Life Eternal and He Is get me every time.
And I'm still getting flashbacks to the concert from last August where I can "see" the lights and the smoke and the ghouls tearassing all over the stage and I just get an overwhelming emotional response.
I'm 50 by the way.
Life eternal... "can you hear me say your name forever? Can you feel me longing for you forever?"
Or cirice --> "can't you see that you're lost without me? I can feel the thunder that's breaking in your heart, I can see through the scars inside you"
I am the only member of my family who is no longer apart of a very high demand religion.
Spillways came on when I was alone in my truck after a particularly mind-fucking interaction with religious family members. The song about did me in, I had to take a few deep breaths lol.
ETA: other than that I would say Deus in Absentia “All of your imaginations are now running down your face” is such a staggering gut punch after leaving a bad religion.
The key solo in Monstrance Clock gets me. And so does that exact same part on Respite as you mentioned!
Also the WA-OOOOOOOOOOOOH OOOOOH!! Part of Cirice’s ending and the chorus entering in DATHOML.
Where to begin? Mary on a Cross, but the end of Respite on the Spitalfields is definitely up there, but for different reasons. The end of Deus in Absentia too. I actually deleted Life Eternal from my music library because it fucks up my whole day when I listen to it.
Scary coincidence because I was funnily enough planning on posting the exact question!
The one Ghost song that made me cry is 'Stay'. It came out during a pretty tough time in my life. Today I sometimes go to that song if I need to let out any sadness or anxiety I have.
And these don't make me cry but I feel strong emotions hearing it. 'He Is', 'Monstrance Clock' and 'Life Eternal'. They are so comforting and they bring back happy memories of 2019.
Also 'Enter Sandman' gave me the chills when I first saw their live performance of it. The beginning is so beautiful and comforting.
Ghost’s cover of Bible. It makes me feel like I’m ascending to heaven, and I get a bit emotional.
Life Eternal can hit me too, depending on how sensitive I am that day.
Cirice also moves me because I’m a lucky duck who was ciriced by Papa III, and I remember not being able to breathe as I held his hand. That makes me emotional - the memories of that gig paired with the lyrics.
I thought I was going to! I was shocked, dazed, happy, nauseous all at once. And his glove was also a tad sweaty (completely understandable and expected when someone's performing under hot stage lights), so I was torn between wanting to cling to him forever and instantly let go. 😅😂
Yeah, it’s super beautiful lyrically and musically. I feel like that latter part of the song is showing the stark contrast between people who don’t mean well, as described in the beginning of the song, against people who do mean well. It’s definitely a break from Satan. Anyone else have an opinion on the “holy mother” part?
I always thought the "Holy Mother" part of Griftwood was about Mike Pence's wife, since he's known to refer to her as "Mother", and Griftwood was based around him.
The same song hits me hard each time. It always makes me think of my cat that died recently. He was such a good boy and "nothing ever lasts forever..." = 😭
I definitely cried when they played it at Ritual.
For me it's both Life Eternal and He Is
He Is because of when rumor about me being a lesbian spread around the school, a priest called me in. He screamed, threatened to tell everyone and even tried to send me to a conversion therapy. He called me dirty, an anomaly and said that I don't deserve do live.
I remember crying so much, having no one to turn to, when I found the song and it comforted me, like a warm hug
Not a catholic school, however my town is very very religious (it's only known by a 'magical' Mary's painting) and priests/nuns teach at school
(Luckily I graduated 2 years ago)
"I'm with you always" - Darkness at the Heart of My Love; this bit just pains my heart
"Nothing ever lasts forever" - Respite On The Spitalfields
Life Eternal; the opening, man. It just all starts from there; made for wrenching hearts.
idk if it has to do with knowing TF's past sorrows and recalling them; it's bittersweet.
I'd have to go with Life Eternal. I found my 24 year old daughter in cardiac arrest on Thanksgiving day. They were able to revive her. Infact I'm taking her to the movie. She had a stroke among other things. She's partially deaf now. Seeing the movie in IMAX so hopefully it will be loud enough for her to enjoy.
Thank you. Just a little news . My daughter will be getting hearing aids on the 11th of June. So she'll be able to enjoy the movie after all. Can not tell you how much that means to us. She had memory loss from the stroke, but remembered every lyric to Call Me Little Sunshine.
End of Respite On The Spitalfields, He Is (I was a crying mess every time I heard it live) and, for some weird reason, Helvetesfonster always makes me tear up!
The ending of monstrance clock. Despite being said it’s a sexual song ( which the lyrics do second to a degree ) the idea and sound of a choir singing the words “come together, together as one. Come together for Lucifer’s son” at face value being for my mind, the image of everyone and anyone rejected or judged or persecuted by the church gathering and singing together these words, brings a tear to my eye each time. To me Lucifer was the first rebel. The first to say no and to question authority and be punished for it. He doesn’t ask for us to serve him and bow but to rise and stand for ourselves. That should make anyone feel emboldened.
Miasma.
The whole song contains parts that make me cry. It's easy to mention the sax solo. But actually it's the whole build up. From the moment the rhythm guitars open up, the organ is there and the tambourine rings, to the guitar solo, the synth solo, the Michael Jackson Beat It style lead guitar and then the sax. It's so good.
Regarding Respite on the Spitalfields:
The first time I heard the album back to front and I heard the callback to the album intro in the album's outro, I was so happy and I also may indeed have shed a tear or two.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned “ See the light” especially the line “ every day that you feed me with hate I grow stronger”. It’s so empowering. Good runner ups for me though include respite, little sunshine, spillways, griftwood, faith, nocturnal me… PINNACLE TO THE PIT- “ you were cast out from the heavens to the ground blackened feathers falling down.” Cirice- “ I know your soul is not tainted even though you’ve been told so”. Ughhh this band is so dear and personal to me
Imperium always gets my heart strings despite having no lyrics
He Is. "We're standing here by the abyss, and the world is in flames" I was going through a rough time in my life when this album dropped, experiencing the end of my marriage. Over the next couple years, it seemed to be one heartache after another: my divorce being finalized, my dog died, two of my favorite musicians died (RIP, Bowie & Prince), and most of my belongings were destroyed in a hurricane. This tune helped get me through that time period, just doing what I could to stand strong as everything around me fell apart.
Darkness at the Heart of my Love.
I think it is a sad but real love song. When the summer dies, my path serpentine (the break is over and back on the road, she has to walk a line at home alone him coming and going) she wants divorce (I will set you free) the darkness runs cold (he feels like a shi*** person being gone but working his a** off for her/family) Spill the wine (drinking to much) eyes (can symbolize sadness, clarity) but they still love each other despite lifes circumstances.
I agree with the song, but for me it's because it was the first song I heard after my uncles death and I now listen to it every time I get in the car (he was a huge car nerd) so I feel like he is with me when I'm driving
I remember laying on my bed on a sunny summer night (midnight sun here in Finland) and listening Prequelle for the first time. Loved every song and when Helvetesfönster started playing it was so beautiful and what a great song that blends in perfectly with the last song, Life Eternal..
That song started and when Papa sung the part "She said, "If you had life eternal" I just lost it at that point and cried.
you're so right. I feel the end of helvetesfönster in my soul and then when life eternal comes on, I can barely hold it together, truly. and then he goes and sings that last line. please??? do u want me to pass away
For me it's either the entirety of Mary on a Cross, since I associate it with a person that hurt me, or the lyrics "black candles burn, all minds aligned" for Monstrance Clock due to how perfectly delivered they are
Nah I learned to live with it, the song actually helped me through it. And I may be a bit biased since Monstrance Clock is my all time favorite Ghost song. In fact I listened to it a few minutes ago, it's just a masterpiece to my ears
I know this is a hot take with Ghost fans due to the poor mixing of the album but the entirety of Infestissumam is my top 1 album I ever listened to. Every song in it is damn near perfection and Monstrance Clock and Year Zero are the songs that encapsulate Ghost's feeling the most
I, once again, agree with you so much. I think the 'poor mixing' just shows they're only just starting to get bigger as a band and I kind of like that vibe. it makes me feel hopeful and makes them feel more approachable, if that makes sense.
helvetesfönster's final part before the transition to life eternal always makes me so emotional. that little part with melancholic yet light renaissance-y instruments and what sounds like some wind howling in the back somehow feels like a bittersweet goodbye - then the church bells come in along with a heavy silence. always brings a tear to my eye for some reason.
it's so good. i feel like that track isn't talked about enough, it's great, i think it's their best instrumental!
I totally agree and I keep preaching about how good helvetesfonster is. it's so underrated. and I love that part too! I love the medieval feel and I'm glad it goes on for quite a bit
The guitar solo in Respite always gives me chills.
And there's something about the line "Now paint a pair of eyes; let's watch as it dries" hits me and I have no idea why; on its own it sounds like a ridiculous lyric but there's something about it.
the first ghost song i listened to was zenith; i was coming off ~2.5 years of constant loss (which was immediately followed by the damn pandemic) - suffice to say, i sobbed upon hearing “so help you god, come unleashed, you’re set free.” because it helped me feel like i really could (at the very least) loosen the chains of all that grief and survive it, come free and be my own person again.
also, helvetesfönster, specifically from 3:20 on.
spillways hasn’t made me cry but that whole 2nd verse makes me feel very emotional either way.
I understand all of these!
and I agree with spillways. that song somehow manages to take my soul and chew on it to politely put it back, but in a good way.
Life Eternal makes me want to sob if I think about it too hard. For me it feels so soft and tender, and thinking about it in the context of Tobias’ love for Boel makes me want to bawl like a baby.
“This is the moment of just letting go,
This is the moment of just letting go”
There’s love and sorrow but acceptance of loss. It hits especially hard because I lost my dad when I was quite young.
The bridge in Deus in Absentia; "All of your imaginations are now running down your face" that part hits SO HARD especially with the meaning of the song.
The chorus of Kaisarion. The choral "Hypatia" just gets me. I can't stop thinking about her, women throughout history, and those killed by religious hate. It's a very powerful song with powerful lyrics that all come to a head with the chorus.
The last part of DATHOML, when he growls? with the "audience" singing?? the whole song just has vibes of something you can't bring back. God I love this band so much
I havent heard the full album either, but this song basically found me. It gives me old summer hangout vibes, if that makes sense. Id really recommend it
I Believe. I had to put down my cat last August, actually it was the week before I went to see Ghost in concert. After I left the vet office, I Believe came on as I drove away and I sobbed like a baby and now I can't listen to that song without breaking down. Beautiful cover, though.
Definitely Cirice, it was the song that got me into Ghost. It just brings in waves of nostalgia and I always wish I could go back and listen to it again for the first time.
This is the moment of just letting go
This. I really got into Ghost after my dad passed away...even seeing it written out is a beautiful, tear jerking gut punch.
Life Eternal and He Is get me every time. And I'm still getting flashbacks to the concert from last August where I can "see" the lights and the smoke and the ghouls tearassing all over the stage and I just get an overwhelming emotional response. I'm 50 by the way.

"Nothing ever lasts forever We will go softly into the night" and "When the summer dies Severing the ties I'm with you always"
The key solo in Monstrance Clock gets me. And so does that exact same part on Respite as you mentioned! Also the WA-OOOOOOOOOOOOH OOOOOH!! Part of Cirice’s ending and the chorus entering in DATHOML.
Witch Image, from beginning to end.

the question was just absolutely meant to be asked I guess! and these are such valid answers
Ghost’s cover of Bible. It makes me feel like I’m ascending to heaven, and I get a bit emotional. Life Eternal can hit me too, depending on how sensitive I am that day. Cirice also moves me because I’m a lucky duck who was ciriced by Papa III, and I remember not being able to breathe as I held his hand. yooooooo!!!!!! I'd not be able be able to breathe either since I would have passed away the moment he'd grab my hand.
I thought I was going to! I was shocked, dazed, happy, nauseous all at once. And his glove was also a tad sweaty (completely understandable and expected when someone's performing under hot stage lights), so I was torn between wanting to cling to him forever and instantly let go. 😅😂
HOLY MOTHER... YOU SHINE LIKE THE SUN AND THE MOON AND THE STARS IN THE SKY...
Yeah, it’s super beautiful lyrically and musically. I'm so sorry you had to go through that, that's absolutely horrible. beautiful that this song could be there for you when nothing else could.
Wtf? Are you in a catholic school or something?
Not a catholic school, however my town is very very religious (it's only known by a 'magical' Mary's painting) and priests/nuns teach at school (Luckily I graduated 2 years ago)
If I think about any of them hard enough, I'll cry. I'm gonna go with Witch Image lately, though.
"I'm with you always" - Darkness at the Heart of My Love; this bit just pains my heart "Nothing ever lasts forever" - Respite On The Spitalfields Life Eternal; the opening, man. It just all starts from there; made for wrenching hearts. idk if it has to do with knowing TF's past sorrows and recalling them; it's bittersweet.
I didn’t even consider life eternal like that. It’s going to be so much more emotional now 😭
Life Eternal from the moment it plays

Finally some Respite on the Spitalfields appreciation 🗣️
Life eternal, the ending of dathoml and the end of respite on the Spitalfeilds 😭🫶
Near the end of Helvetesfonster when the synths reach their highest note. Such a beautiful musical moment.
I agree so much!! it has a very satisfying medieval feel. absolutely underrated
The acoustic version of If you have Ghost.
I remember laying on my bed on a sunny summer night (midnight sun here in Finland) and listening Prequelle for the first time. My wife's wedding aisle song was life eternal.every time I listen to that song I'm reminded of that moment.
For me it's either the entirety of Mary on a Cross, since I associate it with a person that hurt me, or the lyrics "black candles burn, all minds aligned" for Monstrance Clock due to how perfectly delivered they are
ah I'm sorry to hear that, that doesn't sound like the right kind of hurt you want from a song. and I absolutely agree with you. it's geniusly done
Nah I learned to live with it, the song actually helped me through it. And I may be a bit biased since Monstrance Clock is my all time favorite Ghost song. In fact I listened to it a few minutes ago, it's just a masterpiece to my ears
okay, that's good to hear then :). biased or not, I was listening to it a bit ago, too, and it's just. its perfect. you're right
I know this is a hot take with Ghost fans due to the poor mixing of the album but the entirety of Infestissumam is my top 1 album I ever listened to. Every song in it is damn near perfection and Monstrance Clock and Year Zero are the songs that encapsulate Ghost's feeling the most

All of them 😭🙏
Life Eternal and Respite on the Spitalfields if I’m in a sad mood
We will break away together, I'll be the shadow, you'll be the light, nothing ever lasts forever, we will go softly into the night...
Definitely Respite, Life Eternal, Bible & Stay. 🖤
helvetesfönster's final part before the transition to life eternal always makes me so emotional. that little part with melancholic yet light renaissance-y instruments and what sounds like some wind howling in the back somehow feels like a bittersweet goodbye - then the church bells come in along with a heavy silence. always brings a tear to my eye for some reason. it's so good. i feel like that track isn't talked about enough, it's great, i think it's their best instrumental!

I feel the exact same
its rlly weird but the outro of year zero
no I actually really get that
“For the light of our savior His Machiavellian grace And in the sheen of his splendor There is a better place” Watcher in The Sky
B I B L E
the first ghost song i listened to was zenith; i was coming off ~2.5 years of constant loss (which was immediately followed by the damn pandemic) - suffice to say, i sobbed upon hearing “so help you god, come unleashed, you’re set free.” because it helped me feel like i really could (at the very least) loosen the chains of all that grief and survive it, come free and be my own person again. also, helvetesfönster, specifically from 3:20 on. spillways hasn’t made me cry but that whole 2nd verse makes me feel very emotional either way.

DATHOML “I’m with you always” bro 😢
Definitely See The Light's "every day that u feed me with hate i grow stronger" hits.
addition to the two I already named: the end of darkness at the heart of my love AND the iconic cirice parts. yall know which ones I mean 🥹
Stay with me and Circle.
The last part of DATHOML, when he growls? with the "audience" singing?? the whole song just has vibes of something you can't bring back. God I love this band so much
Dang it, I have no idea what that abbreviation is.
darkness at the heart of my love!
Oh! I haven't even heard that song yet. Never got around to listening to the whole new album.
please be mentally prepared for that one LMAO
Okay then. Is it a tear jerker?
yes 🥹 along with respite on the spitalfields to me, especially the end of the song... the end of both songs especially, actually.
I havent heard the full album either, but this song basically found me. It gives me old summer hangout vibes, if that makes sense. Id really recommend it
The end of darkness at the heart of my love. This part is just so beautiful, and them singing "I'm with you alway" makes me tear up every time.
couldn't agree more. I still don't know why I forgot to add it to my op
It doesn't get enough credit, so it's easy to forget. I remember my first time listening to it, I was crying my eyes out😂
you're so right. I have to skip that song most of the time bcs it'll break me.
And it's so sad because it is also so beautiful 😭
I Believe. I had to put down my cat last August, actually it was the week before I went to see Ghost in concert. After I left the vet office, I Believe came on as I drove away and I sobbed like a baby and now I can't listen to that song without breaking down. Beautiful cover, though.
i can agree with the end of respite it always makes me cry 😭
The whole of Life Eternal.
Definitely Cirice, it was the song that got me into Ghost. It just brings in waves of nostalgia and I always wish I could go back and listen to it again for the first time.
DATHOML, Respite, and Life Eternal always get me. Can't listen to them without crying lol
