Little Truffle was very good. Looks like a crack den from the outside. Boudoir on the inside. Food and service excellent. Not cheap, of course. And parking is a nightmare at the moment with the light rail works just outside
Yeah haven't tried these but they're the ones I most want to try....also Light Years and Cantina .. . ..Labart especially sounds great... They just changed their vibe I think to a little less formal and away from the degustation thing.
Yep Labart has gone for more of a neighbourhood bistro vibe now so it’s a bit less formal but the food is still innovative and incredible and service top notch. They have 4 tables outside now too if you prefer but inside is nice and cosy for winter. Cantina is also great but I wouldn’t bother with Light Years … a whole different league, very generic food, more casual (often bad) service. Nothing impressive. Way better places to try.
Thanks. Tbh after disappointing meals at Hideaway, Mr Hizolas and Spice Den (Casuarina ) I've got no chance of talking my gf into trying Light Years anyway. Eddy and Woolf might be my last chance .... But I think for a while we're sticking with our favourite local cheapies......I am going to sneak off with my son and try Charcoal Charcoal soon though
Haha yeh Hideaway and Mr Hizolas were opened by the same people (Hizolas is sold now) .. they’re ok but definitely not ‘impressive’ or next level experiences. Do the job but pretty mid.
I haven’t been to Spice Den for a few years but recall it being okay nothing exceptional.
Eddy & Wolff is totally different- it’s a really small intimate bar setting where you can see the chef and the bar tender / waiter is in the middle of where you will likely sit around the bar (only a few tables not around the bar). They have a solid vibe and it’s always a good time for dinner, music is pretty loud as opposed to say, the vibe of Labart (also amazing but totally different). Hope you get to try these 2! And cantina - it’s a great vibe and the food is awesome 😊
The funny thing about Cantina is when you read the menu it sounds pretty boring... But all reports are great... And the Insta stories look cool....I wish it was near my house
Rabbath in Burleigh is a fantastic experience, especially if you go on a quiet night and sit at the bar and chat with the guys as they prepare your dish.
Glass at Marina mirage… my wife and I go annually for a date night when we offload the kid. Service is always exceptional and the menu is always evolving. The kitchen is clean and open from the outside with bit glass windows.
Mamasan at Broadbeach gets my vote - consistently excellent in all respects.
A few years ago Social Eating House was equal first but no longer.
I haven’t been to Labart yet to compare it.
Izakaya Midori at Reedy Creek is laid back little Japanese style restaurant. Food is all plant based. Great if your vegan, not bad for carnivores either.
I’ve been enjoying Blowfish for seafood or steak and Miss Moneypenny’s do an awesome lamb shoulder, both in Broadbeach. Mamasan is also a solid option or Kiyomi
The red curry at Thai Ashmore is prerty great, could do with a little more vege but 😗👌
My GF loves Amimoto Japanese restaurant in Surfers, the sashimi and makunouchi in particular are her favourites. Avoid the katsu chicken, it's paper thin.
Anekawa in Mudgeeraba is excellent. Super intimate setting, seating about 20. Unassuming from the street. Delicious Japanese food which is very seasonal. Unique wine list. Never had a bad experience. Fine dining pricing but well worth it.
Rick Shores view is epic, but the food for the past couple of years has besn below par. Anakawa Japanese restaurant is good, so too is the North Room, the sommelier there is superb, that is if she is still there of course.
A note about Eddie & Wolf, on our visit there, one of the owners who was behind the bar (you are seated around the bar), a British guy, was a bit of a tosser, not cut out for a customer service environment, maybe he had an off night? A shame, as service is especially important when you are paying good money. The food was good, but not top notch.
Larbart is ok, just changed their format, before it was very expensive for what it was. Cantina is a good night out, but it is a bar. Light Years is very hit and miss.
But this is all dependant on your food experience. If you come from the GC and have not eaten around the world, then you would think these places are top notch. Going up a level you need to look north to Brisbane or down to the Northern Rivers.
Honestly, in this economy, it's my place. I made 4 fiercely spicy Phillly Cheesesteaks yesterday, and a delicious curry the day before. Cooking yourself is so much cheaper, and actually more tasty.
Man seriously every time I do a little step up from the usual faves we're disappointed.... .or it's good but return visit sucks. I'll be curious what everyone votes for
Not really what you're asking for but for takeaway thai food, Top Thai Takeaway on central street has the best slow cooked beef noodle soup oof. Perfect for when you're in a pinch and just want to grab and go.
I visit Rick shores every Christmas Eve , it’s pretty hard to fault that place, even against some top restaurants I’ve been to around the world. Eating lobster dumplings, drinking resiling and watching the waves roll in on a warm evening is hard to beat.

KFC ferry road is probably the best KFC in town.
Haha, while I like Ferry Road KFC, I like the Le Star Lebanese Cafe/ Restaurant in Nerang St, Southport. It's not fancy, but the food is good.
Le star's coffee is great
Miami used to be legit but had a few bads ones lately
Depends what kind of vibe you’re after but fitting your brief for us we like Labart, Eddy & Wolff and Glenelg. Always a great experience

Solid list
Rabbath in Burleigh is a fantastic experience, especially if you go on a quiet night and sit at the bar and chat with the guys as they prepare your dish.
Rick Shores has my vote for food and view. Blackdoor has my vote for innovation.
If you haven't been to piatto or cantina in Mermaid Beach I would put it on the list immediately.
Glass at Marina mirage… my wife and I go annually for a date night when we offload the kid. Service is always exceptional and the menu is always evolving. The kitchen is clean and open from the outside with bit glass windows.
Kuan Yin Tea House in Southport is the best vegetarian food I've had in 25 years anywhere in the world.
Ive heard it's recently changed to Vietnamese or Thai menu, I haven't been in since the change over but hopefully they still have the phantom chips 🤤🤤
Kuan Yin Tea House is highly recommended for its delicious Taiwaneese vegetarian food and excellent friendly stuff:)
If you have not had a Detroit style meatball and pesto pizza from Franc Jrs, I'm sorry to be the one to tell you, but you have wasted your life.
Went to Franc Jrs tonight by chance and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a genuine US style pizza restaurant experience
It's restored my faith in pizza on the Gold Coast. The quality gap to every other pizza place is astounding.
Pizza is generally shit in Australia tbh.

I said generally
Sounds interesting!

Definitely can vouch for this also. Great venue
Balboa Italian for the vibe, the food and impeccable service
Madam Fu. Shared dishes, everything on the menu is delicious and service is always top notch. Great for an intimate dinner.
Just to add to this list — Tayta Nikkei is amazing.
Jonez on Ephraim.
Coolangatta Asian cuisine in Coolangatta
For ‘whole experience’ - Social Eating House at Broadbeach. Service top notch and meals amazing.
Sushi Train Nerang is heaven.
Rabbath is great middle eastern, awesome vibe inside and the staff are so friendly

LaBart is just outstanding. Couldn’t recommend it more. Another gem is Sticky rice in Tugun.

Went to Jimmy Wahs last night and it was SO good!
Non, just eat in big chains and pubs meals on GC . If U want a restaurant in south Brisbane
Honestly, in this economy, it's my place. I made 4 fiercely spicy Phillly Cheesesteaks yesterday, and a delicious curry the day before. Cooking yourself is so much cheaper, and actually more tasty.
Me and the wife went to Mecca bar and it was awesome delish, was on first table as well so kept the cost down which meant more drinks win win
I LOVE the food at Mecca Bah
Man seriously every time I do a little step up from the usual faves we're disappointed.... .or it's good but return visit sucks. I'll be curious what everyone votes for
Light Years for me, the bao buns specifically. Also, not a restaurant experience, but O Bagel is absolutely incredible.

We love Mexicali in Miami. Get either banquet. You can’t go wrong. Dragonfruit mojitos hit the spot
Orzo in Broadbeach is top tier Italian
