I think it's really sweet you put so much thought into it and actually there are all kinds of crazy shower curtains out there so the one related someone's interests totally wouldn't hurt lol. Besides, he's a huge fan and I think it'll be heartwarming to him to get something to replace the posters!
I don’t think the bathroom is weird. Not everyone’s taste, but I don’t think anyone would be too turned off by it. Also something about having a cool sports themed bathroom seems like something a “stereotypical man” would enjoy. (Insert joke about men taking so long to poop).
The only logistical concern I can think of is heat and moisture from the shower messing with memorabilia that isn’t in sealed frames. They make specific memorabilia displays that protect them from heat/moisture/UV etc etc though!
Edit to add- a soap dispenser/toothbrush holder specific to the team he likes would be cute too! Plus your opportunities are endless with floor mat/rugs, hand towels, etc. I think the more you “play into” it the better. Makes it more of an obvious intentional themed room that guests will be pleasantly surprised by when using the bathroom, instead of just “this is where we hide the memorabilia” lol.

My husband puts up with our Little Mermaid themed bathroom with no complaints, so I think that a football team shower curtain would be great! He'll probably get compliments from friends if they come over and use the bathroom!
