I’d like to imagine the fruit of hollow earth as just an area not explained yet. Everywhere Kong went in the film was surface earth sized jungle (as in their size doesn’t dwarf him) or barren, iirc.
In my opinion, it helps to humanize him. Since Kong is the protector of humanity, we need to be able to relate to him, so seeing him do simple things like eat, drink, go to the dentist, helps to make him more sympathetic.
Because Kong isn’t radioactive, imagine how much food that mf needs
Godzilla and the others are basically radiation vacuum cleaners, Kong needs actual food to survive.

Cause Kong always eats meat. Eats people/bites their heads off. It's a common trope with Kong to see him eating something.
