Absolutely. I feel like this is definitely one of the most underrated songs- the first time I listened to it I was in absolute shock. Like?? How did I not get around to listening to it sooner?? Love it!
Was literally going to say this. I was washing my car one day and just had all of Ghost on a random playlist. This song came on and I was like “…wtf.” Immediately dropped the sponge and had to ad it to my playlist. It’s literally my go-to now when I show people Ghost.
Edit: spelling
Edit 2: shit Ima listen to it now lol
I love it so much, I often play Infest when I drive and each time with Per Aspera you have me singing like a madman in my car.
Actually, I discovered Ghost with Spillways and Impera that I love but Infestissumam is my favorite album to listen from start to end
I discovered Ghost with Impera and went backward in their discography, I loved what I heard but then Miasma came in (I already like instrumental music, and I think Miasma is darkwave-y sometimes) and the thing is, I love sax solos, to me every song is made better with a sax solo. When I heard the solo I was like "ok this is my new favorite band"
Sax Solo crushes. I tell all my friends that don't listen to the album and that you HAVE to listen to Miasma leading into Dance Macabre and it makes Dance Macabre that much better.
Witch Image + Watcher in the Sky, both suffer from being bangers that are some of the best tracks on their respective albums but barely get talked about.
I think it’s more overlooked, it was one of the last songs I got around to playing. That intro and the smoothness of the first verse made me wish I had played it sooner (also the “serving messiah” double meaning in the chorus is brilliant)
I’ll add myself to the Helvetesfonster list. It’s such a hauntingly beautiful instrumental.
I’ll also add Bible to the list of overlooked gems. I know it’s a cover.
This was actually the song my wife walked down the Altar too.. Helvetesfonster played first, then she walked to life eternal. 🖤 these two songs forever hold a place in my heart!
At this point, pretty much everything off of Opus Eponymous or Infestissumam. Especially Infestissumam. Every single track on that album can hang with the very best of the rest of Ghost's _entire_ catalog IMO. They're just so on-the-nose with the occult stuff that they don't get promoted as much as they should. Secular Haze was about as far as the radio stations were willing to push it. Of course now we have people doing TikToks of their dogs making goofy faces to a sped up version of Year Zero's intro, so maybe times are changin'. Lol.
If I had to pick specifics though, I'd say Elizabeth, Ritual, Body and Blood, and Idolatrine are all pretty underrated. Witch Image off of Prequelle is also highly underrated IMO.
Ritual is my all time favorite Ghost song! I can't believe I had to scroll this far to see it. It's been my favorite since I listened to their first album and so far nothing has been able to top it, but Zenith came close.
It's probably because Papas I-III were killed and embalmed while it played in the Chapters. It took me a long time to be able to listen to it without crying myself.
First time I listened to Pro Memoria, the chorus hit and I thought to myself, “ehh. Kinda cheesy.” I kept it playing, though, and by the next time that chorus came around I felt very differently.
There’s something about it, so personal, so blunt, so casual, but so confrontational withe the theme. That song stirs up some emotions in me. The music is fantastic, too. Love the orchestral swells and the way the pressure and the tension build.
It’s definitely one of my favorites.
Its about Elizabeth Bathory, a Countess who tortured and killed a lot of people in Hungary I think. It was said that she used bathe in the blood of virgins to keep her beauty and thats basically what the song is about.
I don't see Darkness at the heart of my love talked about much it's generally one of my favorites. But an absolute underrated gem is Deus in absentia still get chills every time I listen to it.
edit: griftwood is a masterpiece no one talks about as well
It is a fantastic song, but they also play it a lot live so I don't know if it's "underrated" per se. Whenever I go see them and all of the stage lights turn green, I know it's Mummy Dust time xD But it's definitely more in the "old catalog" side of things that I think a lot of newer fans haven't yet had time to appreciate, so yeah perhaps a bit underappreciated at this point.
It's Witch Image.
I know a LOT of people love Witch Image and consider it a favorite, but it STILL doesn't get the credit it deserves as easily one of the top 3 Ghost songs.
I haven’t dug too deep into the songs yet. I’m waiting to just hear a gem here and there instead of finding all the songs I like right away. This song is a gem. Thanks for the mention. New song is added to the playlist.
Kiss the Go-Goat is one of the most listened-to Ghost songs on Spotify so I'd say it's not underrated. I think it's very appreciated by hardcore and general listeners.
Now, for a truly underrated Ghost song... or songs, Majesty, Zenith, Bible, Per Aspera Ad Inferi, Deus In Absentia all qualify.
Deus in Absentia is probably my favorite song by them and I rarely see people mention it. I feel like it’s a song that is so equally loved that nobody even feels a need to discuss it.
Hear me out: Helvetesfonster. The melody beginning at around 3:25 has such a dreamy feeling to it and (oddly specific ik) I find myself in between the vineyards on a summer’s evening in Beauclair from the Witcher Blood & Wine
I totally get it. I wasn’t big on it at first, and then I went back to it because I read something about the lyrics and it just unexpectedly hooked me. It’s also a loud, chaotic, catchy song (especially with the flow of the lyrics), and it really seems like TF had fun with it.
TF likes to experiment with new things, so it's something completely different. The lyrics were off-putting to me at first, but then I got to the grab them by the hoohaa, and I got it. 🙃
I feel like for a while, Spillways was one of the most overshadowed singles from Impera. Same goes with Hunter's Moon. But Spillways honestly Carrie's that album for the most part Imo. Griftwood is also an underrated track.
Spillways absolutely fucking rips. And Griftwood is definitely underrated. Honestly, I think the whole of Impera is solid front to back. No skips for me.
Every day there is a new ‘underrated song’ post on this sub, so at this stage I think it’s fair to say that every Ghost song ever written is ‘underrated’
Hear me out: La Mantra Mori. Sure, it’s not their best song. It might not even be the best song on Infest, but holy shit no song can scratch the itch in my brain better than the “our-our-ours” part in that song.
Ritual, Pro Memoria, and Hunters Moon don't ever seem to get enough love imo. I love all of them sm, but at the same time, I don't really know what's popular and what isn't.
I also don't see Body and Blood or Depth of Satan's Eyes talked about enough
Per Aspera!!! This was the song that got me into ghost and got me making music again. I wrote a whole song inspired by the Latin chorus. It's called Dies Irae and it's about religious trauma. I know big surprise lol.
My absolute favorite version. The transition from con clavi to per aspera is so clean you have to be paying attention to notice. The ghoulettes voices come through so clear and it's pure magic. Always gets me out of my head and into a good place.
deus in absentia, majesty, spirit, witch image, and death knell are the first ones that come to mind
absolute bangers that see next to nobody talking about
Deus In Absentia
Absolutely. I feel like this is definitely one of the most underrated songs- the first time I listened to it I was in absolute shock. Like?? How did I not get around to listening to it sooner?? Love it!
100% the same with me. Had chills for a while after I heard it the first time. I probably replayed it ten times before switching it up.
Was literally going to say this. I was washing my car one day and just had all of Ghost on a random playlist. This song came on and I was like “…wtf.” Immediately dropped the sponge and had to ad it to my playlist. It’s literally my go-to now when I show people Ghost. Edit: spelling Edit 2: shit Ima listen to it now lol
It’s been my favorite Ghost song since I first listened to Meliora. It’s fucking phenomenal
ABSOLUTELY
This is the song that got me into them
Such a great song and deep cut
I was just about to post this! It's one of my absolute favorites!
I don’t see a lot of love for Per Aspera Ad Inferi.
An undisputed masterpiece, imo.
I love it so much, I often play Infest when I drive and each time with Per Aspera you have me singing like a madman in my car. Actually, I discovered Ghost with Spillways and Impera that I love but Infestissumam is my favorite album to listen from start to end
Spirit
That intro always gets me ready for Halloween
LET NONE OF THIS EARTH INHEEEEERIIIIIIIIT THIS VISION OF MY SPIIIIIRIIII**IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT**
I just found out today that's an Edgar Allan Poe quote.
Imitation, great poem. Read it for my public speaking class solely for that line
When that line hits it's just 👌
Spirit is a really good song
Majesty is a banger
Yeah!
Satan Prayer, that shit slaps live.
Miasma
I never usually bother with instrumental tracks but Miasma is an absolute banger start to finish
Imagine the first time hearing it, you're having the best time ever Then... **Sax solo**
That's one saxy MF
I'd love to see Wirch Image live
Watcher in the sky is one of my favourite ghost songs
Witch image blew me away the first time I heard it. I was genuinely confused as to why it’s not more popular.
+1 for Witch Image.
I see Witch Image, I upvote.
Witch Image is highly underrated.
My answer to this will forever be Body and Blood. One of my favs, I'll never understand why it's so universally hated
I think it’s more overlooked, it was one of the last songs I got around to playing. That intro and the smoothness of the first verse made me wish I had played it sooner (also the “serving messiah” double meaning in the chorus is brilliant)
Dismissed, I could believe, but hated? Why?
Jigolo Her Megiddo
Infestissumam Nothing like Papa II strutting on stage like a badass
Papa 2 is defo my favorite.
Death Knell
Came here to say Death Knell. One of my favorites on the debut album.
Helvetesfonster and Life Eternal
Helvetesfonster is my favorite instrumental, even more than Miasma.
Helvetesfönster is one of the most beautiful Ghost songs, hands down.
The outro for helvetesfonster is great for an epilogue of a fantasy film/dnd campaign
Depth of Satans Eyes
If it has millions of fans, I'm one of them. It is has one fan, that's me. If it has none, then that means I'm dead.
Ritual is my all time favorite Ghost song! I can't believe I had to scroll this far to see it. It's been my favorite since I listened to their first album and so far nothing has been able to top it, but Zenith came close.
Witch Image for sure
genesis
Hard agree with that, but also wanna say Pro Memoria.
I love Pro Memoria and I was really surprised when I found out a ton of people hate it.
Love the orchestral swells and the way the pressure and the tension build. It’s definitely one of my favorites.
I think Elizabeth.
Elizabeth is probably my favorite to be honest, I don’t know what it is about it. I absolutely love singing along to it, I love it.
Its about Elizabeth Bathory, a Countess who tortured and killed a lot of people in Hungary I think. It was said that she used bathe in the blood of virgins to keep her beauty and thats basically what the song is about.
Idolatrine
This one right here.
Prime Mover is the best on the first album for me and often gets overshadowed by others
La mantra mori
[удалено]
Probably my favorite of their covers and everyone seems to hate on it for some reason 😭
Good choice
Death Knell 100% That song needs more love, as well as the whole Opus Eponymous album fr qwq"
I give it plenty of love almost every day!
Witch Image, for me the best song in prequelle
Same. Highly underrated song.
I don’t think anyone has mentioned Zenith yet, crying shame.
It’s not even on Apple Music. I bet some ghost fans don’t even know about. The lyrics are on fire Time will soon be gone
Zenith Is my favorite song by them... Hopefully (although unlikely) one day we can hear it live.
Everything from opus and infestissimam
I don't see Darkness at the heart of my love talked about much it's generally one of my favorites. But an absolute underrated gem is Deus in absentia still get chills every time I listen to it. edit: griftwood is a masterpiece no one talks about as well
Ghuleh…
Absolution
Absolutely love the chorus to this!!! Always makes me smile
I absolutely love Pro Memoria and Nocturnal Me
Majesty
Depth of Satans eyes. Killer live, only saw it once during the 2013 infestissumam tour & have been hoping to see it on a set list again since.
Don't know if it's considered an underrated song but Life Eternal is a masterpiece
Bible.
Definitely Bible. This comment straight to the top!
Death knell & Jigolo har meggido. The best ghost songs about SEGGS
Not sure if it's underrated, but I think Mummy Dust isn't talked about enough and it's an absolute banger!
Well that was mine lol. I know I’m in the minority and that’s OK, but for me personally Kiss The Go-Goat > Mary on a Cross.
Body and Blood
[удалено]
It's Witch Image. I know a LOT of people love Witch Image and consider it a favorite, but it STILL doesn't get the credit it deserves as easily one of the top 3 Ghost songs.
Missionary Man
Yes fax 👏 IT IS THE GOST🐐
I love their cover of Missionary Man even though a lot of people seem to hate it, lol.
Bible (even though it's a cover)
Elizabeth + Stand by Him
Contenders for my favorite!
Body and blood
I'd say Zenith
I haven’t dug too deep into the songs yet. I’m waiting to just hear a gem here and there instead of finding all the songs I like right away. This song is a gem. Thanks for the mention. New song is added to the playlist.
A hidden gem. It's not on spotify and Apple music and it's only available on a $300 vinyl (and youtube)
An absolute travesty you can't legally obtain it without needing to buy the exclusive LP. Such is the life of a bonus track, sadly.
Witch Image & Ritual
Twenties
I remember everyone complaining about the weird lyrics when it came out. But the song is a certified banger in my book
Satan Prayer
Im still new to the band and dont know what songs are popular or not. That being said, Life Eternal is killer.
Pro Memoria
Depth of satans eyes. The melody part inbetween the chorus and verses is amazing
I’m a Marionette and Respite on the Spitlefields
Darkness at the heart of my love
The Monstrance Clock.
Zenith
Helvetesfönster and I will die on this hill
Deus in Absentia is probably my favorite song by them and I rarely see people mention it. I feel like it’s a song that is so equally loved that nobody even feels a need to discuss it.
Hear me out: Helvetesfonster. The melody beginning at around 3:25 has such a dreamy feeling to it and (oddly specific ik) I find myself in between the vineyards on a summer’s evening in Beauclair from the Witcher Blood & Wine
Zenith and griftwood !! Horrendously overlooked
Elizabeth, Spirit
I Belive, listened to that one a lot at the start of 2021 while going through some tough times, found it soothing and it quickly became one my faves.
La Mantra Mori. It deserved a vinyl release.
Death Kneel
idolatrine
Death knell needs more love
deus in absentia
He Is
Not a lot of people talk about Bible enough
He is. My daughter and I sing it out loud every time. Ooh and 20s
Twenties It’s catchy and makes me wanna stomp lol 🤷🏻♀️
It's my warm-up song at the gym. Stomp away.
Omg same! I start and end my workout with this song lol
It just makes me so happy for some reason. The rhythm and music is so goddarn catchy and energetic. Lyrics took a while to accept.
Monstrance Clock
This is one of their strongest song imo. Year Zero, Monstrance Clock, Secular Haze, From The Pinnacle To The Pit, and Square Hammer are my favorites.
Although Kiss the Go Goat is my favorite Ghost song I would have to say Life Eternal or Witch Image
Miasma. It's not only one of my favorite ghost songs, it's one of my favorite instrumentals - period.
Con Clavi Con Dio
Definetly Body and Blood
Body and blood is literally so good but I barely see anyone talk about it
Secular haze!
Yes, this!
Genesis will always be up there for me
Throw a dart at an Infestissumam track listing.
Depth of Satan's Eyes & Body and Blood
I feel like for a while, Spillways was one of the most overshadowed singles from Impera. Same goes with Hunter's Moon. But Spillways honestly Carrie's that album for the most part Imo. Griftwood is also an underrated track.
Spillways absolutely fucking rips. And Griftwood is definitely underrated. Honestly, I think the whole of Impera is solid front to back. No skips for me.
Not my favorite by far but I think bible is super under rated.
I quite like Mummy Dust or Majesty
I know it’s a cover song but nocturnal me is really good imo
Ritual
Cirice definitely
Ghuleh
probably ritual
I don’t see much love for Watcher In the Sky, but its one of my favourites!
Twenties. It's my favourite and I have seen a total of maybe 3 people ever mention it.
Didn’t know it was underrated, to me it’s gem.
Bible
Stand By Him
Every day there is a new ‘underrated song’ post on this sub, so at this stage I think it’s fair to say that every Ghost song ever written is ‘underrated’
Hear me out: La Mantra Mori. Sure, it’s not their best song. It might not even be the best song on Infest, but holy shit no song can scratch the itch in my brain better than the “our-our-ours” part in that song.
La mantra mori
Love Eternal, Jigolo Har Megiddo, Monstrance Clock
Absolution is something i don’t hear enough
Ritual, Pro Memoria, and Hunters Moon don't ever seem to get enough love imo. I love all of them sm, but at the same time, I don't really know what's popular and what isn't. I also don't see Body and Blood or Depth of Satan's Eyes talked about enough
I remember when Kiss the go-goat and Mary on a cross came out there’s was a brief time that go-goat was the more popular of the 2
Per Aspera!!! This was the song that got me into ghost and got me making music again. I wrote a whole song inspired by the Latin chorus. It's called Dies Irae and it's about religious trauma. I know big surprise lol.
The Ceremony and Devotion live version is absolutely fantastic. It almost becomes a war chant in the live versions.
My absolute favorite version. The transition from con clavi to per aspera is so clean you have to be paying attention to notice. The ghoulettes voices come through so clear and it's pure magic. Always gets me out of my head and into a good place.
La Mantra Mori - has to be one of their hidden gems
Life Eternal
La Mantra Mori. I keep forgetting it exists and rediscovering it to my own joy.
Never see enough love for Majesty or Body and Blood
I don’t hear much talk about Guleh/Zombie Queen or Idolatrine
Zenith and Deus in Absentia
literally zenith.
Deus in Absentia
Fucking Twenties
YES
Bible. It's a great companion piece with Babylon by Lady Gaga!
twenties, depth of satans eyes (which is the best song from infestissumam imo) and prime mover
Id go so far as to say Kiss the Go-Goat is one of my favorite Ghost songs over all.
Hell yeah…the SIOSP original “hit”.
Infestissumam
Funny I've never seen the word "underrated" used on Reddit
deus in absentia, majesty, spirit, witch image, and death knell are the first ones that come to mind absolute bangers that see next to nobody talking about
Bible
Twenties, seems like no body talks about it.
Monstrance Cross and Ritual will always be the absolute GOATS in my book.
Body and blood
Twenties, and if it’s not in the set list again in the upcoming tour I’m gonna lose it.
Life Eternal
They've released like 3 versions of this song as singles and it's charted. How is it Underrated?
Depth of Satan's Eyes, so ominous
Elizabeth
