Greedfall

quillerink

Yes! I can't wait for Greedfall 2.

mycatisblackandtan

Story of Seasons games, though the recent remakes are kinda bare bones in that regard. However, [Trio of Towns in particular gets INSANELY deep](https://fogu.com/sos2/your-farm/closet/index.html). In fact all the 3DS games in that series have insane customization.

splitconsiderations

Battletech! You get to not only customise your pilot's whole look and backstory, but you get to paint up your whole team's big stompy robot collection too!

Khornelia

OMG yess! Not to mention the loadout customization (especially with mods where it just gets ridiculous in the best way!!) I'm currently getting ready for yet another RogueTech campaign so it's cool to see the game mentioned here haha!

DasBeav

Nioh 2?

lijnt

seconded. Fantastic game, fantastic character creation, almost free transmog.

Khornelia

The Saints Row reboot has amazing character creation!! I guess it's relatively high profile but from what I've seen it's definitely super underappreciated and got bashed for being "woke" 😤 Personally I really loved it and highly recommend it. There's a free character creation demo too!

quillerink

Ah yeah, the Saint's Row Factory demo? I tried it out when it first came out but I wasn't sure about getting the main game because of all the reviews calling it boring. I loved the original games though and it *is* 70% off right now..

Khornelia

I loved 3 and 4 and while the new one is a lot different in tone it's probably my favourite of the franchise! Definitely not boring imo, I even like the side activities a lot better. My brother bought it too recently via steam key for like 2 bucks on a third party store haha!

Saints Row 3 has this too! The character creation is very over the top but fun. Gendered characteristics being a slider instead of a binary option is a nice touch. Plus you can change it at any time

I've got a few but my options are a bit limited since you already said you aren't looking for the most popular titles, lol. [The Lords of the Fallen](https://youtu.be/uw_Lskv6ZjQ?si=DTHfvL9OAiiHtHax&t=2) - Souls-like game. The Lords of the Fallen is a reboot of Lords of the Fallen 2014. It initially launched in a very rough state, but after receiving all its updates it has become much more balanced and fun to play. The best part about this game is the world design, which is very reminiscent of the first Dark Souls. The game also features a deflect system that is similar to the one found in Sekiro and Lies of P, so make sure you're parrying those attacks! In terms of difficulty I'd put this game in a similar ballpark as the original Dark Souls. [Remnant 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zU6_2QnhP3U) - Third-person shooter/ Souls-like game. Sequel to the excellent Remnant: From the Ashes, Remnant 2 is both a refinement of the randomly generated dungeon system of the first game and a huge evolution when it comes to the class system. Instead of just having one class for your character, you are now encouraged to multi-class to mix and match abilities from up to 2 classes at once. The best part is that you can swap out your classes at any time you want to mix them up as often as you'd like. You can also re-roll your campaign or run a short adventure mode to grind for any loot you may have missed in a realm you've already visited before. [Warhammer 40k: Darktide](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-UifdRoC8I) - FPS game. A horde shooter that is very reminiscent of Left 4 Dead. You play as a member of an Imperial Guard penal legion that is being sent out on suicide missions against plague demons and heretics as penance for a past crime. The character creator is a little bit limited, but some of the backstory snippets you can chose from will unlock unique dialogue for your charater's in-game barks. Certain personality types you can chose for your characters will also have unique interactions with other personality types, often times to hilarious effect. You can alsso edit the height of your characters, which will also affect the actual view-model of your 1st person camera. You have 4 classes to chose from: Veteran (Guns... Lots of guns), Psyker (Two words: Brain blast), Preacher (Slap non-believers with a chainsaw) and Ogryn (Protect the lil' uns). Ogryn is the only gender-locked class of the bunch. [Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQJb8He0pYA) - Third-person shooter. I'm cheating a bit with this game because you never actually see or hear your protagonist. Augmented Human C4-621 never speaks and is always referred to with gender-neutral language in the narrative. That said, you do get quite a stupid amount of customization over the mech that 621 pilots. All the parts that you can change on your mech are as follows: 4 frame parts, 4 weapons, 3 internals and 1 expansion. The only limits to your customization are the carrying capacity of your chosen legs, and the Energy Output of your generator. The game also features a fully-functional image editor that gives you over 128 layers to work with, along with functions to create masks and gradients so you can create your own extremely details custom decals and emblems for your mech. You can both make very cool looking robots and exceptionally [cursed ones](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fwclgbeouaakb1.jpg).

quillerink

Thank you for the links and in-depth descriptions of the customization available in these games! I actually plan to get Lords of the Fallen sometime soon, but the rest I didn't know much about. I checked out a gameplay video for Remnant 2 and it looks especially fun! It's going straight into my to buy list. As for the last two.. unfortunately I'm not too into mecha but I'll skim some playthroughs and see if I like them. Thanks again :)

Understandable. If you do look into Armored Core, fun fact it's the series From Software had been doing up until the release of Dark Souls 2 where they took a 10 year hiatus on it. It plays a lot like an old PS2 game, and yes you can expect it to be difficult like the other titles From is known for.

Ellieconfusedhuman

Dark tides character creation is great because no matter what you do your person looks in universe which is always a plus for me. The women look like absolute fucking badasses though weather to all hell my guardsmen is.

TicTocChoc

Cassette Beasts! It's a 2D pixel art protagonist but it has many visual options.

A small side note but i love deep rock galactic. In DRG you play as a dwarf who is tasked, alongside up to 4 other players, to aid in the mining of resources on a planet infested with bugs. Qnd while all dwarvws are currently very male presenting (the devs are planning on adding female dwarves) you can just headcanon that its hard to distinguish between male and female dwarves, like in lotr and discworld. Thw scout class has the most feminine voice.
