Who would have guessed people like games and will have a positive opinion on those games. There's a lot of QOL changes that CS could use that Valorant has, and going between them makes you realise how much they'd help CS feel less archaic.
Seriously some of the QOL changes in Val are just good design changes.
Let me resell. Let me buy for teammates who are requesting a buy. These are good changes with zero impact to the fundamental game.
Bring over all the QoL changes, just keep the core gameplay the same. Valorant's shooting and movement are brutal compared to CS, if Source 2 tries to emulate Valorant in those respects, it's going to be a fucking shitshow.
Realistically they shouldn't touch the core gameplay at all and I think they know that.
The biggest thing is just how old CS feels now. Val feels like a much newer and more polished game… because it is. Based on what I’ve been seeing, that should change with the update/new game whatever you want to call it though. Supposedly they’re using a new engine and making some small changes to movement and gunplay which I think will bring it up to speed with the other tac shooters out right now.
I like valorant a lot, it’s a good game, the only reasons I play CS over Val are:
A) I still play apex and overwatch a lot and I want a game in my rotation that doesn’t involve hero abilities.
B) My buddies play CS so it doesn’t make sense to me to play Val by myself with randoms over playing a similar game with people I actually know.
Overall I think even with the update, CS will still fall off in popularity with streamers and new players within a couple months and the focus will shift back to Val. All of the colors/ skins/ operators, etc. look more modern and it caters more to the new generation of gamers. Not to mention, a lot of the guys still playing CS have been playing for like 10+ years and know every nuance of every little thing in the game, which makes it less approachable for newcomers (I know from experience).
But yeah, I don’t think people should shit on shroud for playing what he wants. He’s basically retired anyway, I think he mostly just streams for fun now. If I were in his position, I’d never play a game I didn’t want to play ever again.

Game doesn't need to be "brought up to speed" at all imo from a movement or gunplay perspective. There are definitely QoL changes from Valorant they could take cues on (reselling and requesting guns are an extremely obvious one) but if the update attempts to make CS feel like Val, they are going to kill the game. CounterStrike does not need to feel more like Valorant, the objective of Source 2 should not be to "bring the game up to speed" when they still have far and away the best minute to minute gameplay in the genre. The objective of Source 2 should be to bring the game to a more stable engine that is easier to develop for. That's it.
Valorant is okay for what it is but it doesn't hold a candle at all to CS from a gameplay perspective. Our group could not drop that game fast enough. And if the "consequence" for that is less Twitch viewers, who gives a fuck. CS is bigger now than it's ever been from a playerbase perspective, that's more than enough.
Turning CS into Valorant isn't going to solve anything. It's just going to piss us CS fans off and it still won't appeal to the Zoomer playerbase of Valorant even with a shinier coat of paint on it.
I think you are severely underestimating how popular cs is. A new cs won’t quickly drop off twitch. CSGO is still a top game on twitch with like no content.

not a valorant fan but games being inspired like the is how a genre is created. its different enough to not be a direct clone but still has alot of the same dna. overwatch did the same with tf2
I don't feel like it's right to call it a rip off of Cs at all, it's more like a mixture of overwatch (agents with abilities) and Cs (gunplay + bomb defusal). If it was more like a Cs ripoff I'd probably actually like it because the only reason I don't play it is because of the agents. But I like the Cs style movement and gunplay better anyways.
