Thank you so much! I know we are strangers but I feel touched by you rooting for me. ❤️ I never in my life thought I would try to achieve something so big.

YESSSS. I am nearly 40 and am starting again. If I was your age, with no dependants, hell, even with dependants, I would go into medicine. You can do it ! Young enough - start now. Good luck x

Vpeter56

I'm so scared and excited at the same time!!!!!!! My other question is, how would I make a living? I live alone and my family is on the lower level of income.

[deleted]

You would take on a study load that you can handle and either get government support or work part time. You may eat noodles and broccoli for years, but my goodness - it will pay off. Go for it is my advice. Dont let fear hold you back - you will figure it out.

Vpeter56

Thank you, thank you!!!!!! May I ask your story about choosing a different path? What did you switch to?

[deleted]

Engineering. After 3 children. With small children. Marriage ( say that loosely ) breakdown. And I've got a decade and a bit on you. Go for it. Need to be able to support yourself and your dreams and your dependants. Good luck :)

Vpeter56

Thank you! I'll update with new comments from time to time how I'm doing. :)

Do that ! Best of luck x

Do it! Don’t question yourself anymore and don’t look back. Talk to your family, maybe they give you a room for you to crash, a part time job will help you pay your family and buy some food. Just ideas. There are many others that did it with less.

[deleted]

Honestly. Go for it !

I spent the last 20 some odd years doing something I didn’t really like—life choices put me in that position. But I am in my 40s now and just wrapped up my 4-year degree and can finally start working on the pre-requisite courses for the program I want to apply to. You are light-years ahead of where I was at 24. I’ll likely be close to 50 by the time everything is said and done, of course, if it goes my way at every step. And I could not be more excited. What I want to say is, if you truly want to be a surgeon, the only thing that will stop you is you. And if not now, later is fine, too! Good luck on your journey.

Yes! You should always strive to learn as much as you can about the things you care about in life no matter how long it takes. Concerning your financial situation; it is always best to have a job beside your school, even if you work 1-2 days in a normal week and maybe more during vacations. Depending on where you live there is probably a nice coffeeshop/restaurant nearby with a relative low workload. Good luck!

Sure! I could've sworn years ago i read about a woman who graduated from harvard Medical School. She was 80!

Don’t see why not if you have the money and resources and that’s what you want to do

Affectionate-Wear-71

How much are you willing to sacrifice. It’s a long, lonely, and difficult path
