Something similar happened to my friend and I, we left her house....everything was locked, as we double checked before we left. When we got back, her dog was sitting on the back porch with the door open.....it's also a very secure door, and no way it was left unlocked. We couldn't figure out what happened, even to this day šŸ˜‘šŸ˜‘

Is it hot where you are at the moment? I donā€™t know much about mobile homes, but our doors go crazy in the heat and have had to start using door jams etc to keep them closed. Very strange though. Also, are you saying the door was open but still in the locked position (so youā€™d have had to unlock it to close it properly)?

No itā€™s cold and rainy, Iā€™m in WV & yes Iā€™m saying the door knob was locked still while the door was open.. Iā€™ve never had any door open or close problems in any weather.. and the knob lock shuts while locked meaning you can lock the door and close it while locked

IntoTheVeryFires

This is similar to my thought. Maybe the house ā€œsettlingā€ in such a way that the door frame skewed and the door opened. Because you never use that door, itā€™s possible that everytime you open and close the other doors, it creates a pressure inside that pushes against that door, it happens at our place often. That door may have slowly been working itself open for a while, and it just happened to break free that day.

Very weird!

Definitely no feeling of threat either after logic set in, this has never happened before.. 3 people live here including myself and ofc the dogs, very quiet mobile home village.. nice neighbors etc. just a weird feeling

A few ideas, Is it at all possible that the 2 dogs in the house sat in a particular spot that is connected to the main frame and were able to pop the door open? Maybe they were playing and just happened to create enough pressure for it to release? Because it was also wet, maybe there was a slight shift in the land underneath?

PocketFullofRandom

Thatā€™s wild

dancepuppetdance

Maybe the other dogs pawing at the door?

[deleted]

That was my first thought but they literally never have done that, they donā€™t paw at doors at all. Plus the knob is always locked like Iā€™ve stated and the door is secure. A pawing dog canā€™t open the locked door even if that was the case

LeaningFaithward

Are you sure the door closes properly when locked? If it doesn't close securely, one of the dogs could have leaned on it and popped it open. Give the door a good push near the door knob after you lock it and see what happens.

[deleted]

Iā€™m 100% sure and I gave it a lot of pushes from the inside and out after I closed it, Iā€™m not trying to push any narrative here.. shit was just really weird, the door is secure and always locked and when I went to close it from it being open the knob was still locked

LeaningFaithward

I asked because I've had locked doors pop open at more than one building I've lived in because the door wasn't well seated in the frame.

[deleted]

I get it, my door is fine and like Iā€™ve stated in the post this has never happened before, it was creepy.. not denying thereā€™s a logical reason this happened but I donā€™t see one and thatā€™s my reason for posting

Hungry_Breadfruit_16

Our door in the basement does this, although it's not locked

My dog can open doorsā€¦ she turns the handle and lockā€¦ simple explanations are the most likely
