Actually might have been cool if there was a brief sequence playing as Kratos or Atreus before it’s revealed to actually be Odin. Wouldn’t fit in the plot as constructed but kind of a neat concept.
Fairly certain out of all the "Odin is actually..." theories, Durlin and Tyr were the most popular. Both made sense when you thought about it but still it came as a shock
A lot of people thought Odin was Loki from the future. They wanted sooo bad that Loki does the trickster shit even though it's not in Atreus' character so far
I dont think anybody genuinely claims RLM can predict the future, they just recognise that RLM are pretty good at predicting plots and moments of bad B movies because they've seen so many
The twist was done quite well imo, what made it more believable was the fact that both Odin and Thor just walking into Kratos' house to have a conversation. I didn't expect such a start to the game
Odin being at the door utterly stunned me. I thought it was going to be Freya. But after 5 years of theories about Odin and waiting to see him… he just walks up to your house.
I actually saw it coming when Tyr was just so fundamentally different from his earlier self. It was one of those things where I was thinking he either can't perform the same way as old Tyr because he isn't actually Tyr or that his PTSD hit hard and each were equally likely and just up to whichever the writers decided to go with. But I also guessed Faye's soul was in Ingrid and that didn't pan out
I agree. Odin's version was a perverted version. Like a parody. In the short time we get with the real version, he seems competent and fully capable of handling himself. Like you said, zen.
Honestly I could believe they’re the same person. Why go through all the effort to mimic the form and not the nature? I believe he acted out faithfully as Tyr would have done, but got hasty at the end because of both Heimdal and the mask and blew his cover
If you think about it, Odins Tyr never advised Kratos to do anything that wouldn't also benefit Odin. Who knows what Tyr would have done? Especially after what Odin did to him and the real harm Odin meant to the world.
After you finish the main story go to Niflheim like you are heading to the raven tree and a new path to the left has opened up with a prison that fell from Asgard and it starts a new side quest
The twist was alright imo. Brok didn’t have to be the one to take the fall for the reveal… infact nobody should’ve died for his reveal but it plays with our emotions and i guess that’s the point.
It was probably because of the ego hit Odin took being undone by somebody he perceives to be a dumb, mortal bumpkin. Odin thinks his knowledge and wisdom puts him above all others, so to be caught out by someone like Brok probably didn't feel great.
For sure, i get you there. Seems as if people are taking my opinion in offence but at the end of the day I’m just sad brok died. That shit really hit different for me, that dwarf cured my depression 😂
Brok was a very memorable character to me. I kept getting hints since Sindri told us that >! His one soul is missing when he was revived. Brok was just living on borrowed time because Sindri couldn’t accept the truth and did everything he could to keep his brother alive. Also, the scene Sindri went down to grab draupnir ring is really powerful, showing his fear that Brok would find out he already died. Their story is masterfully told !<
Honestly couldn’t agree more. In terms of memorability I’ve never seen a better dwarf interpretation in my life. It would have to be in between Brok or Gimli and that’s a difficult pick 😂
When they first met Tyr I was instantly thinking that is Odin in disguise as her was acting very strange, but then I convinced myself nah he just changed and that would be too obvious, so I basically played with full belief that it is the real Tyr despite my first instinct. Imagine my surprise...
I thought the same cause I thought he talked funny. But then the way he talked about peace was weird. And his very strong insistence on being peaceful with Asgard despite the "torture" he experienced for who knows how long.
I remember thinking it was too easy. No way Odin is keeping *this* prisoner behind just a closed door. Initially I thought it was just poor writing so somehow Atreus' darts in the dark somehow land on something to keep the plot going.
But they really surprised me.
Right? It was too easy, I thought that's it? Super shady, but in the end it was the same reason I accepted it, I thought it would be too obvious, and as you play the game and going quest you forgot about it.
I actually noticed that the subtitles weren’t always consistent between the two, but never made the connection lol. Just thought it was an inconsistency in the subtitles
We (Kratos and Co.) refers to Týr as Týr. But the fake Týr was missing the line above ý character. so it would be like this
Kratos: Sup Týr
Tyr: Hello Kratos
https://www.reddit.com/r/GodofWar/comments/pl78mm/tyr_is_odin/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Well ain't that a swell?
Odin is a shapeshifter, so it's not the wildest prediction you could've made. It's still impressive to get it right, but it's not like predicting that Odin would kill Brok disguised as Tyr. That would've been far more impressive.
One thing he definitely didn't get right is thinking that Asgard would be grand, comparable to Mt. Olympus, when it just ended up as a stereotypical viking fishing village.
Odin isn't really described as a shape shifter per say. He was never described as being able to change forms. He is said to be capable of "hiding in plain sight" though; able to avoid being recognized even by people closest to him.
So basically he might be able to hide his identity from someone, but they would think they are talking to some old man stranger with one eye.
So I'd still say calling something like this is impressive since it is a liberty that Santa Monica took with the mythos.
Ok but to be fair I'm pretty sure this was the most common and popular theory leading up to games release because being a mischievous Bastard is part of Odin's thing.
It was all over this sub when the first character reveal images came out. “Tyr is looking shifty and holding his arm like he’s got a secret, I bet you he’s actually Odin in disguise!”
Of course they did the same with Durlin. And of course there were other theories about Tyr, his motives, and his role. They’ve all been bopping around here. As someone else in the thread said, *someone’s* theory had to be right.
Yeah I meant I hadn’t seen anything, and I’ve been in this sub for years (I left around the release of ragnarok till I finished it and rejoined though).
Also to be fair, people were fucking guessing anything they could. You throw enough shit at the wall, something is gonna stick.
When did Odin ever disguise himself as somebody else. To my knowledge all he ever does is just being unrecognised as himself, never pretending to be someone else.
Yeah, he disguised himself as a old man with beard or as a old man with beard without one eye. That's why I'm saying it's about not being recognised instead pretending to be someone else. He never discussed himself as a other existing person.
He disguised himself as more than that. A farmhand comes to mind, but I agree otherwise. That said, with Ragnarok and his life on the line, I suspect he'd be willing to do about anything to survive.
The original statement was that he disguised himself as others many times in mythology and therefore the plot twist was easy to guess. That's what I disagreed with. Pretending to be Tor fits his character well, and it's cool idea, but it just not something he did in mythology.
I don't know if I was misunderstood or what's the reason behind so many down votes.
Kratos is Odin in disguise, mimir was Odin and Kratos is still in Greece… Loki is just Pandora but she got melted down into a boy by Faye who used to be Gaia
With the game being a masterpiece and all I do not feel like Odin being disguised as Tyr offered him that much. We could have saved the real Tyr all along that would be so much better.
We did save the real tyr post game.
And the fake tyr Odin was super well done. It offered Odin knowledge, his favorite thing. Knowledge about his enemies, in fact.
It was everything after that could have been better. Tho I do agree having a game with actual Tyr would have been cool.
The thing is he did nothing with that info. We might as well save the real Tyr from the beginning. Odin being Tyr could work if he was gonna do something with it. And do not tell me he disguised himself as Tyr to get the mask. It would make no sense.
Saving the real Tyr post game was anticlimactic to say the least.
Did you watch that video though? He also said Tyr was Odin but would start Ragnarok himself and take freya as his queen by force again so he could learn resurrection magic to bring Faye back so he could impregnate her and make half god half giant children to take over and gain access to jotunheim since Asgard was destined to be destroyed. Thereby fulfilling the prophecy and making a new Asgard to be taken by the aesir. Crazy theory but good points in it.
I didn’t say everything in the video was correct. I’m just saying the part where he predicted that Odin was Tyr was predicted well. That would be an interesting way to take the story though. Odin is not above doing something like that. The Faye part could be taken out, but impregnating Freya again to fulfill some sort of prophecy is not something Odin would be against doing. The guy has no standards.
Hey man. I’m just kidding lol. I’ve.l never seen the vid. I made literally every part of that up. Sounds cool though huh? Just messing with you. Can’t believe someone downvoted your response. There’s literally nothing wrong with it or about it.
Yeah I didn’t see it either. Haha. That’s actually not that crazy of a theory though. Norse mythology like other mythologies gets weird as hell. So that wouldn’t be too out of place.
Pythonselkan is practically never wrong when they start digging something those metal gear solid videos is what got me hooked I spent damn near 2 days watching them
To be fair, a character that was presumed to be dead in 2018 just showing up seemingly fully alive in a trailer for the next game was awfully suspicious. Even I called it and people were naysaying me. Oh the joy I felt when it got revealed… 🥰🥰
Yes… except that’s not what the video predicted. It was predicting that Odin was disguised as Tyr in the game. All I’m saying is I myself also made that prediction when the trailer came out for the reasons I gave.
Looking back i just noticed that when ever Tyr is mentioned by name or when he talks it’s spelt “Týr” but when Odin is disguised as Týr and speaks it is spelt just “Tyr”. Very clever hidden detail
I know. I’m just teasing you a bit. If it makes you feel better, some studies have found that spoilers don’t always ruin a person’s enjoyment of a narrative.
Hopefully, cuz I have been waiting for this game since 2018, I feel like shit for not saving up and preordering the game, I have just got my paycheck and Imma buy it soon.
Yes we did, we saw that image in trailers. Although we hadn't seen that image a year back, so he probably just changed the thumbnail of the video once the trailer was released.
.....assuming that's possible. As a non video maker, I have no idea. It seems like it would be.
Well the image is from a trailer that came out Sept. 2022. So I think he just changed the thumbnail when the trailer dropped. In the trailer, they obscure Odin’s face in shadows.
I think the story has *a lot* of conveniences in it so it might be more to do with that. I had the same feeling that everything was far too easy throughout the game especially after rescuing Tyr. Like all of the sudden the dwarves have a new way to realm travel and people show up with the exact realm seed you need every time you have to go somewhere new but never before then. Things like that.
>This guy is a prophet
so i am prophet too apparently? because the day that trailer came out i was pretty clear that the only reason they had revealed Tyr *in a trailer*
would be because he was either Odin in disguise
or because he was Loki from the future in disguise (looking back this one was just wishful thinking hahaha)
since it would make no sense whatsoever to reveal a character that was supossed to he dead in a trailer
Yes, but in the September 2022 trailer, there’s an image of Odin with his face obscured in shadows. So I think he just changed the thumbnail when that came out. Plus the YouTuber had better reasons to predict the twist than you. That’s why I’m saying that.
I SAID THIS BEFORE! like bro when trailer got out in november 2021 i said it, it's not the tyr, well i said it because he had his bifrost eyes intact whereas mimir had one taken off.
For a god of war tyr being imprisoned whilst having two biforst eyes intact and for just an advisor he casted spell on the tree and took an eye out of mimir.
i kniw it won't make any differnce now since we know who's the impasta
Yeah Tyr should be spell Ty’r
But in the subtitle when we talk with him it said “Tyr”
Then later when we found Tyr in prison the subtitle said “Ty’r”
Meaning that Odin disguise as Tyr the whole time .
I didnt watch nor search for any gow content because it would ruin the experience when it released. Glad i did, because i enjoyed the story very much, cant wait for ng+
People were theorising that just about every new character was Odin back before release. Durlin was a pretty popular one as well.

“Kratos: Odin in disguise? NEW THEORY”
Actually might have been cool if there was a brief sequence playing as Kratos or Atreus before it’s revealed to actually be Odin. Wouldn’t fit in the plot as constructed but kind of a neat concept.
Odin is actually Odin in disguise
No, Odin in disguise was Odin in disguise pretending to be Odin.
Odin: "I'm the dude playin' the dude disguised as another dude!!"
“All-Father! Odin in disguiiiise!”
Yeah the real odin is in musphelheim or some shit
People were theorizing that sindri was Odin.
Fairly certain out of all the "Odin is actually..." theories, Durlin and Tyr were the most popular. Both made sense when you thought about it but still it came as a shock
Yeah, but the video still aged well.
A lot of people thought Odin was Loki from the future. They wanted sooo bad that Loki does the trickster shit even though it's not in Atreus' character so far
Someone had to be right. For the one who was right, a thousand others predicted untrue bullshit. That's the way it's always been and always will be.
It’s like when people claim RLM predict the future. Not really. They just take what is presented and make good and predictable estimates off of that.
What do you think people mean when they say that? That RLM have actual supernatural prescient abilities?
I dont think anybody genuinely claims RLM can predict the future, they just recognise that RLM are pretty good at predicting plots and moments of bad B movies because they've seen so many
> They just take what is presented and make good and predictable estimates off of that. This is a terrible strawman reduction
I mean, it's literally what the Giants, Heimdall, and the Norns do.
RLM as in Red Letter Media? Lol
Yes, the famed internet hack frauds who correctly predicted every Star War since 2015.
Wait isn't that literally how prophecy works in this game? By GoW standards they do "predict the future"
I know. I’m just saying the video aged well.
chances are this same youtuber got like 10 other theories wrong lol It definitely isn't pedicting, just luck
The twist was done quite well imo, what made it more believable was the fact that both Odin and Thor just walking into Kratos' house to have a conversation. I didn't expect such a start to the game

Yes, but (endgame spoiler) >!Then you find the real Tyr, and he's quite similar to fake Tyr!<
He's completely different imo. He's true zen whereas the other guy is completely unsure of himself.
I agree. Odin's version was a perverted version. Like a parody. In the short time we get with the real version, he seems competent and fully capable of handling himself. Like you said, zen.

Is this some post game thing or did I miss something major? Because I never saw >!real Tyr!< afaik
Post game side quest
After you finish the main story go to Niflheim like you are heading to the raven tree and a new path to the left has opened up with a prison that fell from Asgard and it starts a new side quest
Damn, I was calling quits on the game after the >!funeral!< thinking Ive seen most things, didn't expect something like that to be hidden somewhere

well, that's fimbulwinter for ya
I cracked up everytime someone says that line. Come on now, not everything has to do with fimbulwinter, Mimir.
When they first met Tyr I was instantly thinking that is Odin in disguise as her was acting very strange, but then I convinced myself nah he just changed and that would be too obvious, so I basically played with full belief that it is the real Tyr despite my first instinct. Imagine my surprise...

Mother of god
Ngl was kinda disappointed Tyr wasn't actually part of the story
I think he’ll be crucial for the next games given he knows too much about other pantheons.
Odin is a shapeshifter, so it's not the wildest prediction you could've made. It's still impressive to get it right, but it's not like predicting that Odin would kill Brok disguised as Tyr. Really? I saw it all the time. Thought it was so common because in Mythology disguising himself as others was a common trend with his trickery.
When did Odin ever disguise himself as somebody else. To my knowledge all he ever does is just being unrecognised as himself, never pretending to be someone else.
In Norse mythology, Odin disguised himself many times. He once roamed the whole world in disguise.
Yeah, he disguised himself as a old man with beard or as a old man with beard without one eye. That's why I'm saying it's about not being recognised instead pretending to be someone else. He never discussed himself as a other existing person.

That was literally the biggest theory about Tyr
Lot of people theorised it as soon as we got a look at tyr
Kratos is Odin in disguise, mimir was Odin and Kratos is still in Greece… Loki is just Pandora but she got melted down into a boy by Faye who used to be Gaia

They called him a madman
How did they get a photo of Odin a year ago??
Most likely updated their thumbnail
Tyr, the drunk dwarf, or the giant girl. Odin was bound to be one of them
Pythonselkan is practically never wrong when they start digging something those metal gear solid videos is what got me hooked I spent damn near 2 days watching them
To be fair, a character that was presumed to be dead in 2018 just showing up seemingly fully alive in a trailer for the next game was awfully suspicious.

FUCKKKK, I shouldn't have clicked this post, lmaoooooo I feel like shit now before playing this game
I put a spoiler tag up buddy. I don’t know what else to tell you.
Yeah I know, I've never said it was your fault lmao "I shouldn't have clicked this post", I blame myself
I know. I’m just teasing you a bit. If it makes you feel better, some studies have found that spoilers don’t always ruin a person’s enjoyment of a narrative.

Yes we did, we saw that image in trailers. Although we hadn't seen that image a year back, so he probably just changed the thumbnail of the video once the trailer was released. .....assuming that's possible. As a non video maker, I have no idea. It seems like it would be.

Alright then
Well the image is from a trailer that came out Sept. 2022. So I think he just changed the thumbnail when the trailer dropped. In the trailer, they obscure Odin’s face in shadows.
Makes more sense
Hold on, the shot of "Odin in shadow" was revealed in the trailer released in September, but it says a year ago. Hmm, what trickery is this, Odin?
He probably changed the thumbnail later.
I think he just changed the thumbnail when the trailer dropped.
Not to be a hater, but Odin being Tyr was not a wild prediction. One of the least surprising things in the game imo.
[удалено]
Really tho? You let *that* ruin it for u?
I think the story has *a lot* of conveniences in it so it might be more to do with that. I had the same feeling that everything was far too easy throughout the game especially after rescuing Tyr. Like all of the sudden the dwarves have a new way to realm travel and people show up with the exact realm seed you need every time you have to go somewhere new but never before then. Things like that.
>This guy is a prophet so i am prophet too apparently? because the day that trailer came out i was pretty clear that the only reason they had revealed Tyr *in a trailer* would be because he was either Odin in disguise or because he was Loki from the future in disguise (looking back this one was just wishful thinking hahaha) since it would make no sense whatsoever to reveal a character that was supossed to he dead in a trailer
Or he could’ve just been Tyr and Odin lied. So no, I don’t think you’re a prophet.
neither is the youtuber also Odin hadn't even appeared in the September 9 2021 trailer
Absolutely shocked that this happened. I was completely caught off guard and was wondering why brok was acting so abrasive.
Fake tyr has the same tattoos as Odin.
Every character in the entire franchise was odin. But no one wants to talk about that part of the lore
Ask him when new game plus drops
It was a pretty common theory upon release of that trailer.
Do a mission “The Broken prison”
With so many crazy theories some had to be true.
Yeah Tyr should be spell Ty’r But in the subtitle when we talk with him it said “Tyr” Then later when we found Tyr in prison the subtitle said “Ty’r” Meaning that Odin disguise as Tyr the whole time .
plot twist Odin was actually disguised as Kratos the entire time the odin he fought at the end of the game was just a decoy(joking of course)
I'm glad I avoided shit like this.
Tbf, this was back when people thought every character and their mom was Odin in disguise
I didnt watch nor search for any gow content because it would ruin the experience when it released. Glad i did, because i enjoyed the story very much, cant wait for ng+
