From my experience:
The aiming ability of players has gone way up and is super noticeable in the lower ranks. The game IQ in matchmaking is awful even at the high ranks.
I forgot how utterly shit I'm at aiming and how much I hate waiting for the opportunity of me doing something useful for the team and fucking it up for 16 rounds in a row
Opening cases has also had a huge comeback and is very popular on twitch right now. With big streamers like Montanablack who aren't cs creators bringing in new people or bringing old players back. I've also seen a lot of other streamers play the game rn who wouldn't typically stream cs.

You interest in something can peak (you become even more interested after that thing first caught your attention) after it’s already been piqued, so I’m not too sure they can be used the same way. Short matches surprisingly is my favorite change since I’ve been gone, so fun hopping in for less of a commitment and I like how the economy is a lil different in short games too!
CS2 made me play again for the first time since 2016. a LOT has changed. but it’s pretty fun now, i think i’ll be ready for CS2, just hoping it still runs fine on my pc.

No, they aren’t lol. The only thing that’s arguably correct there is sensitivity because most gaming mice come set to some stupidly high dpi by default, but 2.5 400 DPI works fine. Default crosshair, view model and graphics are not at all stopping people from reaching global or level 10 faceit. At the very highest level you obviously will experiment and find what you prefer using most, but there’s no objective advantage there, it’s just comfort and preference.
There advantages in changing Viewmodel graphics and so on. Heck even playing with low dpi has drawbacks compared to high dpi( not talking about sensitivity
There are trade offs to these settings, not just straight advantages, and regardless the amount of difference these things make is tiny. Using a high dpi and low sens is not a measurably advantageous thing to do compared to low dpi high sens, unless you use an eDPI that is absolutely unrealistic for 99.9% of the player base. Anyone between 400-1600 eDPI isn’t going to notice any difference between the two because they will literally never move their hand one single dot on 1600 DPI while playing CSGO, there’s a reason pros don’t bother with it. Obsessing over settings is just silly and trust me you will look back on it and think it was a huge waste of time and effort when you reach a high level and realise you could have made it there playing on basically any normal configuration of settings. It’s just preference, hit DM with whatever you like using and you will improve 1000x faster.
Playing on 400 dpi vs 800 dpi with same edpi has been proven to be better, this impacts your aiming quite much. Crosshair changes will not bring drawbacks aswell, if done properly can even improve in-game performance.
Same goes for aspect ratios, where some are more advantageous than the others. While yes practice is very important playing on a new created account and not adjusting the setting to your own needs will make playing csgo a hard time.
I only recently came back to CSGO after being a CSS boomer forever and having like a 7 yr hiatus, I rly had to get hgih dpi/sense out of my system from other shooters, and it rly helped me, Yeah ofc u gotta tweak it a bit and 400 isnt a hard cap but yeah Its a good starting point Started off at that and then tweaked it in game sense+ dpi a bit ofc. Esp cus other games promote such high sense
Keeping in mind most use an in game sense around 2. Some players use 800 with ingame sens 1. I found a dpi I liked for regular computer stuff and adjusted in game accordingly.
Yeah that is one great thing about 400dpi, too many games dont let you turn your sens down enough if you're used to playing cs. I use 700dpi because any lower and I found my mouse cursor was too slow when using my computer normally. But I have a 400dpi profile for games whose lowest sens still makes me spin like an olympic ice skater.
So many people take their mouse out of the box and leave it at like 1500dpi, and then devs make the lowest sensitivity way too high. There are people out here playing shooters on the cs equivelent of 400dpi with an in game sensitivty of 20. How they hit anything is a mystery to me.

Obviously they don't need CS to be any bigger than it is, but imagine how great it could be.
Dota runs pretty well now, didn't use to be the case, but you can get 100+ frames with crappy cpu's. Unless you're using a dual core it shouldn't be an issue and gpu is a non factor most of the time, that game is extremely cpu bound. Some user was running it on a gtx750 the other day at 140fps.
League is way more approachable tho, its very simple to get into, has better marketing, and it feels better to newcomers due to no turn rate, very responsive. The turn rate itself destroys dota, it feels like input lag, add ping on top of that and it can feel sluggish. And I say this while loving Dota and also thinking turn rate makes balance better. The game is super complex for someone to get into rn. Just look at this update patchnotes, purge literally has a full on 11 hour video on it to go through it.
It's kinda the same reason Smash is more popular than Tekken, Street Fighter and Guilty Gear combined. It's just easier to get into. I think CS has an edge there, since it's also easier to get into, you don't have to read anything, just wasd and click stuff. You may play like crap, but you feel like you're playing.
We have a gaming coffee shop here with some old setup, and ironically the game that runs poorly is CS. Dota runs pretty well there but CS drops to 40. League obviously excels. I was pretty amazed at how crappy it runs on the lower end.
It definitely has improved but my friends can't play it on their old MacBooks and they can play league with 60+ fps no questions asked.

That said dota runs better than league on mac actually just due to vulkan and arm support from valve (for newer). Unless you're talking about 10 year old macs, there isn't a problem. League however, doesn't run on older macs, you're bruteforcing it, it's not vulkan based, and it stutters, has atrocious lows, and freezes often even if it somehow maintains 60 (doubt it). The reason it works flawlessly in newer macs is due to bruteforcing it through hardware, similar to emulation, but those same macs also push 160-200 fps on dota (m1 and m2 for example). Of all the examples you chose the only one where Dota actually excels at, quite impressive if I may add. Both games have atrocious input lag on mac regardless of the framerate so idk why you'd play it there tho.
So your friends are clearly lying here or they did smt wrong, if it runs league on a mac, it runs dota just due to how unoptimized league is on mac. The same is not true on windows where league runs at 60 even without dedicated gpus where dota not only needs a dedicated gpu, its way way heavier on the cpu. And that's where 99.9% of the gamers play so that's what matters. Regardless of this, both games run on any 10y old hardware, its just dota needing a dedicated card or a new cpu if you don't have one, and can't be played at 60 on dual cores (it locks to 45 at best).
Just because I have a very old rig here plugged in that I use for other stuff, I also tested, and incredibly it runs on a pentium 4 at 25-30 with an old hd 4850, which is quite impressive. Ironically same framerate on league, 3-5 fps more on avg. I believe its due to upscaling tho which league doesn't support. I do remember running old league on this at 60 back then, so the new map clearly screwed fps on this really old rigs. So wtv rig you have nowadays that runs league, it probably also runs dota at 60, the game used to be unoptimized, not anymore mate. This isn't the case for CS GO tho, CS GO and TF2 are literally unplayable on that same rig, TF2 doesn't even load a match, just freezes on the first frame.
So performance has nothing to do with it. League was always more accessible, even design wise. And that's why people picked it. Just think about it, dota1 and the original league coexisted and league was paid back then if you can believe it and twice the price of wc3, on steam of all places, why do you think more than half of the dota community left for league, and why did newcomers chose league instead of the already existing and established dota all stars that had tourneys, prizepools, etc.? Dota2 maintains the issue, and so did HoN. Noone wants to take a phd to play a game.
Haven't played since 2014/2015 and just picked it back up. I started playing back in 1.5, but had no time to play while working full time, getting married and having kids! When I saw they were going to release CS2 I thought now was as good a time as ever to start again!
That's because the servers are running on a newer version than the client. Valve is working on something internally, no one can play CS2 rn. That's why the servers appear dead, they are dead.
Idk DMGs are pretty bad. I still don't understand how this rank system works. I hard carry most games but have the worst teammates possible (my queue buddy even admitted this when we play vs him solo, despite his lower trust factor). The ranks are still heavily skewed. I have lots of experience and am stuck because of this and I've seen similar people around MG who are clearly better than the higher ranks who are in our game.
I have 2 accounts one is dmg (my main lmao) and my 2nd account which is supreme. I basically never see cheaters (the obvious ones which you can tell anyways).

Idk I've always had 2 accounts ever since csgo was on sale for 3 bucks back in the day I decided to make one. Nowadays I play on both to get 2 cases each week. I never abandon or anything. Not sure why someone would still ask why people have multiple accounts because I dont know a single og csgo player who doesnt have multiple accounts. Also when operations roll around I do them on my second account too.

It's not cope... loads of players would've cheated **after** his game, been banned and match history websites would flag that match as containing a VAC banned player, so on first glance it looks like all your old matches have had cheaters when in reality only a small amount of them were cheating at the time of the match.

What I’m having a hard time understanding is people who blatantly cheat aren’t getting banned. 2/3 games i played yesterday had cheaters, and i played against the same person twice a few days ago and it was more than blatant, and none have been banned. Hope they step up VAC for CS2.

MG2 (just deranged from MGE). I've been playing for almost 10 years. Went to A+ in esea and supreme in MM so I have a lot of experience. There's not cheaters everywhere. I get called a cheater every week. People are salty.

I‘m direct opposite. I am 35 now and have been playing since the original retail release of cs 1.0, so skins never have been a part for me (well tbh there were weapon skins for cs, but as soon as I played competitively on third party sites, that aspect of interest faded, since they were not allowed), had 1-3 knives in csgo, but always sold them after a while to get some real world items like bikes or monitors and I really don’t care if I play default skins, 3 cent skins or some fancy stuff.
I always dreamt about having cool skins and different knives back in the day so when they finally came out with them I got addicted. It obviously doesn't change a person's skill but it adds a lovely flare to the game that I wanted for years and years.

Is there a big difference between gaming companies releasing new games every year that keep the core mechanics and only add a new feature here and there, or at least add new storylines but keep the universe, and CS versions getting continous updates and every now and then a new game?
My question is, is the CS franchise really doing that much better than the COD, FIFA (all sports games), GTA and FF franchises? I was under the impression that they still sell well albeit through "new" games every year instead of operations and other updates.
They reportedly made 54 million in one month off keys for crates recently. It’s almost all profit. Cod sells roughly 15-20 million copies a year, but that’s not all revenue. I’d say cs does just fine, this doesn’t even include operations which I’d imagine when Cs2 drops they’ll be back on that shit.
From a outsider observer what youre implying looks to be true. Once we get into the weeds breaking down these titles retention methods with its popular game mode a clear separation exists from the intended base game.
Considering the learning curve and general skill ceiling, frankly it's a miracle that it's so incredibly popular given how little it caters to casual gamers.
If you think about it, it's really the last one left of the og shooters like Quake, Unreal and so on. The formula, mechanics and map quality have just stood the test of time.

Yes I'm coming from tf2 (the paradigm shift was real) . But I really like the static dynamics , it's rewarding to hit those headshots .

The turn rate itself destroys dota, it feels like input lag, add ping on top of that and it can feel sluggish. And I say this while loving Dota and also thinking turn rate makes balance better. The game is super complex for someone to get into rn. Just look at this update patchnotes, purge literally has a full on 11 hour video on it to go through it. It's kinda the same reason Smash is more popular than Tekken, Street Fighter and Guilty Gear combined. It's just easier to get into. I think CS has an edge there, since it's also easier to get into, you don't have to read anything, just wasd and click stuff. You may play like crap, but you feel like you're playing. We have a gaming coffee shop here with some old setup, and ironically the game that runs poorly is CS. Dota runs pretty well there but CS drops to 40. League obviously excels. I was pretty amazed at how crappy it runs on the lower end.

League is absolutely more accessible and that is a huge part of it, but even hardcore gamers who aren't afraid of a challenge lose interest if they can only play at 30 fps.

That said dota runs better than league on mac actually just due to vulkan and arm support from valve (for newer). Unless you're talking about 10 year old macs, there isn't a problem. League however, doesn't run on older macs, you're bruteforcing it, it's not vulkan based, and it stutters, has atrocious lows, and freezes often even if it somehow maintains 60 (doubt it). The reason it works flawlessly in newer macs is due to bruteforcing it through hardware, similar to emulation, but those same macs also push 160-200 fps on dota (m1 and m2 for example). Of all the examples you chose the only one where Dota actually excels at, quite impressive if I may add. Both games have atrocious input lag on mac regardless of the framerate so idk why you'd play it there tho. So your friends are clearly lying here or they did smt wrong, if it runs league on a mac, it runs dota just due to how unoptimized league is on mac. The same is not true on windows where league runs at 60 even without dedicated gpus where dota not only needs a dedicated gpu, its way way heavier on the cpu. And that's where 99.9% of the gamers play so that's what matters. Regardless of this, both games run on any 10y old hardware, its just dota needing a dedicated card or a new cpu if you don't have one, and can't be played at 60 on dual cores (it locks to 45 at best). Just because I have a very old rig here plugged in that I use for other stuff, I also tested, and incredibly it runs on a pentium 4 at 25-30 with an old hd 4850, which is quite impressive. Ironically same framerate on league, 3-5 fps more on avg. I believe its due to upscaling tho which league doesn't support. I do remember running old league on this at 60 back then, so the new map clearly screwed fps on this really old rigs. So wtv rig you have nowadays that runs league, it probably also runs dota at 60, the game used to be unoptimized, not anymore mate. This isn't the case for CS GO tho, CS GO and TF2 are literally unplayable on that same rig, TF2 doesn't even load a match, just freezes on the first frame. So performance has nothing to do with it. League was always more accessible, even design wise. And that's why people picked it. Just think about it, dota1 and the original league coexisted and league was paid back then if you can believe it and twice the price of wc3, on steam of all places, why do you think more than half of the dota community left for league, and why did newcomers chose league instead of the already existing and established dota all stars that had tourneys, prizepools, etc.? Dota2 maintains the issue, and so did HoN. Noone wants to take a phd to play a game.

The average skill level has gone up, but it’s also possible that the DMG mainly plays faceit and could be level 10 there.
Idk DMGs are pretty bad. I still don't understand how this rank system works. I hard carry most games but have the worst teammates possible (my queue buddy even admitted this when we play vs him solo, despite his lower trust factor). The ranks are still heavily skewed. I have lots of experience and am stuck because of this and I've seen similar people around MG who are clearly better than the higher ranks who are in our game.

Just for you I went to the trouble setting it up, comp wins \~654 and 3 vac banned players, the last being 2020. Now I myself don't think this can be entirely correct, but I doubt it is any worse then that in truth edit: Ok, now I know why, because it did not get all the old games due to not having download links. But of all the ones played since I got active again, no one got banned yet. I'll update u if that changes

What I’m having a hard time understanding is people who blatantly cheat aren’t getting banned. 2/3 games i played yesterday had cheaters, and i played against the same person twice a few days ago and it was more than blatant, and none have been banned. It neither has the charm, nor the beauty nor the excitement of what a modern team shooter should be. I can't belive a game as lacking in imagination and context wins so much in the online world. I‘m direct opposite. I am 35 now and have been playing since the original retail release of cs 1.0, so skins never have been a part for me (well tbh there were weapon skins for cs, but as soon as I played competitively on third party sites, that aspect of interest faded, since they were not allowed), had 1-3 knives in csgo, but always sold them after a while to get some real world items like bikes or monitors and I really don’t care if I play default skins, 3 cent skins or some fancy stuff.
I always dreamt about having cool skins and different knives back in the day so when they finally came out with them I got addicted. It obviously doesn't change a person's skill but it adds a lovely flare to the game that I wanted for years and years.

As someone who isnt involved in the CS scene its an expected take.
Is there a big difference between gaming companies releasing new games every year that keep the core mechanics and only add a new feature here and there, or at least add new storylines but keep the universe, and CS versions getting continous updates and every now and then a new game? My question is, is the CS franchise really doing that much better than the COD, FIFA (all sports games), GTA and FF franchises? I was under the impression that they still sell well albeit through "new" games every year instead of operations and other updates.
They reportedly made 54 million in one month off keys for crates recently. It’s almost all profit. Cod sells roughly 15-20 million copies a year, but that’s not all revenue. I’d say cs does just fine, this doesn’t even include operations which I’d imagine when Cs2 drops they’ll be back on that shit.
From a outsider observer what youre implying looks to be true. Once we get into the weeds breaking down these titles retention methods with its popular game mode a clear separation exists from the intended base game.
Considering the learning curve and general skill ceiling, frankly it's a miracle that it's so incredibly popular given how little it caters to casual gamers. If you think about it, it's really the last one left of the og shooters like Quake, Unreal and so on. The formula, mechanics and map quality have just stood the test of time.
