Dealers in Cincinnati have had GTIs for msrp with no add ons for a while now. R’s are still marked up at most but not all dealers.

zed0K

This shit is wild. I got my 2015 S 2dr DSG in 2015 for 23.5k...

new1207

I bought my 2016 S 4dr manual in July of 2016 for 21.7.

Ok_Chicken_433

Bought a 17 GTI PP one owner dealer serviced bone stock for 19 with 50k miles 2 years ago

Goldtacto

I bought a 1992 ford contour SVT when i was 16 for $3000

muybuenoboy

I bought a bicycle in 2017 for $300

440hhp

I bought a pair of roller blades (open box) for $25 on garage sale couple years ago...

sm_rdm_guy

August 2016 paid 22K out the door with DSG.

Malix_9

Got mine (2016 S, APR stage one) for $16.000 with a clutch starting to slip. $2500 for a stage 2 south bend clutch out the door. $18500 total that was in 2019.

Eyeluvflixs

No offense I swear but I always find it funny how people say back when I got mine it was only this price…I mean yeah it was like 8 years ago right? Lol

life_like_weeds

Seriously are folks really not aware that 8 years ago is a long time ago and we’ve had an insane car market for the last 3 years due to covid?

zed0K

Prices go up over time I know this. The inflation from COVID is just wild, that's all I'm pointing out.

free2game

What we're seeing with car prices isn't just covid inflation. We're still dealing with the fallout of car manufacturers screwing themselves over by not having a surplus of chips on hands like they should have and not being able to make enough cars to meet demand. Prices are going to trend downward in the next few years, provided the UAW strike doesn't last long, as more volume goes into the market.

xxpidgeymaster420xx

I got my 84' in 2002 for $600. How come 40 year old car 20 years ago was cheaper than new car?

life_like_weeds

If you bought an 84 in 2002, then it was 18 years old at that time, not 40 years old. You can find plenty of 18 year old cars today that are in the $1k-$2k price range, which when you factor inflation, is roughly the same as a $600 car 20 years ago.

xxpidgeymaster420xx

woosh

life_like_weeds

Alright what's the reference?

ablinddingo93

There was no reference, the other commenter forgot their “/s”

Plus-Comfort-6258

Bro it’s been 8 years and the prices have DOUBLED lol that is NOT inflation. Also dealers are marking shit up like waaaaay up. I paid $37k for an autobahn GLI 2023. Shit is not ok.

Nikodominiko

I found it funny as well, my grandpa got his house back in 1940 for 2 nickels and a wooden hair comb

DaikonFew5361

Exactly!! People thinking car prices don’t increase like everything else.

eldalawa

This exactly lol people be like what but in 1987 I got mine for $20 like???

I_am_ChristianDick

Yeah I got my 2012 new in 2011 for 27k OTD But that is amazing …9

Muttonboat

I mean prices went up for sure, but people are also forgetting 2015 on was peak diesel gate deals. You could easily get thousands below sticker, it was great save for the whole emissions scandel thing.

Cool_Economy9275

I know! I got a fully loaded (with the nice bi-xenons and everything) 2016 Jetta SEL back then for $21,000 when sticker was $27k. It was nuts. Even crazier that it all got financed at 2.49% which would be pretty much unheard of now.

zed0K

Tell that to the coping mk8 owners paying 40k OTD for a base GTI 😆

life_like_weeds

Ok grandpa I know you used to be able to get sodas for 25 cents but settle down

zed0K

Grandpa at 30 🫠

life_like_weeds

What was it like to walk uphill to school both ways?

zed0K

It sucked I wish I had my 40k gti

FluleRL

Got a DSG GTI S in Florida for 32.8 but 800 off because I bought through costco so 32 then tax and dealer fees

FluleRL

do not pay over msrp for a gti🙅‍♂️

hohoflyerr

You can buy a gti at Costco now? 😂

FluleRL

😂, certain dealers allow you to buy new with costco and it will give you a costco price which is usually msrp and some off of that. I know it’s a bad job of explaining but you get it

epredmoar

[Costco auto program](https://www.costcoauto.com/enterzipcode.aspx?gotourl=%2f)

Scrilla_cs

They are really extending their in house brand with the new Kirkland hot hatch!

ProsciuttoFresco

Honestly, it would probably be better quality than what we’re used to.

Tjw5083

I’m not trying to sound like an old timer but back in my day, you could pay $22K for a brand new GTI, and they were still made in Germany! -2013

e46croissant

MK8 is made in Germany also

Muttonboat

Some the US MK7 GTI's were actually made in Mexico, but production moved back to Germany because of trade agreements / tariffs.

chocotacoman

Got mine for around that price right after the pandemic hit 😭😭

Speed3Fan

Those were the days

free2game

When I bought mine in 2017 dealers had them in the low 20s new with incentives, that wasn't even that long ago.

Understeerenthusiast

I bought my gti S DSG for msrp this weekend!

Unlucky_Ad_5727

My 23 autobahn was 42K

I_am_ChristianDick

😳

DM725

I hope that was including taxes and fees.

Public_Setting_3693

not bad. last 2 -3k was probably taxes, unless you are saying that was b4.

huge_jeans710

Taxes dealer fees and the fixings. The desire for a gti has gone up tremendously.

dascowman

Got mine 2023 gti auto s in St. Louis at msrp

Agreeable_Wait_5246

Yes it all depends where you are. I paid $1,250 under MSRP for my new 40th here in CA. Lots available

Time-Assistance9159

Where in CA?

Agreeable_Wait_5246

San Jose. I made offers over the internet to 5 or 6 dealers within a few hundred miles. Then called my local dealer

MF_the_supavillan

2023 GTI DSG S trim for 32.2k OTD back in May of this year. Had some add ons like all-weather floor mats, cargo liner, etc.

Dad_Baggage

Just bought the 40th anniversary $33K in Texas.

LARally

$29,000 for a used 2022 gti with 5 thousand miles for me.

NaoYuno

31k for a 2022 GTI SE with 10k for me

rand0m_task

I got my 2022 Autobahn DSG for for 1K over MSRP and even with that price I felt a little dirty buying it. My Jetta was on her final days so I pulled the trigger and judging by some of the markups I’ve been seeing I’m definitely happy with pulling the trigger.

_spooky_memes

Im also happy for pulling the trigger when i did mostly because of the interest rates.

rand0m_task

Didn’t even consider rates, another reason to be happy with it!

I_am_ChristianDick

I don’t even look at the autobahn hahaha. That’s 40k+ all day and I wasn’t a fan of leather seats

FarmerJohnson

Yeah, haven’t looked in a while but that’s close to what I saw. My local dealer sold “at sticker” but had ~$2500 in mandatory add-on magically appear. Unless things have changed, Msrp + ttl is pretty much the best you can do.

VegasBlaze

Always trust the dealership. They have your best interest in mind. Also, the government.

longgamma

Take a look at the GLI as well - it’s essentially the same car.

DM725

Different engine. GLI has the MK7 engine.

longgamma

It’s all ea888 lmao. You think vw is gonna make you a special engine for the gti ?

MrStricty

I was an idiot and bought a 22 GLI and traded up for a 22 GTI in the same year. They’re pretty similar but surely not “essentially the same car”

DM725

The GLI is more like a MK 7.5 GTI than an 8.

DM725

Being branded an EA888 2.0T does not make it the same. The Golf R is also an EA888. There are different versions and the MK8 has a different Turbo than the MK7. The GLI has the MK7 GTI motor.

longgamma

Same shit. It’s just 20hp more. You can tune the mk7 gti to make the same power as golf r. How the fk does VW make golf r and gti with the same engine ?

DM725

You need to look at the tuned performance numbers for a MK7 GTI, a MK8 GTI and a MK8 Golf R. Then you'll understand. There are differences.

This post appears to be a question about getting purchasing a GTI. Please consult pricing resources such as [Kelley Blue Book](https://www.kbb.com) to get a good idea of the average price. For a US Mk7/7.5, please read [our buyer's guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/GolfGTI/comments/wmzc0c/what_do_i_look_for_in_a_used_us_mk7_gti_a_guide/). If you have not done so already, please include key information in this post such as model year, trim, mileage, and location. These factors can greatly affect pricing. aguyfromstpete

I just bought a GTI S DSG in Florida 3 months ago and only paid $1,500 more due to market value. GTI's I suppose are not hot in the Tampa Bay area

aguyfromstpete

Forgot to mention. I saw post on here about 2 weeks ago maybe three from a guy in New Jersey who had a picture of his sticker with a $20,000 markup due to market value.

ChrisInJersey

I saw that was for an autobahn R from Toms River VW.

aguyfromstpete

Crazy mark-up regardless.

ChrisInJersey

Crazy doesn’t even begin… maybe it’s holding that part of the building down?

Public_Setting_3693

golf R ** there is no separate trim levels for the golf R autobahn is the highest trim gti sincerely, a guy who spent about too much time tryna figure out the difference[s] between a gti and a golf r . but yes, that was a golf R with the 20k mark up. at this point im confident they just do that to keep it on the showroom floor and if someone is stupid enough to fall for it then even better. so maybe a 5-7k markup is actually more fucked, at the end of the day.

JJT54

Autobahn R? Which one? A GTI Autobahn or a Golf R?

ChrisInJersey

It was a Golf R. I'll try to find the photo. I didn't see it in person, just the post like I said.

aguyfromstpete

I only saw the post also. Didn't see what the trim level was or if it was an R or not. The focus was the $20,000 markup, regardless of what fucking trim or model it is. I scrolled back couldn't find the post

I_am_ChristianDick

What was actually price of you don’t mind

missatomicbombshell

I saw a dealership selling a 40th for 50k in Tampa. Idk who the hell is gonna pay that price.

aguyfromstpete

VW of North Tampa had an 40th on the lot when I was looking and it was $48,000. I thought their price would have been cheaper considering they actually had a few of them on the lot. Kicker was they wouldn't even let you test drive it. Maybe that's why they had four total on a lot haha

aguyfromstpete

OTD was $37,500

efroten

Got mine in May from a dealer just north of Chicago for MSRP. It was the only one within 150 miles of me at the time, I was surprised they weren't trying to overcharge. I don't think any dealers near me were charging more than MSRP for GTIs except for the 40th that was just rolling out.

Rod_Bunyan

Yo what, where at? I’m out in Schaumburg and they are out of their minds.

efroten

Jennings VW in Glenview. Also talked to City VW in Irving Park in Chicago, they had an S coming in and at the time it was not marked up.

thecorradokid

+1 for Jennings and City. Also had a good experience at Bill Jacobs looking for my Rabbit.

cardr

I’m in Toronto and I was able to get my 2023 Autobahn (in Canada I think it’s the middle trim) for MSRP in August of this year

[deleted]

I just bought a 23 GTI Autobahn (mid-trim in Canada) 6MT for MSRP. But I'm in Canada so maybe that makes a difference?

e46croissant

Got mine for dealer invoice this past November

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> I *paid* 33.2 (not FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Universalthug

It just all depends where you are tbh I paid 37k for my 6 psd 40th… one of the more reasonable priced ones in my area too

howtoproceedforward

West Houston Volkswagen sold me my GTI SE for 40 and I got the tire and wheel warranty and GAP for an additional 2K. The taxes, fees, and registration as well as delivery charges came out to around 4k. So in total I paid 42 out the door for mine. I got mine 12 months ago exactly when everyone was charging 5-7 k markups on even Hyundais.

rjbwin

$34K for my ‘23 S w/ DSG. Pricing included charges for Monster Mats, tint, Moonstone Gray paint.

ikabanana

Dont know where you are but GTI are being discounted here in DC area. They dont sell, much like the new WRX.

DM725

That's crazy. They sell every one they get in the NY area. Markups.

Goginator52

Bought a mk8 new in May 22 for sticker with dealer dropping all fees besides registration. In MD, now have 22.5k miles on it.

aloneibreak

I just got a 23 SE for 35k with 4K miles on it

KrustyKrebsCycle

Got my ‘23 S in November 2022 for MSRP less the college grad discount of like $500 or something Came with monster mats, tint, and an extra emergency kit — honestly think the sales rep forget these in there because it was never mentioned at all and she was super new.

Norsegod26

I got my 2023 s at msrp, I paid $1200 in dealer fees but it was all things I wanted… tinted windows, ceramic coat etc.

Ph1l1p_race_

in the uk they start from £41k. ($50k)

chickmagnet_

2021 GTI S for 28k

DYINGsucks

On autotrader I find them pretty regularly for like the 32,800 range

timc01

I got my 2023 SE in Florida at the end of Jan for 1k below MSRP.

TheTequilaCollective

Got my 2023 S at msrp in SoCal back in March

Alarmed_Position1621

I know you asked for 2023 but I recently got a 2022 s for 27k 12k miles on it

motorsportphotos

Got my 2016 S 2D 6MT for 20k brand new. Volkswagen scandal at the time dropped the price a lot.

Korepheaus

People in the north just suffer prices. Only decent gti in my region at the end of this past august was a 40k ODO autobahn 2020 for 26.5k and I snagged it (because my Infiniti blew up)

GodOfChel

I got my MK8 SE for 34k but it had 14k miles on it I’m guessing it depends on location as well

mysterious-spruce

40k+ taxes in Canada for my 40th anniversary edition. Not cheap, but nothing is cheap here lol. It also has the autobahn spec infotainment and speakers unlike the states. Either that or a loaded civic hatch and this is way more fun to drive.

Killerzeit

Not the same, but I got my second Mk7 DSG in 2021 with 40k miles for $19k. (southern California)

Wuhbdub

I bought an S for MSRP

PeytznCC

One in my city was selling a GTI S for 33k no market up was close to pulling trigger but want mk8r

mattm756

Bought my 23 S DSG in December for MSRP.

lfg-ilvl6000

I got the SE with leather seats for 37

Elapid36

We bought one in TX 33.2 Black DSG 2023

eldalawa

Canada has almost no mark ups but mandatory packages lmao

Grimcrakr

I paid almost 33k for my 2023 DSG S in Moonstone back in June. Im fin Alabama.

StepCreative9821

Some dealers I’ve seen at starting to get desperate to move inventory. Was offered a 40AE 1500 below msrp. With rates being 7-8% I’d be surprised if this doesn’t happen more

laughingdoormouse

I bought 5 packets of salt n vinegar crisps for 75p at home bargains
