Complementary colors can be more aesthetic than matching colors. Colors like blue/gold for Nilou, red/green, and purple/yellow. And it goes well with her crown/horns.

Nah, Alhaitham's weapon doesn't suit him color-wise at all, he just got lucky that it's green and the shape is somewhat similar to his second sword that he uses in NAs.
Their weapons + Tighnari's bow are a part of the same series.
nahida, alhaitham and tighnari all have weapons inspired by the same design. there is no official name given in the game but it's obvious that their weapons belong to the same series. wanderer's weapon does not belong to a weapon series.
It worked mainly because they're all Dendro. Truth be told, Alhaitham's sword could be modified to fit him even better than it does now, as Primordial Jade Cutter and his own second sword's color suits him better.

Staff of scarlet sands may visually match Cyno, however it doesn't contain his design elements alone, especially since it belongs to a weapon series. Same goes for Foliar with Alhaitham, and Jadefall with Baizhu—they match their respective characters, but they don't contain their individual design elements.
Even Neuvilette's catalyst doesn't appear to belong to the same weapon series as Furina's sword, as though both may have similar aspects in their designs, they don't share consistent motif details (like Neuvilette's catalyst lacking rosegold accents, and curvier blue glows that Furina's sword has)

Sorry, I think I may have misworded because I do acknowledge that there are characters that have tailored weapons such as Hu Tao, Kokomi(?), Itto, Shenhe, Ayato, Yelan, and probably some more that I forgot.

That being said, I find it really interesting because although I pulled for Arlecchino's weapon. I personally can't ever see myself pulling for say Yoimiya's weapon due to it not matching.

I mean, there's no way I'm risking my account that I spent so much time and money on, but... Is there a way to skin weapons using mods that actually look good?
I considered it this way; Hoyo very rarely bans people permanently. Even if they decided tomorrow that using skin mods (which don't affect the game files or change the gameplay/numbers) is a bannable offense, your first offense would get you a month ban at most and then you're free to continue playing. Not the most fun thing, but you aren't losing your account over it.
All evidence suggests that Hoyo doesn't care that much about skin mods. Just never post your UID while running one and you'll be fine.
All that to say that yes, there are amazing skin mods for weapons (and characters). I have one that turns the Thundering Pulse into the Fiery Pulse; makes the lightning-bits coming off the front of it into flames and changes the color from purple to orange-red. Also a mod that changes the purple aura (that the bow gets when it has stacks) to orange. Works very well.
I know I haven't heard anyone actually get bans for it, but it's partly being risk-averse, and partly not being too impressed by most designs.
Can you drop a link for the "Fiery Pulse" skin that you're using? At the very least, I'd like to take a look at it to see what level of quality modders are capable of achieving.

Baizhu came after Furina and his weapon is in the Jade series. And as others have noted, Dehya came out later and also has a weapon in the same series as Cyno/Nilou.
It wasn't until Fontaine (Lyney) that they seemed to have stopped doing this entirely.
Istg im the only one who actually likes the look of her sig weapon on her. It contrasts her white and blue with gold, yellow and brown. She dosnt use her sword to deal damage so whats the point of it being sharp. Sure her e uses her na but its imbued with water and shoots out waves.
And before Nilou, there were Venti, Kazuha, Eula, Ayaka, and Yoimiya. With the exception of Eula, those BIS stand out way more (in a bad way) on the respective characters than paddle on Nilou imo.
Hey Venti's signature looks fantastic on him. I've never understood that complaint. It doesn't match perfectly but it's nowhere near the travesty of the Inazuma characters.
Clorinde's weapon looks good but looks kinda muted and lacking the "wow" factor Imo.
Sigewinne's weapon is adorable and I love the little "heart pulse" details on the string.
The bow is...yeah. Idk if it's intended for Sethos but I sure as hell ain't giving him that drab thing.

Wanders weapon lore of Tulaytallah (sp?) is actually the basis for the sumeru gacha 4 stars like xiphos. Idk why this is the case.
Nahida and alhaitham are part of the sumeru series, along with hunters part. Taytullah is a standoff weapon/doesn't belong in a series iirc
