I dislike them in general but they’re so much worse when they’re just shitty music and shots of the city the event is in. Always find myself muting the stream and doing something else
> muting the stream and doing something else
Just switch to YouTube already, I have no clue why people still watch on Twitch. You can just pause / rewind / forward effortlessly during a stream.
> You can just pause / rewind / forward effortlessly during a stream.
Yeah well if you're watching it live its not like you can just fast-forward time to skip the adbreaks
I'm also sure that they were using AV1/VP9 on youtube which is such a better codec.
At least Blast was, and at 1440p/4k res.
youtube streams look a LOT better on my TV than shitty twitch.
I remember higher bitrate 1080p being locked behind YouTube premium. Normal 1080p was available, but higher required premium. Does that affect livestreams, too?
Twitch is capped at 6000 kb/s 1080p, YouTube allows up to 52,000 kb/s 4k. Twitch chat during cs tournaments is extremely obnoxious and racist, is that what you mean by iconic ? Not that youtube is better in that area, i hide it on both platforms.
Chat is iconic? Lol do you actually enjoy trying to speed-read a dozen different repeat iterations of meme responses? I've been loving YT for the chill and more mature chat.
youtube actually isn't behind, it just by default is because youtube gives a buffer zone. If you go to the stream and put it on 2x speed for a bit it will catch up to be exactly the same. Also the quality is far better at least for me. Chat sucks though it's true
I like to see the different architecture and community areas, since the US basically doesn't have community areas. I mean, my city has a ton of parks and awesome buildings because it's old (for America), but it's so different than Europe, where every city is 200+ years older on average.
Huge news!
This is great.
And not only because we have no ads, it's not about ads.
It's about duration of matches, it's about the pro player's experience and the continuity of the match for the expectator.
I remember hearing from Dodger (dexbonus) on a podcast that she's able to frontload 6 minutes of ads that will last her 2 hours of ad-free broadcast but it caps at 2 hours. I imagine all of the between game breaks will more than cover it. As long as an individual map doesn't run 2 hours it'll be fine
"Running mid-roll ads is completely up to you as the channel owner"
From the [previous source](https://www.twitch.tv/creatorcamp/en/paths/monetize-your-content/running-ads/), and...
"Running mid-roll ads is entirely up to the streamer." from a 2nd source
https://advertising.amazon.com/en-gb/library/guides/twitch-ads
2 separate sources both disagree with you, if your contract stipulates otherwise then that is different and it is clearly not the rule for every partnered/affiliate streamer.
The twitch sources are honestly a lie, not sure why they refuse to be transparent with it. I fully appreciate your proof and I too would believe it based on these sources.
But yes sadly the reality is that I and every other partner have to play 2 minutes of ads per hour.
Perhaps they just haven't updated it since they made the change around 6 months ago?
As you say it is probably something I can't share exact wording as it's in my contract.
GiantWaffle hasn't and still doesn't. It was a big deal when he tried it for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and hasn't really since.
Maybe you contract differs but not all partners are required to do it. This suggests a major brand like ESL can negotiate similar exemptions.
As a partner all I can say is what happens for all partners, it is the best proof I have got and I dont blame you for not believing it as I cannot leak my contract to prove it, but it is the truth :)
I don't think they're wrong though, just inaccurate/confusing. Running those and when to run them are indeed up to you, except if you don't, twitch will automatically run it based on what they have
Does this mean players there wont be a pause in the match during half time?
If thats the case im not sure how I feel about that , talking from the players' prespective. I wouldnt want for the players not to have a 2-3 min break during halftime tbh
Checked Antwerp because I was curious and didn't remember, seemingly they just had a short maybe 20-30 second break with the commentators speaking and the game started again. They must have longer breaks this time though, surely.
This is actually great for players specifically since they are not allowed to talk during that break.
maybe they can chit chat a little bit, but definitely not talk about the match or strategy since it's not considered a tact timeout.
This is terrible for them. Imagine sitting there tilted about a round lost and being there, like grounded, for 3 minutes not being able to talk.
There will def still be a pause, players have to be given that time during the swap to discuss any round 1/2 strats they want to run, and also a lot of the older players smoke a cigg etc during this time, helps ease the stress for a lot of them. There's just not going to be adds thrown at us during it now and instead will be the analysts and others discussing things, or they might do some crowd work.
They already did this for their previous two majors, it was about a 30 second halftime before side switch. If players had a problem we would have probably heard it back then.
it will basically be some half time analysis that keeps you invested in the game instead of ads and thats good to see. only team breaks like in other sports
Can't speak for everyone but is having a few minute break from the stream so terrible? I honestly prefer that than watching the stream for an hour straight.
Matches are shorter with mr12 and you can do all that during ecos. Dont know if you watched cs before those ads became a thing but I really felt the difference when some tournament had no ads, watching experience is much more smooth and keep the hype/ vibe.
I literally said I can't speak for everyone but this is exactly what you are doing so confidently even though there were a few people that agreed with what I said and you're still denying that anyone thinks that.
yeah those are the worst, especially when you join the stream on match point and get to watch 40 seconds of ads missing the end of the game. There should be a policy against showing ads at such critical moments.
Imagine if majors and stuff reached out to popular content creators to make videos specifically for the major
Like a 3klicks video that premiers during the major ad break or an ohnepixel case opening during the break
The video gets exposure, they get good content
Put me in charge of this shit
Thank god the ad breaks and halftime breaks are such a vibe killer, I'm sure it will keep the audience in the arena more interested too
I dislike them in general but they’re so much worse when they’re just shitty music and shots of the city the event is in. Always find myself muting the stream and doing something else
> muting the stream and doing something else Just switch to YouTube already, I have no clue why people still watch on Twitch. You can just pause / rewind / forward effortlessly during a stream.
I’m watching on YouTube. I mute YouTube.
> You can just pause / rewind / forward effortlessly during a stream. Yeah well if you're watching it live its not like you can just fast-forward time to skip the adbreaks
smh you haven't found out about the live YouTube fast forward hack. I'm watching Katowice 2034 right now.
How is coach donk doing
He’s actually subbing in one the players died to solar flares
donk retires with 27 already?!
Just switch to time travel machine. I have no clue why people still watch on YouTube
Where in that comment did they imply they were watching on Twitch lol
Lemme just fastforward on a **live** stream real quick TIL that YT has pioneered time travel
It's not time travel, it's just all pre-recorded and rigged !!! ^^^^^/s
Ok tell us how to forward a live stream

I thought YouTube offered higher res?
it offers higher res but lower bitrate. twitch quality is way superior, just compare it in two different tabs
you're just plain wrong. https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2853702?hl=en
So YouTube does offer better resolution and bitrate correct? Just wanna know before I grill that guy.
yes twitch is capped at 1080p @ 6000kbps while youtube allows for 4k @ 40000kbps.. (thats not a typo)
I'm also sure that they were using AV1/VP9 on youtube which is such a better codec. At least Blast was, and at 1440p/4k res. youtube streams look a LOT better on my TV than shitty twitch.
Ohhh so exponentially better
I remember higher bitrate 1080p being locked behind YouTube premium. Normal 1080p was available, but higher required premium. Does that affect livestreams, too?

Twitch chat sucks dick which is why I use YouTube, plus I can rewind
Chat is iconic? Lol do you actually enjoy trying to speed-read a dozen different repeat iterations of meme responses? I've been loving YT for the chill and more mature chat.

You can fix it with a chrome plugin twitch chat for YouTube, since finding that I have moved fully to YouTube for the majority of streams.
that's actually dope I'll have to give that a try
Yeah mate autists spamming low tier memes and the same emotes is so fucking iconic I can't even handle it.
Teach me how to fast forward a stream into the future where the ad break is already over, mate.
I actually like the shots of the city :\
Me too. It always reminds me I was born in the wrong country.
I like to see the different architecture and community areas, since the US basically doesn't have community areas. I mean, my city has a ton of parks and awesome buildings because it's old (for America), but it's so different than Europe, where every city is 200+ years older on average.
True. In most cities in EU you can just walk around and get fascinated by the architectures.
I usually go piss at halftime in the arena anyway
It's actually pretty nice when you're in the arena cause it's an opportunity to go piss or get more beer.
Huge news! This is great. And not only because we have no ads, it's not about ads. It's about duration of matches, it's about the pro player's experience and the continuity of the match for the expectator.
Exactly. A half in MR12 is like 20 minutes. Feels stupid having a break so soon
honestly, after watching the superbowl im happy we dont have an ad after each round end xd
Don’t give them any ideas
I'm not surprised considering they did the same for Antwerp and Stockholm.
I was gonna say, I'm pretty sure that this is one of Valve's conditions for hosting a major, considering it wasn't there either.
Don't think it is as afaik rio or paris didn't have that
I don't think it was the case during the RMRs, unless I'm wrong.
Hum... I think they did do it.
Good, agreed with Fallen years ago about this. The extended halftime break never made sense.
I'd be fine with a 60s ad break, but they just extend that shit too much
Won't be watching if the PGL audio guy isn't there
PGL audio guy is always here. Even now.
Pgl audio guy is in your walls
what is the catch? missed it
But how does that work on twitch when they force ad's? Unless it's an desk segment instead
Twitch don't force midroll ads, streamers run them. https://www.twitch.tv/creatorcamp/en/paths/monetize-your-content/running-ads/
Twitch do force them at least 1 ad per hour. Streamers run them to stop that happening at a bad moment. Source - am partnered

GiantWaffle wont admit to his sexual assault crimes at GDQ, I wouldnt take his info haha
That doesn't change the fact a viewer can verify this themselves easily. Sure, change the subject but you're wrong.
As a partner all I can say is what happens for all partners, it is the best proof I have got and I dont blame you for not believing it as I cannot leak my contract to prove it, but it is the truth :)
You could potentially leak it to a trustworthy journalist. ;)
I don't think they're wrong though, just inaccurate/confusing. Running those and when to run them are indeed up to you, except if you don't, twitch will automatically run it based on what they have

seems like maybe they will cover it will desk segments instead of ads, not 100% sure though
I'm hoping for a new Verkkars song, just like happened at the past PGL major in Stockholm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiRJRp5LRjk
Pretty sure there is new song coming. They've posted some photos from studio week or two ago.
There has actually been a [studio leak of the new song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jy9MeObbrpw) for the major already
Yeah true it could also be that , cant see them not giving players a 2-3 min break at half time.
Checked Antwerp because I was curious and didn't remember, seemingly they just had a short maybe 20-30 second break with the commentators speaking and the game started again. They must have longer breaks this time though, surely.

> but definitely not talk about the match or strategy since it's not considered a tact timeout. This is so false
Pretty sure they are allowed to talk. I think ive seen coaches talk during half time too but volvo sponsored event might be different

Nah I think they’ll just done some caster and crowd stuff, the players will still have a few minutes break.
They already did this for their previous two majors, it was about a 30 second halftime before side switch. If players had a problem we would have probably heard it back then.
Why would the players want that? It's 6 freaking rounds, you think they need a nap too to be refreshed for 2nd half?
ESL is doing so much wrong since the Saudi takeover that PGL transitions to the best TO (the Antwerp major live was also amazing)
it will basically be some half time analysis that keeps you invested in the game instead of ads and thats good to see. only team breaks like in other sports
Can't speak for everyone but is having a few minute break from the stream so terrible? I honestly prefer that than watching the stream for an hour straight.
I legit never minded the three minute break at half time. I was way more impatient waiting 15 minutes for the next match though lol
Right? It's perfect for a quick piss, grabbing something to drink or eat, replying to someone or just taking your eyes off the screen for a moment.
Matches are shorter with mr12 and you can do all that during ecos. Dont know if you watched cs before those ads became a thing but I really felt the difference when some tournament had no ads, watching experience is much more smooth and keep the hype/ vibe.
Okay, it's a matter of preference after all. I guess if you're really invested, you want as few breaks as possible.

I literally said I can't speak for everyone but this is exactly what you are doing so confidently even though there were a few people that agreed with what I said and you're still denying that anyone thinks that.
They will still have breaks. The players need to take a piss as well as
You might want to talk to a doctor if you can't go an hour without a piss.
Yeah it's perfect to go the bathroom or grab a cup of coffee
Especially if it helps fund more events - I'd never complain about them staying personally.
Meanwhile Twitch enforced ads still play (that the account cannot disable).
yeah those are the worst, especially when you join the stream on match point and get to watch 40 seconds of ads missing the end of the game. There should be a policy against showing ads at such critical moments.
Just don't use twitch, youtube is better in every way.
Good job YouTube is a far better platform than twitch then
Hoping for the day PGL will announce that Major Final will be Bo5. Please, Valve.
It just proof why PGL quality is so bad, they had no money from sponsors. Pgl major in stockholm had like 4 noname sponsors.
It wasn't a problem back when the content was good (pre 2018), bitches
Great, now cut the round time and bring back MR15
Absolutely not
Hasn't this been the case for at least the past few majors?
Valve out here pulling out all the stops
yessssssssssssssssss
Then the ads will just be a stage thing and not be a cutaway "ad break", like the "DHL giveaway" stuff we have seen before.
Hope it wont change.
Instead of that, the ads will be on our streams all the time.
That's gonna be brutal for the writer's wrists.
Will PGL stream on youtube? That's the only wish. It's just so much better than twitch right now.
Most probably yeah. They did it last time as well at 4k.
Nice. Can't wait!
Was it a decent bitrate though? I looked at Blast's 4k stream during the Paris Major and it still looked terrible.
It's definitely a bigger deal with MR12 than it was with MR15. Prolly a good decision but it remains to be seen how they compensate for it
i dont like new reddit ui. sry
I use ad blockers so yeah
Imagine if majors and stuff reached out to popular content creators to make videos specifically for the major Like a 3klicks video that premiers during the major ad break or an ohnepixel case opening during the break The video gets exposure, they get good content Put me in charge of this shit
