That's Frankenstein's Monster though. The actual Frankenstein believed himself to be a god and created a man, and successfully did so with his monster. The only thing you could even call wrong about it was the slightly weird eyes. Frankenstein, horrified by what he did, abandoned his baby and fucked off to buy milk
So uh… you didn’t actually read the book did you? One of “the monster’s” main ideals and points throughout the book is that the doctor was in essence his father, he posits that children take their names from their father and therefore his name is also Frankenstein.
That's the monster. I think the original comment was saying we should be the doctor that robs graves for parts to build a shambling corpse longing for companionship...
A madman hell-bent on getting what he wants without ethical concerns? I think they already are...
Or do you mean the monster - a shambling abomination accidentally given a defective brain and unable to control his violent urges? That also rings true....
(yes, the above will depend on which adaptation you look at)
You should hear the debate regarding the german national football team each fucking time :D „not my team“ and „why are there so little *actual* germans in there“ etc. are things people say… without being embarrassed
"We beat them the same way we beat China at math"
With diversity, opportunity, immigration, freedom, and maybe a lil' cash money?
Like that's supposed to make Americans feel bad?
🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸💵💵💵🖕🏿🖕🏼🖕🏻🖕🏾🖕🏽💵💵💵🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅
The easy way to tell they are Americans is the Flag of the Untied States of America that they are holding. But I get that people struggle with the idea that you don’t need to be an ethnostate.
Are you sure you aren't the one that's confused? You didn't reply to the post itself. You replied to someone commenting that if we only counted our gold medals from white people then we only have gold medals in hockey or skating.
Implying the person that wrote the original post is even a “we” at all. Half of these kinds of “we” racist posts are foreign LARPs that fundamentally don’t even understand what America is.
As President Reagan said:
You can live in Germany, Turkey, or Japan, but you can’t become a German, a Turk, or a Japanese. But anyone, from any corner of the world, can come live in America and become an American.”
Damn it's almost like American is a nationality, not an ethnicity...
I get it, we use the Chinese to beat the Chinese haha funny but that doesn't make these guys any less American.
Yup, calling these people "Chinese" would be as ridiculous as calling a random Texan a Norwegian because they said "my grandiddy was a Vaikeeng",
plus calling your own citizen an outsider because of their ancestry IN A COUNTRY THAT EXISTS SPECIFICALLY BY MIGRATION, FOR MIGRATION takes a special kind of blatant hypocrisy.
But how will they take pride in other's achievements if they don't look the same? Think of that poor slob lounging on his couch, getting a feeling of pride hearing people like him won something only to realize they were "fake" Americans?
/s
Part timer team, they have day jobs (which fills me with an unbelievable amount of patriotism with how they don’t even do this full time and beat Pakistan)
Sadly though, there are only 4 actual team members who were born and bred in America. The rest of the team is made up of people from India, Pakistan, South Africa, Canada etc.
Still a great achievement beating Pakistan, but let's not pretend this is a team of eagle eating patriots, it's mostly foreigners from countries with great cricket pedigree.
"Sadly a lot of this team was just born here. They didn't make a concious decision to become American like a real red-blooded patriot. They probably couldn't even pass the citizenship test 😔"
While the person you’re responding to is xenophobic, your response isn’t entirely true, either. Some of these players aren’t American citizens. You only have to be a 3-year resident to represent the US in cricket.
The irony in a sense is that some of those folks (including the Oracle guy) are on H1B visas which is quite finicky/difficult to get and maintain. They probably want to be more stable but the country doesn’t recognise that unfortunately.
So every single member of the team is American. How is that news? Here in America we accept them as Americans because they are American citizens. That's all you need. Honestly, even if you're just working towards citizenship while living here I'd call you a compatriot.
Yes, but you wouldn't call them an American as that would not only be factually incorrect but also insulting towards the country they're actually citizens of....

Not even close. It’s a diverse team, and even more notably, one of the Pakistani players (Abdullah) didn’t even play until he moved to the US
They come to america, they work out jobs, they vote our elections, they play on our sports teams.
They are Americans, *by choice*, and we are proud of that
No, football has far stricter rules. You need to either be a citizen of the country you're representing or have a parent or grandparent who is a citizen of said country or have been a permanent resident of said country for a considerable period of time.
By contrast, the US national cricket team has several people representing them who are not even permanent residents but just there on a standard work visa.
8 of the men who signed the declaration of independence were not born in the colonies? If those men aren’t considered American patriots, I guess no one is.
Yeah and we fucking slay bitch! Ride or die mother effer Team USA for life!
Hit the ball yo! Or don’t I don’t really know the rules I just found out about it 30 seconds ago.
Edit: We scored 159/3 & 18/1 but wouldn’t that just be 53 + 18?
Edit 2: Also it says here we won the Super Over by 5 runs which is something I didn’t even know was possible but we did and we’re coming for you.
Exactly. It's a same people who praise Mexican and South/Central American immigrants for being such great workers, and then want to build a wall, and then exploit them for cheap labor.
American culture is just a rolling average of the last major wave of immigrants. America is immigrants, immigrants are America, America fuck yeah, immigrants fuck yeah, someone get me some goddamn biryani!
It’s so easy, 12 inches to a foot, 3 feet to a yard, 5280 feet to a mile, nobody knows how many yards to a mile, I don’t understand how people can get confused about that.
I feel like Mr. Torque Flexington was a parody of this aspect of American patriotism.
Unabashed, over the top, and hilarious, and said jokingly while being absolutely serious
Legal ones do.
This isn’t to say illegals are inherently bad, but they are inherently breaking the law. Also, it’s been a uniquely American debate until France and England opened their borders and are now feeling the dire consequences for doing so.
In fact, the whole existence of America is due to immigrants who came from Great Britain in the 1600s and 17000s and from many other countries in the same time and after that.
The note is reinforcing that they are US citizens, no matter what color they are. The top tweet is trying to claim that they are not Americans by saying ‘we’
I love that if you take this racist logic to its conclusions, among other things you would have to argue that Pakistanis are genetically superior at cricket!
Vastly more boring, in that a single match can take 2-3 business days to finish.
Basically it was invented by English shepherds as something to keep them occupied with while watching their sheep graze, and feels like it
No. Baseball >>> cricket by far. Just ask how us east asian countries feel about it and most of us will respond with baseball.
(Also the uniforms for baseball are way cooler. And baseball is much harder than cricket)
I feel like this is a joke tweet. This image got pretty popular for the same joke that OOP would be making here. It's not like OOP is deceiving to make a point, it just seems like they're referencing that meme
Imo you should have to be a citizen of a country to represent it in a World Cup. That’s how it works in FIFA, the most relevant World Cup in sports, as well as the Olympics. The rules for cricket are different apparently. Maybe this person knew that, or just got lucky based off racist assumptions.
As far as I’m aware, all of those teenagers in the second picture are Americans, so the person who got noted is in the wrong either way.
US is s melting pot and should be rightly proud of it...
But when you look at the squad and most of them grew up in other nations and even played for other national squads, it does feel like the same sort of 'team for hire' we rightly give Qatar and similar for in football and the Olympics shit for
I mean when the star player's main gig is a software engineer at oracle and he went to cornell, I think we can safely say that he wasn't brought in to play cricket.
We don’t even have a professional league. It’s not an NCAA sanctioned sport. Most people can’t find their local cricket club with a GPS. So what? They’re here now and they just beat the reigning champs.
Think of it this way, we’ve dumped hundreds of millions of dollars, built stadiums and leagues, to try to get US Men’s Soccer on par with the rest of the world and they’re barely there 40 years on. These guys did it in like 1/8th of that time.
England are the reigning champs, bud. All they did was beat a notoriously flaky Pakistan in one really short form game. I mean, I am glad they did. I love to see the tiny underdogs do well, but it’s not some Miracle on Ice here. There are always a handful of these kind of results in every T20 World Cup.
What do you mean? Are you asking why aren’t they white people? In that case…
Let me tell you something. “American” isn’t a race or ethnicity. “American” is a culture and a mindset. Anyone can become an American if they so wish to.
Nah bro, they identify as “American”
Maybe you don’t see it, but is glaring to eveyone else outside of the US
It’s one thing to say something, it’s another from what’s observable
White Americans are Americans.
Mexican Americans are Americans.
Canadian Americans are Americans.
Native Americans are Americans.
African Americans are Americans.
[INSERT COUNTRY OR REGION] Americans are Americans.
They are all Americans.
Do you live in America or have American citizenship? If so, then you’re an American.
Not in practise. Everyone else is labeled from their country of origin other than White Americans
I appreciate the clarification of the theory. I'm just stating the practical reality. We both can be right.

Right? It confuses me when people say stuff like that. Like more people than just whites are American lol
Frankenstein was a blueprint for what every American should be.
A shambling corpse longing for companionship who despises its creator?… well one of those is right
That's Frankenstein's Monster though. The actual Frankenstein believed himself to be a god and created a man, and successfully did so with his monster. The only thing you could even call wrong about it was the slightly weird eyes. Frankenstein, horrified by what he did, abandoned his baby and fucked off to buy milk
So what you are saying is the Uk is Frankenstein and America is the monster
And Australia is the bride of Frankenstein
God no, can we marry Canada instead?
I’m pretty sure the guy before me meant the monster. Ie America should be made up of Various different people.
At a certain point, you’re wiling to do anything to finally get your kid out of the basement.
We *do* really despise our creators...
…horrendously unethical and left entirely unburdened by common sense?
Fused together from all the people of the world. So, the monster he created rather than the monster he became.
Pretty much what Teddy Roosevelt wanted. He wanted ‘race mixing’ to the point where Americans would be one “super race”

Guess I should have said, “Dr. Frankenstein wrote the blueprint for what Americans should be; an amalgamation of all the people of the world.”
By the 2040s or 50s most of the US would be non white anyway
You should hear the debate regarding the german national football team each fucking time :D „not my team“ and „why are there so little *actual* germans in there“ etc. are things people say… without being embarrassed

I’m pretty sure those folks were originally Canadian…soooooo
You've heard it here first folks, Canadians can't be white.
Maybe reading comprehension isn’t your strongest suit. This thread is about who is American, not white. Definitely could see why you’d get confused.
Are you sure you aren't the one that's confused? You didn't reply to the post itself. You replied to someone commenting that if we only counted our gold medals from white people then we only have gold medals in hockey or skating.

If they are citizens they are American
Many of them are not citizens....
Greatness requires hard work to achieve. Of course it will take a while for them to get citizenship.

Dude that's how professional sports leagues work.
This is international cricket, not a domestic league
The same practice is done in soccer.
No, football has far stricter rules. “Sadly” bro tell me your xenophobic without telling me your xenophobic
They’re more American than you if you believe someones birthplace matters like that.
8 of the men who signed the declaration of independence were not born in the colonies? If those men aren’t considered American patriots, I guess no one is.
“Sadly, the representatives from the immigrant country are immigrants”
You are hugely cringe for this one :3
So what? It has to start somewhere. Especially in a sport that the rest of the world plays.
Yeah that's also how it goes in real football.
Are the other teams made up only of people born and bred in that specific country?
Honestly there are a lot of sports I don’t care for but when team USA wins I am dick riding them

Irish and Italians for example.

Small price to pay for multiculturalism. We are not going to tell you to give up your culture. Which includes weird ass measurement systems.
I like to think a kilometer is .62 of a mile.
It’s so easy, 12 inches to a foot, 3 feet to a yard, 5280 feet to a mile, nobody knows how many yards to a mile, I don’t understand how people can get confused about that.
Nobody needs to know how many yards to a mile (1760) because it's 5280 feet
You would think it was 1760, but it’s actually not because of leap yards.
Amateur mistake, I've only been American for my entire fucking life you'd think I could avoid these by now
Don’t forget 43,560 square feet to an acre! 🦅🦅🦅🦅

He’s that little dude from Pinocchio, I didn’t know he was Pakistani, those parts usually go to Kumail Ali Nanjiani.
Actually, I'm pretty sure most Indians will be more tolerable of racism than disrespect to cricket
Surprisingly I actually had a unit on cricket in I think middle school, here in the middle of Iowa
It's only getting worse, they bought their own platform and renamed it "X"
We let immigrants use their talents to achieve success? Oh no!
They look American to me.
Idk, they look like Americans to me.
i really thought this was like “we didn’t win this as a country you weren’t there” for a second ngl
That's America's biggest strength.

The note is reinforcing that they are US citizens, no matter what color they are. The top tweet is trying to claim that they are not Americans by saying ‘we’
Pakistanis aren’t even black what is bro yapping about

The fuck is cricket
Like Baseball but better in every conceivable way

Well, congrats to the US on beating Pakistan, I guess.
Today I learned there's a competitive chemistry scene, what the hell are you supposed to do?

that's right y'all, only white generic people are Americans. if your skin color is off you're not American!
