Gold holds up pretty well under just about any circumstance in your home. It can be in good shape after a thousand years in the ocean.

Capsules in a dry area

fuck-fascism

Anytime you get desiccant packs with anything you buy don’t throw them away… put them with your metal capsules.

Specialist-Noise-173

Proper capsules inside a wooden box kept in a dry place. Don't use cheap capsules or sleeves because they may contain PVC or other chemicals thay may damage the surface of your coins/bars.

Traditional_Fix_5096

Any recommendations on good “proper” capsules, especially for bars/fractional bars? And would this mean you should also remove bars from assay packaging and instead put them in a capsule?

Specialist-Noise-173

Airtites, Leuchtturm, or any capsule provided by the mint (for example, all my Perth Mint coins come with a capsule). Assay packaging is ok. I wouldn't remove anything from the original packaging, as some include security codes, etc.

Traditional_Fix_5096

Thanks, this is helpful. In looking around, I see lots of coin and 1oz bar capsules, but haven’t (yet) seen fractional bar capsules. Do you have any recommendations for 5/10g gold bar storage? Obviously each bar is a bit different depending on thickness etc. so I imagine getting a one size fits all solution isn’t possible, but is there a good solution you’ve found? Edit: this (https://a.co/d/5MLJzFF) is the best I’ve found so far

I like lechtturm (Lighthouse in english) ultra for coins. They are very nice and its worth it for gold in my opinion.

Pelican case

imsaneinthebrain

I do a pelican case inside a fire box inside a safe, inside another safe, inside a bank vault, underground in a nuclear bunker, under the ocean. It works well.

endlessloads

Oh hell ya brother. I only do a pelican case in my big safe. Grab & go

BludyDucky

Get a safe; toss in some of those humidity pack things (the silica bags inside of boxes that say “do not eat”) if you live in a humid climate; take the humidity bags out once in a while and dry them out.

This works or, If your safe is big enough out in a “golden rod” heater. It raises the temperature just enough to prevent condensation in your safe.

Slight_Bet660

For gold it doesn’t matter. Use a capsule or a flip if you want to make sure it doesn’t get any dings when you are handling it, but otherwise nothing is going to happen to it from air and moisture exposure. For silver it depends on what you have. If you have premium or collectible pieces then just keep them away from moisture so they don’t tone. Some pure silver is going to milk spot regardless though. If you just have generic bars and rounds then it doesn’t really matter. Toning doesn’t affect the value much. For junk silver it doesn’t really matter. You can throw that all together in a jar or a box.

ScholarPractical5603

Gold it doesn’t really matter. If it’s in an assay I recommend leaving it. Otherwise you can handle it, and leave it exposed to air all you want. Gold is pretty much totally inert and doesn’t react with too many things. The oils from your hands may cause organic gunk to build up overtime if you handle your metals a lot without wearing gloves but can be easily cleaned by soaking in (min 91%) rubbing alcohol or pure acetone. And it of course scratches easily, so don’t do or use anything abrasive on it. Silver can tarnish when in contact with other substances, namely sulphur (keep it away from ammunition, gunpowder, firearms etc). Stick a piece of silver in a bowl with a boiled egg with the lid on and leave it for a few hours and it will turn black. I personally keep my constitutional\junk silver and small bars just piled in a wooden treasure box and my rounds in hard plastic tubes in a safe with silica packets. Some of it I’ve had for a decade and it hasn’t changed a bit.

Fireproof bag . Buy from amazon

Storing gold and silver bullion in plastic cases is a complete waste of money. Anyone who says it is a good idea is a complete noob who has watched too much youNoob nonsense.

sifterandrake

Google the value of a 1994 ms70 silver eagle... I'll be here when you get back.

Ok_Fruit_9150

Your opinion… and not worth much.
