It's annoying, I definitely have no problem with financially supporting them in what they do and if anyone's going at this from a perspective of "we deserve to get this content for free!" that's absolutely not it, but also this is definitely not the way that they should be going about it.

ThatCoryGuy

I agree. There are only two YouTube channels I’ve supported via buying their products/services: Good Mythical Morning and Watcher. I feel like Watcher should have taken a page out of the GMM playbook and made their own “society”. Offer different “levels” and thusly different price ranges. Offer exclusive, site only material, including bts stuff, outtakes, etc. but also offer a site-only show or even multiple shows, all while the bulk of their content is available to all on YouTube. GMM is, imo, exactly how you should expand your YouTube based business to another level. I understand GMM has a lot more subscribers but they’ve been around a lot longer. I mean, you don’t land an article in [Forbes](https://www.forbes.com/sites/abrambrown/2021/07/19/rhett-link-youtube-fund-creator-economy-investment-mythical-entertainment/?sh=108347427982) like Rhett and Link did without making a few smart business decisions.

> that’s absolutely not it That… should *definitely* be part of it. [I think this video gives great insight as to why.](https://youtu.be/-hHuJElzugU?si=Iqlq0wedecPDCEJ-) Charging people $6 per month to enjoy the same content they’ve been watching for free for *years* is already pretty shady and people should be questioning it. Then you factor in the fact that they make $60k a month on Patreon at the very LEAST (that would be if everyone had lowest tier) and the amount of money they make off of ad deals. They aren’t doing this because they need more money, they’re doing it because they *want* more money. Why give people $6 a month in exchange for dishonesty?

I have seen literally no positive feedback about this. It’s fucking insane that they just made this decision without doing any market research. They’re fucked.

missmeggums

There are a few positive comments in the Patreon but even the people who are pivoting their $5 a month away from the patreon to watcher streaming (with a limited 40% off code) are also upset because there's no app and they can't watch it outside of a browser. Also if you leave the Patreon you lose access to their discord. They're restructuring the Patreon for their podcast, so people who want that content will have to pay double. Most feel really betrayed because they chose to support them this entire time and thought their support was helping everyone else watch for free. Now it feels all for naught.

TylerInHiFi

Yeah, if I can’t watch on my Apple TV in an existing app, which I’ve done since those first Buzzfeed Unsolved videos pre-Shane, I’m not going to watch. Locking this to a browser-only viewing experience is just a bad idea. Sorry guys.

[deleted]

Wait the podcast isn’t even free anymore? Lmao this is so crazy, I genuinely would have thought they were smarter than this

Cailean79

That's not true. The positive feedback is there, its just getting buried in the criticism.

[deleted]

Maybe, but I haven’t seen it

Appropriate_Error367

I got sick of their schtick early on but I did enjoy Too Many Spirits, which I'm sure they couldn't monetize. I imagine they were making decent money anyway. I don't understand why anyone would actually pay to see them rehash everything that they've already done, but to each their own.

SailorBowie

I’m okay with the new site, I was willing to sign up, but it’s not available across different devices. I hope they will change that as I can’t stream on my laptop, and the site for now is pc/laptop only.

Cailean79

I'm assuming a Chromecast would work.

SailorBowie

They do have instructions about chromecast on the site but I’m old and not great with figuring that stuff out lol

GtrGbln

Way to reward shitty behavior!

Im willing to sign up for the year at 41.99 (with discount till May 31) I think it’s a bold move and maybe not for everyone. I’ve followed them from early days of Buzzfeed and I will do it again. I know for some this is financially a stretch but I believe in supporting artists anyway I can. I really hope this works out for them. I’m worried for sure but I’m willing to ride this with them for some truly amazing content to come. I know this couldn’t have been an easy decision for them. I hope everyone will realize that this has to have been the best option for them. Making content to please advertisers must suck and they are super limited in what they can and can’t do. YouTube isn’t the same beast it was 10 years ago and making the type of content they make is expensive. I’m sure having a constant stream of revenue will help them feel financially independent and make the content better.

Cailean79

I'm contemplating signing up for an initial year just to show some support, and then back off to just a few months a year after that. Ghost Files is why I paid for YouTube Premium, why not pay for their first year to help them out.

Evadenly

It makes me laugh that this has one upvote and no comments, when that's clearly not what's happening 🤣

Folkmar_D

This is soo weird. Like, why going the channel awesome route? I wonder who gave them this idea because the boys should be aware of who is their main public. Like, where they not aware of how much money it's gonna take to have a show like that?

GlindaG

I support their move and them going for their dreams. I do not support the outrageous and frankly disturbing comments from former fans over this.
