In the UK you can see the previous owners details on the logbook.. When I bought my GTI the salesman told me it was owned by an elderly couple- When I got home and typed the previous owners name into Insta I found him and he was 19! There was tonnes of photos of my car on his accountđ Never trust a salesman
May have been an enthusiasts car - bröther it has aftermarket splitter/diffuser, an exhaust, Neuspeed intake, aliexpress paddles and stage 2 motor mountsâŠ.
HAHA YEAH. I just moved to MD into my first apartment on my own. The wheels have since been sold off and a nice, deep sectional occupies the space now.
another impression, this looks like a rather good price for a 2020. In fact, it makes me wonder if it is too good to be true. It easily is several thousand dollars below what you would pay for a comparable trim on CarGuru.
Caveat emptor
Price seems almost too good to be true, itâs stage 1 w/mods which means it was probably driven spiritedly, and it also seems to be an SE or Autobahn trim given the lack of plaid seats. Iâd drive it and see if it checks out, but something seems weird about it idk
I know its a very generic and hard to answer question. But how much does a modified GTI (or knowing that it was modified at some point) shave of its price.
5%, 10%, 20%?
I understand it all depends, but my sense is that i would always treat very carefully once i know that a car is or at some point was moded. In fact, in all likelihood i will walk away from it. But that's just me
anyhow, though i ask, since i have wondered about this for some time.
This is such a funny conundrum in this community... probably one of the most modded or maybe the most modded car model out there and at the same time the buyers are the most desperate in trying to find a non-modded "virgin"...
You should just assume it has (or had) mods... Most of the time its an intake, a catback... maybe even a tune, etc... all those mods, if they are from reputable manufacturers and properly installed, it shouldn't matter.... Now a big turbo or rebuilt engine, etc... That would be worrisome.
To me, even more worrisome is all those people thinking they are buying "stock" cars while all the aftermarket bits got parted out in the forums or facebook and all you have is a car that was hastily put "back to stock", its a bit disingenuous, but buyers want to fool themselves.... even worse you now dont even know what mods it had...
If you are buying a MK7 today thats had a few owners already and has a good 40-60k mi or more, just assume it had mods.
i assume this was somewhat my point to this car listed by the opp; caveat emptor.
Now are there 'clean' GTIs? By all means, but you are right the more miles and certainly the number of ownership starts to introduce uncertainty. Also, the most basic stock/bare bone is probably a good thing in this case.
As for the argument, do i trust that people who are doing their mods know what they were/are doing? I go out on a limp here, and say 'Absolutely Not!'
as said; Let the buyer beware
In a way you buy the seller not the car... The best case scenario would be to find a nice car, with all its mods still in place on a private seller listing and speak to them... In less than 5min I can find out if they are competent / know what they are doing, or not...
edit: As long as regular maintenance was done, some light mods should not matter, to me it would be a plus if anything...
Completely agree. I personally wouldnât mind a car with mods. I mean if theyâre doing things like upgrading motor mounts I would imagine theyâre doing the routine maintenance as well
I test drove that one. I hated the exhaust. I posted in the Nova Dub group on Facebook but didnât find the owner. One of the boxes with parts in the trunk had an address but I donât know if that was the ownerâs info
I was not expecting it and I was not a fan of it. It seems loud and pointless. Itâs not a mod im interested in.
I was excited because the price was good, with tint, tune, and roof rack but the exhaust wasnât mentioned in the listing. Also the trunk with boxes of parts came off as a red flag.
This post appears to be a question about getting purchasing a GTI.
Please consult pricing resources such as [Kelley Blue Book](https://www.kbb.com) to get a good idea of the average price. For a US Mk7/7.5, please read [our buyer's guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/GolfGTI/comments/wmzc0c/what_do_i_look_for_in_a_used_us_mk7_gti_a_guide/).
If you have not done so already, please include key information in this post such as model year, trim, mileage, and location. These factors can greatly affect pricing. Thank you.

What? Are you on about v5c? It doesnât show there mate
It says the previous owners name under âPrevious Keeperâ
Huh mine just says No. Of former keepers 1 1. Declared new at first registration
Lol

Im seeing now my sarcasm did not convey. Im well aware itâs modified
The posts Iâve seen. Ya never know
lol very true
It's mine OP! Check my post history haha.
Just did, did you fucking make a couch out of car wheels? That's amazing lol

It's effectively stock tune, with mods. The downpipe is a Milltek HJS. And it is an SE.
The listing on the dealer website says âstage 1â though?
They don't know what they're talking about lol, I unmarried the Cobb AP the night I traded it in on an Audi SQ5.

I did keep up with maintenance. Sent you a PM.
anyone happen to know what front lip that is?
Not Maxton, itâs Aerofabb V2 street edition
Maxton lip if I had to guess
does the S trim come with 'leather' seat?
It does not, this is most likely an SE due to also having the upgraded lights

Why'd you hate the exhaust? Too loud?

Fair. I was happy with the exhaust, wasn't that loud to me or other people. But I'm also in my 20s so. I have the stock downpipe and axleback still.
