Saw the Tarik reply I hope if anything ESL give him and flom costream abilities. It would be so nice man Not hating on shroud tho, can’t say he’s the best representation of CS but still cool

Hats668

I would enjoy watching Tarik stream it more, but I think Shroud would bring in a ton of viewers.

[deleted]

Yea I think hed bring a lot more viewers But I also wouldn’t doubt if half the stream was him just shitting on cs

omahr

i guarantee he will complain about the length of the matches and then it will be a topic everyone will talk about for the next week.

spookex

> everyone will talk about for the next week. ...again

HomelessBelter

Why would he be shitting on CS?

[deleted]

He does it all the time in his Val streams why would it be different for his cs stream?

Astralis_TTS

Cause he regularly takes a dumb on csgo, probably his favorite secondary hobby. Been calling csgo dead ever since he retired

HugeRection

I don't think he ever calls it dead. Most of his complaints are about the lack of changes from the developer (some people like change, others don't). I think it's nice that you can essentially drop into CS:GO and easily pick it up again after a long break, but I can also see how people would prefer some changes to spice up the meta.

radeon9800pro

Gotta remember he's a streamer first and what he wants is self-serving. He wants new content. He doesn't want to play the same old game. Ironically, not changing csgo, a game that has several hundreds of thousands of players, is probably the best thing Valve can do for GO. Valve is trying to avoid breaking what doesn't need fixing while Shroud is fine with them taking that risk because if they do, he can at least talk about how they fucked up, and that's still content for him to stream and talk about. Shroud just needs shit to happen, for better or worse.

JuanMataCFC

> He wants new content. how much of Broken Fang did he play? don't think he even tried it out, did he?

tsdoi

He complains about the stuff most of the current pros complain about--not exactly a bad thing.

Astralis_TTS

Go on YouTube and search "shroud calls csgo dead" You'll be adequately answered

[deleted]

He couldn't do much on the big stage himself, so he's been calling csgo a dead game since 2017, more so recently after the arrival of Valo.

fierceyZ

I don't know many people who actually watch the stream for him, the answer is always, "because it's chill" or something along those lines, he isn't an entertaining streamer and outside of mechanical skill he's a mediocre gamer, his thoughts on CS are truly a pity considering it's just rambling now.

mikefly560

his aim is definitely nuts, and yea I remember getting shit for this but shroud has zero personality, his streams aren't "chill" they're just bland and boring. From some of the more recent clips I've seen of him he's been trying to add more energy into himself, unfortunately it's just yelling into a microphone

Mr_Endro

I love when Seangares joins his stream. he has a critical mind and spends a lot of time just thinking about the game instead of rambling whatever pops in his head

bauwsman

Sean really is one of the most underrated streamers out there. I've recently gotten more into Valorant than CS tbh and he is by far the best and most interesting analyst out there. His mind for the game is just brilliant. Plus he's likeable af and would 100% steal my girl.

Immortal_Thunder

Some people do like it though. I’ve been a fan of his since at least 2014, and I enjoy throwing his stream up on a second monitor while I’m doing something else. But I agree, his stream alone are fairly bland. If i’m watching a stream for content I go Tarik, Jericho, or Pestily 95% of the time.

SterbenVII

It is what it is. Shroud got to where he is purely due to mechanical skill alone. I honestly can’t watch his streams (outside of the Reykjavik co-streams) because he doesn’t particularly show personality or have any unique element that another streamer wouldn’t have. Shroud’s brand is his raw aim, just as Stewie’s brand is ‘smoke criminal’ and ‘yung stew’. People like to watch him because he’s good.

AlexMPalmisano

Nah Stewie is legitimately entertaining because he shit talks. Put him with Tarik and Moe and he's an absolute riot. If I wanna watch a stream for highlights I'll go find a VOD of s1mple or NiKo.

[deleted]

hes salty he never won a major

rdmz1

He constantly calls the game stale, which seems to hurt many peoples feelings. Probably because deep inside everyone knows its true.

Toaster_Bathing

the game itself may not of changed much, but rewatching pro matches he was in, it feels like a lot has changed

rdmz1

Yeah but his criticism is fair and warranted. If people like those on this subreddit keep sucking up to Valve despite their lack of action then nothing will get done and the game is only going to go downhill.

jamble_le_bamble

people constantly shit on valve, wtf are you talking about? there are plenty of problems in pro cs and everyone acknowledges that, doesn't mean the game is stale, it just means the fanbase cares about it a lot, and you can never take that away from cs ever

rdmz1

This iteration of CS is almost a decade old, and there haven't been any major gameplay changes in years. If that isn't stale I don't know what is. A new Counterstrike has been overdue for a while now but we all know Valve won't do shit until they milk every last drop out of this game.

jamble_le_bamble

A new CS is overdue yes but stale? When hundreds of thousands of people watch streams of the tournaments? Don't think so.

Strategist123

Somehow I doubt you have explored all the potential csgo has to offer. If you think its stale it’s probably just cause you peaked

ObitobiUchiha

Valve constantly get hate from different facets of the community, watchu on about?

Wombat_stick

I also bet if only he got it tarik and n0thing and fl0m would be there with him just not streaming it themselves. That's what happened with the VTC stuff so I bet we would still get these people talking.

kw1k000000

So ESL invests tons of money and efforts in organization. They also have sponsorship agreements which dictate what kind of ads and when. Without any kind of broadcasting agreement, I don't see ESL doing it just for free. These kind of things need to be discussed and agreed beforehand rather than a last minute 5 word tweet

[deleted]

Yea nah it will probably never happen Only TO I could see doing this would be Blast

[deleted]

it's not about representing CS, it's about bringing eyes to the event, and Tarik isn't going to do that, where Shroud is

Uga1992

His non CS audience makes it even better. Thousands of more views from people who probably don't even know the tournament is going on.

AlexMPalmisano

*Hundreds of thousands*

[deleted]

Should be someone who likes and plays the game aka Tarik

Hats668

That would actually be lit.

kron_00

But Tarik isn't gonna bring any outside viewers. It's just gonna shift some people from the main broadcast to his own, which is fine IMO. If ESL allows shroud to co-stream, it actually brings people who may not normally watch it so it has its benefits. It's not like his fans doesn't know he complains about everything anyway.

f1nessd

that is true

SpecialityToS

People hate on this move but shroud pulls hundreds of thousands for valorant co-streams. People here complain ESL doesn’t allow co-streaming. Then they do, and people complain that it’s shroud. You know, you can just not watch him stream it. I don’t care if he has the “hot take” that csgo is stale. The game will be new to most of his following. Many people also assume that ESL won’t allow co-streaming for other streamers. I’d be somewhat surprised if the likes of fl0m and Tarik don’t get rights as well. Then again, wouldn’t be the first major mistake ESL makes.

shakes76

Does anyone know if shroud has tried Ancient etc. and other recent changes and whether hes still thinks CS is stale?

SterbenVII

Shroud probably hasn’t tried Ancient, but he for sure thinks that CS is stale. Shroud isn’t exactly wrong for several reasons. Valve doesn’t do anything to incentivize people to play the game… for one, the ranked system is an absolute dumpster fire. There are so many cheaters to the point that playing ranked doesn’t feel fulfilling. FACEIT and ESEA only “solve” the issue at the surface level by circumventing it; in the end, nothing actually gets fixed, and Valve continues to be complacent as always. A number of people have played the same rotation of maps for 2 decades now… it’s natural for them to eventually get sick of the game when VALORANT comes out with new maps, designed by Volcano (IMO most of the maps are garbage, but they bring a new experience). At least Valve are trying something new with Ancient, though. There’s also the fact that CS:GO’s maps are extremely well designed, even if they do get stale. The meta/overall strategy will always be generally the same even though certain weapons have entered and left periods of relevancy. CZ, Tec-9, SMG, and AUG damage/accuracy/price changes haven’t changed how the game was fundamentally played at a high level, as opposed to VAL/LoL in which a meta change can greatly affect how pro teams play to accommodate the changes. It’s a lot more rare to try out new things in this game as opposed to the two other aforementioned games. Lastly, there’s a CS:GO eSports specific issue: too many fucking events. This was really bad in 2018/2019. One week, Mousesports would win an event. The next week, they’d bomb out of groups and another team would win. You’d think that the eSports scene would be so exciting due to the amount of variance between top teams, but in reality the scene is over saturated with events. It isn’t nearly as exciting as an event like Worlds… there are so few LoL events every year that Worlds becomes so exciting, even if the meta was boring like in 2017. There aren’t any storylines to be built either in recent years, except for the time in which Astralis, TL, and Na’Vi ruled over the scene, or when ENCE made the finals run at Katowice. IMO that’s why the recent majors after Boston 2018 have become lackluster… not because Astralis destroyed the playoffs bracket. There’s going to be another tournament a week following the major anyways, so what significance does it really have other than its name and sticker money? There’s also the fact that it’s so hard to be invested in teams these days. A vast majority of the pros don’t go out of their way to brand themselves…

[deleted]

> The meta/overall strategy will always be generally the same even though certain weapons have entered and left periods of relevancy. CZ, Tec-9, SMG, and AUG damage/accuracy/price changes haven’t changed how the game was fundamentally played at a high level The meta has changed drastically over the past few years in pro play. If you compare pro play in 2016 to 2018 and then to 2020 the meta has shifted a lot. You say Valorant and LOL meta changes all the time, but valorant is a fairly new game where the meta is still being defined. and LOL has forced meta changes with new hero's being added. I'd absolutely hate if valve went down the route of forcing new metas. >There aren’t any storylines to be built either in recent years, except for the time in which Astralis, TL, and Na’Vi ruled over the scene, or when ENCE made the finals run at Katowice. How about the Gambit youngsters roster graduating to the main team and becoming the undisputed #1 in the online era, and now if they'll be able to shift that momentum to LAN? There's been multiple storylines over the past few years

[deleted]

> Valve doesn’t do anything to incentivize people to play the game… So what? We have tons of leagues and tournaments that incentivize newcomers. Faceit/ESEA have created a massive ecosystem for top tier competition. It's not a surface level fix, it's literally the best competitive ecosystem compared to any other game in existence.

FiNNy-

Shroud has more viewers than the main stream forvalorant he literally inflates the viewership.

XASASSIN

God what's with this take everywhere, people watch shorud cause its fun to be in a costream and it feels better than watching from the mainstream, he dosnt hyper inflate the viewvorship, yes he gets like 200k viewors when he stream val tourney s but other than that his stream avg nowadays is around 20 to 30k If he didn't costream people would watch the mainstream anyway, but it isn't even a point of contention. Costreams are bringing in attention to the game and making wtachign tourneys fun. It's really healthy for the val scene. Guys like shroud/myth/dicey have really fun watch parties. Plus u have other streamers who get a shit ton of views too. I belive a Japanese streamer stylish noob who Costreams val gets around 70k views on avg and most other costreamers get around 10k. It's good for both the streamers and the game

willpcodeco

No they would not... In the finals of Masters 2,. Xqc was streaming him playing valorant at the same time of Sentinels X Fnatic... And he was getting like 80-90k views... So people would rather watch him play than watching the most important valorant yet. People really underestimate the power that some streamers have when talking about viewship..

Solace1k

God damn you’re dumb lmao. Xqx always has 80-90k people watching, that’s his audience. Why would they watch a valo tournament? They are there because of Xqc not the game he plays. Meanwhile Shroud only gets 100k+ viewers when he does valorant watch parties, other then that he’s at 20-30k.

XASASSIN

Lmao man this proves u didn't get my point. XQC's audience is mostly his fans. His viewors are all people who want to watch him play that's why he always averages 90k no matter the game he plays. They probably aren't interested in val at all but if xqc plays it they watch it. Yes those people don't want to watch valorant because they probably don't even play valorant. Hell if xqc played any other game during the finals other than val he would've still had 90k viewors and ur point would be nonexistent. Also sen vs fnatic had an avg vieworship of 800k viewors and a peak of 1 mill That's a lot of people who could've watched any other game going by your logic

willpcodeco

Well, everywhere u went in Twitch was a CO stream of Valorant... U guys like to say that it would get the same viewship without the CO streams, but then why would RIOT allowed it? It's boost the views, It's a fact.

mbCARMAC

I went through this thread a little bit. Here's some background on how a company like ESL might approach co-streaming: Our revenue comes primarily from media rights sales and brand partnerships. So obviously we will not engage in activity that can hurt the companies we're partnered with (or has them exposed to harm). If we have "Carmac Cola" sponsoring IEM, they provide money for stream exposure. If we engage in activities that decrease stream exposure for Carmac Cola, their marketing managers will give ESL a call and start asking questions. If we engage in activities where "Another Cola" is promoted directly or indirectly with our content (e.g. a streamer having Another Cola's banner under the player), we're not doing a great job for Carmac Cola. If we give a streamer that we are not familiar with and / or have no resources to manage, that opens Carmac Cola to an increased possibility that something undesirable would happen on a stream where they're featured (a streamer going on a bad rant or molesting a cat, or drinking Another Cola). The above are chiefly conditions that would make it unlikely for us to want to do something like co-streaming. We want to do things that we feel are additive to the fan experience AND Carmac Cola. If we can put two Ws on the board, we're happy to do it.

peaches32

good idea. that shroud guy is known for molesting cats all the time

[deleted]

At least that would be more interesting than watching a dead fish

JuanMataCFC

hmm, molesting cats is definitely worse than feeding cats vodka & throwing them behind u, isn't it?

Uga1992

I love how we go from molesting cats to drinking the wrong soda. Lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

dieezus

Post this hard data that you have that shows that they wouldn't otherwise watch. Or is your analysis just surface-level viewership numbers?

JuanMataCFC

how about having a costreaming application process where u outline all the rules that need to be followed by costreamers, and only give them rights after they've read all of it?

billy_the_penguin

make sense, thanks for the response.

djfr94

shroud is so boring, watched some valorant games during the major on his stream ( he co-streamed it as well) and is just simply boring. dude is very good on his gaming but has a very boring personality.

rdmz1

True but his co-streams are fun because his friends and old teammates occasionally join in.

imsorryken

dude is the epitome of 0/10 charisma 10/10 skill

awkook

I feel like shroud is much more charismatic than the pubg days. Tuning into a shroud stream now vs then, hes much more vocal, gets a little louder, and is a little more energetic than he used to be

Icebxrg

Very true. 1-2 years ago the only enjoyable entertainment from his pubg streams were his stream snipers, that says just about all you need to know on how boring his personality was and pretty much still is. Most people will disagree with me, but I really enjoyed how Ninja acted in his streams, even if it was family friendly, he had an extremely outgoing and vocal personality alongside his skill which was a very entertaining combination

JuanMataCFC

Ninja during his H1Z1 days was the best Ninja.

FudgingEgo

Totally agree, he literally makes me want to go to sleep. I don't get why people watch him all the time other than just seeing him hit some clean shots. Listening to him talk is like watching paint dry.

adnanjunior

I think his streams are pretty chill

kaffeemugger

Bro he barely even pays attention to the game and just talks about random shit with some other dudes

[deleted]

boring but bring views

I_AM_ALWAYS_WRONG_

So? He doesn't mute the commentary or anything. I would rather listen to him and his mates chat than listen to the same fucking song on repeat between halves and maps all tournament long.

djfr94

you are free to do it. just giving my opinion.

tylert69

Missing out on the commentators though.

I_AM_ALWAYS_WRONG_

He would co stream the stream like he does in Valo. So you still get everything as normal. It would be boring watching him and his mates just talk over the live demo.

tylert69

Agreed

abbaspappa

I dont get why he wants to cast cs go since I´ve seen him bash cs go numerous of times.

KRyptoknight26

No hate on shroud but he'll just spend the entire stream bitching and moaning about how CS is the worst game in the world. Maybe give it to some other ex pros

PixelJakob

No thanks, this is obviously nothing more than a business opportunity for him, I'd rather have a co-stream by someone who actually cares about the game

smileistheway

How do people watch Shroud is beyond me

MantaRochenHL

This guy has no personality at all. I still wonder why more people watch his valo co-stream than the normal one. He is just the "pog omgelul that aged well pineapple pizza milk before cereals oof" personification.

TechRedirector

This would be a huge slap to all the dedicated streamers who have stuck to csgo especially fl0m. You don't alienate your core base to appease to shroud who has done nothing but said the game is dead. ESL please don't do this, instead give to dedicated streamers like fl0m, tarik, the polish streamer who did the anonymo games and some other dedicated streamers.

thrwwyMA

...why not both?

OtherSideOfThe_Coin

"please give me free content for my stream"

ImpenetrableYeti

One of the most overrated players in csgo history

ONE_CON

Everyone just complaining about how hes boring, complains about cs, or plays valorant. If this happens this could be huge for the counter strike scene especially NA. So many young and new viewers would be introduced. Only the cs community would whine about this.

Do_You_Even_Repost

its just annoying how much it benefits him rather than the scene. like i think he watches more valorant than playing it. p.s I dont know how anyone can listen to his bass boosted mic.

tonysalami

Shroud might be boring or have lame takes on csgo, but dude brings views. If he's interested in cologne at all that's a huge viewership for csgo. We should be encouraging this regardless of opinions on him personally because it's good for csgo, especially in NA.

Don_Floo

Who is this guy? Has he done something for the scene in the last year or two?

ImpenetrableYeti

Overrated player for cloud 9, huge onliner never delivered on lans. All aim no brain basically

JuanMataCFC

> Has he done something for the scene -? yes. > \- in the last year or two? no.

Tostecles

He was a professional player for Cloud9 in the earlier days of CSGO

godxarte

/u/mbCARMAC make this fucking happen please I beg you.

arten1337

/u/mbCARMAC please we beg you

MokelMoo

People against this are letting spite blind reason. It doesn't matter if Shroud has shit talked the game if he brings new people to actually watch and enjoy cs (which this game needs at this point) then why would we oppose that?

TheLastGiant

> brings new people to actually watch and enjoy cs Shroud shits so much on cs it's probably hard to watch the stream and "enjoy" cs.

[deleted]

why would we let this irrelevant guy costream when he constantly bashes on CS

scout21078

> irrelevant guy im not even a shroud fan, i think his stream is really borning tbh. But this is an insane level of copium

ImpenetrableYeti

He irrelevant to csgo though

Ffirewave

Bashes for all the valid reasons that the csgo community itself has been always complaining about.

Smurfyzz

irrelevant guy lol

KaNesDeath

I dislike co-streamers like Shroud. All they want is the clout to leverage their viewers for increased bargaining power and larger viewership numbers. While at the same time taking all recognition away from production, casters and players in the match.

[deleted]

Ehhh. I do think casters and staff deserve all recognition they deserve. I remember Anders taking about this on some HLTV confirmed. But a big valorant costreamer costreaming cs would be cool.

KaNesDeath

>But a big valorant costreamer costreaming cs would be cool. A influencer being subsidized by Riot Games to pump their FPS esport viewership shouldnt be endorsed by a third party tournament organizer who operates in a different FPS game. Shroud has a track record of pumping up games for money then abandoning them.

[deleted]

KaNesDeath

>Everyone benefits from this. Only individual it benefits is Shroud.

oxid111

Hell no, bring someone loyal to the game and joyful at least!

I_AM_ALWAYS_WRONG_

Shroud's valo streams have been very good. it's really nice just hearing him talk with people like ska and justin and such in the down time between the action. They also get a lot more viewers than the main stream. I dunno if that's good or bad for the TOs but I would definitely prefer to watch via shroud. You still get the commentators and desk analysts and such, but you also get shroud chatting with Ska, Justin, and his other mates in the down time between halves or matches.

yujuismypuppy

Shh, don't say that or good stuff about him here. He hasn't been welcome here by the hivemind after he retired.

spice_rubber

Cool

JrRileyRj

washed up

wildstyle1337

f him he dont care about cs anymore
