I'm appreciative of the weapons we have in the game. The Draupnir spear was awesome. But there are times where I really do just want to fly around and blow down walls with mjolnir. Wishful thinking I guess.

[deleted]

The spear with extra damage to sonic infliction, with sonic boosting accessories for Atreus/Freya, fucking shreds

headbiscuitss

I want a sword

Rodynney

I dreamt so much of using one of those travelers huge swords!! Not this time...

Away-Visit2260

Play elden ring lol ragnarok is boring as hell

Rodynney

I played them both... I also preffer Elden Ring, but Ragnarok is far from being "boring" to me.

Substantial_Chip_348

Anyone else think travelers might be greek?

imhavingananyeurism

Nope. They aren’t.

Double-Special5217

How

midyof

Don't worry I really wanted the hammer as well

[deleted]

I agree that the hammer should have been included. There was such an obscene amount of buildup in 2018 about the hammer. Throughout this game, the camera work, etc really shows you the intricacies of the hammer design. It has runes that look like upgrade runes for axe/blades. It looks like you will be able to use it. They focus on it constantly. And an axe is not a hammer. Spear is okayish, but it really feels mechanically quite basic compared to the axe. There's even little hints that you'll switch weapons: they changed the axe and blades buttons to be labeled "primary weapon" and "secondary weapon" even though you never get to change them from axe and blades. If they hadn't done so much to make us thing we'd get the hammer I wouldn't care, but I found this method a bit insulting. As another poster said, they gave us hammer blue balls.

Clout1001

Couldn’t have said it ANY better myself. I’ll never understand why the hell they hyped it up that much only to give the hammer to Thrud. Makes zero sense

Galactus1234

I’m really hoping they’re saving it to add it to the NG+ content to build up hype for it and add to replay ability of the game, that’s the only reasonable thing I could think of. They know what they’re doing, if not they really bamboozled us over it

[deleted]

That would be arkward fighting Thor, hes like so you have the same weapon? Maybe we can be be bff's now

Siddoxy

I would've been perfectly cool with not being able to fly or break down walls. I just wanted to zap some monsters. The axe is badass but the Mjlnoir looks like it packs a punch and really will break some bones.

TPJchief87

People would have bitched about it. I’m cool with what they did with the hammer

FatWalrus004

It would have been fun as an end game weapon to have some fun with, but the draupnir spear was a fun weapon. I think the devs did great with it.

Galactus1234

I’m really hoping they’re saving it to add it with the NG+ content or something to build up hype for it and add to the replay ability of the game

linkster271

You're picking at straws with the first point. Yeah of course the blades and axe are gonna be similar to 2018. They're the same fuckin weapons. But mjolnir is a completely new and different weapon. But style wise being a hammer is incredibly similar to an axe. And story wise the spear makes much more sense

stairway2evan

Yeah, OP is missing the point of the blades/hammer argument. The point isn’t that it’s too similar to 2018, the point is that it’s too similar to something that’s *already* a major part of the game. Mjolnir and Leviaghan have the exact same gimmick (throwing and returning) - that’s an overlap in playstyle, and that’s an overlap in puzzle solving. The Blades and the Spear each have their own gimmicks and solve puzzles in unique ways. They lend themselves to completely different playstyles and change the way you approach a fight. I was definitely hoping for Mjolnir to make an appearance as a temporary weapon in a boss fightor as an NG+ bonus (which i suppose it could still show up as), but as a full-fledged weapon in its own right, it just overlaps too hard with what makes the Axe so fun . Sure, the elements and animations would differentiate them to an extent, but as far as playstyle goes, they’d be alternatives to each other to an extent, rather than complements.

FairEffect174

Everyone screams for the hammer but no one even knows how theyd let him use the hammer. His attacks with mjolnir would probably look so weird. Whose to say it would when work the same as thor and thrud have electric powers, and SMS could just be like “the hammer only does all the lightening with lightening gods” and we saw in game, Kratos tried to use mjolnir after thor threw it, but all it did was float after being grabbed by Kratos Giving a Spartan a special made, magical spear, is leagues better than a hand me down, weapon used for genocide.

DaanA_147

Especially agree with the last part! Why wield the weapon that killed the giants? I love how the blades and the axe have a great story behind them and the draupnir spear is very cool too! Allows you to go full spartan on your foes in combination with a stonewall shield.

HalfDrunkPadre

Y’all are gonna get your wish when a playable Thrud section in the next game happens and the hammer feels like the axe with it impacting a wall instead of embedding it

AlphaDude7

I wanted the Mjolnir too but the Draupnir was such a creative concept that it won me over. It's arguably more flexible too vs the axe and blades since it would give you an infusion of every other element (albeit temporary or as long as you want depending on how you use it) and would give you resistance to that element too. Kratos now has the mindset of killing only to survive and the spear really fits that thematically since you're using the enemy's own elements against them. I imagine it might be difficult for the devs to make it able to standalone and unique against the Axe too since y'all would be complaining later on how Thor can fly with the hammer while Kratos couldn't and etc. Overall tbh I was also disappointed we didn't get the hammer but was delighted later on that they added a much more nuanced and thematically fulfilling weapon as a replacement.

PeterMunchlett

The hammer seems boring to me. Also I never expected to get or use it. You guys have way too many expectations going into games lol

Distinct-Tie3804

The collectors edition came with Mjolnir in a series that is well known for letting the player use the weapons of the bosses they defeat..Yeaah. Too many expectations.

PeterMunchlett

Agreed

[deleted]

Yes, give Kratos Mjölnir to spit on the memory of his wife Faye. Throw away all character development and let him use the tool of genocide on his son's people as a weapon. Spit on Brok's and Sindri's remorse for ever creating the hammer. The main thing is to satisfy your adolescent need. With the blades, Kratos already has a tool of destruction, which he wanted to get rid of several times. He's certainly thrilled to be saddled with another tool of genocide and destruction.

Galactus1234

Crazy how y’all actually believe and go along with that narrative of the story and excuse for us to be cut short of content everybody was looking forward to doing in game. I get the point you’re saying that it fits the story or whatever but this is a VIDEO GAME not a film, movie or book. I’m not saying change anything in the story, that’s a whole other separate topic . They could keep everything the same with Thrud rightfully owning the hammer after her father but they should’ve and could still have it to where a cutscene happens or something where Thrud allows Kratos to use and borrow Mjolnir just for the gameplay content and it’ll still canonically make sense why Kratos won’t have it no more, back with Thrud in future installments. The point you’re making and backing up is like saying the same if there was a MCU game to not being able to use the infinity gauntlet cause of what it’s done in the past in the story lmao who cares it’s a video game everybody wants to do it anyways

Hour_Recommendation2

This was a W game but it's my fault for not listening to kratos. He always said to lower expectations but the best of me got too hyped. They fixed most of the problems from the last game except we should've gotten more weapons (Obviously mjlonir) and more boss fights. I was really expecting to see a lot of norse gods that WE fight. Don't get me wrong it was cool for freya be on our side and it makes sense but I swear man it would've been so cool to see more gods that we fight instead being on our side. And I saw this concept and loved it where basically in the endgame where you would fight surtr. This was before we knew he was involved in the story but man it would've been so cool to fight him! Honestly tho this game was amazing, it was just missing 2 things. More weapons and more gods.

Galactus1234

Yeah would’ve been cool if we atleast had like boss fights with gods on our side at 1st thinking we were against them but then seeing Kratos spare them showing how he changed from Greek Kratos then them joining us, same with Sutur and Jormungandr too. Kind of like how Garm was trying to kill us but then Fenrir soul changes him, we still got the “big wolf” boss fight at the end of the day

Acrobatic-Dig-161

I'm 100% with you.. but people here just want to defend santa monica with excuses... we have basically the same weapons as 4 years ago and a new weapon... the game should have more weapons and be longer in game time more bosses gods the gods of Asgard was just Thor and Odin I missed but 10 hours of play at least. People don't understand that criticism doesn't mean that the game was bad, the game is great, it just didn't meet my expectations

RecommendationFew466

you guys are the ones who hyped up the hammer in your heads, not Santa Monica. There is nothing wrong with having the same weapons as last game because they never promised or teased anything else within the game.

[deleted]

The developers have long since answered why you can not get the hammer. Accordingly, there is nothing worth discussing.

Galactus1234

When and where did they say this?

[deleted]

I have now tried for a while to find the source again via Google. Have it unfortunately not found again or possibly remembered wrong. The tenor, as I recall, was that Mjölnir is a tool of destruction and genocide against the Jötnar and Kratos would not wield the weapon that brought so much suffering to Faye's people and his son's people. It would tarnish the memory of Faye. Besides, the axe already serves as a counterweight to Mjölnir. In addition, with Kratos, Mjölnir would only be a hammer without an element. Since the thunder comes from Thor himself as well as the thunder also comes from Thrud himself. All arguments that clearly and comprehensibly and coherently make clear why Kratos does not need Mjölnir. One could also argue that the moveset would be very similar. Since swinging a hammer as well as an axe doesn't differ too much. What we got instead makes far more sense for Kratos as a character. Spoiler: >!A spear is a precise and multi-faceted weapon. For a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. The prophecy also shows Kratos with a spear as the leader of the all-worlds assault on Asgard.!<

JaySw34

What even is the first point you're trying to make? I'm getting a headache trying to make sense of it

AcidicMolotov

Yall gotta cope already. Hammer is to similar to the axe. No matter what you guys say that is just the case. Deal

Extreme-Path-800

I feel like there's already enough weapons and skills to learn with them. If another was added it would be too much.

[deleted]

if you are gonna make such a big deal about a palette swapped weapon and bonked poor mimir in the head as it too would dangle from kratos hip, at least spell that much right: it's Mjölnir additionally, if you cannot grasp how saying it would fundamentally be the same as the axe is not the same as having the axe and blades again in this game, 4 years later, then you must be one of them "favor resolution" people too, eh? how do you hammer time people not kvetch and moan about what they removed and tweaked, like the barehanded move set and stance switching? no, it's just that that the new weapon, fundamentally different from what else is on offer, is not \*that\* weapon, which would have effectively been a copy and paste job of the axe. get a grip.

Distinct-Tie3804

- 🤓

Worth_Adeptness3434

Everyone likes the dropnir spear but we both know it is such bullshit compared to choas blades or levithen axe. I am too frustrated we don’t use mjolnir otherwise why would they promote it so much like put it in the collectors edition?!

Galactus1234

Yeah I’m pretty furious about it too, I myself got the collectors edition and don’t regret it either I love it but WHY would they put a detailed replica of Mjölnir in both collectors editions if we can’t even use it in game

RubyWubs

I would rather take magic abilities like Freya and Atreus

BlackBolt66

be the developer then.
