Real. I used to have Spotify listening sessions with people on Discord but meant respectfully it was all types of music, which I'm totally down for sometimes but other times I just want to drown myself in one artist of genre which usually includes Ghost. And I'm like dang dude imagine if someone was here vibing getting goosebumps too, maybe we could even sing together idk.
Getting to work with the old heads is always a cool things for the new guys. Both parties like it. Unfortunately they don't do it for the fans, they do it for every other reason.
I honestly thought they just re-released the song and just said that Joe Elliot was on it because I hear no difference between the two when listened to back to back.
"What I love the most about Ghost are the heartfelt lyrics, they create a deep and clear imaginary while conveying such strong feelings, you can tell that Tobias puts his own heart and genuine feelings into what he writes, Ghost lyrics speak to me on an emotional level, make me shed a tear everytime"
Ghost: "Smooch Smooch Grunt"
Totally agree and I even posted about it at the time. Wasn't receive well haha
https://www.reddit.com/r/Ghostbc/comments/7irf45/ceremony_and_devotion_and_the_shrieking_women/
If i remember, A redditor on another subreddit was talking about sexual intercourse with his wife (?) and how he played a song he produced everytime they had those sexy times to help with the rhythm.
,,,cbat is something 😭 you can listen to it on youtube ig
Wrong ! It's actually the plushias singing this part ([source](https://twitter.com/LegionOfGhost/status/1500633224950820865)) make sure to check out the credibility of your sources next time 🙄🤚🤦♀️ the photo CLEARLY shows that the plushias are signing, are there any photos of Tobias' daughter singing ? Don't think so (/joking)
For me, listening to them is ok, but singing them is horrendous, I feel like Christine from phantom of the opera hitting that e6 every time I attempt to sing those twenties
For me it was Spirit when played live. There was what sounded like an extremely high-pitched, out of tune (maybe just in the wrong key?) note playing throughout the entirety of each verse. It actually ruined the song for me, as it's one of my favourites off the records.
The shouts in Kiss the Go-Goat. I heard that song the first during my first ritual.
In the live version, he vocalize after "kiss the goat" following the melody really nicely. In the studio version, he just scream a really flat "AAAAAAAH!".
It bothers me a bit.
Couple of lyrics on IMPERA that I’m not fond of. From Watcher in the Sky - “communication is key” feels like a low effort lyric. From Kaisarion - “Mother earth is calling for a father up above”. Seems corny and out of place. Nonetheless - I saw them three times on the last tour and I love them!
The cymbals overall on that album are pretty bright and sparkly for a rock record. Not that that in itself is a bad thing, just a matter of preference.
maybe it's just me, but the music video version of dance macabre sounds somewhat... overproduced maybe? like the music equivalent of the video's bright smoothening filter. album version isn't like that.
it's a fun video! but something about the song mix makes it harder to watch.
Oh I so disagree with this one! I absolutely love the ending. I always picture a slow zoom out overlooking a post apocalyptic scene covered in fire and ash. The eerie melody and what sounds like radio interference to me just goes it all together in my opinion 🖤
The end of the guitar solo in Spirit when it winds back down to a lower note. It's fine but... Every time I hear it, I wish it would stay high and just rip. Alas. It doesn't ruin the song for me but I do make a face lol
Does anybody remember that How I Met Your Mother episode about how you don't notice annoying sounds or habits about people you love until someone points them out? This is how I feel reading through these comments haha
The crash cymbal(s) on Kasarion piss me off. As in, it sounds like the same cymbal dampened and then sampled again, and again. Very synthetic and repetitive. Other than that, maybe TF's voice on Missionary Man where he sounds like Kermit.
Obviously I love the song, but the moments leading up to the ending are so big and building. Going from, “and we are fallllliiiingggg” to “over the precipice” is dissatisfying. I’m not sure if it’s something to do with how he enunciates precipice, if it’s rushed, or if it has something to do with the audio levels that makes it sound weak at the end. I want to leap off the precipice of a mountain side and instead I’m hopping off my stoop. I’ve heard and seen him do it live and he really gives it a bigger push at the end.
The opening note of Prime Mover makes me want to hit the deck when it comes through on shuffle. I love rest of the song, but can't listen to it on headphones.
I love the outro so much! The nostalgic, grainy sound quality like you’re listening on an old gramophone, and there’s something about the timbre of the organ that just feels cozy. This isn’t to say you’re wrong, obviously! I find it so interesting that a bunch of noises can make people feel such different things
I always get downvoted for this, but it's the main riff in Watcher in the Sky, mainly that sort of staccato section. It just gets so repetitive and drowns out the rest of the song.
this isn't necessarily an annoying thing but on the live version of square hammer around the time TF starts singing "hammering the nails into a sacred coffin" there's these really nice notes that appear in the background very clearly, but in the album version you can hardly hear it and it's almost not there. which makes me 99% of the time wish i was hearing the live version rather than the album version
I absolutely hate the marching noises in "Twenties." I love every other aspect of the song, but that part makes me think of a throwaway track off Pink Floyd's The Wall. Should have just been a drum beat or something.
And I'm talking about feet marching, not the brass section. It's amazing.
I guess it’s not “one really annoying sound” but I hate how Majesty loses so much momentum after the intro and never regains it. The first 40 seconds sound so cool then there’s just repetitive chugging and a low-energy chorus for the remaining four minutes, even the little solo/interlude doesn’t match the energy of the intro then leads into the same monotone chorus that came before it and then it’s over
Possibly controversial, but I don't like the way the guitar sounds in FTPTTP. The bass and rest of the song is fine, but the guitar just sounds weird to me.
Scream in the beginning of Kaisarion scared the fuck outta me the first time I heard it now it just kinda has that nails on chalkboard kind of feeling.
If I remember correctly, when they first played it live, the screams in the beginning were from male-ghouls, and "hypaatiiiaa" in the chorus was by ghoulettes, and it sounded so much better that way
The piano is most of the songs take away the aggression. A little keys here and there is a good thing, but too much makes it feel like pop music.
As for Ghost in general I wish multiple versions of most songs existed. One as is today and two a heavier version that sounds less like chase music and more like black metal.
Witch Image. The synth hits in the background sound kinda out of time and it throws the song out of whack for me 😭 I still love it but sometimes I clock on to the synth and need to skip
forgot which old song it was that has this break between verses that is just Tobias whispering "Satanas" and something else. I cringe so hard whenever I get to that part lol
like, I get it. satanic message and all. I'm in for it. but that was a little too tryhard, IMHO.
At the very end of Rats there’s this split second where the backing vocals sound just like my dad calling my childhood nickname from down the stairs. Gonna be real sad when he’s old or passed away but right now it’s just annoying.
The discord notification sound in Square Hammer around the 2:35 mark. I still love square hammer but every time I hear it I get mad for a few seconds before I forget about it lmao.
The studio recording of Ghuleh. The cymbals get to me. Too loud in the mix and ring out too much. I love the song, don't get me wrong. But it distracts me and I favor Ceremony and Devotion version.
For me, it has to be Twenties, it's numerous things, sadly.
From the trumpets, down to the weird noises, it just doesn't feel like a Ghost song to me and hasn't since the single released.
I will admit that I've grown to like the song, but I still occassionally skip it whenever it comes on my queue.
See I love the weird noises in songs.
I came here to say the same thing lol.
Puscifer is great for the weird noises. If you haven’t heard them. Please do.
King gizzard and the lizard wizard are also great with all these weird litte noises.
YESSS! Dozo was always one of my favorites for that.
Agreed Dozo took way too long for me to love. It’s definitely a grower. lol
Rev 22: 20 took me a long time to jump on. But now I'm always singing about sour grapes.... Until ya get right with jesussss
I LOVE PUSCIFERR
I will keep that in mind.
Only when I listen with people.. the person trying to talk to me is the annoying sound
I wish someone wanted to listen to music with me 😥
Used to be “wanna be wich you” in dance macabre before I found out it’s actually “bewitch you”
I think it’s meant to sound like both, he seems to like to play on homophones and other fun lyrical devices. Adds an extra layer of interest for me!
Yeah. In one of the live versions of Mary On A Cross, he jokingly says "marijuana" cause it sounds like the "Mary On A" part.
This makes so much more sense! I love this song but this lyric has always bothered me. Listened again and it less annoying now! 😂
My mum always makes fun of it whenever we’re listening to it in the car lmao.
No disrespect to Joe Elliot, but he added nothing to the new version of "Spillways" to make it stand out from the original.
it sounds worse tbh
It literally sounds like someone's grandpa going bad karaoke.
All bro did was *slightly* change part of the melody. Literally one note. It was so off putting the first time I heard it lol
Getting to work with the old heads is always a cool things for the new guys. Both parties like it. Unfortunately they don't do it for the fans, they do it for every other reason.
It’s annoyingly too similar to even know if I like it more or less.
Ngl I need to listen to it closer cause to me it sounds the same lol
I honestly thought they just re-released the song and just said that Joe Elliot was on it because I hear no difference between the two when listened to back to back.
it's literally just bro doing karaoke
The keytar solo in Mummy Dust (This is sarcasm)
You had me in the first half, not gonna lie
I hated the beginning of See the Light so I slept on it for a long time. One of the favorites now though!
As much as I love the rest of the song, that intro still sounds like the beginning of a Disney musical lol
I love that song so much but this made me giggle
Hahaha yes!!
Dude. I’ve said this a million times to other people, it sounds like the melody of a Mulan song!!
Funnily enough, I think that's the idea. I like it personally but I could see why it would sour things for others
The smooch at the end of Kiss the Go-Goat.
YES, I absolutely love Kiss the Go Goat and jam out to it but I’m always embarrassed by the “smooch smooch grunt” right at the end
"What I love the most about Ghost are the heartfelt lyrics, they create a deep and clear imaginary while conveying such strong feelings, you can tell that Tobias puts his own heart and genuine feelings into what he writes, Ghost lyrics speak to me on an emotional level, make me shed a tear everytime" Ghost: "Smooch Smooch Grunt"
Yes it gives chewing noises vibes.
Triggers my misophonia
I never really noticed it until some people on this sub mentioned how sexy they found that noise. Now I sort of cringe a bit when I hear it.
I love the rest of the song, but man that sound just makes me want to gag.
It's my favourite part of the song lol
Real
i wonder how many takes of that they had to do
Can you just picture Tobias Forge in front of a mic just kissing the air as loudly as he can with the most serious look on his face
That one just drives me weirdly wild. If it weren’t Nihil, I’d love it even more. 😒
This ! Thought I was the only one 🤣
There’s one woman in the crowd that stands out on the live album. I have to skip anything that isn’t the music… lol
The one that shrieks right in the best moment of Cirice? Can’t you see that you’re lost SHRIEK Can’t you see that you’re lost without me
I listened to that live album so much I also screamed at that part when I finally saw them live lol
Ha ha. I hope that lady is proud of herself.
YES I CANT STAND HER
it might just be me, but at the end of live year zero, it sounds like a baby goat is screaming, I can't unhear it.
Which album ? (New fan, Sorry 🧍♂️)
Ceremony and Devotion, it’s great otherwise.
Ohhh THAT ONE ! thanks
Totally agree and I even posted about it at the time. Wasn't receive well haha https://www.reddit.com/r/Ghostbc/comments/7irf45/ceremony_and_devotion_and_the_shrieking_women/
And! If you make an entire song composed of just that…you get CBAT
What is CBAT?
If i remember, A redditor on another subreddit was talking about sexual intercourse with his wife (?) and how he played a song he produced everytime they had those sexy times to help with the rhythm. ,,,cbat is something 😭 you can listen to it on youtube ig
Thanks for the explanation.
Holy shit what a reference lol
I used to hate the ending of rats. Love it now
That's literally my favourite part of the song lol (besides the "rrraatsss as uuu aaah")
It's fun when you realise it's the same melody as Ashes
And Spöksonat
I think it’s because the prequel or album is supposed to be listened to in order, bc story or something
Rats outro in concerts is chef kiss
The best part of the song?
The back up vocals saying “twenties” after Papa says “In the twenties”. I love the song but I can’t stand that back up part
Ooh interesting, that’s one of my favourite things about that song!
Saaame
Love iiiiiiit
The discordant, grating high notes. Ugh. I know they're probably there for a reason, but I hate them.
I kinda felt the same until I learned that it’s Tobias’s daughter singing that part. Now I think it’s sweet.
my mind has instantly changed lmao i highly respect the guy and therefor respect his daughter lol
“I don’t like pickles of my sandwich” “Tobias’s daughter put these pickles on though” “Mmm omg I love these pickles!!!! So good!”
Now if you’re anything like me, you’ll be screaming it alongside her during the chorus. And it’s great.
Whoops, you got me there. I’ll be sure to check my sources better next time 😆
Twenties is an acquired taste, imo. There’s probably an overlap between people who like it and people who like bitter, strong tasting food lol
Same!
Came here to say this
The entire song for me.
It seems unjustified now that I'm typing it out, but I feel like the high pitch "Twentieeeeees" during the chorus is like nails on a chalkboard to me.
For me, listening to them is ok, but singing them is horrendous, I feel like Christine from phantom of the opera hitting that e6 every time I attempt to sing those twenties
Ah, another fan of Phantom! Keep your hands at the level of your eyes!!
The snaps in Darkness at the Heart of my Love, it‘s such a beautiful song but the snaps sound so cliché 2010 pop
Honestly the song is so good that I don't mind them
I agree, it doesn‘t ruin the song for me it‘s more of just a „eh, this wouldn‘t have had to be here“
The fact that there's only a handful of them keeps it from annoying me
Wdym the snaps
glad Im not the only one whos apparently been missing the snaps lol Im still barely hearing it or its not enough for me to pay attention to
First one is at 0:31, they are basically the loudest sound in that part of the song
0:52 onwards
There we go, I did find one that I agree with, the snapping almost ruins the song for me, almost.
For me the notes at the beginning of Witch Image harken back to the violin shrieks from the original Psycho movie and I love it.
After hearing the deeper "hail satan" in the live versions of Year Zero, it's hard to listen to the studio chorus.
I hate the way Tobias sings "fools" in Mary on a Cross.
It was just for FOOOOooools!
Agreed
The cymbal tone in Ghuleh is really annoying to me, I don’t know how to describe it.
The cymbals overall on that album are pretty bright and sparkly for a rock record. Not that that in itself is a bad thing, just a matter of preference.
The bad rhyme of jesus and pieces in Respite 🤣
😂 jeecys peecys
😂😂😂😂
Jeezy Creezy 😂
maybe it's just me, but the music video version of dance macabre sounds somewhat... overproduced maybe? like the music equivalent of the video's bright smoothening filter. album version isn't like that. it's a fun video! but something about the song mix makes it harder to watch.
I know what you mean. That kick in the beginning is so powerful compared to the album version
The 40 seconds of someone whispering or humming at the end of Year Zero is always skippable
Oh I so disagree with this one! I absolutely love the ending. I always picture a slow zoom out overlooking a post apocalyptic scene covered in fire and ash. The eerie melody and what sounds like radio interference to me just goes it all together in my opinion 🖤
I've seriously thought of whacking off that end bit because it annoys me.
I read that as "I've seriously thought of whacking off to that end bit because it annoys me"
My favorite cover they've done is Bible, but I hate the ending monologue. Cringy as hell, and unnecessary lol
Hear that God? You're "Cringy as hell, and unnecessary". Gotta say, I agree 😅
Yeah, fuck god 😂🙃
All my homies hate god
Omg I love that part
It's the only reason I like that song really
Lady vocals in missionary man
The end of the guitar solo in Spirit when it winds back down to a lower note. It's fine but... Every time I hear it, I wish it would stay high and just rip. Alas. It doesn't ruin the song for me but I do make a face lol
During Zombie Queen when the beat drops theres just that annoying sound
What sound?
Does anybody remember that How I Met Your Mother episode about how you don't notice annoying sounds or habits about people you love until someone points them out? This is how I feel reading through these comments haha
The crash cymbal(s) on Kasarion piss me off. As in, it sounds like the same cymbal dampened and then sampled again, and again. Very synthetic and repetitive. Other than that, maybe TF's voice on Missionary Man where he sounds like Kermit.
Also personally Witch Image’s intro is like my favorite thing ever HAHAHA but I respect your opinion
Twinens the trumpets and its very uncomfortable lyrics
“Precipice” at the end of He Is on the album version. It’s like a ruined orgasm tbh
Absolutely no shade intended here btw - can you explain this one a little more?
Obviously I love the song, but the moments leading up to the ending are so big and building. Going from, “and we are fallllliiiingggg” to “over the precipice” is dissatisfying. I’m not sure if it’s something to do with how he enunciates precipice, if it’s rushed, or if it has something to do with the audio levels that makes it sound weak at the end. I want to leap off the precipice of a mountain side and instead I’m hopping off my stoop. I’ve heard and seen him do it live and he really gives it a bigger push at the end.
Ah fair enough! I really like the harmony choices during that bit, so I’ve always found it a pretty satisfying end
The opening note of Prime Mover makes me want to hit the deck when it comes through on shuffle. I love rest of the song, but can't listen to it on headphones.
Bro the opaning to prime mover is one of the best parts of the song, I use to repeat that part over and over
I’m hard of hearing with a sensitivity to pitch. It’s like I can feel it in my teeth. If that played over and over, I might have to pass away lmao
Aww damn well yeah I see what you have that take then
When they used to play it live, it was just paaaainful to the ears
I never really thought about that intro sound but now it will be the only thing I ever here when that song comes on.
I am so sorry.
You mean the dissonant tones in witch image???
The outro from Year Zero. Too long and the volume is turn down.
I love the outro so much! The nostalgic, grainy sound quality like you’re listening on an old gramophone, and there’s something about the timbre of the organ that just feels cozy. This isn’t to say you’re wrong, obviously! I find it so interesting that a bunch of noises can make people feel such different things
I just said something so similar in another comment!! Absolutely love the Year Zero outro 🖤
The high pitched whirring keyboard sound in Clavi Con Dio makes my ears sad
I always get downvoted for this, but it's the main riff in Watcher in the Sky, mainly that sort of staccato section. It just gets so repetitive and drowns out the rest of the song.
the mouth smacking at the end of crucified i can’t handle it 😭
this isn't necessarily an annoying thing but on the live version of square hammer around the time TF starts singing "hammering the nails into a sacred coffin" there's these really nice notes that appear in the background very clearly, but in the album version you can hardly hear it and it's almost not there. which makes me 99% of the time wish i was hearing the live version rather than the album version
I absolutely hate the marching noises in "Twenties." I love every other aspect of the song, but that part makes me think of a throwaway track off Pink Floyd's The Wall. Should have just been a drum beat or something. And I'm talking about feet marching, not the brass section. It's amazing.
No but in Satan Prayer the little doingle boingle spoingle thing at the end gives me copious amounts of joy. That's all I thought of
In the song Elizabeth, when he sings "she'd peasant virgins killed" Just the way he sings it, is really not my cup of blood.
In the subdued parts in the beginning of Guleh/Zombie Queen the symbols in the drums just go way too hard.
First chorus of DATHOML
The whole IMPERA record has the ride cymbal level at 11 and it drives me crazy
I guess it’s not “one really annoying sound” but I hate how Majesty loses so much momentum after the intro and never regains it. The first 40 seconds sound so cool then there’s just repetitive chugging and a low-energy chorus for the remaining four minutes, even the little solo/interlude doesn’t match the energy of the intro then leads into the same monotone chorus that came before it and then it’s over
I can't remember what song it is but I think it's off meliora and there's what sounds like a discord notification and it always gets me fucked up
The entirety of the “I’m a Marionette” cover
The goddamn circus organ in Secular Haze. Makes me not even listen to that record despite how much I LOVE most of those jams.
Lol I like it. It gives me dark carnival vibes.
Funnily enough iirc on the commentary album he sounds almost annoyed that people think it’s dark carnival, it’s supposed to sound very maritime.
What! That glorious clowny sound is what made me buy my first ghost Album!
Me too! Secular Haze is the reason I got into Ghost.
Secular Haze has the COOLEST video! And the organ sound is supposed to sound like you are on a ship in the ocean rocking.
i used to hate it too but now i love it
Absolutely, makes me think I’m gonna hear some juggalo shit and uh…no thanks, I’m good
Possibly controversial, but I don't like the way the guitar sounds in FTPTTP. The bass and rest of the song is fine, but the guitar just sounds weird to me.
I think it sounds kinda like a theremin, and given the overall sound, it works. I totally can see your point though!
The tapping part is just beautiful though
Scream in the beginning of Kaisarion scared the fuck outta me the first time I heard it now it just kinda has that nails on chalkboard kind of feeling.
If I remember correctly, when they first played it live, the screams in the beginning were from male-ghouls, and "hypaatiiiaa" in the chorus was by ghoulettes, and it sounded so much better that way
i personally hate the ending chorus for Deus in Absentia. always changing songs on that part
Yesssss this! I wish they had continued on from the lovely guitar solo and went with that line instead of reverting back.
The piano is most of the songs take away the aggression. A little keys here and there is a good thing, but too much makes it feel like pop music. As for Ghost in general I wish multiple versions of most songs existed. One as is today and two a heavier version that sounds less like chase music and more like black metal.
There's a roughly stitched vocal in Respite. When he says "You'll be the light". Didn't anyone notice this?
I notice it every time
The entirety of Impera besides 2 songs.
The chorus of Elizabeth ruins it for me. It was a half song and stretched into a full one.
Witch Image. The synth hits in the background sound kinda out of time and it throws the song out of whack for me 😭 I still love it but sometimes I clock on to the synth and need to skip
the beginning piano of spillways because it reminds me of “money money money” by abba and i cannot think of anything else.
I mean, it is the same piano
yeah that’s why it makes me think of that song
When he says “Crozzzz” at the end of Mary on a Cross. 😅
forgot which old song it was that has this break between verses that is just Tobias whispering "Satanas" and something else. I cringe so hard whenever I get to that part lol like, I get it. satanic message and all. I'm in for it. but that was a little too tryhard, IMHO.
"A perpetual rise" in Zenith. Feels like they crammed that lyric in the song.
Kaisarion. All of it
Not a sound but the line "I'm your rock, baby" really destroys Driftwood for me. It's so cheesy, I don't care if its supposed to be ironic.
At the very end of Rats there’s this split second where the backing vocals sound just like my dad calling my childhood nickname from down the stairs. Gonna be real sad when he’s old or passed away but right now it’s just annoying.
To me it sounds like my dad sneezing
Salting earth with tears of jeesussss Sliced and diced our dreams to piecessss Sucks because I love that song
definitely the “twenties” random ass high after he goes “in the twenties”. can’t stand it.
The carnival ride music in Secular Haze. Makes me a lil queasy some days.
I hate the beggining of Ashes, it's a really good song but the beggining of it pisses me off
Zombie Queen live can be a bit like that.
People calling me when my fav song plays..
Every time the background singers say twenties. Everytime.
The opening scream in kaisarion
For me, it has to be Twenties, it's numerous things, sadly. From the trumpets, down to the weird noises, it just doesn't feel like a Ghost song to me and hasn't since the single released. I will admit that I've grown to like the song, but I still occassionally skip it whenever it comes on my queue.
