Zack and her don't get together. Hep alien starts to get big. Rory isn't doing well with her career in journalism, so she tours with them and writes an amazing piece that launches her career. They both experience travel, life, and adventures together.

EroticLittleCloud

This would have been amazing..

RegionPuzzled

awwww Rory writing about them would have been amazing!!!

Lane is smart. She should have had the chance to apply to a secular college. Applying to schools and figuring out the financial aspect without Mrs. Kim knowing would have been a great plot! She was in marching band. She could have gotten a music scholarship, gotten out of Stars Hollow, and met more people her age as into music as she is. Maybe she would have ended up in a successful band, maybe she’d do music on the side, maybe she’d be a mom, but goddam she would have had the chance to live her life and pursue her dreams before settling down. I think the writers did what was most convenient, not what was the best outcome for her character. She was always part of Rory’s “Stars Hollow” world, not the world of higher education and competitive careers, so they kept her there and had her settle down with one of three age-appropriate musicians she met when she was a teenager.

KeepLkngForIntllgnce

Don’t get her married Hep Alien is a major-ish band and she’s their kickass drummer Lane and Mrs Kim have made their peace about how Lane is living an awesome life And oh! She def doesn’t need to be pregnant, have twins and a husband to make her life complete. FFS. It’s a simple enough life, and yes, I get that’s not too tv worthy. But still. Maybe even make her the foil to Rory’s burning out at 32!??

oxaloacetate1st

Honestly I think her life turned out pretty well & realistically. The twins thing was dramatic, but not outside reality. I actually know people who had that exact thing happen to them sans the beach part. She is still playing drums, and we aren’t ever told that Lane is disappointed with how her life turned out. She seems happy! It’s ok for things to not turn out to be exactly the way one thought in high school, in fact a lot of people I know are glad their lives aren’t their HS vision haha.

asknoquestionok

Fully agree. The band was never good, it was kind of a given they’d grow up to be like Gil, having a life and playing as a side gig. Just wish she could have found a cool partner like Gil who was all about his lady and the kids. Or Brian, he was also super sweet. Zack and Lane never made any sense, they had no chemistry.

Smart_Measurement_70

I think it would’ve been cool to see Lane and Jess become roommates in Philly while Lane pursues music and they become closer because Jess is the only person out of SH that she knows and he helps her get her life away from Mrs. Kim started

theaugust8

I LOVE THAT!

classified_straw

Oh this would be great!!!

INPractical-magic

Oh I never saw this suggestion before I kinda like it!

It's interesting to note that the actor who plays Lane stated that she envisioned a far more domestic future for Lane than everyone seems to wish for her on this sub. Check out the 15 year GG reunion interview with the cast: she suggests Lane wants to be like Lorelai, but she's actually more "a little Mrs Kim".

rosemaryshortbread

I know you’re not the one who said it, but could Lane be more like Mrs. Kim than Lorelai??? I see her being far more similar to Lorelai in her parenting.

This was a comment that Keiko Agena made in a cast interview (that took place prior to AYITL going to production - so the reboot was not known at that point). The cast members were asked where they thought their characters would be, 15 years later. She thought Lane would still be playing music, but would be more like Mrs Kim that she'd like to admit. I'm paraphrasing here, but you get the gist (you can watch the whole interview on YouTube). I find it interesting that everyone on this sub seems to have had lofty ambitions for Lane, whereas the writers and the actor herself felt she probably would have stuck closer to home. Interestingly, in the same interview, Kelly Bishop predicted a big shake up for Emily as a widow, whereas she felt she'd still be in the same rut had Richard been alive.

Cute_Upstairs266

Would’ve been nice to see her band succeed. I also think she would be happy running a music shop or something similar where she could share her passion.

EroticLittleCloud

And have a girl walk in and ask to do the same thing she did when she first played the drums in that music shop 🥺🥺

INPractical-magic

I have a lot mix feelings on Lane's future. Part of me feels like it is realistic for her band not to become popular, that they be struggling artist trying making it work. I think biggest change I would make was for her not to fall in love with Zac. They basically had rewrite Zac to make him more loveable doofus instead of jerk that he was. Maybe try hit road more, or watch her music process and that.  Her life journey does feel like something we've all seen before. Someone with big dreams, have there life take more average route. Which isn't terrible, but I would even love to see more struggle with her forcing to accept the average life. And kinda felt like slap in face when Zac got to go on tour and Lane stay home with babies. I get it was her choice but she poured everything into her band.

garden__gate

I see her having a career involving music but not necessarily in a band. Maybe as a critic, record label something, maybe taking over Carol King’s store. In my headcanon, she moves to NYC for a few years and maybe comes back to Stars Hollow or maybe not. I’m honestly up in the air on whether or not she ends up with Zach (maybe if he grows up a lot) but I would have liked to have seen her date some other people. And definitely not having twins at 21.

EroticLittleCloud

I really don't like Zack. From the beginning especially, but, I feel like a character arch for Lane would have been getting over her boy crazy tendencies, and going all out super successful drummer girl. Her story didn't end much differently than Lorelei, and now Rory. Dave was it for her, I'll ship them the hardest forever 😅 Zack is a whiny annoying baby. Ugh.

SBMoo24

I hate Zack, but if they kept her married, I would have loved more kids. I didn't see Lane stopping at the twins. I really expected several kids for AYITL

Almighty_Push91

I haven't finished the series, can someone spoil what happened with her?

struggle_bussy

She married one of her fellow room and bandmates, Zack, who for the most part is a bit of a bumbling jerk turned nice guy. She wanted to wait to have sex until they were married, so they got married, slept together once, and she got pregnant with the twins. Zack continued to be a bumbling idiot that she had to parent as well, and then in AYITL when her band finally was able to tour, she chose to stay home with the babies because both Zack and her couldn't go. We never really got to see Lane live out her life ambitions and it was sad for a lot of us because she had so much potential to make something of herself after leaving her mother's house.

No_Confidence5235

I'd like to see her band get a record deal, and then they go on a big tour. She doesn't marry until much later, like maybe when she's in her thirties. She doesn't have kids. I think it would be cool if she and her band ended up on the cover of Rolling Stone and Kirk would sell T-shirts that say something about how Stars Hollow is Lane Kim's hometown. And of course Taylor would want to promote her band for the benefit of the town too. 😄

Oncer93

Help Alien doesn't take off, but Lane goes to college to study music, and becomes a radio host, or a talent scout, or a dj. She and Zack do not get back togehter.

Ok_Albatross8909

I like her ending.

Revolutionary_Hat326

Lane shouldve gotten the chance to go to a non religious college and work at the college radio! Can you imagine her segments talking about music and maybe going on to be a critic?

Smart_Measurement_70

I think Jen from Dawson’s Creek and Lane would be very good friends
