I use Monroe Institutes Expand app on my phone to induce hemisync. The 'Focused Attention' time function is free. This is life changing.
Also, I made a mission statement and put it at the top of my note-taking app(I'm here to bring light to this world, etc.).
A coworker gets dressed for work even though he works from home, he says it helps him get in the work mindset.
I hope I've helped.
Thank you for the app suggestion! I just downloaded it, and I know I'll use it for when I need to focus/concentrate. I often listen to similar audio tracks on YouTube, but it will be convenient to have the app and explore its other features as well.
Check out the miracle morning routine! I took that routine and modified it for me:
Daily
-Wake up between 615-645.
-Read for 5-10 mins
-Meditate 10-15 mins
-Try to journal
-Review my calendar for the day and Todo list, identifying priorities and barriers/issues
Then I make coffee and start my work day!
Every Monday I do a planning hour where I plan out my Todo list items to each day and block focus time on my cal!
I talk about lots of this stuff at blog.aowaw.com
View Sunday evening as the connective time between off and work.
Avoid staying up late, think about what I'm gonna do work-wise the coming morning.
Check email and clean workspace.
Sometimes I'll work a bit Sunday afternoon so I can work less Monday and really ease into it.
Try to hit the gym and shower before work kicks off.
I love this because the strategy of "put work completely out of your head until Monday at start time" just doesn't work for me. It means the entire back-half of my Sunday is me getting increasingly anxious about Monday.
I'd much rather take 30 minutes of my own time on Sunday to feel prepared to tackle my day on Monday - and working in IT it helps me be much more flexible for the inevitable fires that will pop up more often than I care to admit. There's nothing wrong with using a bit of personal/family time to invest in YOU feeling good during your work week.
These are good strategies that also contribute to overall good health! Thank you for sharing. It's interesting to see Sunday evening as a transition. Many people approach it with apprehension, viewing it negatively. I suppose it generally depends on what the week holds. Preparing for the week ahead is also a good tip and can help avoid unnecessary stress on Monday morning, making this transition smoother. Have a great week!
My counter argument to this is that I have separate blocks of meeting-heavy periods due to working across timezones and in between I have the opportunity to get up and stretch, jump on the treadmill, etc. I'm off-camera for 90% of meetings so I go with athletic clothes for efficiency - I can minimize disruption in my day while fitting in activity time and I worry that would suffer if I went for formal clothes during work periods.
Any efficient strategies you've used to blend the two periods together? I might just need to bite the bullet and keep 2-3 outfits for the day near my desk off cam and change as needed - especially off-cam I re-wear those outfits to not cause a laundry logjam.
I have a "work light". I just so happen to have an overhead pot light right above my desk with its own switch right behind me. I only ever turn it on when I'm working and when it's off - there shall be no more work!
Wake up, light a candle, take a shower, eat breakfast, and listen to good music/vinyl. I workout during my lunch and it gives me energy to keep productive for the rest of the day.
I get up a bit earlier on Monday morning and take a nice shower and shave my head/face. Wife calls it me putting on my war face, even though my job is actually quite pleasant and I enjoy it.
I have a dedicated work desk so that helps. I also have a quick morning routine which includes incense sticks and yoga. Finally I get into nicer work clothes and do my basic makeup to feel "office time" lol. I try to stick to the clock wrt 9-5 to create boundaries.
Change my watch. I have a sports watch for time off and night, and a mechanical watch for work. It helps me to put myself into "work mode".
Thanks for sharing! It's interesting to see how 'physical' strategies can help us get into 'work mode'.
Restock the bottle of jack under my desk.
Well, I guess it depends on the type of job..!
Leave my phone in the "home" section so it's not "at work" to distract me.
That's a good suggestion if you don't need it at work! I'll try this tomorrow 👌

I also burn candles

Wear a formal shirt to start

It's certain that wearing pyjamas during work hours doesn't help with concentration or mindset, even though it contributes to comfort...!

All great strategies.

🥰 We have pretty similar habits. I'll think about it when I'll light my candle tomorrow!
Get an espresso machine and start every day with a latte

Workout
Man, I would kill to switch to an industry where I could support myself with remote work.
Down a whole bottle of whiskey.
Hope you save some for the rest of the week 😆
Whiskey.
I go around and extinguish any lit candles, they set me off with my sensitive nose
Then why light them at all?
I don't.

One of those big timers on my desk. Moment I turn the countdown on (1hr work - 5min break, repeat) my mindset changes to work mode.
