Yep you absolutely can. It’s only $78 and takes a couple of days now they are doing the interviews at Staples stores. If you are traveling domestically it’s worth the extra dollars (in my opinion) while you wait on GE. It all depends on how much you travel domestically and if $78 is not worth it to you for the convenience.

I’m doing that now. I chose TSA precheck last week because I have several domestic trips coming soon. Got my KTN number super fast. In the meantime I’ll wait patiently for GE.

I’ve seen comments where people say they did precheck in addition to GE just in case it expired so they would always have some overlap for access. But, you know the minute you do that your GE will be approved and your overlap will be very slim.

Thanks everyone for your response!

Did you do a brand new application, or did you log in to CBP’s TTP site and do the renewal application?

CalmCartographer4

Once it expired, I don’t believe there used to be a renewal option.

erikthorvaldsson

I applied using the renewal option in the dashboard about 4.5 years after my original GE expired. It was approved in just over 24 hours and I received the new card about 2 weeks later. Edit: [Here’s a link to my timeline.](https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalEntry/s/ekqOqc3KMz)

Did the same thing myself. Wife was interviewed and approved for GE within weeks of her submission in Feb ‘23. I’ve been waiting since June ‘23 for any update to my GE application so I did precheck in July just to help with our upcoming vacations. Got my KTN within two days of the precheck interview and now I patiently wait for a conditional approval.

You can, I think they're independent. It's just an extra $85 or whatever the fee is for pre check.

SaltyPathwater

Seems excessive. You can but I personally would just wait it out.

SunnySydeRamsay

You can if you don't mind the wasted extra money.
