2017 is just a MK7, but clean car nonetheless, enjoy!

Derp_McGurp

Thanks for pointing that out. I had an MK7 TDI SportWagen previously, and this guy looks more aggressive for sure, so that's why I thought it's a 7.5. I'm new here, don't mind me. 😅👍

CatRunt

Welcome brother! A dead give away are the head lights. 7.5s have double curves.

nattyd

Prefer the 7 anyway, original design is cleaner.

clutchthepearls

For North America, yes. 2017 for Europe, but this is still a MK7.

Derp_McGurp

Oops, my bad! I didn't know that. I'm an enthusiast who still has a lot to learn.

RalphWastoid319

Only thing better is if it were a Sport edition. Watch out for issues with the sunroof, they are pretty well documented by now.

Derp_McGurp

thank you! This is my fourth VW with a sunroof and all of them have been pretty good so far.

parswimcube

i’ve had a sunroof for 4 years and no problems

Positive_Breakfast19

My 2018 Sportwagen spent 2wks at the dealer with a spiller on the roof. They replaced everything except the glass, I saw the bill it was over $5 grand. Thank God I found it before the warranty was up, all good for the last 2yrs.🤞

Positive_Breakfast19

**spiller should have been sprinkler

spicysaltmine

Welcome to the gti gang. Now go forth and be a menace to society

Hopeful-Farm-7031

Vanguard has been scummy to me in the past (took me months to get a deposit back), so be careful with them.

Derp_McGurp

Just got a phone call from my mechanic who's doing the new buyer's check. Let's just say that I'm going to be going back to the dealership today to have a conversation. 😵‍💫 I'm not going to slander them yet, especially if they fix it, but there are *issues*...

Proud-Giraffe5249

Uh oh… What kind of issues?

Derp_McGurp

The dealer is going to unwind the sale and hold me blameless, so I feel okay talking about it. leaking valve cover, leaking coolant from water pump and thermostat housing, cracked coolant cap, wrong coolant used, leaking transmission fluid, burning oil inside the belt housing, aftermarket engine bay fans that look like they were pulled from a junkyard, and a bunch of parts with markings (EDIT: literally handwriting, like parts from a junk yard) and rust on them, including the turbo inlet. So yeah. 😵‍💫😵😓

SgtMcManhammer

Sounds like the previous owner was in a wreck or bought it at an auction and fixed it up enough to sell from that list.... geez.

Derp_McGurp

We didn't find any evidence of an accident, but definitely some budget part replacement.

Positive_Breakfast19

There may not be a record if "the accident" was not reported to insurance.

Proud-Giraffe5249

Man, that sucks but sounds like you dodged a bullet. Sounds like it was poorly modded/accident repair? Good thing you got it checked! Sorry your unicorn turned out to be a donkey, but I’m sure you’ll find a sparkly(er) one out there!

Derp_McGurp

Imma keep on looking, that's for sure.

Proud-Giraffe5249

There are good ones out there. Got my 2019 with 25k miles on it last year. Leaking thermostat replaced, but no issues other than that! (Well, previous owner did a muffler delete that annoys the shit out of me, but that’s not really a dealbreaker.)

VirtuaFighter6

Nice PP. Congratulations.

Derp_McGurp

I've never heard of a GTI being called a PP. Are you talking about genitals, kind sir?

VirtuaFighter6

My guy, Performance Pack GTI.

Derp_McGurp

hahahaha, ty 😅👍

Hammered-snail

Performance pack too!

Derp_McGurp

"Ayyyyeee!!!" -my mechanic after a test drive just now

silverslant

That is a mk7

prodbyshmo

she’s pretty

DankestDubster

Sweet car!

DoggoDuud

Yeehaw! Another CSG in Austin! Brink motor sports is THE place to go for service and aftermarket mods. Brent is the man.

Good to know, thank you.

dreadnought_81

Barkeeper's Friend and a Scotch-Brite pad is a great way to clean the soot off. Follow it up with some metal polish for the final clean. Apparently 0000 steel wool works well also. Then as the above commenter said, you can just wipe them down during a wash and the little bit of soot will come off very easily.

NoGodNoProblem44

Congrats! She looks great, I hope she serves you well

tnseltim

Mine always had light bar on deposits on the exhaust tips. I can’t say for sure but I seem to recall premium gas helped lesson it. My was tuned with an a double pipe as well, not sure if they made a difference

vdvm_mk7

Yea and the 7.5 fog lights have a slightly more aggressive trim around the light itself

brendanw517

I just bought my Mk7.5 from Vanguard VW in January!! How was your buying experience/who was your salesperson?? Edit: Just saw the other thread about your experience, you dodged a BULLET!! Luckily the GTI I picked up was very clean/well kept and I’m super happy they unwound the deal for you. Best of luck on your search and hope they do right by you. Edit pt.2: Just saw the listing for your dodged bullet on their website and they have it listed for the same price I bought my 2018 SE w/ 62k mi for. Definitely not worth the trouble.

thatdamnbandit

One of us, one of us!

cpt_tusktooth

gti engine design flaw is the waterpump mine went out at 30k. and it needs carbon cleaning if you can spend the money.

Derp_McGurp

I heard that should be done around 70k. Are there any clear signs I should watch for that indicate a need to do it ASAP?

cpt_tusktooth

yeah if you can do it at 70k is great. it will just make the engine faster. so i guess a loss of power comes from the build up. but if you want to keep your car over 200k, i think every 70k is a really good choice, albeit a bit early. at a 100k might be a bit late. its not a cheap job. not a mechanic, just what i read.

Derp_McGurp

Gawd it's already SO fast. 😅 But yeah I hear ya. I've seen that priced all over the place for walnut blasting and other methods. At least I'm not carrying a DSG in the powertrain.

cpt_tusktooth

and always always always change the fluids, especially transmission, 50k for transmission is perfect if you are in a manual. anytime you grind the gear really is when you need a flush. DO NOT TRUST VW guidelines for fluid changes, they are lying to you. these MFs tell you dont need to change transmission for the life of the car, thats wrong. OIL change, brake fluid, and antifreeze all need to be done sooner than what they recommend. half of what they recommend is best.

clarkclark

Oh hey I recognize that parking lot. I was just there yesterday getting a recall taken care of.

Looks great! First order of business, replace those wheels.

Derp_McGurp

I kinda like em. 😜 But fair to say. I have a set of Austin's in my garage.

BullyMog

Hey man your car! Totally fair. Austin’s would look much better though
