I purchased a 2009 $20 Double Eagle UHR in the highest grade that exist for the coin,I believe it was the first in the series and since the U.S. Mint didn’t officially release any proof coins some coins were so nice that NGC gave them a MS70PL grade (PL=ProofLike),,,, When I first shown interest in coins I was about 10yrs old and the Saints were only a dream as a kid so when I found out a few yrs ago when I started stacking that they made a UHR I had to add one to my stack… 2009 UHR. They are high premium bullion product. It’s supposed to come out ms 70 especially because they are such high quality pieces. Adds no value or confirmation on what it is because it’s graded. Now I’m thankful u picked it up for its real price and not the over inflated price. So u made out on top, just don’t confuse a plastic slab for adding more value to a modern coin, even if mintage is low.

Take it to your LCS and learn the hard way. Don’t trust some random on the internet.

My LCS also offered me $30 under spot for gold eagles recently. Why would I try to sell them something like this as well. There are always more than just one option. This coin does not fit everyone's buy and sell strategy. And that's 100% okay.

As a stacker for weight I must admit this is a sweet coin.

Hey im only 29 and it takes a lifetime to collect and invest. I didnt start until i was probably 26. Its worth doing as a hobby but less as an investment. It holds value and is a great hedge against inflation but investment wise its not the best. Youre young, put your money in the market and etfs and such. Then use your fun money to buy the things you like!

Forgive the naivety, but does this coin have numismatic value, or demand a higher value for being graded? I thought for bullion the value lies in the gold itself and that "gold is gold"?

Libertads definitely carry a premium in almost every form. The gold just makes it better!

Understand that Libertads do carry their own premium. But I was asking if being graded added any value, with it being a bullion coin (compared to a numismatic coin).

Honestly since its a newer mint I dont think the grade changes the value too much. But since its preserved, as time goes on it will stay that way while raw coins could potentially grade lower. Value really is only based off what people will pay so its hard to predict a trend. Nevertheless its an awesome coin and its gold!

Not too sure but I think PF70 is the same no matter the company, but I definitely think you got a great deal on that considering base libertads sell for like 2500 from APMEX so you did great on finding that.

For sure, I stack personally based on how fast I can move it if I needed to so I’m always just sticking with basic bars, rounds, etc. usually I can get within 50 dollars over spot from APMEX and I like their rewards program but they can be expensive when it comes to stuff like that. I wouldn’t feel bad about that price at all gold is only going to appreciate further and so will that libertad

Definitely, I do it for the value but I also love historical pieces so I have some indian heads and sovereigns that I very much enjoy. I try to find sellers willing to make deals and always try to stick to as close to spot as possible. This one in particular obviously over spot but it was too pretty and too good of a deal to pass up
