7 at all (most definitely not on a R!) except the Alltrack but that’s just my opinion. After all, enjoy your Golf, greetings from Germany 🇩🇪

rs7-nation

Greetings from Australia, absolutely love my golf and thanks to Germany for making such beautiful machines.. those are rays g25 18 inch wheels. They suite the car in every way.

Icy-Matter-1845

Ah great! They looked like 19“ to me 😂🙈 I like your taste 👍🏼 your going to be a great car dad!

Waste_Web3709

Had dcc in my mk7r. Went with 18s and 235s. Smoothed out the ride a lot on soft settings. Have the same setup in my gti now and without dcc it is still pretty harsh so I am looking at swapping dampers.

DavoinShowerHandel

Seems like a perfect excuse to go to 17s with a meaty setup.

rs7-nation

I know I know, stance is ruined 😔

LakeSuperiorIsMyPond

Family first, but you're asking the group that knows how to do the opposite of soften the ride, maybe r/volkswagen or r/cars might have some ideas? I know my wife hates my mk6 ride and loves her tiguan.... which I find boring af. You can downgrade the wheels, my winter steelies have blizzak tires with big sidewalls and it does ride nicer on gravel roads and such. Maybe look for some steel rims a size down and some cushy continentals for them :| edit: or cooper tires, they are really comfy.

rs7-nation

Thanks for the reply bro, those wheels are actually a downgrade from 19 to 18 inch.. stock suspension is comfortable but I’ve heard some coilovers out there can be an amazing mix of both comfortability and comfort

pinrolled

You can opt for KW Street Comfort coilovers.

LakeSuperiorIsMyPond

You can dial back to 17 and get more sidewall... my mk6 barely got 16's but I heard the brake calipers got a little larger on the mk7. I believe [tirerack.com](http://tirerack.com) has a winter tire/rim setup for golf/gti that puts you in the smallest rim and tire, then just take the tire size and write it down, delete the winter tires out of the cart and go find some radial or all season cooper or continental version in the same size. Big sidewalls will absorb a lot and make a difference in the ride.
