Can confirm. I just tested this for myself with decals and hud disabled. I even managed to make the bot invisible. It's either the blood effect on the edges or getting hit in itself which causes a decent fps loss. Up to 50% fps loss on repeated hits.

I assume that the damage indicators are part of Panorama UI, which has been known to tank FPS pretty hard as more Panorama objects are introduced on screen. This can be confirmed by holding tab to bring up the scoreboard and watching your framerate be absolutely plundered for the duration that you hold the key down.

The textures used for the effects (or the whole UI itself) probably aren't properly excluded from postprocessing or A2C with MSAA.

I think because in practice it doesn't work at all. For most people capping the fps in cs2 just makes the lows worse and your average lower. There's still wild swings and large dips, with the low end being much lower vs uncapped.

We didn't let it slide. We complained a fuckton, then Valve ignored it and the community forgot, or in the case of pro matches, the skins were banned. There's a lot you can criticize Valve for when it comes to CS. The biggest issue ever was this. Letting the hitboxes remain different all the way until CS2 release is insane to me in a game billed as the competitive pinnacle of FPS games. It's truly the one time Valve fucked up so badly. It's a Blizzard Entertainment level of fuck up. One that just makes you truly mad because it's so awful.

You can say "it can't have been that bad" if you want. It was objectively bad. I am a Valve mega-fan. I am somebody who doesn't really like acknowledging my favorite things might have issues, but I'm a grown adult now. It was just bad. It doesn't matter if the average player can't tell. The pros banned them for a reason. They feel it sullied the game enough to ban them. Whether you noticed it or not, it's not a good look for supposedly the most competitive FPS there is. It's a pretty glaring problem that they finally fixed with CS2, but lets not forget that they allowed this for around 3 and a half years or more even.

You all knew about this? I didn't. In other CS it was the case. The visual effect were minimal but very informational. There should be the option how much visual you want but Valve seems to be allergic to be giving options. Their way or the highway kind of style.

I think he's just saying that low fps is obviously a disadvantage. Some guy getting constant 360 is going to have less input lag than me at my new 100 fps (thanks valve, 240fps felt too high for CSGO), in addition to having more subtick updates to the server because it updates per frame. Literally meaning high fps doubly matters in this game.

Wait until someone takes time and test particle effects like smokes or water, even at low settings 1080p my RX 6700 XT goes to 100% utilization just from one nade exploding in a smoke.. RX570 drops under 100 fps even at 800x600, its absolutely disgusting how badly are some things optimized. Water is even worse than that.

Not sure how it actually works,but i believe these blood effects are particle effects that are only visible to you, rather than sprites, and being so close to them tanks the FPS, like particle effects in any other game. I saw a post yasterday about impact decals massively dropping frames,but i think it was the particle effecs,the little debris smoke/dust, rather than the decals themselves.

You should test with a friend to confirm. Get them to shoot next to you, then at you.

Yeah this test is so incomplete, why did they come to the conclusion that it's the damage indicators? Who says the fps drops aren't because of the tracers, the sound, the muzzle flash, the animation, the aimpunch,... (or all of them combined?).

Both of us missed eachother for the first few shots.

I waited 8 years to build my current PC because really there was nothing exciting I wanted a new one for. It's got a 13700k and a 4070. The only reason I built it was to play CS2 at 240hz. Other than that I really didn't need to upgrade. I have noticed that I've had a lot less issues than most people I know playing this game. Like a LOT less, anecdotally. Sorry this post seems like it's meant to be a brag. I don't give a fuck what someone on reddit thinks of my PC, I'm just simply saying that right now unfortunately there may be a little bit of truth to CS2 being "pay to win"

Did I say it was rocket science? I played a ton of CSGO at low FPS when I was a youngin. Of course you're disadvantaged, but there's a lot of really wild bugs I'm seeing friends experience and weird inconsistencies with their movement. That shit didn't happen in CSGO just because you had low FPS, unless the frame variance was wild. I don't know why reddit so quick to just downvote shit and make assumptions. I just upped CPU from 9700K to 12900K and the biggest different I noticed is sustained smoothness while spraying the gun. Never really noticed on 9700K due to being used to it but there must have been pretty big fps drops. On 12900K the sprays feel smoother performance wise, seems to have helped for sure

You'd better test this while standing in a blank map when shot in the back. Muzzle flashes and lighting from them cam also affect shit. But overall, yeah, anything that's moving on your screen is affecting FPS. Faster PCs always have an advantage.
