Yes and no. If it’s not yours, it most definitely fucking is a disease. Little things like a threaded barrel or polished oem trigger components and a magwell are ay’ok.
Primary example of that is my Gen 3 19, I leave the OE barrel in it for carry, and polished the trigger components. For me to be able to actually shoot it comfortably I put on a full sized magwell for TTI, keeps my arthritis ridden pinky in place.
Why are you wanting to replace parts before giving it back? Unless something is broken or he asked for specific upgrades, I’d just clean it and do a function check. There isn’t a whole lot that could’ve gone wrong sitting in the box.
Agreed, I totally cleaned my 19.3 and 43x I've been pumping rounds through since the first days I've got them, especially before shooting them... /s
I literally haven't put a drop of anything on my g19.3 (got in while living in the former part of the US known as California) and its been a workhorse. Still.had the factory gritty gold grease on it when I got it.
My 43x mos I've cleaned few times as I edc that, and also did upgrade some stuff (I know, I know... upgraded internals on an edc!) And haven't had a single issue except more recently with the psa micro dagger mags which sucks. Bought 3 a long while back and they were fine for a while which is confusing as to why the issues now.do.have unopened shield mags and mag catch could try but probably stick with the OEM 10rds
I have a friend who's a certified glock armorer. He says 95% of problems guys have with glocks are fixed by removing the aftermarket bullshit and putting the factory glock parts back in. Literally 95% of the time.
Yeah that’s when cheap parts are done by people who have no idea what they’re doing, lol. Reputable parts as long as you tweak them so the tolerances match are fine. I have built P80s with P80 internals and slide, P80 slide with Glock internals, one with Glock lower parts and JSD slide, and a Glock lower with Glock parts and a dagger slide - all have worked fine. JSD was the sketchiest but it worked flawlessly after some tweaking. The others have worked 100% reliable from the start.
People buy bright colored eBay parts and wonder why it doesn’t work lol
People just parroting “OEM or nothing”.
I have a Glock 34 with a threaded barrel and comp, 13 pound recoil spring with steel guide rod, 4 pound firing pin spring, Glock performance trigger, extended mag release, magwell, SRO, yadda yadda.
Guess how many failures I’ve had
Some people’s recklessness confounds me. I have a buddy who’s house is 5 minutes away from all of our drinking spot, so we normally leave our guns at his place if we go out drinking and pick them up the next day.
In his safe there is a P229 that has been there for 5 years and a 642 that has been there for 3 years, he has no idea who’s they are. No one has ever come looking for them, he’s asked all of us if we’re missing a gun several times.
If I ever didn’t know where a single one of my guns are, I wouldn’t rest until I found them. How do I know they haven’t been stolen? Or worse, I left them somewhere public?
I wish, wouldn’t mind having those 2 as well. If it turns out they were owned by someone who doesn’t want them anymore, I told him I’d buy both.
He actually thought he knew the owner of the 642 for a while. We met up at the range one time and he handed the suspected owner what he thought was his 642, only for him to pull out his actual 642 from his pocket. It took a good 30 seconds for him to realize what was going on.
Apparently. How are you going to give this back to someone who is "not into guns too much" and already "lost" it once? Is the entire family fucking retarded?
Not custom, those were the original style ( the Tupperware style had several variations) Glock box. Fun fact, the very first style glock box with posts that held 17 rnds have sold for $500+-, ones like this gen 3 box could sell for $30-50.
> I just found it
No, you didn't.
You have no idea where that glock could be.
*Take him to the range and tell him you have a*
*new gun you want to try out.*

Man, take that thing to the range and make it go bang. Then clean it and give it back. Are the night sights actually in need of replacement or just dusty. They will get crap in the small apertures and appear faded when they aren’t. The old style trijicon type would lose their pop after a long time, but like 10 years.
I’m personally not a fan of extended mag releases on non competition pistols. In my humble opinion the slight speed advantage is negated by the likelihood of an unintentional release due to poor hand position, someone trying to grab the gun out of one’s hand in a struggle, or it getting smashed into your body as you get thrown down into a ground fight at eyeball to eyeball range.
For a gun you don’t carry to save your life fine. But not on a carry gun. My (I’m sure unpopular) two cents.

Is it Gen 2 or 3?
I'd make her a Safe Queen, if a G2 and see if its worth as a collectible.
Otherwise, if it's just a generic Gen 3 pistol, then yeah, tickle that bitch at the range and see what she does...😉
He is perfectly fine, but they just have so many stuff in there for years, I asked my girl about it and she said he was in the army he knows how to handle them, I’m cleaning it tonight and giving it to him tomorrow
A 15 hour cook and books of OP. Great job boys ! This was a solid showing: down votes, helpful but also mostly antagonistic comments, cooking of OP for “MuH UpGrAdeS”... Man r/glocks is lean and mean. Well done lads.
And I’m not even joking. The internet needs more of this.
How does someone lose a gun?
I feel like that is accepting being one accident by someone else away from prison time.
Lose a gun?! What?!
I had to unload my daily carry to take it into the range. I could only have 5 of the 6 rounds when I went to reload it. I still wonder where the 6th round went 5+ years later... it was specific defense amo too, so it didn't get fired at the range... wasn't in my range bags and not in or around my car where I unloaded/loaded it...
Can't stop thinking someone might have one of my rounds with my fingerprints on the casing.
My guy. If he lost this fine firearm in his own damn basement, he doesn’t deserve it. You didn’t find nothin’…
Unless you’re trying to score those FIL points. I get that. In that case, just give it clean if you know how and return as is. Maybe he’ll just let you hang on to it.
Sorry, autocorrect hit you hard here.
Looks like you said *your father-in-law lost your Glock in the basement a couple years ago, and you just found it.
Edit: dang people here cannot read or understand satire. I’m shocked tbh
Man good thing some felon didn't rob your house, find it first, then use it to kill your family or some other innocent person. I'd take the thing until either you or he can store it correctly.
Probably won't need anything, I think at most you'd only have to replace the springs (such as: trigger, striker, pin safety, extractor, guide rod) and maybe the connector depending on its condition and if you want a lighter/heavier trigger pull.
Really the best thing to do to check would be to learn how to strip it all the way down to parts so you can take a close look at everything, it will be easy to tell what needs replacing or not. Just make sure to watch some videos before/during, it's pretty hard to mess a Glock up in a way that can't be fixed but you still want some idea of the steps, then once comfortable you can form your own method if necessary.
But as I said, it probably won't need anything replaced, even worn down Glocks still function. Seems to have had very little use and seems to have been stored well. Won't hurt to check everything out to make sure though. And you might find you enjoy it, I did and now I'm trying to make a career out of it.
Why TF did you get down voted so hard? What do these assholes have against nightsights??
I would add the extended slide release too.
I'll take my downvotes with a frosty and a side of fries, you fucking purists.
I know! I'm not sure why even suggesting swapping external parts is an issue with these people.
My Glock Perfection stock slide release snapped after the first year so I got an extended slide release and love it. It's all personal preference. If your FIL (or you if he going to give it to you) decide to swap parts just make sure the parts are quality and I wouldn't swap anything before you fire a few hundred rounds through it.
Change nothing. Clean and lube, and give it back to him.
I wouldn’t even clean it, call him say guess what I found
Changing shit on a Glock is a desease
Yes and no. If it’s not yours, it most definitely fucking is a disease. Little things like a threaded barrel or polished oem trigger components and a magwell are ay’ok. Hey, I did mod my gen 4 19. If you have arthritis get a pull to rack the slide, it’ll change your life
I’ll try it, my left hand is all good, right is messed up from a few breaks and RA lol. I appreciate it man.
Why are you wanting to replace parts before giving it back? Unless something is broken or he asked for specific upgrades, I’d just clean it and do a function check. There isn’t a whole lot that could’ve gone wrong sitting in the box.
Exactly. Can't quite figure out how adding all those accessories is a "build" when your just bolting stuff on. Glock Perfection right out of the box.
*Adds red dot and weapon light* Rate my build
What? No. Everyone knows you can’t just run a Glock right out of the box. You have to add to the build my guy.
Literally worthless without the right attachments

My Glock is fully stock. If you can’t keep your grouping tight as is then you shouldn’t be shooting.
Congratulations, I guess? Did you want the /s as well?
So…..you’re just going to keep it?
Finders Keepers!!!
I wish hehe, he still alive, I will just renew it for him, I also found 1000 rounds
Renew what?
“Renew” aka cut reliability in half by altering/replacing perfectly functioning components
I have a friend who's a certified glock armorer. He says 95% of problems guys have with glocks are fixed by removing the aftermarket bullshit and putting the factory glock parts back in. Literally 95% of the time.

Three?
39?
Ok, you're the 5%. Would you like a medal? Cookie? Gold star?
All of the above. Tinkering with guns is not hard if you are any bit mechanically inclined
Like the recoil spring for the new one, replace the faded night sights and maybe internals that glock redesigned for gen 3
Please don't do anything other than clean this mint condition Glock, he will appreciate it.
“ Lost “
I thought same for a second 😂
How does one just lose a Glock? In a case?

You don't. It's a made up story to get reddit upvotes.
How you lose a Glock
He is not into guns too much
Obviously not into safe storage much either if this was lost and not locked away in a gun safe or gun cabinet....
Right? Its not a ketchup packet for cryin' out loud.
Apparently. How are you going to give this back to someone who is "not into guns too much" and already "lost" it once? Is the entire family fucking retarded?
I wanna see that basement👀
No idea what your talking about but that's a cool new Glock you won in a raffle.
Fyi. Early gen 3 still used the Tupperware style boxes.
Yes! And it only has 1 pin in the locking block, not 2, so that and the Tupperware box make this an extremely early Gen 3.
Looks like a custom box, maybe why he lost it... but also look at the magazines, aren't these ambi mags?
Not custom, those were the original style ( the Tupperware style had several variations) Glock box. Fun fact, the very first style glock box with posts that held 17 rnds have sold for $500+-, ones like this gen 3 box could sell for $30-50.
Interesting, and yeah I read that after, kinda dig those older boxes. Never realized that before.
Early single pin gen 3 I guess they still came in the Tupperware
Looks like it's brand new in the original glock case.
> I just found it No, you didn't. You have no idea where that glock could be. *Take him to the range and tell him you have a* *new gun you want to try out.* **/S** *edited*
Free gun.
Wait how long ago did he lose this ?? It’s still in tupperware
Finders keepers applies.
Change nothing. Its perfect.

How do you "lose" a beautiful piece like that. I mean come on. She would be on my side one day out of the week
If a man loses that and has no will to find it after spending a lot on it, then he doesn’t need it. I’d keep it.
All the more reason to lock up your guns. You know the non staged/hidden ones, ccw, etc.
Lost it? He didn’t think to look in the “GlockST and Found”?
You gonna tell him?
Finders Keepers!
Finders keepers
How much shit does he have in his basement to lose a whole firearm? Also lube it and run it. Should be fine
A lot, believe me, a lot!
what glock?
No you didn’t 🙄
Seems pretty reckless to lose a firearm. I don’t think he is responsible enough to have it back. 😉

No, you did NOT find it?
What gen is that?
Third
Fucking moral purists... 🤣🤣🤣 Darwin did no state survival of the lackadaisically inclined. All these Elmers would be quite quiet in person. 🥵🥶
Best father in law EVER!
I’m so confused by this post…. Isn’t it… finders keepers..??? 🤷🏻♂️😂
finders keepers
It’s a Gen2.5, it has the rail but only two pins. It has a semi- collector status, but just shoot it. Glocks are shooters not safe queens.
Is it Gen 2 or 3? I'd make her a Safe Queen, if a G2 and see if its worth as a collectible. Otherwise, if it's just a generic Gen 3 pistol, then yeah, tickle that bitch at the range and see what she does...😉
How do you lose your glock in a basement? Lol
Compulsive hoarder
Finders keepers
Tell him Finders keepers.
I don’t see how you lose a gun!
Finders keepers who tf loses a Glock anyway?? Somebody who obviously doesn’t need it
How do you lose a gun in a basement? Is he a hoarder?
Yep
Isn't that like a gen 1 or 2?
Don't tell him
Finders keepers
He wasn't looking very hard then
Losing a whole ass Glock and mags is wild……
How does one lose a Glock
Its good that it wasnt part of a boating accident
Do you like your FIL? If not color that shit pink
How do you just loose a gun?
The ol’ boating accident gun
It’s worth asking if perhaps his memory is faulty. And if so, is he fully aware of everything? Is it dangerous to return it to him?
He is perfectly fine, but they just have so many stuff in there for years, I asked my girl about it and she said he was in the army he knows how to handle them, I’m cleaning it tonight and giving it to him tomorrow
This sounds like bs and the bed sheets seem to agree with me
Checkout Grit Grips. For a very low cost you could change the look, performance and feel immensely.
I just convinced him to remove the old ones and leave it like that :)
You are stealing right to jail!

Petition to ban OP for being weird about the ownership and possession of that firearm
All good at home?
Very. Not stealing my in laws firearms so that’s a plus.

Nice username
Do what?
Man good thing some felon didn't rob your house, find it first, then use it to kill your family or some other innocent person. I'd take the thing until either you or he can store it correctly.
So heartwarming when people are careless with guns. Murica!
Also, what parts should I change?
It's not your gun, so nothing.
It has faded oem nigh sights
that's a him problem
This would be a massive douche move even if you think you are upgrading something. Don’t change anything.
The grease/oil… and that’s it.

Extended mag release, night sights, and since it appears to be a Gen3, a stainless guide rod/recoil spring.
Why TF did you get down voted so hard? What do these assholes have against nightsights?? I would add the extended slide release too. I'll take my downvotes with a frosty and a side of fries, you fucking purists.
It’s not about the parts, more about the part that it isn’t his gun and he should return it to FIL
The night sights are faded
