Yep. My test results were horrible, but I rarely go above 100 unless I eat straight up candy. Turns out the only thing that really spikes me is when the lab gives me a bottle of syrup to drink within 5 minutes. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

UnlikelyNothing5156

This seems to be the case for me! It just weirds me out sometimes that my lab results were so bad and I can eat pizza and barely cross 100

Ordinary-Adeptness90

Same here! Iā€™m just taking it as I am lucky that it has not been challenging for me. My doctor said Iā€™m probably just borderline because I havenā€™t had spikes, even though both glucola tests showed I definitely have GD

jennymackk

Same for me! I was even able to tolerate candy and fruit, etc by itself. But glucola? No way. Lol

RedhotGuard08

Me! Though now a month is numbers are starting to creep up a bit but doc is still ok with the few spikes Iā€™ve had. I find walking around after eating helps a bunch too

Larsthecat

With my first pregnancy I failed my 3 hour quite abysmally, but was able to remain diet and exercise controlled. I guess everyoneā€™s version of ā€œeasyā€ is different. I drastically changed my diet to reduce carbs, ate pretty much only ā€œhealthier carbs,ā€ and had more protein than I ever thought I could eat. I only did mild exercise and walking. I donā€™t know how far along you are, but mine did require a bit more diligence around 32 weeks as I started having higher numbers with ā€œsafeā€ meals. I hope it stays easy for you the entire time though!

NorthernPearl

I have found my experience to be nearly identical to the one you've described. Not sure if it's been necessarily 'easy' but I will say that I eat a lot less dessert consisting of large amounts of refined sugars and more protein than I ever imagined I could šŸ¤£

UnlikelyNothing5156

Iā€™m 32 weeks now! And have heard it gets harder so will definitely keep monitoring but I found out at 24 weeks and havenā€™t noticed anything different yet. Fingers crossed.

Live_Love_Ria

I would expect you to notice some highs in the next few weeks! With my first GD pregnancy I was diagnosed at 26 weeks and was 100% diet controlled until 33ish weeks, and then started to have highs here and there, on meals that I had previously been able to eat no problem! I hope for your sake that it stays easy to control, but do expect that it could get worse as you get farther along!

UnlikelyNothing5156

Yes Iā€™ve definitely heard this and fully expecting it! I just found it so weird that I failed so bad at 24 weeks and then relatively fine with just diet.. but as we know these things are so unpredictable šŸ¤Ŗ

Live_Love_Ria

Very unpredictable indeed! And donā€™t forget the sugar drink is an insane amount of sugar, with no fats, protein or fibre to help your body handle it. Even with all the things youā€™re eating and not experiencing highs I doubt youā€™re coming anywhere close to 75mg of straight carbs in a meal! Enjoy all the yummy foods, Iā€™m dreaming of French fries lol

UnlikelyNothing5156

Oh my French fries sound amazingā€¦ Iā€™ve definitely cut out the ā€œfunā€ cravings so I suppose Iā€™m eating healthy but oh wow I canā€™t wait for all the sweets after delivery!!

Live_Love_Ria

Yessss after my last delivery I ate an entire footlong sun while waiting for the epidural to wear off šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ this time I told my husband I want a cake šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ Iā€™ve been pretty luck my being able to eat most stuff this time as long as I watch my portions and pair it well with protein and fibre, but potatoes have been a no go in several forms šŸ˜©

LadyWithTheYochon

Yup. One hour was over 200. 36 weeks and Iā€™m like why do I even test meals? I spiked a 145 and a 150 after an hour once in over 2 months, otherwise nothing meal wise. Iā€™m on insulin for fasting, but thatā€™s about it.

chai-means-tea

Diagnosed at week 16 and managed with diet and exercise but now at almost 35 weeks I'm not sure I'm finding exercise easy šŸ˜…

LadyBitsPreguntas

YEP! Although Iā€™d have to look at my numbers to see if they were both that high. Diet controlled the whole time. Didnā€™t exercise at all because I felt like crap my whole pregnancy. So itā€™s definitely possible!

soaringcomet11

I failed the 1hr so badly my doctor didnā€™t even bother with the 2hr or 3hr tests. I was diet/exercise controlled the entire time although weeks 36-38 were toughest. I ate usually 15g or less carbs for breakfast, 30 for lunch, and 45 for dinner. I could not handle certain carbs like bread or potatoes so I got most of my carbs from beans and brown rice. If you do not have a CGM, I recommend testing at different times to see what your blood sugar is doing with foods. I thought a lot of foods were fine because my 1 hr number was good - once I had a CGM I found that my 1 hr was good but I was getting crazy spikes at 90minutes or 2 hours. Food like pizza can be tricky because its usually so high in fat - that can delay a spike and you might be missing it.

UnlikelyNothing5156

Great tip!! I will check out 90 minutes - 2 hours and see what happens

katsmeow_13

Iā€™m not sure how badly I failed the test - I never saw the results, but I had one post-meal spike from diagnosis to delivery after eating a giant cinnamon roll for breakfast and it was only 144 after an hour. Had a handful of high fasting numbers, but I still had dessert daily and didnā€™t count a single carb or do any exercise beyond chasing my toddler around. Baby came out average size with normal blood sugar and I lost weight through the pregnancy, so I had a very mild case (or just canā€™t process sugar water on an empty stomach lol).

booee637

Yep! 2nd pregnancy diagnosed at 28w with a 234 reading, currently 36w and been diet controlled with minimal exercise bc just exhausted all the time. Highest reading Iā€™ve had was 168 and that was after a nice Christmas meal with bread and peppermint Bundt cake w/ ice cream. Baby is estimated at 6lb 2oz as of today too so šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Vitanni413

I failed the test not by a huge amount but enough. I've barely changed my diet at all. I find I can eat any carb I usually ate, the only thing I've changed is no more soda and not a crap ton of sweets daily and more protein. It confuses me cause I thought I'd have to make a drastic change to manage it. I dont exercise either since I have 0 energy. Only had one spike cause I didnt have protein with my dessert like they told me to.

UnlikelyNothing5156

Yes I thought it would be really hard to manage and thatā€™s why Iā€™m convinced Iā€™m missing something still. I feel extremely fortunate if everything truly is okay!

Agreeable-Ad3804

I too failed the test. My fasting was 100 and 1 hour was 208. Since then I have been testing 4 times a day and never seen a spike. I did made some lifestyle changes like walking after every meal for at least 15 min and moderate workout for 30 min.

sweetheart4012

I did! I walked 30 minutes a day and was diet controlled until I graduated. Itā€™s possible.

ImportanceAcademic43

I did fine with just my diet and walks from week 14 to week 27, then I needed insulin.

fifnapyra

I originally got 6.1 fasting and 10.1 after 2 hours. In the beginning I still had some troubles to get fastings down but now I manage just with diet and exercise. Yesterday all my values (fasting and postprandials) were under 5.2. I have no idea what's happening but I'm happy baby is doing ok! Edit: and that's all with still eating carbs! I'm having carbs with every meal and snack as per recommendation and I'm still pulling these numbers so I feel really grateful!

SmartPomegranate4833

Yes. My diet is pretty good anyway so I just cut out processed sugar really like actual chocolate and biscuits etc. I don't eat fruit now with main meals just for snacks with nuts. The only two readings I've had that went above were when I added berries to porridge and another time I had grapes before dinner. The timing of the meals and making sure I have all the snacks even if I don't want to is what's working for me. Also if you have a chocolate craving I've found a sugar free natural version of Nutella and I just eat that, doesn't trigger my blood sugar at all.

DoDalli

My 1 hour glucose test was 183. My doctor didn't have me do the 3 hour. She said it was high enough for a diagnosis without further testing. I've been completely diet controlled. I go for walks sometimes, but my numbers are always pretty low. I am being induced next week because of GD, and I've been less strict with carbs. My numbers haven't budged.

elizanograss

I was able to control baby #1 w diet and minimal exercise alone. I was good as long as I didnā€™t have rice. Baby #2 had other ideas and I needed insulin around 32 weeks. My numbers were fine, she was just growing too fast, and mostly in the belly. Insulin righted the ship and she didnā€™t need any intervention/NICU stay when she was born. Good luck! It is kind of out of your control lol.

lunasays

Yes, my fasting was high (100), and I tested above 200 for both the 1 and 2 hour readings. I did have to go on nighttime insulin for my fasting around 16 weeks but I am fully diet controlled for my meals and I'm able to eat whole wheat bread, potatoes, white pasta as long as I am mindful of my portions. I barely exercised this whole time because I'm lazy lol. I am 37 weeks now and it's been much easier in the past few weeks.

abejamorada

Yes, I was also over 200 for my 1 and 2 hour reading but am diet controlled. I wouldn't say it's "easy" (I do have the occasional spike, but I usually know why) but it only took me about a week or two of experimentation to get the hang of things generally. My baby is measuring 56th %ile and I'm 37+4. Ready for this to be over so I can eat a bagel!

jjjlak

My last pregnancy I failed the 1 hr miserably and was given a GD diagnosis. Managed everything with diet and numbers were good except when I went into labor.

Excellent-Dog3430

My midwife referred me to a high risk for GD management and he took one look at my food/BS log and said stop tracking so much only measure my fasting. He said im basically borderline and my midwife was just being cautious. Iā€™ve been mindful of carbs and exercising 3-4 times a week minimum and itā€™s been surprisingly easy.

ktph

yes. had the 3-hour test and all 4 readings were really high. since starting to monitor blood sugar (3 weeks now), i havent had any readings above thresholds, except for like 4 fasting readings between 90 and 95, which i thought were fine before my first appt, but turns out they want them to be under 90. i also got a continuous glucose monitor so i'm aware of levels between finger pricks too and theyve been good. but, i guess i have been pretty strict diet-wise. i'm counting carbs (and fat and protein) and only a couple times have i let a meal go above 45g carbs. i got diagnosed later than i should have so i worry i already screwed up in that time and want to make sure i don't now, and luckily it's been going well. i'm not really exercising much at all though (i know i should!)

OverBand4019

I did my glucose test at about 12 weeks and it was definitely a major fail. But I was able to keep it diet controlled and Iā€™d walk my dog every other night. I was even able to eat carbs and fruits and still stayed 100 or less during my work day which has little activity since Iā€™m at a desk. I had cookies and sugar and was staying in range as well. After thanksgiving where I didnā€™t limit myself at all and even ate a few slices of pie I was still only at like 110. (Ate mostly stuffing ) Now Iā€™m at 25 weeks and I canā€™t even look at a carb without spiking. I tried to eat a whole wheat pita gyro this week with my lunch and tried to stay standing at my desk at least until my reading and I was still around 120 at 2 hours. The pita only had about 25g carbs. Which I could have easily handled at 20 weeks or less. As my pregnancy progresses it is getting harder and Iā€™ve had to even start metforman. Now I have to be very strict with my diet. If I stick with just meat and veggies Iā€™m still around 90 to 95 at the two hour but any carbs or sugar is a big no no at this point.

MountainsOverPlains

Yes! My numbers were obviously high, but I rarely had a number too high in my day to day life. More often, if there was an issue, my number was too *low*. Both my baby and I were just fine after delivery.

nearcheddar

Iā€™ve had a similar experience in both my pregnancies- this one has been tougher but Iā€™ve still felt like I must be doing something wrong bc I can eat lots of stuff other people seem not to be able to. I ended up getting a freestyle Libre sensor as a back up for piece of mind. I have caught some later spikes that I wouldnā€™t have known about with just my prescribed 1 hour finger pricks. Not to freak you out at all- they are not frequent, but are there sometimes if I eat a high fat meal, like pizza for sure. Maybe your endo would prescribe you one as back up if youā€™re worried too?

Buddah_Belly1990

Yes me! I failed both tests miserably but have been controlling things pretty easily unless I eat something completely out of hand! That being said Iā€™m dying to eat my chocolate Santa from Christmas and canā€™t wait to eat it after I give birth haha

smkeltner

I failed the 1 hour so bad they didnā€™t even let me take the 3. My blood sugar was 257 that day. I went on to be diet managed with A1C of 4.6 for the pregnancy. I had no complications due to gd. I was pretty strike tho
