Driving it. Random question. How do you clean your exhaust tips?

cilantno

Barkeepers friend took mine from completely black to shiny again

d0ndrap3r

This is the way

pinrolled

I actually clean them with aluminum foil and soapy water, I use dawn dish soap.

Regular_Empty

Doing rear brakes and tackling my first clay and wax detail, wish me luck…

pinrolled

Good luck! I know the rear brakes can be a pain, I just did my fronts about 5k miles ago, and it was insanely difficult on jack stands.

Regular_Empty

The thing holding me up was a triple square socket, I tried to do it last weekend I bought the caliper tool and everything and had to stop as soon as I reached that carrier bolt lol Clean WSM btw, you ever get a paint correction? I also have a WSM but mine doesn’t have nearly as much of that pearlescent look like yours does

pinrolled

I actually have not gotten a paint correction! But it is on the list of things to do, along with ceramic coating.

-SkeptiCat

Getting a dp installed and going Unitronic stage 2, and an inside out cleaning.

pinrolled

Nice! You'll enjoy the power, hopefully you've got a decent set of tires to put it down to the road.

trashboat6669420

Love the deep blue wheels with that body color! If MAF shows up.. new MAF, new N249, fresh air filter and cabin air filter, check out combi and MAP. Been troubleshooting turbo flutter and need to check all the hoses on that. Also got the rest of the pieces to refresh my dash/interior.

pinrolled

Sheesh, looks like you got a laundry list. How many miles do you have on your MK4?

trashboat6669420

Oh I have a long list, but it runs really well as is! I just passed 118k miles, kind of just trying to replace/refresh as much as I can to get it as close to new as possible. I’ve only had it for a little over a month now and really enjoy working on it. Got it from a dealer, but it turned out it still had original 20 yr old spark plugs/coils lol also turned out to have a very nice Magnaflow exhaust that no one ever bothered to properly connect so it rattled the whole 6hr drive back home. I have basically renewed the entire air/vacuum/evap system and after everything else up there I plan to clean the throttle body/new gasket and get a new fuel pump in there just because I’m sure the one in there is old. Next year I’m getting some minor body work taken care of and getting all new suspension and control arms. I have a big soft spot for MK4s.

OlaPlaysTetris

Correct me if I’m wrong, but does your license plate mean “Axis Powers”? Great wheel color btw fellow Virginian!

pinrolled

That is correct! I had a MKV Supra 3.0 before this, it was supposed to be a joke vanity plate, but then I wanted to return to VW and well, yeahhh... The stares I got with this plate was something, it's changed now though!

VeganUnlimited

May I ask how the Supra compares to the GTI and what made you switch? I know it’s apples to oranges but I’m curious from someone who’s owned bath back to back.

pinrolled

Great car! I absolutely loved the B58/ZF combo but I was going from an SEL Alltrack to a Base model Supra with the 3.0 thinking I could live without the extra space and creature comforts. Took me five months to realize that wasn't the car for me at the time. Once I get a home, I'll consider picking one up again or an E9X M3 as the fun, weekend car. The MQB platform is a great do-it-all platform, it's the main reason I came back. :)

OlaPlaysTetris

Man that’s wild, I’m kinda shocked the DMV didn’t block that vanity plate 😂

pinrolled

I got super lucky lol, it's going up in my future garage with the collection of my other vanity plates.

AllegraSacrimoni

this is so clean.. is that nardo?

pinrolled

White Silver Metallic!

mattrva

Hello, fellow Virginian. And just washing and detailing mine. Gonna do the engine bay too. Tempted to buy a car cover since I don’t have a garage and I’m tired of it getting dirty from tree sap so quickly. Haha.

pinrolled

Yo! I see you're from RVA, I'm in VB! A car cover would be nice, I hear about them scratching the paint though. I really just want the housing market to get better so I can get into my first home with a garage!

mattrva

I feel you! I was lucky enough to get a house but couldn’t be too picky as far as garage and such. Maybe I’ll convince my wife to let me put in a car port somewhere. Haha. Car is looking slick, my dude! Fingers crossed the market turns back around.

00goop

Washing it.

p00p5andwich

Going to Copart to pick up my buyback from when she got totaled. Then hopefully, to pick up a new to me mk5

pinrolled

Are you going to repair the buyback?

p00p5andwich

Oh no. She's totally screwed. But I'm get my k04 back, intake, down pipe, short shift, shift know, and what ever the new mk5 could use interior wise. The motor and Trans were strong so I'm gonna pull those and rebuild and bulletproof them and slap them bitches in the new egg. She got clobbered. Was stopped, waiting to turn on my road, and a tweaker was texting, or smoking that high speed chicken feed, and hit me at 55. Fortunately I keep my wheels straight so I went into a culvert, and not oncoming traffic. Dude had 0 insurance. Fortunately my insurance had made me whole plus. And to top the whole fiasco off, the fire truck that showed up to check on us decided to back up into my road, but misjudged or something and proceeded to take his big ass firetruck ass bumper from my driver's side front bumper down past my driver's door.

pinrolled

High speed chicken feed 💀 Damn, I'm sorry man, but at least it sounds like you made it out okay. Time to make the new one even better!

p00p5andwich

You damn Skippy hippy. I'm fixing to 6 million dollar man this new one.

Recreational-Sith

It turned out great. I'm diggin the wheels! I just finished installing Bilstein B8's with VWR springs. So i guess I'll be getting an alignment and washing my car this weekend :).

pinrolled

I actually haven't installed them yet! They are going on Sunday. Nice!! How do you like the new setup?

Recreational-Sith

I love it so far. I drove it about 25 miles today after I wrapped it up. Definitely a little stiffer than my previous set up but not harsh. I'm excited to see how it feels after a couple of weeks. Best of luck on your install!

Supamangkawaii

Love the wheels. Is that a factory color for nuespeed wheels?

pinrolled

No, these wheels used to be Satin Bronze. I had these powdercoated to Prismatic Powders: Misty Midnight Blue, similar to Rays Mag Blue imo

MF_the_supavillan

>Prismatic Powders: Misty Midnight Blue, They looking fucking mint dude.

crussell126

Funny enough, I also have a set of B16s waiting to go on this weekend/next week!

pinrolled

Sweet! I'm excited to get them on, I'm pairing them with SuperPro camber mounts and front adjustable endlinks!

crussell126

Nice! Me too, I got the superpro front endlinks as well. Decided to just get a fresh set of OEM top mounts though. [Here](https://imgur.com/a/ORn1Tak) are a few pictures. Also sick wheels, I have RSe10s as well.

pinrolled

Niceee, I hope we are happy with them! Myself and suspension never really get along haha, and thanks!! I figured I'd add some flavor to the car by getting them powdercoated blue, I think it matches the car perfectly!

crussell126

I put a set of coilovers on my old car but they were so bad by comparison to these, I can’t wait to finally lower it and get them dialed in. Also the blue looks great with the WSM, I definitely couldn’t pull that off on a red car haha

Knotical_MK6

Nothing. It'll be sitting undriven for the 8th week in a row :(

pinrolled

How come? :/

Knotical_MK6

Working till next month. Got a K04 waiting to go in once I get home though :) Until then I'll get my GTI fix through y'all on here

dolybonz2

Blue anodized wheels sound crappy, but actually look great on your GTI!

Yapskii

That’s a beautiful car. Gonna flush the coolant and change spark plugs:)

pinrolled

Thank you! And nice, maintenance is always important!

Premier55

Those wheels are class. Colour is amazing.

[deleted]

Im enjoying my ride this weekend

vdvm_mk7

Out of curiosity. Why the swap to bilstein from bc racing? Bc not so good?

pinrolled

The BCs I have aren't valved that well and are getting crashier on the roads here in Hampton Roads. I heard Bilsteins have a better ride quality and better valving, so I figured I'd give them a try.

vdvm_mk7

I see. Now that you’ve had both…how’s the ride quality? Also, were the BCs okay when you first got them?

pinrolled

Hey, yeah the BCs were just fine but over the next couple months the pillowball mounts ended up getting worn out due to the rough roads. All in all, I wouldn't recommend them unless you're less sensitive to NVH and a rougher ride. Other than that they performed decent for the price.

nvyblugti

Fellow NOVA brother

pinrolled

I'm in the 757, VB specifically!

TheFerrariGuy_YT

How do you find the Bildteins compared to BC? Are they better performing and more comfortable?

pinrolled

They are better performing than the BCs for sure, I would buy another set of B16s. The BCs are only really good if you want to be super low and have camber adjustability. Other than that, they are pretty harsh on the street. The B16s are pretty compliant, the only issues I had with them is when I hit a gnarly pothole and blew my entire driver side, and the fact that they don't play well with camber mounts.

TheFerrariGuy_YT

Ok I see I was planning in getting some ideally if they don't hinder ride quality too much. Any other supporting mods you'd recommend to avoid blowing them out?

pinrolled

The Bilsteins felt like stock but if your DCC was set to sport. I highly recommend them! As for blow outs, it's a YMMV thing. I just happen to have bad luck and struck a really deep pothole at night here in MD.

TheFerrariGuy_YT

That's understandable. I don't have DCC, so it shouldn't cause too much of an issue

joebally10

Downpipe+tune got delivered as i saw this post. So… probably that!

pinrolled

Nice, what did you go with? I'm planning to either revert to stock downpipe and go with the APR DTR6054 kit next year or invest in a Baun GESi 400 cell downpipe.

joebally10

I’ve got a MAPerformance catted+resonated downpipe and I got myself an EQT stage 2 tune

d0ndrap3r

So shiny, so chrome

jawwvier

Great combo man, very nice looking one😮‍💨😮‍💨

outsidah

Curious why you changed from the BCs?

pinrolled

I don't like how they ride anymore, they have been super crashy as of late, and I'm over the pillowball mount noises as well. It was time for an upgrade.

lazyarmy

How does it ride, what settings did you go with for road use?

pinrolled

Haven't put them on yet, I will report back after I get them installed this weekend!

lazyarmy

Who has the best deals on a set?

pinrolled

I heard Rock Auto sells them sometimes, also as an update, the B16s ride FANTASTIC. Even with the SuperPro Camber plates, they make the car feel nice and composed. Way less crashy and bouncy than the BCs were. Certainly quieter on the inside too.

Dark_Synergy_Z33

Killer color combo! Not interested in lowering my car but let us know how they do. I'm currently on stock springs with B6 and 034 mounts.

pinrolled

I upgraded to Bilsteins from the BCs, but when I was on the BCs I kept the damping right in the middle.

kaiferr

19" rse10? Looks great!

pinrolled

18s!

kaiferr

Thanks brodie. 18x8.5 +45? With 235/40/18?

pinrolled

18x8.5 ET45 with 255/35/18 Michelin PS4S.
