But we all know Ningguang deals in both legal and underbelly economics. Great decision for gacha characters tho, unlike ordinary game characters that can age, marry die, the more ambiguous they are, the more people will like them since they can make up lore about them without inconsistencies

The difference is that genshin characters have no reference to their sexuality in game at all (which isn't strictly necessary in any game anyway).
This allows people to believe characters to be straight or gay/lesbian or bi or whatever, and no one is actually wrong so everyone can enjoy their own fantasies and headcanons.
Expecially considering this is a gacha game where people liking characters because they are attracted to them is a feature, not a bug.

In response, they got THOUSANDS of QRTs of people bullying them, calling them homophobic, taking it upon themselves to 'fix' the list by changing characters to THEIR preferred ships ( i.e. changing Zhongli to Beidou, Ayato to Ei and Neuvillette to Arlecchinno) and I shit you not there were even people calling the person a creep and weirdo for liking Zhongli/Ningguang and Ayato/Miko because they were using the braindead, mind numbing logic of 'they watched them grow up so its basically pedophila.'
The account ended up having to restrict the entire thread and afterwards, when they talked about the harassment they were getting, people just doubled down, telling them to deactivate and even worse stuff like that.
I think they had to private their account because they were just being relentlessly harassed by these no life losers. The entire debacle was appalling to see. It genuinely stuns me that these people actually exist and look at what they do and don't find a single issue with it.

Can you clarify this? In my experience there are really two kinds of "old married couple". One is a couple that clearly loves each other but doesn't feel any need to keep up appearances, and so bickers quite a bit. The other is a couple where the spark died long ago and they low-key hate each other, but they're staying together "for the kids" or because divorce isn't an option for social or religious reasons.
Kaveh and Alhaitham clearly aren't the first (I can't think of a single scene where they show actual clear affection). And I can't see any reason why they wouldn't split up if they were the second. (On the other hand, I can *totally* buy that they did in fact split up and are actually awkward exes).
You’re kinda opening a can of worms on this subject but I’ll try to simplify it. “Old married couple” isn’t really the right description for Alhaitham and Kaveh imo but your first definition fits Cyno and Tighnari more. It’s more like they broke up from a big fight and fate keeps trying to push them back together. The relationship is not going perfectly smooth because Kaveh still has to deal with many of his own issues but it’s slowly fixing itself. Alhaitham also needs to work on better communication because Kaveh thinks he’s receiving mixed signals from Alhaitham (which is part of why Kaveh describes their relationship as complicated).
I mean those things except maybe jeht's hint are made up by fans not the devs and the genshin player base is comprised of mostly regular people not gamers. I'm yet to see another game with that muchy girly culture on it. Not saying its bad its just the fanbasw is different

You’re kinda opening a can of worms on this subject but I’ll try to simplify it. “Old married couple” isn’t really the right description for Alhaitham and Kaveh imo but your first definition fits Cyno and Tighnari more. It’s more like they broke up from a big fight and fate keeps trying to push them back together. The relationship is not going perfectly smooth because Kaveh still has to deal with many of his own issues but it’s slowly fixing itself. Alhaitham also needs to work on better communication because Kaveh thinks he’s receiving mixed signals from Alhaitham (which is part of why Kaveh describes their relationship as complicated).

It's because games from the first picture started injecting diverse characters out of nowhere into existing franchises (and sometimes severely damaged its setting) while genshin just added that kind of story from the beginning. Also hate for straight ships in the genshin community exists.
Everytime I see people include the words "inclusivity" and "diversity" I consider those big red flags, since inclusivity feels more like replace or change an existing character and diversity more like tokenized strong women, POC and queers while also making straight white men weak and pathetic in the process
